Condensed Matter - Mesoscale and Nanoscale Physics - Abstract
We have investigated the energy loss of hot electrons in metallic graphene by means of GHz noise thermometry at liquid helium temperature. We observe the electronic temperature T / V at low bias in agreement with the heat diffusion to the leads described by the Wiedemann-Franz law. We report on $T\propto\sqrt{V}$ behavior at high bias, which corresponds to a T4 dependence of the cooling power. This is the signature of a 2D acoustic phonon cooling mechanism. From a heat equation analysis of the two regimes we extract accurate values of the electron-acoustic phonon coupling constant $\Sigma$ in monolayer graphene. Our measurements point to an important effect of lattice disorder in the reduction of $\Sigma$, not yet considered by theory. Moreover, our study provides a strong and firm support to the rising field of graphene bolometric detectors., Comment: 5 figures

Condensed Matter - Mesoscale and Nanoscale Physics - Abstract
We investigate the fabrication of electrical contacts using ion- and electron-beam induced deposition of platinum at the sub-\mu m scale. Halos associated with the metal surface decoration are characterized electrically in the 0.05-2 \mu m range using transport measurements, conducting atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe microscopy. In contrast with IBID, EBID electrodes exhibit weakly conductive halos at the sub-\mu m scale, and can thus be used to achieve resist-free electrical contacts for transport measurements at the sub-\mu m scale. Four-point transport measurements using \mu m-spaced EBID contacts are provided in the case of a multiwalled carbon nanotube.

ImportanceThe longer-term effects of therapies for the treatment of critically ill patients with COVID-19 are unknown.ObjectiveTo determine the effect of multiple interventions for critically ill adults with COVID-19 on longer-term outcomes.Design, Setting, and ParticipantsPrespecified secondary analysis of an ongoing adaptive platform trial (REMAP-CAP) testing interventions within multiple therapeutic domains in which 4869 critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 were enrolled between March 9, 2020, and June 22, 2021, from 197 sites in 14 countries. The final 180-day follow-up was completed on March 2, 2022.InterventionsPatients were randomized to receive 1 or more interventions within 6 treatment domains: immune modulators (n = 2274), convalescent plasma (n = 2011), antiplatelet therapy (n = 1557), anticoagulation (n = 1033), antivirals (n = 726), and corticosteroids (n = 401).Main Outcomes and MeasuresThe main outcome was survival through day 180, analyzed using a bayesian piecewise exponential model. A hazard ratio (HR) less than 1 represented improved survival (superiority), while an HR greater than 1 represented worsened survival (harm); futility was represented by a relative improvement less than 20% in outcome, shown by an HR greater than 0.83.ResultsAmong 4869 randomized patients (mean age, 59.3 years; 1537 [32.1%] women), 4107 (84.3%) had known vital status and 2590 (63.1%) were alive at day 180. IL-6 receptor antagonists had a greater than 99.9% probability of improving 6-month survival (adjusted HR, 0.74 [95% credible interval {CrI}, 0.61-0.90]) and antiplatelet agents had a 95% probability of improving 6-month survival (adjusted HR, 0.85 [95% CrI, 0.71-1.03]) compared with the control, while the probability of trial-defined statistical futility (HR >0.83) was high for therapeutic anticoagulation (99.9%; HR, 1.13 [95% CrI, 0.93-1.42]), convalescent plasma (99.2%; HR, 0.99 [95% CrI, 0.86-1.14]), and lopinavir-ritonavir (96.6%; HR, 1.06 [95% CrI, 0.82-1.38]) and the probabilities of harm from hydroxychloroquine (96.9%; HR, 1.51 [95% CrI, 0.98-2.29]) and the combination of lopinavir-ritonavir and hydroxychloroquine (96.8%; HR, 1.61 [95% CrI, 0.97-2.67]) were high. The corticosteroid domain was stopped early prior to reaching a predefined statistical trigger; there was a 57.1% to 61.6% probability of improving 6-month survival across varying hydrocortisone dosing strategies. Conclusions and RelevanceAmong critically ill patients with COVID-19 randomized to receive 1 or more therapeutic interventions, treatment with an IL-6 receptor antagonist had a greater than 99.9% probability of improved 180-day mortality compared with patients randomized to the control, and treatment with an antiplatelet had a 95.0% probability of improved 180-day mortality compared with patients randomized to the control. Overall, when considered with previously reported short-term results, the findings indicate that initial in-hospital treatment effects were consistent for most therapies through 6 months.

Sorghum -- Genetic aspects ,Sorghum -- Varieties ,Phylogeny -- Research ,Agricultural geography -- Research ,Biological diversity -- Genetic aspects ,Biological sciences - Abstract
Sorghum has shown the adaptability necessary to sustain its improvement during time and geographical extension despite a genetic foundation constricted by domestication bottlenecks. Initially domesticated in the northeastern part of sub-Saharan Africa several millenia ago, sorghum quickly spread throughout Africa, and to Asia. We performed phylogeographic analysis of sequence diversity for six candidate genes for grain quality (Shrunken2, Brittle2, Soluble starch synthaseI, Waxy, Amylose extender1, and Opaque2) in a representative sample of sorghum cultivars. Haplotypes along 1-kb segments appeared little affected by recombination. Sequence similarity enabled clustering of closely related alleles and discrimination of two or three distantly related groups depending on the gene. This scheme indicated that sorghum domestication involved structured founder populations, while confirming a specific status for the guinea margaritiferum subrace. Allele rooted genealogy revealed derivation relationships by mutation or, less frequently, by recombination. Comparison of germplasm compartments revealed contrasts between genes. Sh2, Bt2, and SssI displayed a loss of diversity outside the area of origin of sorghum, whereas O2 and, to some extent, Wx and Ae1 displayed novel variation, derived from postdomestication mutations. These are likely to have been conserved under the effect of human selection, thus releasing valuable neodiversity whose extent will influence germplasm management strategies.

[CHIM.MATE]Chemical Sciences/Material chemistry - Abstract
International audience; Monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides are very appealing for electronics, optoelectronics and photo/electro-catalysis. Despite the rapid progresses of synthesis methods, device performances remain very sensitive to defects and inhomogeneities (edges, second-layer islands, grain boundaries). Global characterization techniques such as mobility measurements in FETs or catalytic activity measurements by voltammetry cannot assess the impact of inhomogeneities. Local techniques (spectroscopy mapping, scanning probes...) are thus particularly important in the field of 2D materials. In the group, we synthesize TMDCs monolayers by CVD and integrate them in devices, notably FETs with thin and robust molecular layers as efficient gate-dielectrics able to preserve mobility. In this presentation, I will first present our device-oriented motivations, our synthesis results and their characterization by conventional means. I will then present the development of other local techniques with the aim of illustrating their specific assets for the field of 2D materials. The BALM technique (backside absorbing layer microscopy), first developed as a high-contrast imaging technique, can be used to measure the complex refractive index of TMDCs or to detect surface contamination on monolayers with high sensitivity. Single-pass KPFM (kelvin-probe force microscopy) can map surface potential with high accuracy, and in particular monitor charge accumulation at grain boundaries. We notably use it on operating FETs. SECM (scanning electro-chemical microscopy), usually used to map electrochemical activity, can also be turned into a new contact-less method to measure 2D material conductivity and flake-flake contact resistance.

National audience; Fine lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia) are emblematic species ofFrance and of great economic interest. Thanks to the cost reduction of sequencing technologies and tothe development of suitable bioinformatics tools, Iteipmai, with the help of its partners (INRAE,CRIEPPAM and CNPMAI), was able to set up a project to develop molecular tools on lavender andlavandin, in order to improve the efficiency of breeding programs. Thus, the GenoParfum project wasset up to create the genomic resources necessary for the development of these new strategies usingnext-generation sequencing technologies. This general objective is declined in three axes: (i) to develop a catalog of reference lavender genes, (ii)to identify SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) polymorphism for lavender and lavandin and (iii) totest the validity of this polymorphism within the scope of an analysis of genetic diversity (clonal varietiesand natural populations of lavender). This article presents the work carried out in axis 3 (the results fromaxes 1 and 2 are presented in an associated article (Fopa Fomeju et al., 2018)).A pooled sequencing approach was used to study SNP-type polymorphism in 21 natural populationsfrom 6 geographic regions of southeastern France and northwestern Italy. These populations werecollected at altitudes ranging from 200 meters to 1500 meters. To these populations, 3 populationvarieties selected by Iteipmai (Rapido, Carla and Saralia) were added. The results indicated that genetic diversity was structured according to the geographical origin of thepopulations and not according to their altitude. The rate of polymorphism in improved populations wassimilar to that observed in natural populations. This approach also made it possible to highlight therelevance of molecular tools for the management of genetic resources. The results will be used to build a core collection to initiate association genetics studies and to identifymarkers associated with agronomic traits of interest to lavender.; La lavande fine (Lavandula angustifolia) et le lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia) sont des espècesemblématiques de la France et présentent un fort intérêt économique.

Coda-Q is used to estimate the attenuation and scattering properties of the Earth. So far focus has been on earthquake data at frequencies above 1 Hz, as the high noise level in the first and second microseismic peak, and possibly lower scattering coefficient, hinder stable measurements at lower frequencies. In this work, we measure and map coda-Q in the period bands 2.5-5 s, 5-10 s and 10-20 s in the greater Alpine region using noise cross-correlations between station pairs, based on data from permanent seismic stations and from the temporary AlpArray experiment. The observed coda-Q for short interstation distances is independent of azimuth so there is no indication of influence of the directivity of the incoming noise field on our measurements. In the 2.5-5 s and 5-10 s period bands, our measurements are self-consistent, and we observe stable geographic patterns of low and high coda-Q in the period bands 2.5-5 s and 5-10 s. In the period band 10-20 s, the dispersion of our measurements increases and geographic patterns become speculative. The coda-Q maps show that major features are observed with high resolution, with a very good geographical resolution of for example low coda-Q in the Po Plain. There is a sharp contrast between the Po Plain and the Alps and Apennines where coda-Q is high, with the exception a small area in the Swiss Alps which may be contaminated by the low coda-Q of the Po Plain. The coda of the correlations is too short to make independent measurements at different times within the coda, so we cannot distinguish between intrinsic and scattering Q. Measurements on more severely selected data sets and longer time-series result in identical geographical patterns but lower numerical values. Therefore, high coda-Q values may be overestimated, but the geographic distribution between high and low coda-Q areas is respected. Our results demonstrate that noise correlations are a promising tool for extending coda-Q measurements to frequencies lower than those analysed with earthquake data.

The comparison of capacitance-voltage and current-voltage characteristics of template MOS-Cap structures featuring pure Si[O.sub.2] or high-[kappa] gate dielectrics is presented. The discrepancies in capacitance and leakage current are investigated by studying the individual modeling parameters and the internal quantities contributing to current and capacitance.
