Abstract

As part of this work, polymer composites based on polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) were obtained and used in 3D printing technology, particularly Melted Extrusion Modeling (MEM) technology. The influence of selected fillers on the properties of the obtained composites was investigated. For this purpose, modified fillers such as silica modified with alumina, bentonite modified with a quaternary ammonium salt, and hybrid lignin/silicon dioxide filler were introduced into the PC/ABS matrix. In the first part of this work, polymer blends and their composites containing 1.5–3 wt. of the filler were used to obtain the filament using the proprietary technological line. Moldings for testing the performance properties were obtained using additive manufacturing techniques and injection molding. In the subsequent part of this work, rheological properties (mass flow rate (MFR) and viscosity curves) and mechanical properties (Rockwell hardness and static tensile strength with Young's modulus) were examined. The structures of the obtained composites were also determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS). The obtained results confirmed the results obtained from a wide-angle X-ray scattering analysis (WAXS). In turn, the physicochemical properties were characterized on the basis of the results of tests using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Based on the obtained results, it was found that the introduced modified additives had a significant impact on the processing and functional properties of the tested composites. Abstract

Appropriate selection of polymeric materials enables their wide application not only in machine construction elements, suspension and interior equipment of vehicles. Simultaneously with the development of new polymer materials, the processes of their processing developed. This also applies to incremental technologies. Rapid prototyping methods using 3D printers are largely based on various types of polymer materials. Currently, 3D printing is a well-known technique for producing functional elements, especially the Melt Extrusion Polymers (MEP) method, which is the oldest of the known techniques of spatial production. The main reason of the technology is designing and then manufacturing parts for many fields, including engineering, medicine, as well as the automotive and aviation industries. The article is a review of the literature on the use of composites based on thermoplastic polymers to develop new polymer materials used for 3D printing by MEP.

Abstract

This paper presents a study on the electrical properties of new polylactide-basednanocomposites with the addition of silicon-dioxide-lignin nanoparticles and glycerine as a plasticizer.Four samples were prepared with nanoparticle mass fractions ranging between 0.01 to 0.15(0.01, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15), and three samples were prepared without nanoparticle filler-unfilledand unprocessed polylactide, unfilled and processed polylactide, and polylactide with Fusabondand glycerine. All samples were manufactured using the melt mixing extrusion techniqueand injection molding. Only the unfilled and unprocessed PLA sample was directly preparedby injection molding. Dielectric properties were studied with broadband spectroscopy in a frequencyrange from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz in 55 steps designed on a logarithmic scale and a temperature rangefrom 293.15 to 333.15 K with a 5 K step. Optical properties of nanocomposites were measuredwith UV-VIS spectroscopy at wavelengths from 190 to 1100 nm. The experimental data show thatthe addition of silicon-dioxide-lignin and glycerine significantly affected the electrical propertiesof the studied nanocomposites based on polylactide. Permittivity and electrical conductivity showa significant increase with an increasing concentration of nanoparticle filler. The optical properties arealso affected by nanofiller and cause an increase in absorbance as the number of silicon-dioxide-ligninnanoparticles increase.
