The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation treatment (PEO, sometimes also called MAO, Micro Arc Oxidation) has recently attracted great attention due to its capability to create a thick and adherent coating with excellent corrosion and wear resistance. Some of the main characteristics of PEO coatings are the high porosity of the outer layer and the possibility to incorporate directly into the coating particles that are dispersed into the electrolyte. This work will describe the results obtained by inserting metallic and non-metallic particles in PEO coatings produced on magnesium and aluminum alloys. In particular, nano-particles of graphite have been inserted in order to improve the wear resistance and metal particles (copper or silver) in order to give to the samples bactericidal, fungicidal or antifouling properties.

To withstand oxidation at a temperature >= 850 °C, an optimized Ti1-xAlxN coating was grown via reactive High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) technology on three identical Ti0.48Al0.48Cr0.02Nb0.02 billets. Different substrate surface pre-treatments were designed to increase performance: i) mechanical polishing, ii) mechanical polishing combined with a strong plasma etching, and iii) mechanical polishing coupled to both a weak plasma etching and a Ti1-yAly metallic interlayer deposition. Then, all the specimens were cyclically heat treated up to 200 cycles at 950 °C, using a Burner Rig (BR) facility. The chosen Ti1-xAlxN/substrate interface architecture considerably influenced average compressive residual stress (Sres) and adhesion of just deposited films. Moreover, it was possible to identify a clear relationship between Sres behavior and each coating comportment after BR tests. It became clear that the weak plasma etching/Ti1-yAly interlayer match helped improving the system stability (i.e. very low average residual stress thermal relaxation) thus guarantying high temperature oxidation resistance.[object Object]

36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1247-1251, Photovoltaic (PV) technology is one of the most rising technologies for improving energy security and mitigating climate change. The PV market is growing rapidly, and further market expansion is expected all over the world. In Europe, from 2020 on, an increasing amount of End of Life (EoL) Photovoltaic Panels will accumulate. This will represent a new type of waste which will show opportunities and challenges. Nowadays, this type of waste is addressed mostly to landfill, even though it contains valuable raw materials. ReSiELP is an EIT KIC Raw Material project, funded by the EIT, striving to recover valuable materials contained in the PV modules. EoL PV panels waste will be treated by a pilot plant implemented during the project lifetime. The first results obtained by the plant showed that the materials can be recovered with high efficiency on industrial scale. Treatment of the wastewaters at lab-scale has been studied in order to reduce waste and recover valuable-resources in a circular economy perspective. All the recovered materials will be reinjected in their appropriate value chain. Recovered glass is mechanically processed and sieved in different sizes to be re-used in building materials production and promising results have been obtained.

This paper is focused on the study of the effect of high heating rates on austenite formation of 18NiCrMo5 steel. The prior martensitic microstructure was characterized with scanning electron microscopy and Vicker micro-hardness. Then dilatometric tests were performed at 12 different heating rates (in the range of 100 - 3000°C/s), to evaluate the critical points and the key factor governing the austenite formation with high heating rates. After these tests, the microstructures obtained were analyzed by optical microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The Ac1 and Ac3 temperatures initially increased with heating rate, reaching a maximum and then decrased. The formation of austenite from martensite, with low heating rates, was diffusive, whereas with high heating rates, it took place through a displacive mechanism. Moreover, a higher dislocation density characterized the austenite obtained with high heating rates.

В работе изучено влияние температуры на рост хрупких трещин и, соответственно, на изменение механических свойств стали марки 20Mn4. На термомеханической моделирующей установке Gleeble 3800™ проведены испытания на одноосное растяжение в диапазоне температур от 1000 до 1280°C. Термические обработки при разных температурах и времени выдержки осуществлялись в трубчатой печи. После проведенных испытаний на растяжение и термических обработок образцы были проанализированы при помощи растровой электронной микроскопии для оценки влияния эволюции микроструктуры на протекание горячеломкости. Явление горячеломкости в основном обусловливает скопление меди на поверхности раздела металл-окалина: в характерном диапазоне температуры жидкая фаза, обогащенная медью, проникает по всем границам зерен, способствуя образованию трещин и проявлению горячеломкости.

In this study, the influence of treatments carried out with an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) on the passive oxide films of different types of stainless steels and their corrosion properties was studied. The treatments were realized on a martensitic (AIS1420) and a duplex (SAF2507) stainless steel using a plasma generated by air at 1.5 bar. The corrosion resistance of the samples was analyzed with potentiodynamic anodic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests in environments containing sulphates and/or chlorides. The effects of the treatment on the oxide layer were studied using secondary ion mass spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The plasma treatments allowed the growth of the passive film and improved the corrosion resistance of the stainless steels.

Il fenomeno “HOT-SHORTNESS” affligge principalmente gli acciai prodotti con forno ad arco elettricoed è causato dal residuo di rame presente nel rottame impiegato per la produzione.Esso, infatti, è responsabile della formazione di cricche superficiali durante le lavorazioni di forgiatura elaminazione a caldo. Scopo del presente lavoro è indagare il comportamento del rame in un acciaio 20Mn4contenente il 0.33% di Cu, sottoponendo il materiale a cicli di trattamenti termici. Sono stati indagatiparametri quali temperatura e tempo di mantenimento, al fine di ottimizzare il processo, ridurre la formazionedi agglomerati di Cu in posizione intergranulare, e ottenere così le condizioni di processo utilialla diminuzione della difettosità superficiale dell’acciaio trattato. Sono perciò stati eseguiti sul materialediversi trattamenti termici in atmosfera, nel campo di lavorabilità a caldo dell’acciaio, variando duratadel trattamento e temperatura di mantenimento. A conclusione del lavoro sono state individuate le condizionidi trattamento idonee all’ottenimento di un acciaio con ridotta difettosità superficiale, escludendo l’interventosulla composizione chimica del materiale e dell’atmosfera impiegata nel forno.

Lo scopo di questo lavoro è quello di sviluppare un processo per incrementare la durezza superficialedelle leghe di alluminio 2024 e 7075 mediante trattamenti di diffusione di rame, depositato elettroliticamentesulla superficie. I trattamenti diffusivi sono stati effettuati in forno in atmosfera inerte a temperaturecomprese nell’intervallo 470-500 °C per un tempo massimo di 24 h, seguiti da trattamenti di solubilizzazionee invecchiamento. I campioni sono stati caratterizzati mediante analisi al microscopio ottico (OM),microscopia elettronica a scansione (SEM), diffrazione a raggi X (XRD) e misure di microdurezza Vickers.La lega 2024, in seguito ai trattamenti di diffusione del rame condotti a temperature prossime ai 495 °C,raggiunge una durezza superficiale di 500 HV0,1, contro 80 HV0,1 del cuore del campione.Ciò è dovuto alla formazione dell’intermetallico Al2Cu. Il trattamento di invecchiamento non influenzalo spessore di diffusione che rimane di circa 50 ?m, bensì modifica la durezza in maniera diversa a secondache l’invecchiamento sia naturale o artificiale. I trattamenti di diffusione condotti sulla lega 7075 atemperature prossime a 500 °C provocano la diffusione del rame fino ad una profondità di 600 ?m e causanouna parziale fusione degli intermetallici superficiali, non permettendo di ottenere un aumento significativodella durezza superficiale. Abbassando la temperatura del trattamento diffusivo (470 °C), la zona interessatadalla diffusione del rame è di circa 100 ?m con una durezza di 860 HV0,1, dovuta alla formazione diintermetallici Al-Cu e Zn-Cu. Anche in questo caso, il successivo invecchiamento artificiale non varia lospessore di diffusione, ma porta ad una diminuzione della durezza superficiale a valori attorno a 500 HV0,1.

Nel presente lavoro è stata trattata la produzione di nanopolveri metalliche con il metodo sonoelettrochimicoa pulsione, ottimizzato presso l’Università di Padova. Sono state sintetizzate particelle nanometriche di legaFeCo e FeCr a diverse temperature del bagno elettrolitico, allo scopo di studiare e determinare l’influenza dellatemperatura di sintesi sull’efficienza di processo e sulle caratteristiche chimico-fisiche delle polveri ottenute.Il materiale prodotto è stato caratterizzato tramite X-EDS per determinarne la composizione chimica,diffrazione di raggi X per studiarne la struttura cristallina e calcolare la dimensione media delle particelle,microscopia elettronica per un’indagine morfologica.

In questo lavoro sono stati ottenuti rivestimenti di Ni elettrolitico e NiB electroless su campioni di titanio puro e sulla lega Ti-6Al-4V. Questi campioni dopo la deposizione sono stati sottoposti a trattamenti termici di diffusione a temperature inferiori e superiori alla temperatura di trasformazione allotropica del titanio e della lega per la durata di 1 h. E’ stato quindi analizzato l’effetto della temperatura sulla diffusione del Ni e del B all’interno del substrato e sulla profondità di indurimento dei campioni mediante analisi al SEM, EDS, XRD, GDOS e prove di microdurezza. Dopo il trattamento di 1h a temperatura superiore alla temperatura ?-transus (1000° C) nel campione di titanio CP si ha la formazione di uno strato di intermetallici NiTi e NiTi2 per uno spessore 20 ?m con valori di durezza di 1000 HV0,1 ed una zona di diffusione di 300-400 ?m con valori di durezza di 300 HV0,1. Per quanto riguarda la lega Ti6Al4V i trattamenti termici al di sopra della ? transus permettono di raggiungere durezze 1000 HV0,1, dovute alla formazione degli intermetallici NiTi e NiTi2 . I migliori risultati, ottenuti, sia per il titanio puro che per la lega, con il trattamento termico effettuato a temperatura superiore alla ? transus, sono da attribuirsi alla maggiore velocità di diffusione indotta sia dalla temperatura che dalla struttura ccc che il titanio assume a temperature superiori alla ? transus.
