Se suele decir que en el primer caso se trata de guerra y en el segundo de asesinato a sangre fría. Pero la verdad sin afeites es la siguiente: en ambos casos se trata de gente inerme, no combatientes, ancianos, mujeres y niños, y fueron aniquilados para lograr un objetivo político militar. Abstract

El precepto de que todo ser humano es capaz de aprender y modificar su comportamiento cuando es necesario, nos induce a reflexionar que el sujeto se permite a sí mismo captar la riqueza de las múltiples dimensiones que intervienen en las situaciones que enfrenta aunque éstas sean equívocas. En tal sentido, el presente ensayo aborda el uso del error en los ambientes de aprendizaje desde una visión transdisciplinaria a través de tres aristas: los ambientes de aprendizaje, el proceso de reflexión entre error/fracaso versus error/aprendizaje y el error desde una polisemia intersubjetiva en el aprendizaje. The belief that all human beings can learn and change their behavior when necessary, leads us to think that every individual may capture in depth the richness in the multiple dimensions involved in the different situations they are to face, even if they are misleading. In this sense, this paper discusses the use of error in learning environments from a transdisciplinary view through three branches: the learning environments, the process of reflecting on error/failure versus error/learning, and error from an intersubjective polysemy in learning. Si nous partons du principe que tout être humain est capable d’apprendre et de modifier son comportement, le cas échéant, nous pouvons alors penser que le sujet se permet la possibilité de saisir la richesse des dimensions multiples intervenant dans des situations auxquelles il doit faire face, même si celles-ci sont ambiguës. Abstract

The Department of Programming and Educational Technology of Universidad Metropolitana has initiated a research strand about the attention to diversity, related to the use of Information and Communication Technologies as tools to communicate, inform and create learning communities. The main objective of the research was to conduct a study in order to determine both the degree of knowledge and acceptance of the community of Universidad Metropolitana (faculty, staff, employees, students, and relatives) regarding to the entry of people with special educational needs and what facilities and/or solutions are required for their activities on university campus. Disability problems in the area of Information and Communication Technologies imply assuming a point of view oriented towards a change in education, starting from the classroom itself, as a contribution for future actions in the area. For this reason, the action-research conducted offered the possibility of investigating from a reflective viewpoint, a variety of social situations through the education-learning process protagonists, which in this case, compose the university community. This collaborative research project pretended to lay the foundations towards a truly inclusive education model within Universidad Metropolitana., El Departamento de Programación y Tecnología Educativa de la Universidad Metropolitana inició una línea de investigación vinculada con la atención a la diversidad y el uso de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación como herramientas para comunicar, informar y crear comunidades de aprendizaje. El objetivo general de la investigación fue realizar un estudio para determinar el grado de conocimiento y de aceptación de la comunidad de la Universidad Metropolitana (profesores, alumnos, empleados administrativos, obreros y familiares) en cuanto al ingreso de personas con necesidades educativas especiales y qué facilidades de implantación de soluciones se requieren para su desenvolvimiento en el recinto universitario. La problemática de la discapacidad en el área de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación, implica asumir una postura que oriente la transformación de la educación desde el propio ambiente del aula, como un aporte para futuras acciones en el área. Por ello, la investigación-acción ofreció la posibilidad de indagar de manera reflexiva, situaciones sociales a través de los mismos protagonistas del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, que en nuestro caso es la comunidad unimetana. Con el desarrollo de este proyecto de investigación colaborativo se pretendió que la Universidad Metropolitana se encamine en las acciones para una verdadera educación inclusiva.

42. Effect of Cladosporium rot on the composition and aromatic compounds of red wine

Abstract

High incidences of Cladosporium rot frequently occur (over 50% infected berries per clusters) in delayed harvests in Cabernet Sauvignon and other red cultivars of Vitis vinifera in Chile. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of Cladosporium rot (Cladosporium cladosporioides and C. herbarum) on composition and aroma of red wine. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère wines made with 50% of Cladosporium rot infected grapes (CRG) were characterized and compared with wines made identically with apparently healthy grapes (AHG). Wine composition, color, and aroma were determined and the wines were subjected to sensory evaluation. Differences in volatile acidity, residual sugar, anthocyanins, color hue, and tannins between CRG wines and AHG wines of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère were significant (p

Abstract

Introduccion. Estudios previos han sugerido que existe agregacion familiar de gliomas; sin embargo, los resultados no siempre han sido replicables. Sujetos y metodos. En el presente estudio de una poblacion mexicana, comparamos 100 casos de glioma con 124 controles sanos no emparentados, asi como sus familiares de primer, segundo y tercer grado (n = 3.575 y 4.520, respectivamente). Resultados. Los familiares de los casos tuvieron un riesgo significativamente mayor de desarrollar tumores cerebrales que los familiares de los controles (odds ratio, OR = 5,3; p < 0,05; intervalo de confianza al 95%, IC 95% = 1,1-25,7), su riesgo de desarrollar cualquier tipo de cancer tambien fue mayor (OR = 2; p < 0,05; IC 95% = 1,16-3,51), y este riesgo fue el doble para varones que para mujeres (OR = 2; p < 0,05; IC 95% = 1,15-3,37). Conclusion. El presente estudio apoya la existencia de agregacion familiar de neoplasias cerebrales y obliga a profundizar en el estudio de su etiologia genetica.

Abstract

Ruminant feeding in tropical regions is characterized by grass grazing. Throughout the year, grasses show variations in their availability and quality. Therefore, modern feeding systems must consider the energy requirements of the animal and the degree in which a feed or a combination of several of them could cover the nutritional requirements of the different species and physiological conditions. The central reaction for obtaining energy is carry out in the rumen in the anaerobic fermentation of the carbohydrates present in the feed. This process is developed by the ruminal microorganisms, with the purpose of generating energy for the microbial growth and the concomitant production of volatile fatty acids, methane, carbon dioxide and fermentation heat. For improving meat and milk production and quality in tropical regions, different options have been created for manipulating the energy metabolism of ruminants. Silvopastoral systems, based on Leucaena leucocephala and Panicum maximum association, allow attaining live weight gains of 770 g/d in growing cattle. It is essential the identification of Bos indicus cattle breeds or crosses with lower requirements of metabolizable energy (ME) for maintenance, so as the energy efficiency of meat production could be increased. For milk, it is possible to increase the concentration of unsaturated fatty acids (CLA's) by the tannin presence in the foliages that due to its beneficial effect on human health, could supply aggregate value to the cow's milk. Feeding practices are necessary for reducing the caloric increase of the feeding and that decrease methane emissions from the rumen through the effect of some foliages and fruits that possess secondary metabolites capable of affecting ruminal fermentation. 47. Adding chloroquine to conventional treatment for glioblastoma multiforme: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Abstract

Background: Malignant cell clones resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy frequently lead to treatment failure in patients with glioblastoma multiforme. Preliminary studies suggest that adding chloroquine to conventional therapy may improve treatment outcomes.Objective: To examine the effect of adding chloroquine to conventional therapy for glioblastoma multiforme.Design: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.Setting: National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Mexico.Patients: 30 patients with surgically confirmed glioblastoma confined to 1 cerebral hemisphere, with a Karnofsky performance score greater than 70, no comorbid disease, and age younger than 60 years.Interventions: Oral chloroquine at 150 mg/d for 12 months beginning on postoperative day 5 or placebo. All patients received conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy.Measurements: Primary outcome was survival after surgery; surviving patients were followed up to October 2005. Periodic evaluation using the Karnofsky scale and imaging studies, as well as hematologic tests and ophthalmologic examinations, was done in all patients.Results: Median survival after surgery was 24 months for chloroquine-treated patients and 11 months for controls. At the end of the observation period, 6 patients treated with chloroquine had survived 59, 45, 30, 27, 27, and 20 months, respectively; 3 patients from the control group had survived 32, 25, and 22 months, respectively. Although not statistically significantly different, the rate of death with time was approximately half as large in patients receiving chloroquine as in patients receiving placebo (hazard ratio, 0.52 [95% CI, 0.21 to 1.26]; P = 0.139).Limitations: The observed advantage of chloroquine may be due to chance; differences in pretreatment characteristics and conventional treatment regimens could not be adjusted for because of the small sample size.Conclusions: Chloroquine may improve mid-term survival when given in addition to conventional therapy for glioblastoma multiforme. These results suggest that larger, more definitive studies of chloroquine as adjuvant therapy for glioblastoma are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

48. Two models of peripheral sympathetic autoregulation: role of neuronal histamine.

Abstract

We have studied the influence of a peripheral histamine-containing neuronal system on the sympathetic activity of the rat vas deferens. Chronic surgical interruptions of the sympathetic structures involving the adjacent histamine-containing neuronal system cause changes of sympathetic activity, as measured by the rate of disappearance of norepinephrine after reserpine administration to the awake rat. Sympathetic ganglionectomy performed on either side causes an enhancement of the sympathetic activity in the contralateral vas deferens. When the decussation of histamine-containing pathways is surgically interrupted (interganglionic section), a bilateral enhancement of sympathetic activity occurs. The histamine-containing neuronal system seems to exert a contralateral reciprocal inhibitory modulation of sympathetic activity at the vas deferens. This modulation is evoked by nervous impulses traveling in the preganglionic fiber because enhancement of sympathetic activity due to contralateral ganglionectomy is suppressed by ipsilateral decentralization. No compensatory reflexes of central origin are observed. Sympathetic enhancement due to interruption of histamine-containing nervous pathways is reversed by i.v. infusion of histamine. An H-1 or H-2 histamine receptor antagonist does not have any effect on the vas deferens sympathetic activity of the intact rat. In the heart of the deafferentated dog, removal of the left stellate sympathetic ganglion causes facilitation of the chronotropic responses induced by stimulation of the right sympathetic postganglionic nerve, also suggesting a peripheral contralateral inhibitory modulation of sympathetic activity at the heart. It appears from all these findings that a peripheral inhibitory reflex is evoked when sympathetic activity is enhanced, thus contributing to maintaining homeostasis.
