This paper presents an advanced 3D numerical methodology to reproduce the kinematics of slow active landslides, more precisely, to reproduce the nearly constant strain rate (secondary creep) and the acceleration/deceleration of the moving mass due to hydrological changes. For this purpose, finite element analyses are performed in a large area covering a long time-span (12 years), in order to exhibit different interacting slope movements. First, we perform a stability analysis using the shear strength reduction (SSR) technique with a Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria. It is done in order to compute factors of safety (FS) and to identify two different scenarios, the first one being stable (FS > 1) and the second one being unstable (FS < 1). In the studied test case, the Portalet landslide (Central Spanish Pyrenees), the first scenario corresponds to an initial stable configuration of the slope and the second one to an unstable excavated configuration. Second, taking the first scenario as an initial condition, a time-dependent analysis is performed using a coupled formulation to model solid skeleton and pore fluids interaction, and a simplified ground water model that takes into account daily rainfall intensity. In this case, a viscoplastic constitutive model based on Perzyna’s theory is applied to reproduce soil viscous behavior and the delayed creep deformation due to the excavation. The fluidity parameter is calibrated to reproduce displacements measured by the monitoring systems. Our results demonstrate that 3D analyses are preferable to 2D ones for reproducing in a more realistic way the slide behavior. After calibration, the proposed model is able to simulate successfully short- and medium-term predictions during stages of primary and secondary creep. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, satellite radar data are analysed to control the deformation of the buildings of Murcia City (SE Spain) affected by subsidence. This phenomenon has occurred as a result of groundwater overexploitation in drought periods, and special attention is paid to the most recent drought which occurred between 2005 and 2008. In the first part of this work, the study area is presented followed by a description of the characteristics and effects of subsidence on the buildings of the urban area. Persistent scatterer interferometry is used to process a satellite base radar dataset measuring the temporal and the spatial evolution of subsidence. These results are analysed with respect to several factors that control subsidence mechanisms: water table decrease, thickness of the compressible layer and the type of foundation of the buildings. To validate these results, a detailed structural damage analysis of several buildings is presented. According to the results presented in this work, it may be concluded that damage of buildings is triggered by soil consolidation due to groundwater overexploitation, demonstrating that the inclusion of this technique can be particularly interesting in structural monitoring framework of civil infrastructures, as a complementary tool to control subsidence damage. Background: Aframomum sp. is a genus of plants in the Zingiberaceae family. It includes several species, some of which are used in cosmetics for their various properties, making them useful in skincare products, particularly for anti-aging, moisturizing, and brightening the skin. However, to date, there is no experimental evidence on its natural extracts obtained or modified using microorganisms (bio-fermentation) as an anti-aging agent. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the antiaging effect of a Bio-fermented Aframomum angustifolium (BAA) extract on 3D bioprinted skin equivalent. Methods: The consortium of microorganisms contained Komagataeibacter, Gluconobacter, Acetobacter, Saccharomyces, Torulaspora, Brettanomyces, Hanseniaspora, Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, Schizosaccharomyces . It was developed on a media containing water, sugar, and infused black tea leaves. The seeds of Aframomum angustifolium previously grounded were mixed with the culture medium, and the ferments in growth; this fermentation step lasted 10 days. Then, the medium was collected and filtered (0.22 µm) to obtain the BAA extract. To enhance our comprehension of the impact of BAA extract on skin aging, we developed skin equivalents using bio-printing methods with the presence or absence of keratinocyte stem cells (KSC). These skin equivalents were derived from keratinocytes obtained from both a middle-aged donor, with and without KSC. Moreover, we examined the effects of treating the KSC-depleted skin equivalents with Bio-fermented Aframomum angustifolium (BAA) extract for 5 days. Skin equivalents containing KSC-depleted keratinocytes exhibited histological characteristics typical of aged skin and were compared to skin equivalents derived from young donors. Results: The BAA extract contained specific organic acids such as lactic, gluconic, succinic acid and polyphenols. KSC-depleted skin equivalents that were treated with BAA extract exhibited higher specular reflection, indicating better hydration of the stratum corneum, higher mitotic activity in the epidermis basal layer, improved dermal-epidermal connectivity, and increased rigidity of the dermal-epidermal junction compared to non-treated KSC-depleted equivalents. BAA extract treatments also resulted in changes at the dermis level, with an increase in total collagen and a decrease in global laxity, suggesting that this extract could help maintain youthful-looking skin. African swine fever virus is considered an emerging virus that causes African swine fever, a disease characterised by high mortality and elevated transmission rates and that, as it is for most other viral diseases, cannot be treated with specific drugs. Effective and reliable detection of the virus is relevant to prevent uncontrolled contagion among boar populations and to reduce economic losses. Moreover, animal health laboratories are demanding standardisation, optimisation and quality assurance of the available diagnostic assays. In the present study, the ASFV MONODOSE dtec-qPCR kit was validated following the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 guidelines. Analytical validation terms include in silico and in vitro specificity, sensitivity, efficiency and reliability (repeatability/reproducibility). Diagnostic validation of the method was assessed through the analysis of a total of 181 porcine samples originating from six different matrix types doped with African swine fever virus DNA received from the European reference laboratory for African Swine Fever (INIA-CISA, Madrid, Spain): whole blood, blood serum, kidney, heart, liver and tonsil. Results agreed with those obtained from a reference detection method also based on real-time PCR, endorsed by WOAH, but the ASFV MONODOSE dtec-qPCR kit incorporates some technical innovations and improvements which may benefit end-users. This kit, available worldwide with full analytical and diagnostic validation, can recognise all known ASFV genotypes and brings additional benefits to the current qPCR technology.

Human mpox is caused by the Monkeypox virus , a microorganism closely related to the Variola virus, both belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus. Mpox had been considered a rare disease until a global outbreak occurred in 2022. People infected with the virus present similar symptoms to patients suffering smallpox and other rash illnesses, hindering diagnosis. The WHO indicated that no commercial PCR or serology kits are currently widely available. In the present study, the MPXV MONODOSE dtec-qPCR kit was validated following guidelines of the UNE/EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The parameters evaluated for the acceptance of the assay were in silico and in vitro specificity, quantitative phase analysis, reliability, and sensitivity. The assay passed validation criteria and yielded an efficiency of 95.8%, high repeatability, reproducibility, and a Limit of Detection and Quantification of at least 10 copies. Results from the validation of the MPXV dtec-qPCR kit were satisfactory. The use of the MONODOSE format (dehydrated single PCR-tubes, ready to use) provided considerable advantages allowing the detection of the Monkeypox virus to be accurately achieved. Candida auris is a multidrug-resistant pathogenic ascomycete yeast of increasing health concern. C. auris colonizes patient's skin and can persist for weeks on surfaces, so it can be transmitted within and between hospitals. The most common diagnostic platforms in microbiology use reference databases that have not yet incorporated C. auris, misidentifying it. This chapter describes how to detect C. auris by qPCR with the GPS™ CanAur MONODOSE dtec-qPCR Test (Alicante, Spain) in less than 45 min, using ready-to-use tubes with all the components dehydrated. Exchange of boryl moieties between alkenylboranes and diboron reagents has been postulated as a stereospecific cross-metathesis pathway with concomitant formation of mixed diboron reagents. DFT calculations propose a mechanism for the stereocontrolled C(sp 2 )-B/B'-B' cross-metathesis with both symmetric and non-symmetric diboron reagents.

Background Context: Although autogenous iliac crest bone graft (AICBG) is considered the gold-standard graft material for spinal fusion, new bone substitutes are being developed to avoid associated complications and disadvantages. By combining autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) expanded ex vivo and allogenic cancellous bone graft, we obtain a tissue-engineered product that is osteoconductive and potentially more osteogenic and osteoinductive than AICBG, owing to the higher concentration of MSCs., Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of implanting a tissue-engineered product consisting of expanded bone marrow MSCs loaded onto allograft bone (MSC+allograft) for spinal fusion in degenerative spine disease, as well as to assess its clinical and radiological efficacy., Study Design/setting: A prospective, multicenter, open-label, blinded-reader, randomized, parallel, single-dose phase I-II clinical trial., Patient Sample: A total of 73 adult patients from 5 hospitals, with Meyerding grade I-II L4-L5 degenerative spondylolisthesis and/or with L4-L5 degenerative disc disease who underwent spinal fusion through transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF)., Outcome Measures: Spinal fusion was assessed by plain X-ray at 3, 6, and 12 months and by computed tomography (CT) at 6 and 12 months post-treatment. An independent radiologist performed blinded assessments of all images. Clinical outcomes were measured as change from baseline value: visual analog scale for lumbar and sciatic pain at 12 days, 3, 6, and 12 months posttreatment, and Oswestry Disability Index and Short Form-36 at 3, 6, and 12 months posttreatment., Methods: Patients who underwent L4-L5 TLIF were randomized for posterior graft type only, and received either MSC+allograft (the tissue-engineered product, group A) or AICBG (standard graft material, group B). Standard graft material was used for anterior fusion in all patients. Feasibility was measured primarily as the percentage of randomized patients who underwent surgery in each treatment group. Safety was assessed by analyzing treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs) for the full experimental phase and appraising their relationship to the experimental treatment. Outcome measures, both radiological and clinical, were compared between the groups., Results: Seventy-three patients were randomized in this study, 36 from the MSC+allograft group and 37 from the AICBG group, and 65 were surgically treated (31 group A, 34 group B). Demographic and comorbidity data showed no difference between groups. Most patients were diagnosed with grade I or II degenerative spondylolisthesis. MSC+allograft was successfully implanted in 86.1% of randomized group A patients. Most patients suffered treatment-emergent AEs during the study (88.2% in group A and 97.1% in group B), none related to the experimental treatment. X-ray-based rates of posterior spinal fusion were significantly higher for the experimental group at 6 months (p=.012) and 12 months (p=.0003). CT-based posterior fusion rates were significantly higher for MSC+allograft at 6 months (92.3% vs 45.7%; p=.0001) and higher, but not significantly, at 12 months (76.5% vs 65.7%; p=.073). CT-based complete response (defined as the presence of both posterior intertransverse fusion and anterior interbody fusion) was significantly higher at 6 months for MSC+allograft than for AICBG (70.6% vs 40%; p=.0038), and remained so at 12 months (70.6% vs 51.4%; p=.023). Clinical results including patient-reported outcomes improved postsurgery, although there were no differences between groups., Conclusions: Compared with the current gold standard, our experimental treatment achieved a higher rate of posterior spinal fusion and radiographic complete response to treatment at 6 and 12 months after surgery. The treatment clearly improved patient quality of life and decreased pain and disability at rates similar to those for the control arm. The safety profile of the tissue-engineered product was also similar to that for the standard material, and no AEs were linked to the product. Procedural AEs did not increase as a result of BM aspiration. The use of expanded bone marrow MSCs combined with cancellous allograft is a feasible and effective technique for spinal fusion, with no product-related AEs found in our study., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Inc. Candida auris is an emerging multidrug resistant pathogenic fungus that causes candidaemia with high mortality rates and exhibits the ability to persist within the hospital environment. Candida auris is phylogenetically closely related to Candida haemulonii, C. lusitaniae, C. pseudohaemulonii and C. duobushaemulonii and is frequently misidentified by commercial identification methods. In the present study, the GPS ™ MONODOSE dtec-qPCR kit (dried single-dose PCR tubes) for the detection of C. auris was validated following the guidelines of the UNE/EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, the French Standard NF T90-471:2010 and using fast-cycling protocols. Validation terms included in vitro specificity (inclusivity/exclusivity), quantitative phase analysis (10-10 6  standard DNA copies), reliability (repeatability/reproducibility) and sensitivity (detection/quantification limits). GPS ™ dtec-qPCR kits passed validation with strict acceptance criteria (n ≥ 10 repetitions). In silico specificity was proven by the designer (GPS ™ ). Experimental inclusiveness was achieved in two independent laboratories by testing strain JCM15448 T and 117 clinical C. auris isolates from Asia, the Middle-East Africa, Latin America and Europe. Exclusiveness was evaluated with 25 strains of closely related Candida spp. Use of the MONODOSE format provided considerable advantages allowing the detection of C. auris to be accurately achieved in less than an hour. Land subsidence associated with overexploitation of aquifers is a hazard that commonly affects large areas worldwide. The Lorca area, located in southeast Spain, has undergone one of the highest subsidence rates in Europe as a direct consequence of long-term aquifer exploitation. Previous studies carried out on the region assumed that the ground deformation retrieved from satellite radar interferometry corresponds only to vertical displacement. Here we report, for the first time, the two- and three-dimensional displacement field over the study area using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from Sentinel-1A images and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observations. By modeling this displacement, we provide new insights on the spatial and temporal evolution of the subsidence processes and on the main governing mechanisms. Additionally, we also demonstrate the importance of knowing both the vertical and horizontal components of the displacement to properly characterize similar hazards. Based on these results, we propose some general guidelines for the sustainable management and monitoring of land subsidence related to anthropogenic activities.

Programs that assist parents and children with coping during hospitalization may minimize the emotional trauma of hospitalization and improve both child and family well-being. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of parental visitation in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on pre- and postoperative anxiety levels of pediatric patients and parents. Sixty-eight patient-parent pairs were enrolled in the study: 20 before implementing parental visitation and 48 following implementation. Although no differences were found in children's anxiety levels pre- to postoperatively, the anxiety levels of parents who visited their children in the PACU were significantly lower postoperatively.

In 1988, the Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses published its first Scope of Practice Statement. At that time the Standards of Practice were revised in the process outcome format. Six standards refer to direct care of the child and family and a final standard refers to the nurse's professional responsibility to maintain expertise as a specialist or competency as a generalist. The development of these two documents and how they are used by the practitioner and the educator is discussed.

Documentation and the use of nursing diagnosis have proved to be important in increasing the efficiency of communication and the clarification of nursing services provided. This has led to better utilization of nursing resources. The increased emphasis on ambulatory care has shifted our focus to nurses' roles in clinic and day hospital settings. How do nurses document the care they provide in an ambulatory setting? Can nursing diagnosis be used as effectively in the outpatient department as it has been in the acute or chronic inpatient hospital setting? This article describes how one agency developed a unique documentation tool for ambulatory care which allows for and encourages the use of nursing diagnosis by staff nurses, IV nurses and nurses in expanded roles, and facilitates communication among all nursing personnel.
