Abstract

We analyze the scalar radiation emitted by a source interacting with a nonminimally coupled scalar field in four-dimensional Schwarzschild--de Sitter spacetime. We obtain the emission probability using quantum field theory in curved spacetimes at tree level. We find that the source emits synchrotron-type radiation for orbits near the photon sphere for all allowed values of the parameters. We also find that the emitted power strongly depends on the coupling to the curvature scalar. In particular, the previously observed enhancement in the contribution of lower multipoles to the emitted power in this spacetime with minimal coupling is absent when conformal coupling is considered., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, published version

A semiclassical investigation of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by a charged particle in a radially freely falling motion in Schwarzschild spacetime is carried out. Abstract

The electromagnetic radiation emitted by an accelerated charged particle can be described theoretically as the interaction of the charge with the so-called Fulling-Davies-Unruh thermal bath in the coordinate frame co-accelerated with the charge. We present a similar analysis on the gravitational radiation from a classical point mass uniformly accelerated, being pulled by a string satisfying the weak energy condition. Abstract

Synthesising the spatial and temporal dynamics of the human body skeleton remains a challenging task, not only in terms of the quality of the generated shapes, but also of their diversity, particularly to synthesise realistic body movements of a specific action (action conditioning). In this paper, we propose Kinetic-GAN, a novel architecture that leverages the benefits of Generative Adversarial Networks and Graph Convolutional Networks to synthesise the kinetics of the human body. The proposed adversarial architecture can condition up to 120 different actions over local and global body movements while improving sample quality and diversity through latent space disentanglement and stochastic variations. Our experiments were carried out in three well-known datasets, where Kinetic-GAN notably surpasses the state-of-the-art methods in terms of distribution quality metrics while having the ability to synthesise more than one order of magnitude regarding the number of different actions. Abstract

OBJECTIVES Age is an important factor weighing on revascularization decisions. We analysed long-term health outcomes of young patients with low-complexity coronary anatomy suitable for both coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), according to revascularization strategy. METHODS Patients 60 years old or less, undergoing invasive coronary angiography between January 2007 and December 2015, presenting with proximal left anterior descending artery involvement, left main or multivessel disease and a SYNTAX Score ≤22 were retrospectively selected. An inverse probability of treatment weight methodology generated a pseudopopulation with well-balanced characteristics, which was used to estimate the average treatment effect between PCI (n  = 374) and CABG (n  = 173). RESULTS Mean age was 53 ± 7 years old, 27% had diabetes mellitus and 48% presented with an acute coronary syndrome. Mean SYNTAX score was 13.6 ± 4.9 and 68% underwent PCI as index revascularization strategy. In the weighed population, the adjusted hazard of the primary end-point of all-cause death at total follow-up (median 9.3 years; interquartile range 6.9–11.7) was 0.40 (95% confidence interval 0.19–0.7) for CABG vs PCI (incidence rate 5.8 vs 14.0 deaths/1000-person-years). Accounting for death as competing risk, the cumulative hazard of new revascularization (sub-distribution hazard ratio 0.72; 95% confidence interval 0.32–1.25) and any cause hospital readmission (sub-distribution hazard ratio 0.70; 95% confidence interval 0.41–1.07) were lower in CABG patients, as opposed to death/stroke rates at 30 days which were higher with CABG (0.3% vs 1.7%; risk ratio = 5.84). CONCLUSIONS In this quasi-experimental analysis of young patients with coronary artery disease and an equivalent indication for both PCI and CABG, long-term health outcomes were favourably associated with CABG, as compared to PCI. 49. Characterizing the most demanding passages of kinematic and mechanical activity in elite football: a multifactorial approach.

Abstract

This study investigated the 5-minute most demanding passages (MDP) of kinematic (distance covered) and mechanical (acceleration and deceleration) activities in elite male football according to multifactorial criterion performance variables. Global positioning systems data were collected from 39 players across 45 matches in the Swedish first division (n = 329 observations). The multifactorial kinematic variable (MDPk) was composed of the concurrent distances covered at moderate-speed running, high-speed running, and sprinting distances, and the multifactorial mechanical (MDPm) considered the concurrent occurrences of high-intensity acceleration and deceleration activities. A moving average method was used to identify the MDP across a 5-minute period. The frequency distribution of the multifactorial variables, and differences in the time of occurrence and magnitude between multifactorial performance variables and their univariate constituent variables were investigated. Frequency distribution analysis revealed MDPk and MDPm peaked in the first 5 min of the match (MDPk: χ² (15, N = 329) = 135.88, p ≤ 0.001, W: 0.64, 115.99 ± 32.7 s; MDPm: χ² (15, N = 329) = 31.02, p ≤ 0.001, W: 0.31, 101.21 ± 25.1 s; p ≤ 0.0004). Within each half, differences in the MDP commencement time between the multifactorial variables and their respective discrete univariate constituent variables were trivial to small (MDPk effect size (ES): 0.04--0.21; MDPm ES: 0.02--0.11). Linear mixed model analysis demonstrated that the MDP magnitude of multifactorial variables were approximately 8--28% and 8--21% lower across the match and halves, respectively, compared to the MDP of their respective univariate constituent variables (p ≤ 0.001; r = 0.26--0.62). The greatest differences between the respective multifactorial and discrete constituent variables were observed for sprinting (-28%) and high-intensity acceleration (-22%). The results reveal that the MDP is distinguished based on peak kinematic and mechanical demands, which occur at discrete periods and exhibit distinct locomotor profiles across the match and within each half. Practitioners should consider the methods of identifying the MDP, as the selection of univariate and multifactorial kinematic and mechanical performance variables can impact MDP characterization, which can qualify the designing of bespoke training protocols.
