We have studied the photoluminescence spectra, including the time-resolved ones, and the photodiffusion spectra of PbI2 crystals and Pb1-xCdxI2 solid solutions. It is established that these crystals have monopolar (hole) photoconductivity. The possibility of the formation of PbI2 clusters with various sizes in solid solutions is shown. It is found that the value of splitting between Γ3–- and Γ1–-exciton states in such clusters is 30 and 36 meV for x = 0.50 and x = 0.70, respectively. We have revealed that, for x = 0.50, the self-trapping excitons in PbI2 clusters happens., Проведено дослідження спектрів фотолюмінесценції, в тому числі із розділенням в часі, і фотодифузійного струму кристалів PbI2 та твердих розчинів Pb1-xCdxI2. Встановлено, що дані кристали мають монополярну (діркову) провідність. Показанаможливість утворення в твердих розчинах кластерів PbI2 різних розмірів. Встановлено, що величина розщеплення між Γ3–- та Γ1–-екситонними станами в таких кластерах становить 30 та 36 меВ для x = 0,50 та x = 0,70, відповідно. Виявлено, що для x ≥ 0,50 має місце автолокалізація екситонів в кластерах PbI2.

In this work we deposited CdS:Dy thin films using a close-spaced vacuum sublimation method at different temperatures (Ts) of the glass substrate. The XRD analysis reveals that the obtained films only correspond to a single wurtzite phase. The microstress level in Dy doped CdS films decreases compared with undoped films. The results of the pole density calculations show that at Ts  (573-673) K the [002] crystallographic direction corresponds to the main axial growth texture. The intrinsic defects in the investigated films were studied based on the low temperature photoluminescence measurements. It was shown that the CdS:Dy thin films are sufficiently stoichiometric. Analysis of the free exciton reflection spectra indicates that the polarization of the bands corresponds to the optical c-axis perpendicular to the substrate surface. The optical transmittance of CdS:Dy thin films in the range of transparency (600-800 nm) at room temperature exceeded 80 %. Based on the obtained results, it is concluded that the CdS:Dy thin films are excellent crystalline and optical quality and may be increase the efficiency their photovoltaic applications. В роботі досліджено плівки CdS:Dy, отримані методом вакуумного випаровування в квазізамкненому об'ємі при різних температурах скляних підкладок (Ts). Результати рентгенівського аналізу показали, що отримані плівки є однофазними та мають вюрцитну структуру. Для легованих Dy плівок спостерігався менший рівень мікродеформацій у порівнянні з нелегованими. Результати розрахунку полюсної густини показали, що при Ts  (573-673) K напрям [002] відповідав головній аксіальній текстурі росту. Власні дефекти в досліджуваних плівках були вивчені з використанням методу низькотемпературної фотолюмінесценції. Було показано, що плівки CdS:Dy є досить стехіометричними. Аналіз вільних екситонів на спектрах відбивання світла від плівок свідчить, що поляризація екситону відповідає оптичній осі кристалічної гратки с, перпендикулярній до поверхні підкладки. Оптичне пропускання плівок CdS:Dy в хвильовому діапазоні (600-800 нм) при кімнатній температурі перевищує 80 %. На основі отриманих результатів, було зроблено висновок, що плівки CdS:Dy мають покращені властивості (високу кристалічну та оптичну якість), що може підвищити ефективність фотоперетворювачів світла при їх використанні в фотовольтаїці.

The effect of high-temperature annealing of a nominally undoped CdTe charge under dynamic vacuum conditions on the electrical and optical properties of single crystals grown from this charge with the use of a modified physical vapor transport method has been examined. It is shown that the annealing results in the disappearance or an extinction of chlorine-related lines in the low-temperature photoluminescence spectra and the absorption bands in the long-wavelength absorption-edge spectra of the crystals concerned, as well as in a drastic fall of their resistivity. The observed alterations are explained by a removal of the Cl impurity during the annealing owing to a high volatility of chlorine compounds., Розглянуто вплив високотемпературного відпалу шихти номінально нелегованого CdTe у динамічному вакуумі на електричні та оптичні властивості монокристалів, вирощених з неї модифікованим методом фізичного транспорту через газову фазу. Показано, що відпал приводить до зникнення чи послаблення пов'язаних з хлором ліній випромінювання у спектрах низькотемпературної фотолюмінесценції і смуг поглинання у спектрах крайового довгохвильового поглинання кристалів, а також до різкого зменшення їх питомого опору. Ці зміни пояснено очисткою шихти від неконтрольованої домішки хлору у процесі відпалу, що зумовлено високою летючістю хлорних сполук.

The electron trapping and detrapping processes in the semi-insulating CdTe:V crystals have been studied using a new time-resolved photoelectric spectroscopy technique. It has been shown that the electron processes in such crystals involving the impurity centers and intrinsic defects are fast and occur in the nanosecond range. The information on the nature and energy structure of the anisotropic impurity centers has been obtained. Two different photogeneration mechanisms of free electrons have been revealed: the direct photoionization of electrons from the ground impurity states and their self-ionization from the excited impurity states which are in resonance with the conduction band. It was found that the photosensitivity region for Cd₁₋ₓHgₓTe:V crystals (x = 0.018) at 300 K is in the range from 0.9 to 1.7 μm.
