The article recommends best practices for designing an automatic sprinkler system for effective inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM). The best practices may be used to meet some of the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) NFPA 13: Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems while still facilitating the ITM activities described in NFPA 25: Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems.
