BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is commonly associated with alcohol and substance use disorders (ASUD). A randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial demonstrated the safety and efficacy of MDMA-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) for the treatment of severe PTSD. This analysis explores patterns of alcohol and substance use in patients receiving MDMA-AT compared to placebo plus therapy (Placebo+Therapy). METHODS: Adult participants with severe PTSD (n = 90) were randomized to three blinded trauma-focused therapy sessions with either MDMA-AT or Placebo+Therapy. Eligible participants met DSM-5 criteria for severe PTSD and could meet criteria for mild (current) or moderate (early remission) alcohol or cannabis use disorder; other SUDs were excluded. The current analyses examined outcomes on standardized measures of hazardous alcohol (i.e., Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test; AUDIT) and drug (i.e., Drug Use Disorder Identification Test; DUDIT) use at baseline prior to randomization and at study termination. RESULTS: There were no treatment group differences in AUDIT or DUDIT scores at baseline. Compared to Placebo+therapy, MDMA-AT was associated with a significantly greater reduction in mean (SD) AUDIT change scores (Δ = -1.02 (3.52) as compared to placebo (Δ = 0.40 (2.70), F (80, 1) = 4.20, p = 0.0436; Hedges g= .45). Changes in DUDIT scores were not significantly different between treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS: MDMA-AT for severe PTSD may also lead to subclinical improvements in alcohol use. MDMA-AT does not appear to increase risk of illicit drug use. These data provide preliminary evidence to support the development of MDMA-AT as an integrated treatment for co-occurring PTSD and ASUD.

Information Security has been a challenge since humans began keeping information. With the advent of computerized data and computer networks, that challenge has increased dramatically. Not only are more breaches occurring, but public knowledge about those breaches is now commonplace adding to virtual hysteria concerning data and information security. To combat the challenge, many organizations are turning to trained and experienced security specialists. Educational institutions are adding curriculum to support the training and education of security professionals. To ensure quality education, many institutions are relying on security certified instructors. One certification highly sought after is the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). The educational benefits of CISSP led courses is quite obvious. What is not as obvious is the contribution of the CISSPs to the academic body of knowledge. This paper is an attempt to summarize the current contribution of the CISSP to the academic body of knowledge and open a dialog about the expectations of CISSP to higher educational research.

A phase 1b study was conducted to evaluate the safety and feasibility of ciprofloxacin and etoposide combination treatment in subjects with relapsed and refractory acute myeloid leukemia. Eleven subjects were enrolled in the study. Utilizing the standard '3 + 3' design, escalating ciprofloxacin doses (750 mg, 1000 mg) twice daily on D1-D10 in combination with a fixed dose (200 mg) of etoposide on D2-D8 were administered. Maximum tolerated dose was determined to be 1000 mg of ciprofloxacin in combination with 200 mg of etoposide. Serious adverse events occurred in 54.5% (n = 6) subjects and 91% (n = 10) subjects reported ≥ grade 3 toxicities. Nine subjects completed treatment, one had a dose-limiting toxicity, and one withdrew. One subject achieved complete remission with a duration of 111 days and one subject achieved morphologic leukemia-free state after cycle 1. While the combination demonstrated safety and an acceptable toxicity profile, only modest hematologic and clinical benefits were observed. This trial was registered at as #NCT02773732. As electronic books (e-books) have continued to gain in popularity, more and more books are becoming available in electronic format. Textbooks are no exception. More and more publishers are making textbooks available in electronic format (e-textbooks). There have been many devices specifically designed to use e-books and e-textbooks with many more devices which utilize e-book apps to further increase the availability and ease of moving to e-books. Many professors are embracing the new technology, but others are somewhat (very, in many cases) resistant. This study discusses a recent study of professor acceptance and intention to use e-textbooks in the classroom and presents preliminary results and conclusions suggested by the survey. Migrating adult Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.) are sensitive to warm water (>18[degrees]C), with a range of consequences from decreased spawning success to early mortality. We examined the proportion of Yukon River Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) exhibiting evidence of heat stress to assess the potential that high temperatures contribute to freshwater adult mortality in a northern Pacific salmon population. Water temperatures greater than 18[degrees]C have occurred almost annually in the Yukon River and correspond with low population abundance since the 1990s. Using gene transcription products and heat shock protein 70 biomarkers validated by field experiment, we identified heat stress in half of Chinook salmon examined (54%, n = 477) across three mainstem locations and three tributaries in 2016-2017. Biomarkers tracked wide variation in water temperature (14-23[degrees]C) within a tributary. The proportion of salmon with heat stress differed between years at four of the six locations, with more prevalent heat stress in the warmer year. This work demonstrates that warming water temperatures are currently affecting northern populations of Pacific salmon. Des temperatures de l'eau superieures a 18[degrees]C se sont produites presque chaque annee dans le fleuve Yukon et correspondent a de faibles abondances de la population depuis les annees 1990. En utilisant des biomarqueurs de produits de transcription genique et de la proteine de choc thermique 70 valides par une experience de terrain, nous avons releve un stress thermique chez la moitie des saumons chinooks examines (54 %, n = 477) dans trois sites du cours principal et dans trois affluents, en 2016-2017. Les biomarqueurs temoignent de grandes variations de la temperature de l'eau (14-23[degrees]C) au sein d'un affluent. While conservation and fisheries management are often concerned with changes in population abundance and distribution, shifts in population age-size structure are commonly observed in response to human and environmental stressors. Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) have experienced widespread declines in mean age and size throughout their North American range. We investigated the consequences of declines in body size for spawner reproductive potential in terms of total egg mass per female. Our case study is the Yukon River where Chinook salmon have supported subsistence, commercial, and recreational fisheries. Using historical observations on individual body size from throughout the Yukon River and the relationship between female size and total egg mass from the Canadian portion, we estimate a decline in average female reproductive potential of 24%-35% since the 1970s. Because spawner abundances and the population sex ratio have not shown clear trends over time, our results suggest a reduced total population reproductive potential. Changes in spawner quality should be considered when developing management reference points, and conservation of population demographic structure may be necessary to sustain productive Chinook salmon systems. The authors share a successful Fulbright Group Projects Abroad grant award. The purpose of the grant was to enhance American educators' experience and knowledge of South Africa, in particular, and sub-Saharan Africa more generally. Toward that end, participants experienced a multifaceted view of South Africa's geographical diversity, both physical and cultural, through visiting three provinces and four major cities. Participants experienced people and places associated with reconciliation, segregation, and creolization, making comparisons with the U.S. historical experience. The program required participants to attend an orientation, participate in predeparture readings and to develop curriculum units that were shared at a national conference. (Contains 1 figure.)

Capstone is defined in the dictionary as "putting the final stone in place." Business Policy or Strategic Management is typically the capstone class in a business management degree program. As such, there are prerequisite requirements in terms of courses and specific knowledge. We have implemented a competency test for the capstone class and tested various methods of administration. We used logistic regression to test the various methods for first-time pass and ultimate pass rates of students. Our results indicate that while there was a difference in first time pass with and without review sessions, there was no difference in the ultimate pass rate when review sessions were held. We also found that infinite opportunities for taking the exam made no significant difference in the ultimate pass rate. (Contains 1 table.)
