Abstract Information about the concordance between dynamic emotional experiences and objective signals is practically useful. Previous studies have shown that valence dynamics can be estimated by recording electrical activity from the muscles in the brows and cheeks. However, whether facial actions based on video data and analyzed without electrodes can be used for sensing emotion dynamics remains unknown. We investigated this issue by recording video of participants’ faces and obtaining dynamic valence and arousal ratings while they observed emotional films. Action units (AUs) 04 (i.e., brow lowering) and 12 (i.e., lip-corner pulling), detected through an automated analysis of the video data, were negatively and positively correlated with dynamic ratings of subjective valence, respectively. Several other AUs were also correlated with dynamic valence or arousal ratings. Random forest regression modeling, interpreted using the SHapley Additive exPlanation tool, revealed non-linear associations between the AUs and dynamic ratings of valence or arousal. These results suggest that an automated analysis of facial expression video data can be used to estimate dynamic emotional states, which could be applied in various fields including mental health diagnosis, security monitoring, and education.

Introduction: The study aimed to ascertain how the faculty at the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University perceived their role as a tutor during a problem-based learning activity during the academic phase of medical education, based on the length of time they acted as a tutor. Methods: This was prospective observational research with an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, which was performed at the Undergraduate Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, from January 2023 until May 2023. Research subjects were divided into two groups: a) the Novice group and b) the Expert group. Introduction: 1000 First Days of Life (1000FDL) training program is carried out for 2 years from the 3rd to 6th semester;in this program, students are asked to accompany pregnant women until their children are 2 years old. This study aimed to analyse undergraduate medical students’ communication skills and empathy levels and determine the association between communication skills and empathy after the training program.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which 176 undergraduate medical students in Hasanuddin Universityparticipated; they were enrolled in 1000FDL training program and selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using Modified Arabic Version of the ABIM’s Patient Assessment (MAV-ABIM) and Jefferson Scale of Empathy – Student Version (JSE-S) questionnaires to assess their level of communication skills and empathy. In this study, demographic data were obtained using a semi-open-ended questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-Square, and Spearman tests.Results: Communication skill was very good (83.5%), good (15.9%), and inadequate (0.6%), while the empathy level washigh (9.1%), medium (25%), and low (65.9%). There was no significant difference between the level of communication skills (P=0.168) and empathy (P=0.145) based on gender, but there was a significant difference between 12 times interaction with the empathy level (P

Background: Osteoarthritis currently remains a significant health problem due to its high prevalence and morbidity rate. Radiological examination is still used as a gold standard to determine the severity of knee osteoarthritis by using Kellgren-Lawrence grading. Dextrose prolotherapy has been known to be effective in treating pain in knee osteoarthritis, but none has compared the efficacy between mild and moderate-severe knee osteoarthritis. Objective: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of prolotherapy based on its radiological and symptomatic severity in knee osteoarthritis. Methods: In this pre-post study, the participants who underwent dextrose prolotherapy injection (25% intra-articular and 15% periarticular) for three sessions with four weeks intervals were grouped into mild (grade 1-2) and severe (grade 3-4) groups. Participants’ functional status was measured with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities’ arthritis index scores at baseline and week 12. Results: A total of 21 patients (average age 61.42 ± 8.33, BMI 26.81± 3.72) received three therapy sessions. Both groups had significantly better Western Ontario and McMaster Universities arthritis index scores than baseline (-22.57± 11.9; p = 0.002 and -15.42 ± 15.75; p = 0.003). All parameters were improved significantly (p 0.05; CI 95%: -21.3 – 7.05). Conclusion: Prolotherapy effectively improves functional outcomes in all stages of knee osteoarthritis.

Purpose: To prove the effect of Miana (M), Quercetin (Q), and the combination as an anti-inflammatory agent and Cefixime (C) as an antibiotic in Balb/c mice infected with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi) and related to the dynamics of NF-κB mRNA expression and NF-κB protein levels. Methods: A cohort study on male Balb/c mice with subjects consisted of 8 groups with 5 each group by administration of M, Q, M + Q, M + C, Q + C, M + Q + C, C only and sterile distilled water group as negative control. The statistical significance of the difference group was defined as P values less than 0.05. Results: Decreased mRNA expression of NF-κB, NF-κB protein levels, and bacterial load after administration of M + C, Q + C, or M + Q + C showed significant differences when compared to the negative control. The decline in NF-κB was stronger when M + Q + C was given compared to M, Q, M + Q, or C only. Conclusion: The effects of NF-κB suppression appear to be the same between the administration of M, Q and the M + Q when C added. However, the suppression of NF-κB was not significant without adding C.

Background: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is produced at varying levels in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is one of the new inflammatory markers of COVID-19. This study aimed to evaluate the differences in IL-6 level and the NLR in mild and severe COVID-19 and assess their correlation with COVID-19 severity and the correlation of IL-6 and NLR in COVID-19. Methods: A total of 91 patients with COVID-19 were divided into mild (n = 57) and severe (n = 34) COVID-19 groups. IL-6 levels were measured using the electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method on Roche Cobas e411. The NLR was the ratio of the total neutrophil and lymphocyte counts from complete haematology on the Sysmex XS-800i. Data were analysed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Mann–Whitney, receiver operating characteristic curve, chi-square and Spearman correlation tests. The statistical test was significant at p 6.99 pg/mL and >4.18, with odds ratios of 29.29 and 26.19, respectively. A positive correlation was found between IL-6 and NLR and COVID-19 severity (r = 0.612; p 6.99 pg/mL and NLR >4.18 are 29 and 26 times more likely to suffer from severe COVID-19, respectively. Serum IL-6 levels and NLR are strongly correlated with COVID-19 severity. Serum IL-6 levels correlate with NLR in COVID-19.

الملخص: أهداف البحث: الظفرة هي كتلة العين الخارجية الليفية الوعائية التي تنمو من الملتحمة إلى القرنية. لم يتم التحقيق في تأثير الحقن تحت الملتحمة لتريامسينولون وبيفاسيزوماب بشكل كاف في جميع أنحاء العالم. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل تعبير انترلوكين-١ بعد حقن تريامسينولون بيفاسيزوماب تحت الملتحمة. طرق البحث: تم تقسيم جميع المرضى بصورة عشوائية إلى ثلاث مجموعات. كل ٥ عيون في مجموعة تريامسينولون ومجموعة بيفاسيزوماب ومجموعة الدواء الوهمي. تم حقن جميع الأشخاص تحت الملتحمة قبل أسبوع واحد من الجراحة، ثم أجريت الجراحة بتقنية الطعم الذاتي. تضمنت مقاييس النتائج الرئيسية تغييرات في تعبير انترلوكين-١ حمض ريبونيوكليك المرسال بين مجموعة تريامسينولون، بيفاسيزوماب، ومجموعات الدواء الوهمي. النتائج: تم الانتهاء من جميع العينات بعد شهر واحد من المتابعة. كانت التغيرات في مستويات الدم لتعبير انترلوكين-١ حمض ريبونيوكليك المرسال في مجموعة بيفاسيزوماب ٤.٨١ ± ٠.٥٢، وكانت مجموعة تريامسينولون ٣.٤٠ ± ٢.٦٣، وكانت مجموعة الدواء الوهمي ١.٠٨± ١.٤٨، على التوالي. في المقارنة بين المجموعات، كان هناك تأثير معنوي بين مجموعة بيفاسيزوماب ومجموعة الدواء الوهمي، ٣.٧٣ ± ١.١٢، مع عدم وجود تأثير معنوي في مجموعة تريامسينولون، ١.٤٠± ١.١٢. الاستنتاجات: كان الحقن تحت الملتحمة بيفاسيزوماب وتريامسينولون قبل الجراحة فعالا في قمع الالتهاب في الظفرة. Abstract: Objectives: Pterygium is a fibrovascular external ocular mass that grows from the conjunctiva into the cornea. The effect of subconjunctival injection of triamcinolone and bevacizumab has been inadequately investigated worldwide. This study aims to analyse the expression of IL-1 after the injection of triamcinolone and bevacizumab subconjunctiva. Methods: All patients are randomized into three groups: the triamcinolone, bevacizumab group, and placebo groups, with 5 patients in each in group. All subjects are injected subconjunctivally one week before surgery, and then surgery is performed with the autograft technique. The main outcome measures include changes in the IL-1 mRNA expression between the triamcinolone, bevacizumab, and placebo groups. Results: All samples are completed after one month of follow-up. The changes in blood levels of mRNA IL-1 expression are as follows: 4.81 ± 0.52 in the bevacizumab group, 3.40 ± 2.63 in the triamcinolone group, and 1.08 ± 1.48 in the placebo group (p = 0.04). In the comparison between groups, there is a significant effect between the bevacizumab and placebo groups, 3.73 ± 1.12 (p = 0.00), with no significant effect in the triamcinolone group, 1.40 ± 1.12 (p = 0.06). Conclusion: The subconjunctival injection of bevacizumab and triamcinolone before surgery is effective in suppressing inflammation in pterygium.

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is known to release a specific exosome. NPC-derived exosome (NPC-Exo) could carry p53. However, information regarding the type of p53 carrier on NPC-Exo remains limited. This study aims to introduce our important findings regarding the type of p53 NPC-Exo cargo. METHODS: Serum from patients with NPC were prepared for exosome isolation with Seramir Exoquick by following the manual instructions. RT-PCR was conducted to determine the expression levels of latent membrane protein 1 (LMP-1) and p53 in the exosome isolate. Partial sequencing of p53 amplicon was conducted to determine mutation type of p53. RESULTS: There were 8 patients enrolled in this study. According to RT-PCR results, the expression levels of LMP-1 and p53 varied in the NPC-Exo isolate. Based on sequencing analysis, 1 case of p53 mutation was noticeable. CONCLUSION: According to current results, the NPC-derived exosome potentially carries not only wild type but also mutant type p53. Further research is needed to explore deeper the effect of the mutant type p53 as an exosome carrier in the clinical application. KEYWORDS: Nasopharyngeal cancer, exosome, p53, mutation

Background: This study aims to prove the healing results (regeneration) in cartilage defects using a combination treatment of microfractures and transplantation synovium-platelet rich fibrin (S-PRF). Methods: A cartilage defect was made in the trochlear groove of the knee of adult New Zealand white rabbits, and was classified into three treatment groups. The group 1 was cartilage defect without treatment, 2 with microfracture treatment, and 3 with microfracture covered with a synovium-platelet rich fibrin (S-PRF) membrane. Twelve weeks after the intervention, the animals were macroscopically and histologically examined, and evaluated by the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS). Additionally, the expression of aggrecan and type 2 collagen was examined by real-time-PCR. Results: The ICSR scores for macroscopic were significantly higher in the microfracture and S-PRF transplant group than in the other groups. Also, the ICSR scores for histology were significantly higher in this group. The expression of aggrecan and type 2 collagen was higher in the group that received complete treatment. Conclusions: Microfractures and transplantation of synovium-platelet rich fibrin (S-PRF) can regenerate knee cartilage defects which have been shown to increase the expression of mRNA aggrecan and mRNA type 2 collagen resulting in excellent repair.

Land management practices have the propensity to influence soil infiltration characteristics and predictability of infiltration models. This study was conducted to evaluate the performances of the Kostiakov model, the Philip model and the Horton model in predicting cumulative infiltration depth under four tillage systems in a sandy clay loam: (i) No Tillage (NT), (ii) Reduced Tillage (RT), (iii) Ploughing followed by Harrowing and Ridging (PHR), and (iv) Deep tillage followed by Ploughing, Harrowing and Ridging (DPHR). Using the double ring infiltrometer to measure the infiltration rate, the observed data was fitted to the infiltration models and their goodness of fit was verified by Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), coefficient of determination (R2), Nash Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) and paired sample t-test. The results show that the Kostiakov model exhibited the highest accuracy with the highest R2 and NSE values (R2≥0.9967 and NSE ≥ 0.9965) and lowest errors (RMSE≤ 1.16 mm and MAE ≤ 0.98 mm). The comparison of the performances of the models in predicting the cumulative infiltration depth revealed that the Kostiakov model is superior to the Philip and the Horton models under all the Tillage systems, as the Philip and the Horton models underestimated and overestimated the observed data at the initial and latter parts of the experiment, respectively. The observed and predicted cumulative infiltration depth compared using the paired sample t-test showed that the Kostiakov model was better than the Horton and the Philip models under NT, RT and PHR, while the Horton model predicted better on the DPHR than the Kostiakov and the Philip models. The infiltration capacities of the conservation tillage practices (NT and RT) were higher than the conventional tillage conditions (PHR and DPHR). However, the performance of the evaluated models in predicting cumulative infiltration shows that the measured infiltration was best simulated for the DPHR followed by the PHR, RT and NT tillage practices. From our study the Kostiakov model precisely predicted the cumulative infiltration depth relative to the Horton and Philip models. It is, therefore, the preferred choice for modelling cumulative infiltration depth in the ochrosols of the study area and under verified field conditions, these models can be applied to determine the suitable infiltration characteristics to minimise deep percolation and run off losses in irrigation scheduling.

BACKGROUND: Some of colorectal cancers (CRCs) are familial, however, heterozygote relatives have approximately 80% lifetime risk of cancer. Risk assessment of CRC’s family could be calculated by direct measurement of mRNA gene expression and Bayesian theorem which is modifying initial background of pedigree risk with additional conditional information. This application has not been reported. METHODS: The cross-sectional translational sequential studies were performed: (1) adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) and MutS homolog (MSH)2 mRNA quantitative RT PCR gene expressions in tissue and whole blood CRC patients; (2) gene expression was determined in matched controls; and (3) pedigree and Bayesian analysis was calculated in the patient’s family of Proband. RESULTS: Fourty CRC and 31 control subjects were enrolled. The mean blood APC level control’s group was 13,261±670 fold-change (fc) and blood MSH2 level was 12,219±756 fc. The cut-off points for hereditary APC was 12,195 fc and MSH2 was 11,059 fc. The mean APC blood level in CRC subject was 11,578±2,638 fc and MSH2 blood level was 11,411±2,912 fc. There were significant differences APC and MSH level between tissue and blood level in CRC. Eight of 40 CRC subjects had a history of familial CRC. Four patients and 10 Probands were available for recurrence risk evaluation of pedigree analysis, RNA PCR quantitative and Bayesian calculation. CONCLUSION: There was determined a cut-off point of hereditary mRNA quantitative expression. The APC and MSH2 levels in CRC subjects were significantly lower than controls. Bayesian analysis allowed for the calculation of relative risk in CRC family members and considered in clinical practice. KEYWORDS: hereditary CRC, APC gene, MSH gene, Bayesian analysis

Vitreous and serum samples were obtained on the same day. The VEGF-A and PDGF-AB concentrations were calculated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results: The VEGF-A and PDGF-AB concentrations in vitreous samples were significantly higher in the PDR group (630.72 ± 342.81 pg/mL) compared with those in the control group (153.58 ± 145.85 pg/mL); however, they were not detected in serum samples. The vitreous/serum ratio of the VEGF-A concentration in the PDR group (2.1 ± 1.8) was significantly higher compared with that in the control group (0.31 ± 0.33). The VEGF-A concentrations in vitreous samples were highest in the VH group and lowest in the VH with fibrotic tissue subgroup (mean difference 536.16 pg/mL). The vitreous VEGF-A/PDGF-AB concentration ratios were also significantly different among the PDR subgroups.Conclusion: High concentrations of VEGF and PDGF in vitreous samples of PDR eyes indicate its local related activity in PDR pathology. There is a possibility of PDGF involvement in the pathogenesis of PDR. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a serious and emergency condition that may cause visual disturbance. Treatment includes pars plana vitrectomy with a tamponade such as intraocular gas or silicone oil (SO). In many countries, silicone oil is still favorable compared to intraocular gases as tamponade for reattachment of retinal detachment surgery. The application provides a higher anatomical success rate, especially in cases of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) that were previously considered untreatable. Objective assessment of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the eye with silicone oil tamponade is a challenge because of the limitations and difficulties in taking images. This study aims to assess the RNFL thickness changes in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment patients using SO tamponade and its subsequent removal conducted on a total of 35 post-operative RRD patients. Central macular and RNFL thickness, as well as best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), were recorded at the time of tamponade and after the removal of the SO at 1, 4, and 8 weeks, respectively. The results showed that the changes in RNFL thickness significantly decreased in the group of ≤6 months, especially in the superior and temporal quadrants, and BCVA increased after SO removal (p < 0.05). Central macular thickness was significant (p < 0.001) at the end of the visit. Improved visual acuity is associated with decreased RNFL and central macular thickness after SO removal.

Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a traditional plant that is widely used as antibacterial. This study to prove the effect of lime peel extract (LPE) on the growth of bacterial colonization of S. Typhi medited by activity of IL-6. True experimental pre-post test design, mice were divided into; LPE 510 mg/kgbw, LPE 750 mg/kgbw, positive and negative control. The examination was carried out 3 times, the 5th day before the intervention, the 10th day after the intervention and the 30th day after maintenance. Intervention LPE for 5 days can decreased the number of S. Typhi colonies, even maintenance for 20 days after the intervention showed no bacterial growth . IL-6 pro-inflammatory cytokine activity increased on examination day 5 after S.Typhi injection and decreased after intervention on day 10, significantly different between pre and post at all groups except negative controls (p=0.15). The speed of decrease in IL-6 levels was greatest at the LPE 750 mg/kgbw (velocity=-5.64%). LPE decreased serum levels of IL-6 and inhibit the growth of S. Typhi colony in mice Balb/c. LPE have potential as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Due to many cases of antibiotic resistance in typhoid fever, efforts have been made to combine antibiotic therapy or active compounds with herbs. Curcumin is an active compound found in herbal plants. Curcumin has an antimicrobial effect; through binding to vitamin D receptors as a ligand, this increases the expression of mRNA CAMP gene and eradicates bacteria. 25 Adult balb/c mice, aged 8-12 weeks and weighing 30-40 grams, were induced with S. Typhi via intraperitoneal. They were randomly allocated in equal blocks to receive CM200 (Curcumin 200 mg/kg), CM400 (Curcumin 400 mg/kg), CM200+Vit.D(Curcumin 200 mg/kg with Vitamin D), positive control or negative control for 5 days. Mice were then maintained for 3 weeks to determine the amount of colony in the post-intervention period and the level of mRNA CAMP gene. Real time PCR was used to measure the expression of CAMP gene. The level of mRNA gene CAMP expression significantly increased in CM200 (2.01±0.75) and CM400 (4.06±0.68), pdifference< 0.0001. The highest increase of CAMP gene expression was observed in CM200+Vit.D(5.47±0.53), pdifference< 0.0001. Curcumin increased the mRNA expression of CAMP gene.

Young women have a high risk of anemia, this is due to iron loss during menstruation. Female teenagers have an increased risk of anemia compared to young men because young women experience menstruation every month and the desire to reduce food so that the body lacks important nutrients such as iron. This study aims to determine the effect of dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on increasing hemoglobin levels in young women. This study used an experimental design with pretest-posttes with control group design. The sample in this research is student Prodi DIII Kebidanan. The total sample of 32 female students was divided into 2 groups, 16 female students were given dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) as intervention group and 16 female students who were given nutrition education as control group. Measurements of hemoglobin levels were performed before and after treatment for 8 weeks, periodic measurements were performed every 2 weeks. Data analysis using Paired t-test. The results showed no effect but no significant difference of dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) to increase hemoglobin level in female adolescent (P> 0,05).

Objective: To assess the effects of dextrose prolotherapy in patients with knee osteoarthritis on the levels of serum cartilage oligomeric proteinase and urinary C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen, and on the Western Ontario McMaster Universities Index and numerical rating scale score for pain. Methods: A randomized controlled trial, in which participants were randomly allocated into 2 groups, receiving injections of either hyaluronic acid or dextrose prolotherapy. The hyaluronic acid group received 5 injections, 1 each on weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the dextrose prolotherapy group received 3 injections, 1 each on weeks 1, 5 and 9. Serum cartilage oligomeric proteinase, urinary C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen, Western Ontario McMaster Universities Index score, and numerical rating scale score for pain were measured at baseline and 3 weeks after the last injection. Comparative analysis was conducted using Wilcoxon test within groups and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) test between groups. Results: A total of 47 participants (21 allocated to hyaluronic acid, 26 allocated to dextrose prolotherapy) completed the protocol. Both interventions resulted in significant improvements in numerical rating scale scores for pain, total Western Ontario McMaster Universities Index scores, and its subscales score. However, the dextrose prolotherapy outperformed hyaluronic acid in numerical rating scale score for pain and level of urinary C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen, with score changes differences of 0.93 (p = 0.042) and 0.34 (p = 0.048), respectively. No significant changes in level of serum cartilage oligomeric proteinase were found in either group. Conclusion: Dextrose prolotherapy is an alternative injection therapy for knee osteoarthritis, which was found to be associated with a significant reduction in urinary C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen compared with hyaluronic acid injection. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of learning media based on Augmented Reality (AR) on improving the physical examination skills of the urinary system of pregnant women. Method: This type of research is an experimental study with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design conducted in January–February 2020 at the Midwifery Polytechnic Laboratory of the Ministry of Health Gorontalo. A sample of 92 students was selected by purposive sampling and met the inclusion criteria. Then the sample was divided into two groups: a control group that was given material through lecture and demonstration methods totaling 30 respondents and an intervention group that was given material through AR learning media and a method of demonstration totaling 62 respondents. Method: This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) research design with the Borg & Gall development model to test the use of this product. The Quasi-Experimental research with a non-equivalent control group design was conducted in January–February 2020 at AKBID Pelamonia Makassar. AbstrakAntioksidan merupakan senyawa untuk pertahanan tubuh host terhadap radikal bebas. Pada pasien tuberkulosis paru (TB paru), rendahnya antioksidan menyebabkan kerusakan jaringan. Salah satu antioksidan tubuh adalah glutation. Rendahnya glutation berhubungan dengan gangguan sistem imun, sehingga menyebabkan keparahan penyakit pada pasien TB paru. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kadar glutation plasma penderita tuberkulosis paru. Desain penelitian ini adalah kohort prospektif. Sampel TB paru dipilih di Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat (BBKPM), Makassar yang sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi dan sesuai kadatangan (consecutive sampling). Dua mililiter darah diambil dari setiap sampel, kemudian dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar glutation dengan ELISA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar glutation sampel pasien TB paru sebelum pemberian obat antituberkulosis (OAT) sebesar 0,48383±0,0344 mM dan setelah pemberian OAT sebesar 0,49465±0,0371 mM. Setelah pemberian OAT kadar glutation mengalami peningkatan sebesar 2,2% meskipun masih lebih rendah dari kadar glutation normal. AbstractAntioxidants prevent hosts against free radicals. In pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients, the low level of antioxidants may cause tissue damage in oxidative hosts. One of antioxidants is glutathione. The poor glutathione level correlates with immune system disorder. The current study aimed to determine glutathione plasma levels in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The study design was prospective cohort. Pulmonary TB samples were obtained from patients in the Lung Health Centre (BBKPM) in Makassar, and they were selected based on the inclusive and exclusive criteria and on their admittance times (a consecutive sampling technique). Two mililiters of blood was taken from each sample and the glutathione level was examined using ELISA. The study indicated that the glutathione level of the pulmonary TB patients before administered with antitubeculosis drug was 0.48383±0.0344 mM and after antituberculosis drug was 0.49465±0.0371 mM. After administration of antituberculosis drug the glutathione level increased by 2.2%, although still lower than normal glutathione level.

The paper aims at discussing the difficulties that students from French speaking countries who are pursuing their education in a Ghanaian university face in identifying English determiners. This is a qualitative study that analysed the difficulties that level 100 Francophone students who have French as a Second Language(L2) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in a Ghanaian university face in identifying English determiners. The data used for the analysis comprised students' written exercises. The data gathered in the study were analysed qualitatively. The theoretical framework on which this research is based is article-focused theory which is discourse rule transfer propounded by Robertson (2000) as well as the semantic model developed by Huebner (1983), known as the "semantic wheel for noun phrase reference". The findings of the study depict that pre determiners, central determiners and post determiners were found in the data analysed. Central determiners recorded the highest number of 25 representing 64%, followed by pre determiners with 11 representing 28% and post determiners showing 3 determiners denoting 8%. Based on the findings, some pedagogical measures such as taking into consideration the needs analysis and teaching all the three types of determiners in context communication were proposed as means of minimising Francophone students' difficulties in English determiner system.

The Multiple Intelligence (MI) Theory has been recognised for its significance in education. This study aimed to provide a detailed examination of each intelligence and illustrate how different MIs work. The current study seeks to discover and link pre-service science teachers' numerous intellectual domains and learning style profiles. The survey method was used for the study, which included 150 pre-service science teachers. The "multiple intelligence domains inventory for educators" was utilised to collect data for the study. According to the findings, the use of MIs in science teaching is rarely mentioned, with the features of each intelligence in the context of the various science teaching methodologies. Further, the results indicated that the intelligences mentioned by Gardner could be found in the pre-service teachers in beginning their teaching. Logical-Mathematics was highly advanced among pre-service science teachers with the musical intelligence being the lowest. Gender differences were also found to exist between males and females in only two of the eight MIs, specifically, Logical-Mathematics and Visual-Spatial, which was also significant.

BackgroundDrugs taken during pregnancy can affect maternal and child health outcomes, but few studies have compared the safety and virological efficacy of different antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens. We report the primary safety outcomes from enrolment up to 50 weeks post partum and a secondary virological efficacy outcome at 50 weeks post partum of three commonly used ART regimens for HIV-1.MethodsIn this multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, we enrolled pregnant women aged 18 years or older with confirmed HIV-1 infection at 14-28 weeks of gestation. Women were enrolled at 22 clinical research sites in nine countries (Botswana, Brazil, India, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, the USA, and Zimbabwe). Participants were randomly assigned (1:1:1) to one of three oral regimens: dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide; dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate; or efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Up to 14 days of antepartum ART before enrolment was permitted. Women with known multiple gestation, fetal anomalies, acute significant illness, transaminases more than 2·5 times the upper limit of normal, or estimated creatinine clearance of less than 60 mL/min were excluded. Primary safety analyses were pairwise comparisons between ART regimens of the proportion of maternal and infant adverse events of grade 3 or higher up to 50 weeks post partum. Secondary efficacy analyses at 50 weeks post partum included a comparison of the proportion of women with plasma HIV-1 RNA of less than 200 copies per mL in the combined dolutegravir-containing groups versus the efavirenz-containing group. Analyses were done in the intention-to-treat population, which included all randomly assigned participants with available data. This trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03048422.FindingsBetween Jan 19, 2018, and Feb 8, 2019, we randomly assigned 643 pregnant women to the dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide group (n=217), the dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate group (n=215), and the efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate group (n=211). At enrolment, median gestational age was 21·9 weeks (IQR 18·3-25·3), median CD4 count was 466 cells per μL (308-624), and median HIV-1 RNA was 903 copies per mL (152-5183). 607 (94%) women and 566 (92%) of 617 liveborn infants completed the study. Up to the week 50 post-partum visit, the estimated probability of experiencing an adverse event of grade 3 or higher was 25% in the dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide group; 31% in the dolutegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate group; and 28% in the efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate group (no significant difference between groups). Among infants, the estimated probability of experiencing at least one adverse event of grade 3 or higher by postnatal week 50 was 28% overall, with small and non-statistically significant differences between groups. By postnatal week 50, 14 infants whose mothers were in the efavirenz-containing group (7%) died, compared with six in the combined dolutegravir groups (1%). 573 (89%) women had HIV-1 RNA data available at 50 weeks post partum: 366 (96%) in the dolutegravir-containing groups and 186 (96%) in the efavirenz-containing group had HIV-1 RNA less than 200 copies per mL, with no significant difference between groups.InterpretationSafety and efficacy data during pregnancy and up to 50 weeks post partum support the current recommendation of dolutegravir-based ART (particularly in combination with emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide) rather than efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, when started in pregnancy.FundingNational Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institute of Mental Health.

BackgroundSafe and potent antiretroviral medications in child-friendly formulations are needed to treat young children living with HIV-1. We aimed to select dosing for a dispersible tablet formulation of dolutegravir that achieved pharmacokinetic exposures similar to those in adults, and was safe and well tolerated in young children.MethodsInternational Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trial (IMPAACT) P1093 is a phase 1-2 ongoing multicentre, open-label, non-comparative study of dolutegravir. A 5 mg dispersible tablet formulation of dolutegravir was studied in children aged 4 weeks to less than 6 years old, weighing at least 3 kg, with HIV RNA of greater than 1000 copies per mL and no previous treatment with integrase strand transfer inhibitor recruited from IMPAACT clinical research sites in Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Doses were selected on the basis of intensive pharmacokinetic evaluation on days 5-10, with safety and tolerability assessed up to 48 weeks. The primary objectives of this study are to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of dolutegravir in combination with optimised background therapy and to establish the dose of dolutegravir that achieves the targeted 24-h trough concentration and 24-h area under the curve for infants, children, and adolescents with HIV-1, to establish the safety and tolerability of dolutegravir at 24 and 48 weeks, and to select a dose that achieves similar exposure to the dolutegravir 50 mg once daily dose in adults. This analysis included participants treated with the proposed dose of dolutegravir dispersible tablets in two stages for each of three age cohorts. European Union's energy roadmap up to year 2050 states that in order to have an efficient and sustainable economy, with minimum or decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, along with use of renewable resources, each constituent state has the option for nuclear energy production as one desirable option. Every scenario considered for tackling climate change issues, along with security of supply positions the nuclear energy as a recommended option, an option that is highly competitive with respect to others. Nuclear energy, along with other renewable power sources are considered to be the main pillars in the energy sector for greenhouse gas emission mitigation at European level. European Union considers that nuclear energy must be treated as a highly recommended option since it can contribute to security of energy supply. Romania showed excellent track-records in operating in a safe and economically sound manner of Cernavoda NPP Units 1&2. Both Units are in top 10 worldwide in terms of capacity factor. Due to Romania's need to ensure the security of electricity supply, to meet the environmental targets and to move to low carbon generation technologies, Cernavoda Units 3&4 Project appears as a must. This Project was started in 2010 and it is expected to have the Units running by 2025. Cost effective and safety operation of a Nuclear Power Plant is made taking into consideration functional limits of its equipment. As common practice, every nuclear reactor type (technology used) is tested according to the worse credible accident or equipment failure that can occur. For CANDU type reactor, this is a Loss of Cooling Accident (LOCA). In a LOCA type accident in a CANDU NPP, using RELAP/SCDAP code for fuel bundle damage assessment the radioactive nuclei are to be quantified. Recently, CANDU type NPP accidents are studied using the RELAP/SCDAP code only. The code formerly developed for PWR type reactors was adapted for the CANDU geometry and can assess the accident progression consequences up to a certain point. The code assesses the fuel bundle damage progression, but cannot assess further core damage for a CANDU type core, and starting from these data the amount of damaged fuel can be calculated. The radio nuclei present in the damaged fuel are supposed to be released into the main heat transport system and after that into the containment building in the worst case scenario. Assessing the radioactive nuclei maximum release is the purpose of the present paper. The radioactive nuclei release is needed for the accident management plan, limiting the environmental and population impact of the supposed accident, and furthermore for a later site remediation plan that can be put in action after the complete mitigation of the accident consequences. The maximum quantity of radio nuclei released during the accident calculated in this paper is a worst case scenario evaluation that can lead to better preparedness in an accident scenario.
