New applications of a fuzzy expert system (FES) for direct control of traffic lights in the areas of locks and one-way sections on inland waterways are presented. FES implements the knowledge of experts in the field of water transport on a controller. FES-SL (application in ship locks) was created for a single-chamber two-way ship lock. The system decides when the lock process will be performed depending on the current requests and queues. FES-1WS (application in one-way sections) was created for a canal network with sections where one-way vessel traffic is allowed due to the width limitation. The system is applicable for different traffic densities (from 10 to 90 vessels per day) and different lengths of one-way sections (from 2km to 24km).

This paper describes developing a web-based knowledge platform, which would become a 'meeting place' on the Internet for all interested market participants (stakeholders) in business with agricultural production in a controlled environment - greenhouses. The developed platform will allow better visibility of the agricultural products and their positioning in the market, better advertising of the products and increase the possibility of creating products according to market demands. Proposed approach will concentrate the knowledge and information so that every single participant in the market will get timely and appropriate responses to his questions and issues. That way of solving the problems will significantly shorten the time of searching for an answer and avoid 'wandering' that unnecessarily consume all the resources (time, money, energy).

This paper presents a modern SCADA system suitable for the production of soybean flakes, particularly the desolventizing-toasting process as a part of hexane solvent extraction. The system was tested and commissioned at the factory for soybean processing Sojaprotein a.d., Bečej in Bečej, Serbia. The observed production process consisted of two plants, one previously existing and the other newly assembled, running in parallel. The present system facilitated the increased productivity, efficient material and energy use, and easy control from a central control room. By means of this system, the operators were able to respond timely to unforeseen situations, which ultimately reduced the total production costs.

This paper presents design of electrical schematics and technical drawings by Eplan Electric P8 Educational. It is contemporary software tool for computer added design (CAD) of control cabinets. Technical documentation is divided into schematics and reports. Schematics are based on the graphical symbols and reports are given in tabular or graphical form. Graphical symbols are presented with standardized symbols or device macros. Reports can be generated automatically based on schematic. Numerous types of reports are supported cable and terminal strip overview, cable and terminal diagram, PLC overview and diagram. Major national and international standards are supported. For efficient and quality schematic design users are advised to get proper training through Eplan Certified Student (ECS) or Eplan Certified Technician (ECT) programs.

Modern production processes request modern solutions in the field of control and supervision. As present SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems are based on computer and communication technologies, they are also high influenced with them. Today's trend in modern SCADA system is a usage of tools and techniques from computer technologies and communication. It provides the possibility to design a SCADA system efficiently with easy access to process data, for instance with using web protocol and cloud computing. Second major advantage of using computer technologies is integration of modern databases in SCADA system. This trend push SCADA systems from local applications to distributed systems based on modern internet protocols and make collected information more accessible to users.

Modern production processes necessitate modern means of communication. Different applications feature different data volumes and bandwidths. It is at times required to transfer just a couple of alphanumerical characters, whereas other occasions demand a live streaming of high-definition audio and video data. This paper presents an overview of communication possibilities and proposes appropriate application tools. Modern communication technologies have different tools for achieving these goals. Mobile communication and the widespread Internet access provide the necessary tools, while constant changes in the filed open new possibilities. It is essential to comprehend the possibilities of different means of communication in order to determine their proper utilization for different purposes.

This paper presents the application of some well-known global optimization techniques in optimization of an expert system controlling a ship locking process. Optimization was conducted in order to achieve better results in local distribution of ship arrivals, i.e. lower waiting times for ships and less empty lockages. Particle swarm optimization, artificial bee colony optimization and genetic algorithm were used. The results shown in this paper confirmed that all these procedures show similar results and provide overall improvement of ship lock operation performance, which speaks in favor of their application in similar transportation problem optimization.

This paper covers a case study for broken bar detection for 3.2 MW motor in a thermal power plant application. One phase current acquisition is considered. Feature extraction is based on transient and steady state analysis. Fourier, Hilbert and Wavelet transforms are used. Working conditions implicate low shaft load setting. It is shown that reliable broken bar detection is possible when contemporary digital signal processing techniques are used.

This paper presents the development and implementation of expert systems for process control of fish processing. The plant is intended for primary fish processing, freezing and packaging. In order to improve the pace of production, an expert system based on fuzzy logic is designed and developed. Inputs in the fuzzy expert system are the speed of conveyors in the plant, the temperature of frozen fish and desired processed fish quantity. The expert system estimates amount of processed fish from each subsystem and the total quantity of processed fish. Expert system for management in such a facility sets the trends that benefit everyone from top level management to plant operators. The system could have more applications; the prediction of fish to be processed and to point out the problems in the sub-systems and failure of the machines.

The authors would like to draw attention to the increasing need for supervisory control software in agriculture and other industries. The possession and use of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) software today has become a necessity. This paper is intended to show all the benefits of this software. SCADA systems allow for acquisition, storing and analyzing signals from the field. Today such systems are increasingly present on the market. Special attention is given to examples of SCADA systems in agriculture. One chapter presents examples of developed and tested SCADA systems in production of soy flour and grits and textured soy proteins, in a plant for the production of mineral fertilizers, plant for the production of vegetable oil and in cold storages. All of these SCADA systems are implemented in various facilities in Serbia. The paper also describes the authors' experience in creating, testing and commissioning of SCADA systems.

This paper shows the optimization of the parameters of PI controllers in the application of vector control of a three-phase induction motor by genetic algorithm for the set optimality criterion. There is also the projecting procedure as well as the comparative analysis of the performances of speed estimator based on MRAS observer and speed estimator based on ANN. The basis of the research is a mathematical model of vector control of a three-phase induction motor, which was developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The experimental analysis of the results was carried on the laboratory model of electric motor drive based on the dSPACE card. The application of the encoder provides a smaller measurement error, whereas the application of estimators is possible in the cases for which pinpoint accuracy is not required and for which the price and/or reliability are of greater interest.

This paper describes the SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) software in the plant for production of soy flour and grits and textured soy proteins (TSP), which relies on PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Six touch panels in the field are networked with two PC's in control room and together make a system that on one side communicates with the PLC and on the other side allows operators access to all parts of the plant. The additional features of software are: the alertness to the possible excesses of the system via alarm messages, the graphical representation of tags in form of a tables or trends, archiving information in a database, creating reports, etc... The software is designed with the suggestions of operators who have extensive experience in the management of these plants. The software was tested and put into operation in the factory 'Soyaprotein' in Becej, Serbia.

In this paper is shown optimal auto-tuning procedure for tuning of temperature controller in a process of fruit and vegetables dehydration. The dehydrating process is the first order model with transport delay. For temperature control, a proportional-integral-derivative controller is used. Optimization of controller is obtained by conducting relay feedback experiment, estimating the ultimate gain and ultimate frequency based on which controller parameters are chosen. Performances obtained by auto-tuning procedure are compared with Haalman's procedure which is based on open loop experiment. When optimal temperature controller is used significant improvement of fruit and vegetables dehydrating process is achieved and more energy efficient system is obtained.

Modern supervisory control systems cover a large number of different solutions for different production processes. A pneumatic transport process of powdered and granular materials served as an example in this paper. The supervisory control system performs a task of controlling and supervising transport paths. The paper presents a possible solution for a supervisory control system and its practical realization. The task of this SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system is to meet all functional requirements and to offer a user-friendly everyday production system. The practical implementation of SCADA system is based on the underlying programmable logic controller. The solution presented in the paper can be used in similar transport systems in production plants.

Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems reached great progress by virtue of the strong development of computer and communication technologies that allow acquisition from distributed places through modern communication networks and protocols, central data processing and presentation on high resolution screens. Summarized information in one monitoring system is the solution that provides material savings. This paper analyzes advantages and disadvantages of this approach with respect to initial costs, maintenance costs and robustness and reliability. It provides real data from implemented system in boiler plant in company Victoriaoil in Šid (Serbia). Data acquisition is configured using WinCC Siemens software. This implementation allows significant savings but preserves high performance of the system.

This paper presents development of an Expert System (ES) for controlling ship lock that relies on fuzzy logic. In reality, ship lock control is mostly based on the subjective estimations and the experience of a ship lock operator. A control algorithm is constructed according to a set of linguistic rules that describes the operator's control strategy. A set of ship traffic data is generated for analysis and simulation purposes based on the annual distribution of ship arrivals at the lock. Two criteria are presented and used in parallel with the Fuzzy ES (FES). FES was developed with the suggestions of operators who have extensive experience in ship lock control. The presented control system can be used for support in decision making and in training of new operators of ship locks. Results obtained in simulations clearly indicate that fuzzy logic can be successfully used to describe human thinking and reasoning.

Modern information technology, which is an integral part of everyday life, may be applied in the field of supervision and control. Widely used technology can be applied relatively easily in the field of supervision and control, either in industrial or laboratory facilities. This paper shows potential application of WEB technology in supervision and indirect control of electrical power consumption within the plants of process manufacturing. Practical applications may serve as a way of showing one of the possible results of WEB technology in supervision and control. There is a structure of communication channels in which collecting and storing the data are carried out, whereby the overview of the results is particularly emphasized. The basic advantages are that there are no spatial limitations - the only limitation is the availability of a communication channel, or communication infrastructure. A standard WEB 'browser' was used and thus a general application was achieved since all modern communication devices are equipped with a WEB 'browser'.

The paper presents the method of the broken bar detection based on analysis of an induction motor start-up current for no load case. Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is far the most popular approach to detect induction motor failures these days due to its benefits. The transient analysis is conducted by calculating power spectrum density (PSD) via Sort Time Fourier Transformation (STFT). Discriminative feature is obtained by calculating skenwness statistical parameter for given PSD for total amount of power per segment. It is shown that values for chosen features differ for healthy and broken bar rotor condition for a wide load range. Based on the proposed features estimation of rotor condition can be made. Study is done on real motor data collected from laboratory and industrial environment.

This paper describes the connecting of different plants within the processing industry using modern technologies. The basic idea is to show the ability of linking different manufacturer's equipment into a single supervisory system. The contemporary manufacturing requires modern solutions in the field of supervision and management so as to increase the efficiency and reduce the production costs of the final product. The connectivity solution shown in this paper is in line with modern trends and demands of the real production process. The described system was practically implemented in the plant using the internationally standardized communication media and protocols. The practical implementation provided users with a better insight into the production process by providing a number of possibilities for data collecting and analysis.

The paper deals with the survey of some know online methods for broken rotor bar (BB) detection within induction motors and provides an overview of the method for fault detection via the radial basis function (RBF) artificial neural network (ANN). The condition monitoring of electric machinery can significantly reduce the cost of maintenance and the risk of unexpected failures by allowing the early detection of potentially catastrophic faults. The rotor faults account for 10% of overall induction motor faults. As classification features, the characteristic sidebands values extracted from line current spectrum are taken. Based on the chosen features, it is possible to classify induction motors in one of the two following groups: correct or BB fault in online working mode. If broken bar occurs, the proposed models give the estimation of the number of broken rotor bars. A motor must be connected to the mains for the direct online start at nominal load; there is no possibility for a multi-fault detection mode.
