Abstract

Voltage-tunable plasmon resonances in the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) of a high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) fabricated from the InGaAs/InP materials system are reported. The device was fabricated from a commercial HEMT wafer by depositing source and drain contacts using standard photolithography and a semitransparent gate contact that consisted of a 0.5 μm period transmission grating formed by electron-beam lithography. Narrow-band resonant absorption of terahertz radiation was observed in transmission in the frequency range of 10–50 cm-1. The resonance frequency depends on the gate-tuned sheet charge density of the 2DEG. The observed separation of resonance fundamental from its harmonics and their shift with gate bias are compared with theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Seven secondary metabolites were isolated from the methanolic extracts of the roots and the aerial part of Cynoglossum columnae Ten. β-Arbutin and three pyrrolizidine alkaloids, namely 2′-epi-heliosupine N-oxide, rinderine N-oxide and 3′-O-acetylrinderine N-oxide were isolated from the aerial part of the plant. Echinatine N-oxide, rosmarinic acid and 9″-methyl lithospermate were isolated from the root extract. © 2016 Phytochemical Society of Europe. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

The medicinal and culinary properties of Angelica archangelica L. have been known and valued since the Middle Ages. Ingredients of essential oil and coumarins found in this plant are to a large degree responsible for its pharmacological activity. This study is a review of the literature of the most important biologically active compounds present in herbal raw materials: root (rhizome with roots) and angelica fruits. Research shows that the content of individual compounds of the essential oil and coumarin fraction is variable, which may point to a large intraspecific variation. Therefore, these compounds may be good markers for identifying taxa or chemotypes in chemotaxonomic research valuable for the herbal medicine and pharmaceutical industry.
