Wide temperature range, high UV/VUV intensities, and long duration of the BepiColombo mission impose stringent requirements on the materials of the spacecraft. One of the challenges is to keep critical parts of the spacecraft within acceptable temperature limits in the harsh conditions close to the Sun and Mercury. To this purpose, the High Gain Antenna (HGA) reflector and edges of the solar arrays are coated with the low solar absorptance, high emissivity NV14 white ceramic coating. However, UV/VUV radiation induces deposition of contaminants on the coating, potentially leading to significant increases of the solar absorptance values. Therefore, a prediction of the contamination effects on the solar absorptance of the coating during the entire mission is one of the crucial tasks. Several short environmental tests were initially performed aiming to investigate the contamination deposition on NV14 coating under UV/VUV radiation. However, the complexity of contamination deposition processes and the unknown influence of the large acceleration factors applied in these tests did not allow the development of a reliable model to predict the evolution of the solar absorptance during the mission lifetime. Therefore, it was decided to perform a long duration test (LDT), with a close to 1:10 test to mission duration ratio. Dedicated in-situ measurements techniques were developed to reduce actual test duration and avoid sample exposure to air.

The Bepi Colombo spacecraft was successfully launched on 20th October 2018 and is now on its way to Mercury. The materials and coatings on the Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) and Mercury Transfer Module (MTM) solar arrays will need to withstand a prolonged extreme environment of high-intensity UV radiation at high-temperature (HIHT). The solar arrays must be gradually off-pointed at close sun distances in order to avoid over-heating, up to an angle of over 70° at 0.3 AU for the MPO. This means that some of the materials and coatings, as well as the solar cells, will always be operating reasonably close to their temperature limits. Extensive on-ground testing was performed to qualify the solar arrays for the BepiColombo mission environment and during this testing some materials and coatings were pushed beyond acceptable performance limits. In this paper we give an overview of selected test programmes related to the solar array materials, and we present results of experimental investigations which provide some scientific insight into the likely causes of the materials degradation observed, and the lessons learnt in the cases where over-testing had occurred. This included testing on bare and bonded optical solar reflectors, solar cell cover glass and adhesive, and the solar array edge shields.

ESA Sentinel-4 mission will monitor trace gas concentrations and aerosols in the Earth’s atmosphere with a 1-hour revisit frequency and unprecedented spatial resolution. Initial performance predictions, relying on literature/historical values for optical absorption coefficients, revealed considerable losses at the end of the mission lifetime caused mainly by high levels of absorption of light due to molecular contamination spread over the 39 optical surfaces of the UVIS channel. This publication describes the significant effort undertaken by Sentinel-4 team to establish more reliable and accurate performance predictions, and the importance of performing measurements under representative conditions of the instrument’s contamination environment. The refined performance prediction analysis was the final step of the activity, demonstrating that the end of life performance requirements of Sentinel-4 will be met.

SolarWhite is a diffusely reflective (white) inorganic thermal-control surface tailored for use in high-temperature environments, including European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter mission. The material is applied via a liquid spray process to substrates including, but not limited to, titanium and aluminum alloys and requires a multistage thermal curing cycle. This coating is required to exhibit long-term thermal/thermo-optical stability under extreme ultraviolet, vacuum-ultraviolet, proton, and electron radiation while possessing the electrical conductivity necessary to prevent surface arcing or internal electrostatic discharge in service, with specific requirements for the Solar Orbiter mission. Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar o equilíbrio dinâmico em praticantes experientes e iniciantes de Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) e grupo controle. A amostra do presente estudo foi composta por 34 participantes, com idades entre 20 e 42 anos, divididos em três grupos: 10 praticantes de BJJ Experientes, 12 praticantes de BJJ Iniciantes e 12 não praticantes de BJJ que compuseram o grupo controle. A tarefa do protocolo consistiu na busca do equilíbrio sobre um estabilômetro, com o objetivo de manter a plataforma o mais perto possível da posição horizontal (ângulo de 0 a 3º de desvio máximo) durante cada tentativa de 90 segundos. Os resultados demonstram diferenças significativas entre os grupos [F(2,31) = 30,24; p < 0,001]. Através dos testes de "post-hoc" foram detectadas diferenças entre o grupo Experientes (46 ± 14 s) e os outros dois grupos, Iniciantes (25 ± 6 s, p < 0,001) e Grupo Controle (19 ± 4 s, p < 0,001). Todavia, não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre os Grupo Controle e Iniciantes (p = 0,421). Os resultados sugerem que o tempo de prática de BJJ pode influenciar no desempenho do controle do equilíbrio.

OBJETIVO: comparar as imagens radiológicas da espondilodiscite tuberculosa e a inespecífica. MÉTODOS: estudo retrospectivo mediante revisão de prontuários e exames de imagem dos pacientes portadores de discite inespecífica e específica pelo Micobacterium tuberculosis, que realizaram tratamento, pelo Grupo de Coluna do Departamento de Ortopedia e Traumatologia no período de 1989 a Agosto de 2009. RESULTADOS: foram analisados 48 prontuários e arquivos de imagens de pacientes portadores de discite tuberculosa (Tbc) e 31 de pacientes portadores de discite inespecífica. Dos portadores de espondilite tuberculosa, também denominada mal de Pott, 54% eram do sexo masculino. A idade variou de 3 a 87 anos com média de 44,1 anos. Nos pacientes portadores de discite inespecífica, 68% eram do sexo masculino, e a idade variou de 2 meses a 76 anos. O padrão radiográfico predominante na discite por Tbc foi o acunhamento da região anterior do corpo vertebral em 88,2% dos casos. Nos pacientes com discite inespecífica, a diminuição do espaço discal foi o achado mais prevalente, encontrado em 87% dos casos. CONCLUSÃO: A discite por Tbc apresentou nesta série uma maior prevalência de alterações estruturais importantes na coluna vertebral, como a cifose, e reação paravertebral em relação à discite inespecífica. Enquanto a prevalência de infecção inespecífica foi maior em pacientes pediátricos, a discite por Tbc teve prevalência progressivamente maior com o aumento da idade dos pacientes.OBJETIVO: comparar las imágenes radiológicas de la espondilodiscitis tuberculosis y la no específica. RESULTADOS: se analizaron 48 historias clínicas y archivos de imagen de los pacientes con discitis tuberculosis (Tbc) y 31 pacientes con discitis no específica. De los pacientes con mal de Pott, el 54% eran del sexo masculino. La edad osciló entre 3 a 87 años con una media de 44,1 años. En los pacientes con discitis no específica, el 68% eran del sexo masculino, la edad osciló entre 2 meses a 76 años. El patrón radiológico predominante en discitis tuberculosis fue el acuñamiento del cuerpo vertebral anterior en 88,2% de los casos. En los pacientes con discitis no específica, la disminución de espacio en el disco fue el hallazgo más frecuente, que se encuentra en el 87% de los casos. CONCLUSIÓN: la discitis tuberculosis presentó en esta serie un mayor prevalencia de cambios estructurales importantes en la columna vertebral, como la cifosis y la reacción paravertebral en relación a la discitis no específica. Por lo cuanto, la prevalencia de infección no especifica fue mayor en pacientes pediátricos, la discitis tuberculosis tubo una prevalencia progresivamente mayor con el aumento de la edad de los pacientes.OBJECTIVE: to compare the radiological images of tuberculosis and nonspecific spondylodiscitis. METHODS: a retrospective study by reviewing medical records and imaging studies of patients, with nonspecific and specific discitis by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Pott disease), who underwent treatment at the Spine Group, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology in the period from 1989 to August 2009. RESULTS: we analyzed 48 medical records and image files of patients with Tbc's discitis and 31 patients with non-specific discitis. Of the patients with Pott disease, 54% were male, and the age ranged from 3 to 87 with a mean of 44.1 years. In patients with non-specific discitis, 68% were male, and the age ranged from 2 months to 76 years. The predominant radiographic pattern on tuberculosis discitis was the wedging of the anterior vertebral body in 88.2% of the cases. In patients with non-specific discitis, decreased disc space was the most prevalent finding, found in 87% of the cases. CONCLUSION: Tbc's discitis has presented more structural changes in the spine, such as kyphosis, and paravertebral reaction in relation to non-specific discitis. Led to fewer and not as severe vertebral abnormalities generally progressed well with only conservative treatment. While the prevalence of non-specific infection was higher in pediatric patients, Tbc's discitis was more prevalent with the increase of the age of patients.

The aim of this preclinical study was to evaluate the characteristics of the monoclonal antibody Rebmab200, which is a humanized version of the ovarian-specific murine antibody MX35. This investigation contributes to the foundation for future clinical α-radioimmunotherapy of minimal residual ovarian cancer with 211At-Rebmab200. Here, the biodistribution of 211At-Rebmab200 was evaluated, as was the utility of 99mTc-Rebmab200 for bioimaging. Rebmab200 was directly compared with its murine counterpart MX35 in terms of its in-vitro capacity for binding the immobilized NaPi2B epitope and live cells; we also assessed its biodistribution in nude mice carrying subcutaneous OVCAR-3 tumors. Tumor antigen and cell binding were similar between Rebmab200 and murine MX35, as was biodistribution, including normal tissue uptake and in-vivo tumor binding. We also demonstrated that 99mTc-Rebmab200 can be used for single-photon emission computed tomography of subcutaneous ovarian carcinomas in tumor-bearing mice. Taken together, our data support the further development of Rebmab200 for radioimmunotherapy and diagnostics.

NaPi2b, a sodium-dependent phosphate transporter, is highly expressed in ovarian carcinomas and is recognized by the murine monoclonal antibody MX35. The antibody had shown excellent targeting to ovarian cancer in several early phase clinical trials but being murine the antibody's full therapeutic potential could not be explored. To overcome this impediment we developed a humanized antibody version named Rebmab200, expressed in human PER.C6® cells and cloned by limiting dilution. In order to select a clone with high therapeutic potential clones were characterized using a series of physicochemical assays, flow cytometry, real-time surface plasmon resonance, glycosylation analyses, immunohistochemistry, antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, complement-dependent-cytotoxicity assays and quantitative PCR. Comparative analyses of Rebmab200 and MX35 monoclonal antibodies demonstrated that the two antibodies had similar specificity for NaPi2b by flow cytometry with a panel of 30 cell lines and maintained similar kinetic parameters. Robust and high producer cell clones potentially suitable for use in manufacturing were obtained. Rebmab200 antibodies were assessed by immunohistochemistry using a large panel of tissues including human carcinomas of ovarian, lung, kidney and breast origin. An assessment of its binding towards 33 normal human organs was performed as well. Rebmab200 showed selected strong reactivity with the tested tumor types but little or no reactivity with the normal tissues tested confirming its potential for targeted therapeutics strategies. The remarkable cytotoxicity shown by Rebmab200 in OVCAR-3 cells is a significant addition to the traits of stability and productivity displayed by the top clones of Rebmab200. Antibody-dependent cell-mediated toxicity functionality was confirmed in repeated assays using cancer cell lines derived from ovary, kidney and lung as targets. To explore use of this antibody in clinical trials, GMP production of Rebmab200 has been initiated. As the next step of development, Phase I clinical trials are now planned for translation of Rebmab200 into the clinic.
