A technology of building a pile foundation in saline soils with a protective and load-bearing shell based on bituminous rocks (kirs) is proposed that makes it possible to eliminate water permeability, to increase suffusion resistance and bearing capacity of the soil, as well as durability. The method of extracting natural bitumen from bituminous rocks (kirs) is based on the ability of kirs to self-grind or disintegrate into small parts at elevated temperatures in aqueous salt solutions. The proposed method excludes mechanical grinding and allows reducing the consumption of reagents and improving the quality of extracted natural bitumen. The compositions of the obtained mastics based on natural bitumen are not inferior in their properties to the known compositions of waterproofing cold mastics based on industrial bitumen at a lower cost.

Designing advanced methods of corrosion protection and increasing the bearing capacity of pile foundations on saline clayey soils is a priority geotechnical task in Kazakhstan. The formation of a suffusion-resistant waterproof shell was achieved by silicatization of a borehole before concreting, by the installation of a mold into the borehole and the impregnation of a sodium silicate solution into the space between the mold and the soil under pressure. After coagulation of the silicate solution, the mold was removed and the formed shell was filled with corrosion-resistant concrete. Full-scale static pile load tests were conducted in the construction site “Retaining wall on Mount Koktobe” in Almaty. The bearing capacity of the piles with the protective silicate shell exceeded the bearing capacity of an ordinary pile by 2.5 times on average without wetting the site, and 3.2 times after prolonged wetting. The numerical model had a close relationship with the average experimental curve obtained when conducting six static pile load tests with the protective shell. A large economic effect of the developed piling technology with a protective shell was achieved, with a significant reduction in the cost of piling, equal to 27.85%.

Low accuracy of mid-term forecasts of cryptocurrencies is an open problem that impedes their promotion on the world financial market. One of the reasons is the lack of reliable predictive models including all or the majority of significant objective and subjective factors. In this paper, we propose to partially compensate this deficit by taking into account mutual relations of cryptocurrencies and using the noise-immune algorithms of GMDH technology. Object of consideration is the dynamics of cryptocurrencies XPR, Waves and ETH during 2 full years from March 2019 till February 2021 with the step of 1 week. We consider tasks of forecast with different options: 2 periods of cryptocurrency behaviour (calm, crisis), 2 forecast horizons (week, month), 3 models (autoregression, regression, hybrid), 2 basic algorithms from the GMDH Shell tool (combinatorial, neural network). We also study how preliminary smoothing of cryptocurrencies dynamics affects forecast error. Baseline is presented by the popular Holt-Winters method. The results prove to be promising, which allows us to recommend the proposed simple approach for experts of cryptocurrency market

Several studies have documented that regional climate warming and the resulting increase in drought stress have triggered increased tree mortality in semiarid forests with unavoidable impacts on regional and global carbon sequestration. Although climate warming is projected to continue into the future, studies examining long-term resilience of semiarid forests against climate change are limited. In this study, long-term forest resilience was defined as the capacity of forest recruitment to compensate for losses from mortality. We observed an obvious change in long-term forest resilience along a local aridity gradient by reconstructing tree growth trend and disturbance history and investigating postdisturbance regeneration in semiarid forests in southern Siberia. In our study, with increased severity of local aridity, forests became vulnerable to drought stress, and regeneration first accelerated and then ceased. Radial growth of trees during 1900-2012 was also relatively stable on the moderately arid site. Furthermore, we found that smaller forest patches always have relatively weaker resilience under the same climatic conditions. Our results imply a relatively higher resilience in arid timberline forest patches than in continuous forests; however, further climate warming and increased drought could possibly cause the disappearance of small forest patches around the arid tree line. The spatial arrangement of the internal pores inside several fragments of ancient cast iron cauldrons related to the medieval Golden Horde period was studied using the neutron tomography method. The high neutron penetration into a cast iron material provides sufficient data for detailed analysis of the three-dimensional imaging data. The size, elongation, and orientation distributions of the observed internal pores were obtained. As discussed, the imaging and quantitative analytical data are considered structural markers for the location of cast iron foundries, as well as a feature of the medieval casting process.

The correlation between electronic and crystal structures of 1T-TiSe_{2} in the charge-density wave (CDW) state is studied by x-ray diffraction in order to clarify basic properties in the CDW state, transport properties, and chirality. Three families of reflections are used to probe atomic displacements and the orbital asymmetry in Se. Two distinct onset temperatures are found: T_{CDW} and a lower T^{*} indicative for an onset of Se out-of-plane atomic displacements. T^{*} coincides with a DC resistivity maximum and the onset of the proposed gyrotropic (chiral) electronic structure. However, no indication for chirality is found. The relation between the atomic displacements and the transport properties is discussed in terms of Ti 3d and Se 4p states that only weakly couple to the CDW order.

Ultrafast electron delocalization induced by a femtosecond laser pulse is a well-known process in which electrons are ejected from the ions within the laser pulse duration. However, very little is known about the speed of electron localization out of an electron gas in correlated metals, i.e., the capture of an electron by an ion. Here, we demonstrate by means of pump-probe x-ray techniques across the Eu L_{3} absorption edge that an electron localization process in the EuNi_{2}(Si_{0.21}Ge_{0.79})_{2} intermetallic material occurs within a few hundred femtoseconds after the optical excitation. Spectroscopy and diffraction data collected simultaneously at low temperature and for various laser fluences show that the localization dynamics process is much faster than the thermal expansion of the unit cell along the c direction which occurs within picoseconds. Nevertheless, this latter process is still much slower than pure electronic effects, such as screening, and the subpicosecond timescale indicates an optical phonon driven origin. In addition, comparing the laser fluence dependence of the electronic response with that found in other intermediate 4f valence materials, we suggest that the electron localization process observed in this Eu-based correlated metal is mainly related to changes in the 4f hybridization. The observed ultrafast electron localization process sparks fundamental questions for our understanding of electron correlations and their coupling to the lattice.

The chemical and elementary composition, internal arrangement, and spatial distribution of the components of ancient Greek copper coins were studied using XRF analysis, neutron diffraction and neutron tomography methods. The studied coins are interesting from a historical and cultural point of view, as they are “Charon’s obol’s”. These coins were discovered at the location of an ancient Greek settlement during archaeological excavations on the “Volna-1” necropolis in Krasnodar Region, Russian Federation. It was determined that the coins are mainly made of a bronze alloy, a tin content that falls in the range of 1.1(2)–7.9(3) wt.%. All coins are highly degraded; corrosion and patina areas occupy volumes from ~27 % to ~62 % of the original coin volumes. The neutron tomography method not only provided 3D data of the spatial distribution of the bronze alloy and the patina with corrosion contamination inside coin volumes, but also restored the minting pattern of several studied coins. Taking into account the obtained results, the origin and use of these coins in the light of historical and economic processes of the Bosporan Kingdom are discussed.

In this work, we use ultrafast pump-probe nonresonant and resonant x-ray diffraction to track the periodic lattice distortion and the electronic charge density wave in 1T-TiSe_{2} upon optical excitation. We observe a fluence regime in which the periodic lattice deformation is strongly suppressed but the charge density wave related Se 4p orbital order remains mostly intact. Complete melting of both structural and electronic order occurs four to five times faster than expected from a purely electronic charge-screening process, strongly suggesting a structurally assisted weakening of excitonic correlations. Our experimental data provide insight on the intricate coupling between structural and electronic order in stabilizing the periodic-lattice-distortion/charge-density-wave state in 1T-TiSe_{2}. The results further show that electron-phonon coupling can lead to different, energy dependent phase-transition pathways in condensed matter systems, opening different possibilities in the conception of nonequilibrium phenomena at the ultrafast scale.

This article discusses the peculiarities of mineral composition and a fluid inclusions (FIs further in the text) study of the Kholtoson W and Inkur W deposits located within the Dzhida W-Mo ore field (Southwestern Transbaikalia, Russia). The Mo mineralization spatially coincides with the apical part of the Pervomaisky stock (Pervomaisky deposit), and the W mineralization forms numerous quartz veins in the western part of the ore field (Kholtoson vein deposit) and the stockwork in the central part (Inkur stockwork deposit). The ore mineral composition is similar at both deposits. Quartz is the main gangue mineral; there are also present muscovite, K-feldspar, and carbonates. The main ore mineral of both deposits is hubnerite. In addition to hubnerite, at both deposits, more than 20 mineral species were identified; they include sulfides (pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, bornite, etc.), sulfosalts (tetrahedrite, aikinite, stannite, etc.), oxides (scheelite, cassiterite), and tellurides (hessite). The results of mineralogical and fluid inclusions studies allowed us to conclude that the Inkur W and the Kholtoson W deposits were formed by the same hydrothermal fluids, related to the same ore-forming system. For both deposits, the fluid inclusion homogenization temperatures varied within the range ~195–344 °C. The presence of cogenetic liquid- and vapor-dominated inclusions in the quartz from the ores of the Kholtoson deposit allowed us to estimate the true temperature range of mineral formation as 413–350 °C. Ore deposition occurred under similar physical-chemical conditions, differing only in pressures of mineral formation. We investigate the structural dynamics of the incommensurately modulated phase of Sn 2 P 2 Se 6 by means of time-resolved X-ray diffraction following excitation by an optical pump. Tracking the incommensurable distortion in the time domain enables us to identify the transport effects leading to a complete disappearance of the incommensurate phase over the course of 100 ns. These observations suggest that a thin surface layer of the high-temperature phase forms quickly after photo-excitation and then propagates into the material with a constant velocity of 3.7 m/s. Complementary static structural measurements reveal previously unreported higher-order satellite reflection in the incommensurate phase. These higher-order reflections are attributed to cubic vibrational terms in the Hamiltonian.

The article discusses the composition of studied ore-forming solutions and the P-T conditions of molybdenum mineralization in the Pervomaisky stockwork deposit which is situated within the Dzhidinsky ore field (South-Western Transbaikalia, Russia). New geochronological data of zircons from granites, muscovite, and molybdenite from the ore zones indicates the association of the granite formation and ore deposition processes which occurred 119–128 million years ago. Quartz-molybdenite veins of the Pervomaisky deposit were formed at the temperature of ≥314–186 °C with some boiling periods. Fluid inclusions in these veins have total salt concentration of 6.3–12.7 wt. % NaCl equivalent (eq. NaCl). The salt solution is composed of chlorides of Na, Ca, K, and Fe. The gas phase contains CO2, CH4, and N2. A series of elements were determined in fluid inclusions by laser ablation (LA)-ICP-MS: Li, Be, B, F, Na, Mg, Al, Cl, K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Nb, Mo, Ag, Sn, La, Ce, Ta, W, Au, Pb, Th, U. The Mo content reaches 559 ppm (average of 228 ± 190 ppm) in high-grade quartz-molybdenite veinlets, whereas Mo content is up to 212 ppm (average of 25 ± 29 ppm) in the low-grade veinlets. High-grade veinlets were formed by near-neutral solutions with a higher content of Mo, S, and F, while relatively low-grade veinlets were deposited from alkaline solutions. Medical imaging, particularly radiography, is an indispensable part of diagnosing many chest diseases. Final diagnoses are made by radiologists based on images, but the decision-making process is always associated with a risk of incorrect interpretation. Incorrectly interpreted data can lead to delays in treatment, a prescription of inappropriate therapy, or even a completely missed diagnosis. In this context, our study aims to determine whether it is possible to predict diagnostic errors made by radiologists using eye-tracking technology. For this purpose, we asked 4 radiologists with different levels of experience to analyze 1000 images covering a wide range of chest diseases. Using eye-tracking data, we calculated the radiologists' gaze fixation points and generated feature vectors based on this data to describe the radiologists' gaze behavior during image analysis. Additionally, we emulated the process of revealing the read images following radiologists' gaze data to create a more comprehensive picture of their analysis. Then we applied a recurrent neural network to predict diagnostic errors.
