The mechanisms of magma movement, chemical differentiation and physical development, are derived from the geochemistry of igneous rocks, and from studying exposures of deep magmatic systems that have since solidified and been uplifted and exposed at the Earth's surface. The Ferrar Magmatic System of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica provides an unparalleled example of a complete magmatic-volcanic system exposed in unprecedented detail. This book provides a unique and usual three-dimensional detailed examination of this system, providing insight into many magmatic processes normally unobservable, in particular how basaltic magma moves upwards through the crust, how it entrains, carries and deposits loads of crystals from great depths, and how this all contributes to Earth's evolution. Providing an explanation of how magmatic systems operate and how igneous rocks form, this is an invaluable resource ideal for researchers and graduate students in magma physics, igneous petrology, volcanology, and geochemistry.

Precision Manufacturing has significant applications in many advanced technology fields. The development of additive manufacturing (AM) technology leads to numerous possibilities in this area. However, quality control is important in applying precision AM lab research to ready-to-use technologies in industries. This paper reviewed the current precision AM technology and advancement of materials, and then examined the factors that affect the quality aspects of additive manufacturing products, a systematic approach of quality control in AM is proposed and each step in the system was discussed in achieving optimized quality of high precision AM products.

The goal for the ECHo experiment is the determination of the effective electron neutrino mass by analyzing the electron capture (EC) spectrum of $^{163}$Ho. Metallic magnetic calorimeters enclosing $^{163}$Ho, achieved very good performance to conduct such an experiment. During the first phase of the experiment, ECHo-1k, the detector production and the implantation process of high purity $^{163}$Ho have been optimized. Large detector arrays have been developed, featuring energy resolution below 5eV and activity of about 1Bq per pixel. High statistics and high resolution $^{163}$Ho spectra have been acquired and analyzed in light of new theoretical description of the spectral shape, considering the independently determined Q$_{\mathrm{EC}}$-value, and a dedicated background model. In this contribution, we present preliminary results obtained in the first phase of ECHo. At the same time, we discuss the necessary upgrades towards the second phase of the experiment, ECHo-100k.

International audience; The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative proposes to use partially stripped ion (PSI) beams as drivers of a new type of high-intensity and high-energy (0.1–400 MeV) photon source. As part of the ongoing Physics Beyond Collider studies, initial beam tests were carried out in 2017 and 2018 at the SPS and LHC with partially stripped xenon and lead beams. This contribution discusses the results of these tests and the preparations for the next GF R&D step: the proof-of-principle experiment at the SPS to study interaction of PSI beams with the laser light

This paper aims to describe a multi-modal, humanities-based set of workshops designed to improve nursing students’ critical thinking skills, perspective taking, and appreciation of the humanities. This workshop expands the Visual Thinking Strategies curriculum to a multi-modal, arts-based program. Twenty-two nursing students participated in four, three-hour arts-based workshops. Program reactions were qualitatively analyzed. Following completion of the course, participants reported an appreciation for the multi-modal arts-based program and recognized ways in which it might influence their performance on the job. The curriculum was perceived as beneficial by nursing students, with themes of metacognition and awareness/appreciation of others being particularly salient.

A retrospective review of 30 patients with eso/exodeviations less than 20 prism diopters (PD) who underwent one injection of BPX into their medial/lateral rectus was carried out. Preoperative deviations were recorded in PD, using the alternate prism cover test. Postoperative angles at 1 and 3 months were measured in the same manner. 11 out of 30 patients achieved an acceptable outcome and required no further intervention. The mean angle of deviation for near in all patients reduced significantly by 3.1 PD and 2.1 PD at 1 and 3 months. The mean angle of deviation for distance in all patients also decreased significantly by 2.3 PD and 1.9 PD at 1 and 3 months. In conclusion, single injection of BPX in a heterogeneous group of patients with horizontal strabismus caused a mild improvement and a qualitative success rate of 37%.
