The 12C(α, y)16O reaction is important in the production of universal 16O, but its cross-section at the relevant energies of static helium burning is complex and uncertain. The total cross-section originates from a sum of resonance tails and direct captures, making the contributions of sub-threshold states difficult to estimate. One proposed method to estimate these contributions involves determining relevant reduced α-widths of the sub-threshold states through indirect measurements. Therefore, 19F(p, αy)16O reaction was used to populate α-unbound states in 16O using a 2.6 MeV proton beam on a CaF2 target. A detection system consisting of single and telescope configurations of Si detectors was used to detect 2α-particles and a 12C particle in coincidence. Scintillator detectors were included in the setup to study the de-excitation of the states populated in 16O to the ground state. Under good event conditions a preliminar indentification of the particles detected has been conducted.

miniBELEN is a modular and transportable neutron moderated counter with a nearly flat neutron detection efficiency up to 10 MeV. Modularity implies that the moderator can be reassembled in different ways in order to obtain different types of response. The detector has been developed in the context of the Measurement of Alpha Neutron Yields (MANY) collaboration, which is a scientific effort aiming to carry out measurements of (𝛼, 𝑛) production yields, reaction cross-sections and neutron energy spectra. In this work we present and discuss several configurations of the miniBELEN detector. The experimental validation of the efficiency calculations using 252Cf sources and the measurement of the 27Al(𝛼, 𝑛) 30P reaction is also presented.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Nucleosynthesis in Type I X-ray bursts (XRB) proceeds eventually through the rp-process near the proton drip-line. Several N=Z nuclei act as waiting points in the reaction network chain. Astrophysical calculations of XRB light curves depend upon the theoretical modelling of the beta decays of interest, with the N=Z waiting points 64Ge, 68Se, 72Kr, 76Sr, and their second-neighbours N=Z+2 being key nuclei in this context. We have carried out different experimental campaigns at ISOLDE (CERN) to determine the B(GT) distributions, in the decay of several N=Z, N=Z+2 and their daughters, of particular relevance in rp-process calculations. To this aim the Total Absorption Spectroscopy technique is applied. Here we present results on the beta decay of 64Ga and the status of the analysis of 64Ge. Our results provide benchmarks for testing and constraining models under terrestrial conditions that can be used later for predictions in stellar environments.

- Abstract
The proton drip-line nucleus $^{17}$Ne is considered a good candidate for a Borromean two-proton halo with a $^{15}$O + p + p structure. Angular distributions of the elastic scattering and inclusive $^{15}$O production for a 136 MeV $^{17}$Ne beam incident on a $^{208}$Pb target were measured for the first time at the SPIRAL1 facility, GANIL. Use of the GLORIA detector array allowed high-resolution data over a wide angular range from 20∘ up to 95∘ in the laboratory frame to be obtained. The elastic scattering angular distribution shows similarities with those for both $^{6}$He and $^{20}$Ne at equivalent collision energies with respect to the corresponding Coulomb barriers, exhibiting the suppression of the Coulomb rainbow peak characteristic of strong coupling. Optical model and coupled channel fits suggest that this is due to a combination of coupling to low-lying quadrupole resonances and Coulomb dipole coupling to the low-lying continuum, although their relative importance depends on the relevant B(E2) values which remain to be firmly determined.

Precise spectroscopic information on the fast neutron induced fission of the 238U(n,f) reaction was recently gained using a new technique which involved coupling of the Miniball high resolution y-ray spectrometer and the LICORNE directional neutron source. The experiment allowed measurement of the isotopic fission yields for around 40 even-even nuclei at an incident neutron energy of around 2 MeV where yield data are very sparse. In addition spectroscopic information on very neutron-rich fission products was obtained. Results were compared to models, both the JEFF-3.1.1 data base and the GEF code, and large discrepancies for the S1 fission mode in the Sn/Mo isotope pair were discovered. This suggests that current models are overestimating the role played by spherical shell effects in fast neutron induced fission. In late 2017 and 2018 the nu-ball hybrid spectrometer will be constructed at the IPN Orsay to perform further experimental investigations with directional neutrons coupled to a powerful hybrid Ge/LaBr3 detector array. This will open up new possibilities for measurements of fission yields for fast-neutron-induced fission using the spectroscopic technique and will be complimentary to other methods being developed.

- Abstract
The Gamow-Teller strength distribution of the decay of $^{186}$Hg into $^{186}$Au has been determined for the first time using the total absorption gamma spectroscopy technique and has been compared with theoretical QRPA calculations using the SLy4 Skyrme force. The measured Gamow-Teller strength distribution and the half-life are described by mixing oblate and prolate configurations independently in the parent and daughter nuclei. In this theoretical framework the best description of the experimental beta strength is obtained with dominantly prolate components for both parent $^{186}$Hg and daughter $^{186}$Au. The approach also allowed us to determine an upper limit of the oblate component in the parent state. The complexity of the analysis required the development of a new approach in the analysis of the X-ray gated total absorption spectrum.

Total absorption gamma-ray spectroscopy is used to measure accurately the intensity of γ emission from neutron-unbound states populated in the β-decay of delayed-neutron emitters. From the comparison of this intensity with the intensity of neutron emission one can deduce information on the (n,γ) cross section for unstable neutron-rich nuclei of interest in r process abundance calculations. A surprisingly large γ branching was observed for a number of isotopes. The results are compared with Hauser-Feshbach calculations and discussed.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Beta decay of fission products is at the origin of decay heat and antineutrino emission in nuclear reactors. Decay heat represents about 7% of the reactor power during operation and strongly impacts reactor safety. Reactor antineutrino detection is used in several fundamental neutrino physics experiments and it can also be used for reactor monitoring and non-proliferation purposes. 92,93Rb are two fission products of importance in reactor antineutrino spectra and decay heat, but their β-decay properties are not well known. New measurements of 92,93Rb β-decay properties have been performed at the IGISOL facility (Jyväskylä, Finland) using Total Absorption Spectroscopy (TAS). TAS is complementary to techniques based on Germanium detectors. It implies the use of a calorimeter to measure the total gamma intensity de-exciting each level in the daughter nucleus providing a direct measurement of the beta feeding. In these proceedings we present preliminary results for 93Rb, our measured beta feedings for 92Rb and we show the impact of these results on reactor antineutrino spectra and decay heat calculations.

The
12 C(α, y)16 O reaction is important in the production of universal16 O, but its cross-section at the relevant energies of static helium burning is complex and uncertain. The total cross-section originates from a sum of resonance tails and direct captures, making the contributions of sub-threshold states difficult to estimate. One proposed method to estimate these contributions involves determining relevant reduced α-widths of the sub-threshold states through indirect measurements. Therefore,19 F(p, αy)16 O reaction was used to populate α-unbound states in16 O using a 2.6 MeV proton beam on a CaF2 target. A detection system consisting of single and telescope configurations of Si detectors was used to detect 2α-particles and a12 C particle in coincidence. Scintillator detectors were included in the setup to study the de-excitation of the states populated in16 O to the ground state. Under good event conditions a preliminar indentification of the particles detected has been conducted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

International audience; Even mass neutron-rich niobium isotopes are among the principal contributors to the reactor antineutrino energy spectrum. They are also among the most challenging to measure due to the refractory nature of niobium, and because they exhibit isomeric states lying very close in energy. The β-intensity distributions of Nb100gs,100m and Nb102gs,102m β decays have been determined using the total absorption γ-ray spectroscopy technique. The measurements were performed at the upgraded Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility at the University of Jyväskylä. Here, the double Penning trap system JYFLTRAP was employed to disentangle the β decay of the isomeric states. The new data obtained in this challenging measurement have a large impact in antineutrino summation calculations. For the first time the discrepancy between the summation model and the reactor antineutrino measurements in the region of the shape distortion has been reduced.

The β+/EC decay of 72Kr has been studied by means of the Total Absorption gamma Spectroscopy technique in order to determine the Gamow-Teller strength B(GT) distribution. The comparison with theoretical predictions suggests a dominantly oblate deformation for the 72Kr ground state. The de-excitation of low-energy excited states in 72Br is studied via conversion electron spectroscopy. The conversion coefficients and multipolarities of 14 low-energy transitions are determined and the spin and parity of the levels involved are deduced.

The g factor of the first excited 2+ state of 72Zn has been measured using the Low Velocity Transient Field (LVTF) technique in combination with Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics. The aim of the experiment was to test the viability of this method when applied to short-lived radioactive ISOL beams, in particular in comparison to the alternative High Velocity Transient Field (HVTF) technique using fragment beams. The result obtained for g(2+) in 72Zn in the present experiment follows the trend observed for the lighter stables Zn isotopes.

[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] - Abstract
International audience; The existence of two close-lying nuclear states in $^{73}$Ga has recently been experimentally determined: a 1/2$^−$ spin-parity for the ground state was measured in a laser spectroscopy experiment, while a J$^{\pi} = 3/2^−$ level was observed in transfer reactions. This scenario is supported by Coulomb excitation studies, which set a limit for the energy splitting of 0.8 keV. In this work, we report on the study of the excited structure of $^{73}$Ga populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{73}$Zn produced at ISOLDE, CERN. Using $\beta$-gated, $\gamma$-ray singles, and $\gamma - \gamma$ coincidences, we have searched for energy differences to try to delimit the ground-state energy splitting, providing a more stringent energy difference limit. Three new half-lives of excited states in $^{73}$Ga have been measured using the fast-timing method with LaBr$_3$(Ce) detectors. From our study, we help clarify the excited structure of $^{73}$Ga and we extend the existing $^{73}$Zn decay to $^{73}$Ga with 8 new energy levels and 35 $\gamma$ transitions. We observe a 195-keV transition consistent with a $\gamma$ ray de-exciting a short-lived state in the $\beta$-decay parent $^{73}$Zn.

International audience; The β decay of Tc100 has been studied by using the total absorption γ-ray spectroscopy technique at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility in Jyväskylä. In this work the new Decay Total Absorption γ-ray Spectrometer in coincidence with a cylindrical plastic β detector has been employed. The β intensity to the ground state obtained from the analysis is in good agreement with previous high-resolution measurements. However, differences in the feeding to the first-excited state as well as weak feeding to a new level at high excitation energy have been deduced from this experiment. Theoretical calculations performed in the quasiparticle random-phase approximation framework are also reported. Comparison of these calculations with our measurement serves as a benchmark for calculations of the double β decay of Mo100.

International audience; The lifetime of the 0$_3^+$ state in $^{66}$Ni, two neutrons below the $N=40$ subshell gap, has been measured. The transition $B(E2;0_3^+ \rightarrow 2_1^+)$ is one of the most hindered E2 transitions in the Ni isotopic chain and it implies that, unlike $^{68}$Ni, there is a spherical structure at low excitation energy. We have performed extensive shell-model calculations that correctly predict this result, obtaining a spherical 0$^+$ state at the correct energy and with an extremely low $B(E2;0_3^+ \rightarrow 2_1^+)$ value.

We have observed β+ -delayed α and pα emission from the proton-rich nucleus 21 Mg produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The assignments were cross-checked with a time distribution analysis. This is the third identified case of βpα emission. We discuss the systematic of beta-delayed particle emission decays, show that our observed decays fit naturally into the existing pattern, and argue that the patterns are to a large extent caused by odd–even effects.

The beta decay of $^{192,190}$Pb has been studied using the total absorption technique at the ISOLDE(CERN) facility. The beta-decay strength deduced from the measurements, combined with QRPA theoretical calculations, allow us to infer that the ground states of the $^{192,190}$Pb isotopes are spherical. These results represent the first application of the shape determination method using the total absorption technique for heavy nuclei and in a region where there is considerable interest in nuclear shapes and shape effects. We have observed beta+-delayed alpha and p-alpha emission from the proton-rich nucleus 21Mg produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The assignments were cross-checked with a time distribution analysis. This is the third identified case of beta-p-alpha emission. We discuss the systematic of beta-delayed particle emission decays, show that our observed decays fit naturally into the existing pattern, and argue that the patterns are to a large extent caused by odd-even effects., 6 pages, 5 figures

We have observed beta-delayed proton emission from the neutron-rich nucleus 11Be by analysing a sample collected at the ISOLDE facility at CERN with accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). With a branching ratio of (8.4 +- 0.6) 10^{-6} the strength of this decay mode, as measured by the B(GT)-value, is unexpectedly high. The result is discussed within a simple single-particle model and could be interpreted as a quasi-free decay of the 11Be halo neutron into a single-proton state., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures
