A design-assisted-by-testing strategy is proposed for the upright frames of adjustable pallet racks. This methodology defines a procedure that aims to locate marked post-elastic behavior at the floor-to-upright connections of lateral resisting frames in the cross-aisle direction. Such connections are intended to enhance the performance of the cross-aisle frames when subjected to dynamic forces in their plane. The chosen baseplate connection is experimentally tested using monotonic and cyclic protocols at the Steel Structures Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens (Greece). Then, a numerical model of the baseplate is calibrated using literature parameter definitions and hence validated using physical data. Additionally, the dynamic response of two upright frames is numerically investigated: one with traditional hinge connections and another with dissipative ones. This study indicates that the proposed procedure successfully enhances ductility, resulting in a significant reduction (up to 50%) in upright axial forces compared to the conventional configuration. En aquest treball veurem com afecta l’alçada dels edificis de maçoneria no reforçada en la seva capacitat estructural respecte a moviments sísmics. Té l’objectiu d’oferir una millor representació del parc urbà de Barcelona i d’assistir a un projecte que pretén fer el mateix per a tots els parcs urbans d’Europa. Per fer-ho, s’utilitzen els mètodes estàtics no lineals, més concretament el mètode N2 i s’obtenen els resultats en forma de gràfics bilineals i corbes de fragilitat. A partir d’aquests resultats podem afirmar que els edificis més alts són capaços de suportar uns desplaçaments més elevats però al mateix temps requereixen d’uns esforços i acceleracions menors per a arribar-hi, això succeeix ja que a menor alçada d’un edifici, aquest és més rígid però també és menys dúctil., En este proyecto veremos cómo afecta la altura de los edificios de mampostería no reforzada en su capacidad estructural respecto a movimientos sísmicos. Tiene el objetivo de ofrecer una mejor representación del parque urbano de Barcelona y de asistir a un proyecto que pretende hacer lo mismo para todos los parques urbanos de Europa. Para hacerlo, se utilizan los métodos estáticos no-lineales, de forma más concreta el método N2 y se obtienen los resultados en forma de gráficos bilineales y curvas de fragilidad. A partir de estos resultados podemos afirmar que los edificios más altos son capaces de soportar unos desplazamientos más elevados pero al mismo tiempo requieren de unos esfuerzos y aceleraciones menores para llegar a ellos, esto sucede debido al hecho que como memos altura tiene un edificio, este es más rígido pero a su vez es menos dúctil., In this project we will see how height affects the structural capacity of unreinforced masonry buildings against seismic movement. The project has the objective of offering a better representation of Barcelona’s urban park and assisting a project which is doing the same for all urban parks across Europe. This is done with non-static procedures, more specifically the N2 procedure and we obtain the results as bilineal graphs and fragility curves. From these results we can assure that the higher the buildings, the bigger displacements they can suffer but at the same time the effort and acceleration required to do so are lower, this happens because the lower the building, they are more rigid but at the same time less ductile.

Les construccions tradicionals son patrimoni arquitectònic del Marroc, ja que alguns dels quals tenen centenars d'anys. A més, l'ús de materials locals i tècniques tradicionals els fa unes construccions sostenibles, el que redueix la petjada ecològica i disminuir la dependència de recursos importats. També són obres de baix cost i proporcionen una climatització natural efectiva, de manera que els materials utilitzats són bons aïllants tèrmicament. L'objecte d'estudi d'aquesta recerca és conservar l'arquitectura tradicional del Marroc a partir de la investigació de quins són els sistemes addicionals a una estructura muraria existent per tal que l'edifici no es col·lapsi alhora d'un terratrèmol, o almenys, deixar temps suficient als residents per evacuar l'habitatge sense complicacions. Llavors, es planteja uns reforços amb elements a l'abast dels habitants i fàcils d'implementar perquè puguin aplicar-los ells mateixos sense necessitat d'eines i maquinàries que en la majoria de les vegades no són accessibles en aquelles zones rurals. Per aquest objectiu, cal disposar de suficient coneixement sobre el fenomen del sisme i quines són les forces que produeix, l'arquitectura tradicional del Marroc i les lesions que poden presentar amb aquestes forces sísmiques. Al final del treball es fa un assaig comparatiu entre les diferents tècniques de reforç del mur amb elements a l'abast dels residents i fàcils d'implementar, per ser capaç de seleccionar el sistema de reforç adequat., Las construcciones tradicionales su patrimonio arquitectónico del Marruecos, puesto que algunos de los cuales tienen centenares de años. Además, el uso de materiales locales y técnicas tradicionales los hace unas construcciones sostenibles, el que reduce la huella ecológica y disminuir la dependencia de recursos importados. El objeto de estudio de esta investigación es conservar la arquitectura tradicional del Marruecos a partir de la investigación de cuáles son los sistemas adicionales a una estructura muraría existente para que el edificio no se colapse a la vez de un terremoto, o al menos, dejar tiempo suficiente a los residentes para evacuar la vivienda sin complicaciones. Entonces, se plantea unos refuerzos con elementos al alcance de los habitantes y fáciles de implementar para que puedan aplicarlos ellos mismos sin necesidad de herramientas y maquinarias que en la mayoría de las veces no son accesibles en aquellas zonas rurales. Por este objetivo, hay que disponer de suficiente conocimiento sobre el fenómeno del seísmo y qué son las fuerzas que produce, la arquitectura tradicional del Marruecos y las lesiones que pueden presentar con estas fuerzas sísmicas. Al final del trabajo se hace un ensayo comparativo entre las diferentes técnicas de refuerzo del muro con elementos al alcance de los residentes y fáciles de implementar, para ser capaz de seleccionar el sistema de refuerzo adecuado., The traditional buildings are architectural heritage of Morocco, as some of them are hundreds of years old. In addition, the use of local materials and traditional techniques makes them sustainable constructions, which reduces the ecological footprint and reduces the dependence on imported resources. They are also low-cost works and provide effective natural air conditioning, so the materials used are good thermal insulators. The purpose of this research is to preserve the traditional architecture of Morocco based on the investigation of what are the additional systems to an existing murar structure so that the building does not collapse at the same time as an earthquake, or at least leave enough time for residents to evacuate the house without complications. Reinforcements are then proposed with elements within the reach of the inhabitants and easy to implement so that they can apply them themselves without the need for tools and machinery that in most cases are not accessible in those rural areas. To this end, it is necessary to have sufficient knowledge about the phenomenon of the earthquake and what are the forces it produces, the traditional architecture of Morocco and the lesions that can present with these seismic forces. At the end of the work, a comparative trial is carried out between the different techniques of reinforcement of the wall with elements available to residents and easy to implement, to be able to select the appropriate reinforcement system.

El presente trabajo de final de máster consiste en la evaluación frente a cargas laterales de un nuevo sistema estructural, el cual combina el entramado ligero con pórticos metálicos como refuerzos. Se plantea como hipótesis inicial que el nuevo sistema contribuye con la disminución de la deformación de la estructura, así como a la disminución de tensiones en puntos críticos, tanto en los listones como en los paneles de madera que conforman el sistema estructural. Para ello, se aborda el estudio de dos formas, la primera mediante el software Robot Sructural, el cuál se utiliza para realizar diferentes modelos de cálculo para obtener deformaciones y tensiones en los elementos de cada uno de los modelos desarrollados. Unreinforced existing masonry buildings, located in many historical urban centres, present specific construction characteristics that can have a significant impact on their seismic performance. As these structures are often designed considering only gravity loads before the introduction of seismic codes, they are commonly found to be particularly vulnerable to seismic actions. This work investigates the seismic performance of representative existing masonry buildings located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain. These buildings are characterised by several common structural features, allowing grouping them into building typologies characterised by a similar structural response. The results of a building taxonomy of the specific district manifest the existence of two structural typologies related with the load-bearing system: one with load-bearing slender masonry walls throughout the whole height and a second hybrid one with steel beams and cast-iron columns on the ground floor and unreinforced masonry walls in the upper ones. The second typology is very common because it allows for large open space at the ground floor level, commonly used for commercial or administrative facilities. The drawback of this hybrid structural system is its reduced seismic performance, as the slender piers at the ground floor facilitate the development of a soft-storey mechanism. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of a typical hybrid building system composed by steel frames on the ground floor and unreinforced masonry at the upper floors. The seismic assessment and the identification of the collapse mechanism of this building typology have been carried out using the Finite Element Method. Seismic loading has been simulated through non-linear static (pushover) analyses in two main directions (parallel and perpendicular to the façades).
