Training and certification of personnel in capsule preparation are essential procedures, overseen by the pharmacist who delegates these tasks. These procedures aim not only to ensure the efficacy and safety of operations but also to establish a clear chain of responsibility. They align with established best practices. Certification grants formal authorization to qualified individuals to perform specific tasks. For new hires, a comprehensive training program is designed to facilitate their integration and empower them from the onset. We propose training objectives structured around a competency-based approach, highlighting objective evaluation criteria applicable in real-world practical settings. These training objectives address critical aspects such as the handling of hazardous substances, weighing and mixing of powders, and capsule filling. They also emphasize the importance of documentation and traceability. Specialized preparations and tools are offered to facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes.

The objectives were to assess the microbiological stability and the physical enclosure integrity of the overwrapping for batch production of standard cytotoxic injectable solutions.

The extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and IR structural study of the reaction products of anticancer drugs degradation by diethyl dithiocarbamate (DDTC) with cisplatin, carboplantin, and oxaliplatin, are discussed. Results suggest that the World Health Organisation inactivation protocol might be extended to carboplatin and oxaliplatin.

The aim of the study was to assess compatibility of 7 commonly used parenteral drugs with 3 commercialized total parenteral admixtures (Kabimix® 1200, Kabiven® 1600 and Clinomel® N7-1000) during simulated Y-site infusion. Parenteral drug (acyclovir, amikacin, heparin, methylprednisolone, ondansetron, ranitidine and vancomycin) were simulated infused during 60 min. Samples were collected at T0 (total parenteral nutrition only), T30min and T60min (simulated Y-site infusion), and T75min (back to parenteral admixtures without drugs). Stability assessment included particle-size analysis, zeta potential measurement, pH determination and visual inspection. Precipitation of acyclovir was found. It depends on acyclovir concentration and on the total parenteral nutrition flow rate. Only maximal flow rate of the parenteral admixture and high drug concentration resulted in acyclovir precipitation. Moreover, precipitation led to a change in particle-size distribution with 3 to 9% of particles greater than 5 μm. The other drugs tested were physically compatible during Y-site infusion with the parenteral admixtures. However, amikacin caused a dramatic increase of the zeta potential which came near the critical emulsion stability zone. This effect must be taken into account in case of parenteral admixtures with initial zeta potential near the critical zone. No difference was found between the 3 commercialized total parenteral admixtures. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The aim of the study was to assess compatibility of seven commonly used parenteral drugs with three commercialized total parenteral admixtures.Parenteral drugs (acyclovir, amikacin, heparin, methylprednisolone, ondansetron, ranitidine and vancomycin) were directly injected into total parenteral admixtures (Kabimix®1200, Kabiven®1600 and Clinomel®N7-1000). Stability admixture study was performed during seven days at + 4°C.Stability assessment included particle-size analysis, zeta potential measurement, pH determination and visual inspection.Only acyclovir resulted in the immediate formation of a precipitate with all of the admixtures. Precipitation was only visually inspected while the injection of drug. Moreover, acyclovir increased significantly the pH of the three original parenteral admixtures. Nevertheless, no significative modification of the particle-size distribution was noted.The other drugs tested were physically compatible with the parenteral admixtures. However, amikacin caused a dramatic increase of the zeta potential which came near the critical emulsion stability zone. This effect must be taken into account in case of parenteral admixtures with initial zeta potential near the critical zone.No difference was found between the three commercialized total parenteral admixtures. In our conditions, emulsions were always stable with all the seven drugs, only physically incompatibility with acyclovir was noted.
