Background and objectives Violence against women (VAW) is widespread and can have serious physical and mental health consequences, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sleep disorders. Victim-survivors often face barriers in accessing specialised care, highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary response, especially in healthcare settings. The Maison des Femmes (MdF) model provides holistic support to women experiencing VAW, including medical, psychological, social and legal support. The aim of this study is to examine whether the MdF’s comprehensive intervention programme offers advantages over standard care in improving mental health indicators, such as PTSD.Method and analysis Our pragmatic quasi-experimental study uses a non-randomised controlled cluster design. The intervention group comprises women enrolled in MdFs in five French cities, while the comparison group includes women receiving usual care in sociomedical structures located geographically close to MdF centres. Our study aims to recruit 360 women (180 per group), aged 18 years or older, who have experienced intimate partner violence or sexual violence and who seek care at the study centres. The primary analysis will compare the change in PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) scores over 6 months in the two groups using multivariable linear regression with propensity score adjustment. Secondary outcomes include sleep disorders, quality of life, symptoms of anxiety and depression, self-esteem, sense of safety and well-being, initiation of legal and socioprofessional proceedings, and healthcare utilisation.Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the ‘Comité de protection des personnes Ile de France III’ (CPP Committee for the Protection of Persons Ile de France III; institutional review board on 20 December 2023; Ref no. Abstract Background Sexual education is an international priority to promote sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and to reduce risky sexual behaviour. Experts recommend holistic and comprehensive SRH peer-led education. In 2018, the French government launched a new public peer-led health prevention programme called the “Service Sanitaire” (SeSa), consisting of health education provided by healthcare students (peer educators) to teenagers. For the first time in France, the impact of the programme was prospectively evaluated during its first year to examine whether the programme improved the SRH knowledge of healthcare students and teenagers. Risk perception and risky sexual behaviour among these populations were also evaluated. Method A prospective multicentre controlled study was conducted from November 2018 to May 2019. SRH knowledge was compared before and after the SeSa programme, and the evolution of this knowledge was compared, with linear regression, between healthcare students part of the SRH SeSa programme and those who were part of another programme. The same analysis of knowledge was performed with respect to teenagers who received SRH interventions as part of the SeSa compared to teenagers who did not participate in a specific SRH education programme. Risk perception and risky behaviour were studied before and after the programme among healthcare students and teenagers. Results More than 70% of the targeted population participated in the study, with 747 healthcare students and 292 teenagers. SRH peer educators increased their knowledge score significantly more than other peer educators (a difference of 2.1 points/30 [95% CI 1.4–2.9] (p [between group]

Résumé Contexte L’exposition des hommes et des femmes à des agents reprotoxiques environnementaux est. associée à une atération de leur fertilité et des taux de grossesse après assistance médicale à la procreation (AMP). Néanmoins, ces expositions ne sont généralement pas recherchées en pratique courante avant AMP et les hommes infertiles sont généralement moins explorés que les femmes. Notre objectif était d’analyser le niveau de connaissance des hommes et des femmes infertiles sur les expositions environnementales reprotoxiques, leur perception de leurs propres facteurs de risque et la correlation entre les expositions reprotoxiques perçues et celles identifiées. Resultats Dans notre centre hospitalier universitaire, 390 patients infertiles (185 hommes et 185 femmes) nécessitant un traitement d’AMP ont complété un auto-questionnaire avant la consultation, afin d’évaluer leurs connaissances sur les expositions reprotoxiques, leurs sources d’information sur ce sujet, et leur perception de leurs propres expositions. Puis, lors de la consultation, le médecin utilisait un questionnaire standardisé pour estimer leurs facteurs de risque d’exposition reprotoxique (FRER) domestiques, environnementaux et professionnels. Nous avons comparé la perception par les patients de leurs propres expositions reprotoxiques avec le FRER estimé par le médecin. Le score de connaissance des agents reprotoxique des patients était de 61%. Leurs sources d’information principales étaient les medias (40%), internet (22%), et les gynécologues (15%). Le questionnaire standardisé identifiait un FRER chez 265/390 patients (68%); les FRER étaient significativement plus fréquents chez les hommes (77%) que chez le femmes (59%)(p

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common dysbiosis of unclear etiology but with potential consequences representing a public health problem. The diagnostic strategies vary widely. The Amsel criteria and Nugent score have obvious limitations, while molecular biology techniques are expensive and not yet widespread. We set out to evaluate different diagnostic strategies from vaginal samples using (1) a combination of abnormal vaginal discharge and vaginal pH > 4.5; (2) the Amsel-like criteria (replacing the “whiff test” with “malodorous discharge”); (3) the Nugent score; (4) the molecular quantification of Fannyhessea vaginae and Gardnerella vaginalis (qPCR); (5) and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (we also refer to it as “VAGI-TOF”). Overall, 54/129 patients (42%) were diagnosed with BV using the combination of vaginal discharge and pH, 46/118 (39%) using the Amsel-like criteria, 31/130 (24%) using qPCR, 32/130 (25%) using “VAGI-TOF”, and 23/84 (27%) using the Nugent score (not including the 26 (31%) with intermediate flora). Of the 84 women for whom the five diagnostic strategies were performed, the diagnosis of BV was considered for 38% using the combination of vaginal discharge and pH, 34.5% using the Amsel-like criteria, 27% using the Nugent score, 25% using qPCR, and 25% using “VAGI-TOF”. When qPCR was considered as the reference, the sensitivity rate for BV was 76.2% for the combination of vaginal discharge and pH, 90.5% for the Amsel-like criteria, 95.2% for the Nugent score, and 90.5% for “VAGI-TOF”, while the specificity rates were 74.6%, 84.1%, 95.3%, and 95.3%, respectively. When the Nugent score was considered as the reference, the sensitivity for BV was 69.6% for the combination of vaginal discharge and pH, 82.6% for the Amsel-like criteria, 87% for qPCR, and 78.7% for “VAGI-TOF”, while the specificity rates were 80%, 94.3%, 100%, and 97.1%, respectively. Overall, the use of qPCR and “VAGI-TOF” provided a consistent diagnosis of BV, followed by the Nugent score. If qPCR seems tedious and for some costly, “VAGI-TOF” could be an inexpensive, practical, and less time-consuming alternative.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a serious global problem, causing disease, suffering, and death. Although bacterial vaginosis (BV) is not considered to be an STI, it may be associated with an increased risk of contracting a wide range of STIs. We sought to assess the link between the different microorganisms involved in STIs and BV. A total of 290 vaginal swabs from 290 women sent for diagnostic purposes to the clinical microbiology laboratory of the Marseille University Public Hospitals were tested by specific qPCR targeting STI-causing microorganisms and BV. Of these 290 swabs, 15.2% (44/290) were diagnosed with at least one STI-causing microorganism and 17.2% (50/290) with BV. The prevalence of STIs was significantly higher in women with BV (28%, 14/50) than in those without (20.4%, 51/240). The prevalence of co-infections involving two STI-causing microorganisms was significantly more frequent in women with BV than in those without (18% [8/50] vs. 2% [5/250]; p < 0.001). The prevalence of monoinfections and polyinfections with STI-causing microorganisms was lower in women without BV than in those with (8.8% [21/240] vs. 28% [14/50]), p < 0.001 and 2% (5/240) vs. 8% (4/50), p = 0.05, respectively). Our data suggest that a correlation between BV and STI may exist, with a higher prevalence of both monoinfections and polyinfections involving STI-causing microorganisms in women with BV. Further research is needed to better understand BV and its links to STIs.

IntroductionPolycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most frequent etiology of anovulation, hyperandrogenism and infertility in women. Its pathophysiology remains poorly elucidated. Hyperprolactinemia (hPRL) is common in women of reproductive age and may partially mimic the clinical phenotype of PCOS. The simultaneous finding of both conditions is therefore not rare, however there are conflicting studies on whether a link exists between them.Materials and MethodsWe conducted a retrospective monocentric study between 2015 and 2021 and among women who were referred for possible PCOS, we selected those who met the ESHRE/Rotterdam definition criteria. hPRL was defined as two values above the upper limit of normal with at least one measurement in our centre.ResultsA total of 430 women were selected, of whom 179 met the PCOS criteria. 50 out of 179 patients (27.9%) had at least one elevated value of PRL and 21 (11.7%) had hPRL according to our definition. Among the 21 women of the PCOS/hPRL cohort, 5 (23.8%) had a microprolactinoma and all of them had PRL level ≥ 60 ng/ml. The remaining cases were macroprolactinemia (n=5), iatrogenic hPRL (n=4), primary hypothyroidism (n=1) or unexplained (n=6) despite exhaustive investigations. The metoclopramide test resulted in an increase of basal PRL < 300% in all prolactinomas and ≥ 300% in all the other etiologies.ConclusionhPRL was a common finding in PCOS women, secondary to a microprolactinoma in a quarter of cases. Metoclopramide test performed in women with hPRL below 60 ng/ml appeared as a helpful tool 1) to discriminate pituitary causes from others etiologies, 2) to potentially avoid unnecessary pituitary MRI.

Abstracts: Background: During pregnancy a feto-maternal exchange of cells through the placenta conducts to maternal microchimerism (Mc) in the child and fetal Mc in the mother. Because of this bidirectional traffic of cells, pregnant women have also acquired maternal cells in utero from their mother and could transfer grandmaternal (GdM) cells to their child through the maternal bloodstream during pregnancy. Thus, cord blood (CB) samples could theoretically carry GdMMc. Nevertheless this has never been demonstrated. Methods: Using Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-specific quantitative PCR assays on three-generation families, we were able to test 28 CB samples from healthy primigravid women for GdMMc in whole blood (WB) and isolated cells (PBMC, T, B, granulocytes, stem cells). Findings: Five CB samples (18%) had GdMMc which could not be confounded with maternal source, with quantities 100 fold lower than maternal Mc in WB and PBMC. Risk of aneuploidies and/or related invasive prenatal procedures significantly correlated with the presence of GdMMc in CB (p=0.024). Significantly decreased HLA compatibility was observed in three-generation families from CB samples carrying GdMMc (p=0.019). Interpretation: Transgenerational transfer of cells could have implications in immunology and evolution. Further analyses will be necessary to evaluate whether GdMMc in CB is a passive or immunologically active transfer and whether invasive prenatal procedures could trigger GdMMc. Contemporary challenges linked to public health and climate change demand more effective decision-making and urban planning practices, in particular by taking greater account of evidence. In order to do this, trust-building relationships between scientists and urban practitioners through collaborative research programmes is required. Based on a policy-relevant research project, Complex Urban Systems for Sustainability and Health (CUSSH), this project aims to support the transformation of cities to meet environmental imperatives and to improve health with a quantitative health impact assessment. A case study in Rennes, France, focuses on the role of a policy decision-support tool in the production and use of knowledge to support evidence-informed decision-making. Although the primary objective of informing decision-making through evidence-based science is not fulfilled, the use of a decision-making support tool can lay the foundations for relationship-building. It can serve as a support for boundary-spanning activities, which are recognised for their effectiveness in linking science to action. This case study illustrates that the path of knowledge transfer from science to policy can be challenging, and the usefulness of using models may not be where it was thought to have been. 'Practice relevance' The requirements for an effective policy-relevant research programme depend on the establishment of trust. An analysis of the evolution of relationships between cities’ practitioners and scientists shows the need to establish relationships between stakeholders involved in this kind of research. Even if it does not directly support the implementation of transformational policies for health and sustainability, the use of a decision-making support tool can become essential in building trust relationships and later have ripple effects to achieve its primary goals. Moreover, a dedicated team has a key role to facilitate the links between scientists and cities practitioners—to boundary span. Finally, this paper adds to a growing body of work reflecting upon the success of policy–research partnerships.

BackgroundCord blood (CB) samples are increasingly used as a source of hematopoietic stem cells in transplantation settings. Maternal cells have been detected in CB samples and their presence is associated with a better graft outcome. However, we still do not know what influences the presence of maternal microchimerism (MMc) in CB samples and whether their presence influences CB hematopoietic cell composition.Patients and MethodsHere we test whether genetic, biological, anthropometric and/or obstetrical parameters influence the frequency and/or quantity of maternal Mc in CB samples from 55 healthy primigravid women. Mc was evaluated by targeting non-shared, non-inherited Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-specific real-time quantitative PCR in whole blood and four cell subsets (T, B lymphocytes, granulocytes and/or hematopoietic progenitor cells). Furthermore CB samples were analyzed for their cell composition by flow cytometry and categorized according to their microchimeric status.ResultsMMc was present in 55% of CB samples in at least one cell subset or whole blood, with levels reaching up to 0.3% of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Two factors were predictive of the presence of MMc in CB samples: high concentrations of maternal serological Pregnancy-Associated-Protein-A at first trimester of pregnancy (p=0.018) and feto-maternal HLA-A and/or –DR compatibility (p=0.009 and p=0.01 respectively). Finally, CB samples positive for MMc were significantly enriched in CD56+ cells compared to CB negative for MMc.ConclusionsWe have identified two factors, measurable at early pregnancy, predicting the presence of maternal cells in CB samples at delivery. We have shown that MMc in CB samples could have an influence on the hematopoietic composition of fetal cells. CD56 is the phenotypic marker of natural killer cells (NK) and NK cells are known to be the main effector for graft versus leukemia reactions early after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. These results emphasize the importance of MMc investigation for CB banking strategies.

ObjectiveTo determine whether bladder size is associated with an unfavorable neonatal outcome, in the case of first-trimester megacystis.Materials and methodsThis was a retrospective observational study between 2009 and 2019 in two prenatal diagnosis centers. The inclusion criterion was an enlarged bladder (> 7 mm) diagnosed at the first ultrasound exam between 11 and 13+6 weeks of gestation. The main study endpoint was neonatal outcome based on bladder size. An adverse outcome was defined by the completion of a medical termination of pregnancy, the occurrence of in utero fetal death, or a neonatal death. Neonatal survival was considered as a favorable outcome and was defined by a live birth, with or without normal renal function, and with a normal karyotype.ResultsAmong 75 cases of first-trimester megacystis referred to prenatal diagnosis centers and included, there were 63 (84%) adverse outcomes and 12 (16%) live births. Fetuses with a bladder diameter of less than 12.5 mm may have a favorable outcome, with or without urological problems, with a high sensitivity (83.3%) and specificity (87.3%), area under the ROC curve = 0.93, 95% CI (0.86-0.99), p< 0.001. Fetal autopsy was performed in 52 (82.5%) cases of adverse outcome. In the 12 cases of favorable outcome, pediatric follow-up was normal and non-pathological in 8 (66.7%).ConclusionBladder diameter appears to be a predictive marker for neonatal outcome. Fetuses with smaller megacystis (7-10 mm) have a significantly higher chance of progressing to a favorable outcome. Urethral stenosis and atresia are the main diagnoses made when first-trimester megacystis is observed. Karyotyping is important regardless of bladder diameter.

Résumé Contexte Les fausses couches à répétition (FCR) sont définies lorsqu’au moins trois fausses couches ont eu lieu au cours du premier trimestre. Bien que la cause la plus fréquente soit l’aneuploïdie embryonnaire, et malgré un bilan chez la femme et un caryotype du couple, dans environ 50% des cas, les FCR restent inexpliquées. L’implication masculine a été peu étudiée et les résultats restent discordants. Ainsi, nous avons réalisé une étude cas-témoins prospective et multicentrique afin d’investiguer l’implication du gamète mâle dans les FCR inexpliquées. Méthodes Un total de 33 cas et de 27 témoins ont été inclus recrutés au sein de trois hôpitaux universitaires. Nous avons étudié les facteurs environnementaux et familiaux à partir d’un questionnaire détaillé ainsi que les données de l’examen andrologique, les caractéristiques du sperme, la fragmentation de l’ADN et la chromatine du spermatozoïde en utilisant le sperm chromatine structure assay (SCSA) et le test du TUNEL, ainsi que l’aneuploïdie des spermatozoïdes grâce à la méthode d’hybridation in situ de sonde chromosomique (FISH). Le test de Mann-Whitney et les tests exacts de Wilcoxon ou de Fisher ont été utilisés. Une corrélation de Spearman non-paramétrique a été réalisée afin d’analyser la relation entre les divers paramètres de sperme et les résultats de fragmentation d’ADN du sperme et les résultats de la FISH. Résultats Nous avons trouvé des différences significatives entre les cas et les témoins pour le délai de conception, l’indice de masse corporelle (IMC), les antécédents familiaux d’infertilité et le milieu de vie. Chez les cas, la mobilité totale des spermatozoïdes et le pourcentage de spermatozoïdes normaux étaient significativement diminués. Aucune différence n’a été trouvée entre les cas et les témoins concernant la fragmentation de l’ADN des spermatozoïdes ou l’intégrité de la chromatine. Chez les cas, la fréquence des spermatozoïdes présentant une aneuploïdie, une hyperhaploïdie et une disomie du chromosome 18 étaient significativement augmentée. Conclusions Cette étude cas-témoins prospective est. l’une des plus importantes ayant investigué à la fois les facteurs environnementaux, les caractéristiques des spermatozoïdes, la fragmentation et la chromatine de l’ADN des spermatozoïdes et les anomalies chromosomiques des spermatozoïdes en rapport avec les fausses couches à répétition inexpliquée. L’originalité de notre étude réside dans l’examen andrologique complet et la recherche des facteurs de risque et des antécédents reproductifs. D’autres études sont nécessaires pour confirmer les liens entre les FCR inexpliquées et les antécédents familiaux masculins d’infertilité ou de fausses couches. L’augmentation de l’aneuploïdie des spermatozoïdes observée chez les cas présentant des FCR inexpliquées plaide en faveur d’une étiologie masculine. Ces données ouvrent la voie à d’autres études pour démontrer l’utilité d’un dépistage génétique préimplantatoire chez les hommes présentant une augmentation de l’aneuploïdie des spermatozoïdes dont les partenaires présentent des FCR inexpliquées.

Strain ND3T was isolated from the genital tract of a 28-year-old woman with bacterial vaginosis. This strain exhibited a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 92.4% with Sutterella wadsworthensis, the phylogenetically closest species with standing in nomenclature. Strain ND3T was a strictly anaerobic Gram-negative rod and member of the family Sutterellaceae. It exhibited a genome of 2 476 884 bp containing 2175 protein-coding and 62 RNA genes. On the basis of these data, we propose the creation of ‘Dakarella massiliensis’ sp. nov. with strain ND3T (= CSUR P1938 = DSM 100447) as the type strain.

Congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are the most common congenital malformations. The objective of our study was to evaluate the prenatal screening accuracy of congenital heart disease (CHD) in Southern France and to evaluate the impact of a prenatal diagnosis on pregnancies outcomes and neonatal outcomes. We performed a bicentric, retrospective observational study in the southern region over 4 years was conducted between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2017. All foetuses and children under one year of age with CHD monitored in the UTHs (University Teaching Hospitals) in Marseille and Nice were included. CHD cases were divided into 3 groups: group 1, those with no possible options for anatomical repair; group 2, those with anatomical repair possibilities but that may require neonatal cardiologic management; and group 3, those with anatomical repair possibilities that do not require an emergency neonatal procedure. Among the 249070 deliveries during the study period, 677 CHD cases were included in the study. The overall prenatal screening rate was 71.5%. The screening rates were 97.8%, 63.6%, and 65.9% for groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Among group 2 CHD cases, 80% of the transpositions of the great arteries, 56% of the aortic coarctations, and 20% of the total anomalous pulmonary venous returns were detected during the prenatal period. A genetic anomaly was found in 16% of CHD cases. The overall mortality rate was 11.3% with a higher death rate in cases of prenatal screening (17.2% versus 2.1%; p < 0.001). However, when focusing only on children who died of CHD, prenatal screening did not create an impact (56.6% versus 100%, p = 0,140). Our data showed that the prenatal screening rate of CHD appears satisfactory in Southern France. Nevertheless, it could be improved for some CHD. This study did not find any benefit in terms of mortality from prenatal screening for CHD.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the reduction of perineal pain after vaginal deliveries by capacitive resistive radiofrequency therapy (RF).MethodsWe conducted a double-blind randomized study in University Hospital Centre in France. We included women presenting either perineal tears or an episiotomy after vaginal delivery (instrumental assisted or not). The participants were randomly assigned to RF or not at day 1 and day 2 postpartum. The primary outcome was pain evaluated as visual analog scale (VAS) score >4 at rest on day 2 after the treatment. Secondary outcomes included discomfort and pain while walking and seating two days after treatment, type of pain two days after treatment and analgesics intake two days after treatment, sexual intercourse retake and painful of intercourse were also assessed by phone call 30 days after delivery. We performed univariate analysis and multivariable regressions adjusting on the value of the outcome at baseline to improve precision of the estimated intervention effect.ResultsBetween June 1, 2017 and October 8, 2017, the RF group included 29 women compared with 31 women in the group without RF. There was no significant difference on VAS >4 between the two groups (13.8% vs. 9.7% p = 0.69; difference = 4.1%, 95%CI -12.2%- 20.4%); consumption of paracetamol was lower in the RF group (978.3 mg (sd = 804.5) vs 1703.7 mg (sd = 1381.6), p = 0.035; difference = -725.3 mg, 95%CI -1359.6 - -91.3). Multivariate analysis showed no association between RF and pain. Nevertheless, we found an association between RF and discomfort while walking (adjusted OR 0.24, 95% CI 0.07-0.90; p = 0.03).ConclusionVAS>4 at day 2 was not different in the experimental and the control groups but RF was associated with less perineal discomfort while walking and lower consumption of paracetamol after delivery.Clinical trial registrationsThe study was registered in the Clinical Government trial (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03172286?term=bretelle&rank=2) under the number NCT03172286.

Strain Marseille-P4006T, a Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, non-sporulating, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, was isolated from the vaginal swab of a 45-year-old woman with recurrent bacterial vaginosis. We studied its phenotypic characteristics and sequenced its whole genome. The major fatty acids were C16:0 (48%), C19:1n9 (14%) and C18:0 (11%). The 3 070 142-bp-long genome contains 2855 protein-coding genes and 68 RNAs. Strain Marseille-P4006T exhibited 98.1% 16S rRNA similarity with Lactobacillus farraginis, the closest species phylogenetically. Thus, strain Marseille-P4006 is distinct enough to represent a new species for which we propose the name Lactobacillus raoultii sp. nov. The type strain is Marseille-P4006T. This work highlights the possibility of obtaining peculiar morphologies by adding fumed silica into 80/20 polylactic acid/polyamide11 (PLA/PA11) blends. Two kinds of fumed silica (A200 and trimethoxyoctylsilane modified R805 fumed silica) were dispersed (by twin-screw extrusion, TSE) at a weight amount of 5% in neat PLA, neat PA11 and a 80/20 PLA/PA11 blend. Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) was used to verify this 5 wt % amount. Oscillatory shear rheology tests were conducted on all the formulations: (1) on neat polymer nanocomposites (PLASi5, PLASiR5, PA11Si5, PA11SiR5); and (2) on polymer blend nanocomposites (PLA80Si5 and PLA80SiR5). Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) characterizations and laser granulometry were conducted. Microscopic analysis performed on polymer blend nanocomposites evidenced a localization of A200 silica in the PA11 dispersed phase and R805 silica at the PLA/PA11 interface. Frequency sweep tests on neat polymer nanocomposites revealed a pronounced gel-like behavior for PLASi5 and PA11SiR5, evidencing a high dispersion of A200 in PLA and R805 in PA11. A yield behavior was also evidenced for both PLA80Si5 and PLA80SiR5 blends. For the blend nanocomposites, PA11 dispersed phases were elongated in the presence of A200 silica and a quasi-co-continuous morphology was observed for PLA80Si5, whereas PLA80SiR5 exhibits bridges of silica nanoparticles between the PA11 dispersed phases.

An obligate aerobic, Gram-negative, nonmotile and nonsporulating rod designated Marseille P2517 was isolated from the vaginal flora. We describe its features, annotate the genome and compare it to the closest species. The 16S rRNA analysis shows 93.03% sequence similarity with Weeksella virosa, the phylogenetically closest species. Its genome is 2 434 475 bp long and presents 38.16% G+C. On the basis of these data, it can be considered as a new genus in the Flavobacteriaceae family, for which we proposed the name Vaginella massiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain is Marseille P2517T.

Most infectious diseases are unequally distributed between male and female subjects. This sex dimorphism is confirmed by epidemiologic studies which suggest an increased number of male septic patients, while, due to the class age of septic patients, an overrepresentation of female patients would be expected. Lifestyle, recreational activities, professional exposition and access to care are plausible reasons for this dimorphism. However, biological differences should be carefully considered, particularly the weight of X-linked variability and the role of sex hormones. Animal models clearly show that clinical response to infection is more exuberant in males than in females. This is partly explained by an attenuation of the inflammatory response by female sex hormones. However, the translation from experimental studies to the bedside remains challenging as a result of confounding factors like age, hormone changes and response to treatment. AIM:To assess the factors associated with lower rate of caesarean deliveries in the South of France, based on the characteristics and organisation of the region's 40 maternity facilities and the characteristics of the practitioners in these facilities. METHOD:A retrospective study from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2015. Data were collected by the Mediterranean network and a declarative survey was completed by each maternity facility in the region to study factor which could be associated with lower caesarean rate by univariate and multivariate analysis.
