Abstract: The BaBar detector operated successfully at the PEP-II asymmetric e +e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from 1999 to 2008. This report covers upgrades, operation, and performance of the collider and the detector systems, as well as the trigger, online and offline computing, and aspects of event reconstruction since the beginning of data taking. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the partial branching fractions and mass spectra of the exclusive radiative penguin processes B-->Kpipigamma in the range m(Kpipi)pi(+)pi(-). Using 232 x 10(6) e(+)e(-)-->BB events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage ring, we measure the branching fractions B(B(+)-->K(+)pi(-)pi(+)gamma)=[2.95+/-0.13(stat)+/-0.20(syst)] x 10(-5), B(B(0)-->K(+)pi(-)pi(0)gamma)=[4.07+/-0.22(stat)+/-0.31(syst)] x 10(-5), B(B(0)-->K(0)pi(+)pi(-)gamma)=[1.85+/-0.21(stat)+/-0.12(syst)] x 10(-5), and B(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+)pi(0)gamma)=[4.56+/-0.42(stat)+/-0.31(syst)] x 10(-5).

Abstract: We measure the branching ratios of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays Λc+→ΛK+ and Λc+→Σ0K+ relative to the Cabibbo-favored decay modes Λc+→Λπ+ and Λc+→Σ0π+ to be 0.044±0.004(stat.)±0.003(syst. ) and 0.038±0.005(stat.)±0.003(syst.), respectively. We set an upper limit on the branching ratio at the 90% confidence level for Λc+→ΛK+π+π- of 4.1×10-2 relative to Λc+→Λπ+, and for Λc+→Σ0K+π+π- of 2.0×10-2 relative to Λc+→Σ0π+. We also measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-favored mode Λc+→Σ0π+ relative to Λc+→Λπ+ to be 0.977±0.015(stat.) ±0.051(syst.). This analysis was performed using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 125fb-1 collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. © 2007 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present the results of a search for the decay B0-->tau+tau- in a data sample of (232+/-3)x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays using the BABAR detector. Certain extensions of the standard model predict measurable levels of this otherwise rare decay. We reconstruct fully one neutral B meson and seek evidence for the signal decay in the rest of the event. We find no evidence for signal events and obtain Beta(B0->tau+tau-)

Abstract: We have searched for the decays B0→Ds+a0-, B0→Ds*+a0-, B0→Ds+a2- and B0→Ds*+a2- in a sample of about 230×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We find no evidence for these decays and set upper limits at 90% C.L. on the branching fractions: B(B0→Ds+a0-)

Abstract: We search for the rare leptonic decay B+→τ+ντ in a sample of 232×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the B meson recoiling against the semileptonic decay B-→D*0-ν̄. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B+→τ+ντ)

Abstract: We study the two-body decays of B+/- mesons to K+/- and a charmonium state X(cc) in a sample of 210.5 fb(-1) of data from the BABAR experiment. We perform measurements of absolute branching fractions beta(B+/- --> K+/-X(cc)) using a missing mass technique, and report several new or improved results. In particular, the upper limit beta(B+/- --> K+/- X(3872)) < 3.2 x 10(-4) at 90% C.L. and the inferred lower limit beta(X(3872)J/psipi+ pi-) > 4.2% will help in understanding the nature of the recently discovered X(3872).

Abstract: We analyze the decay B0→KS0π+π- using a sample of 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. A maximum likelihood fit finds the following branching fractions: B(B0→K0π+π-)=(43.0±2.3±2.3) ×10-6,B(B0→f0(→π+π-)K0)=(5.5±0.7±0. 5±0.3)×10-6 and B(B0→K*+π-)=(11.0±1. 5±0.5±0.5)×10-6. For these results, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third (if present) is due to the effect of interference from other resonances. We also measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry in the decay B0→K*+π-, AK*π=-0. 11±0.14±0.05. © 2006 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 226 x 10(6) gamma(4S) --> BB events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the branching fraction for B0 --> D0K+pi-, excluding B0 --> D*-K+, to be beta(B0 --> D0K+pi-) = (88 +/- 15 +/- 9) x 10(-6). We observe B0 --> D0K*(892)0 and B0 --> D2*(2460)-K+ contributions. The ratio of branching fractions beta(B0 --> D*-K+)/beta(B0 --> D*-pi+) = (7.76 +/- 0.34+/-0.29)% is measured separately. The branching fraction for the suppressed mode B0 --> D0K+pi- is beta(B0 --> D0K+pi-) < 19 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the inclusive electron spectrum in B→Xueν decays near the kinematic limit for B→Xceν transitions, using a sample of 88×106 BB̄ pairs recorded by the BABAR detector at the Υ(4S) resonance. Partial branching fraction measurements are performed in five overlapping intervals of the electron momentum; for the interval of 2.0-2.6GeV/c we obtain ΔB(B→Xueν)=(0.572±0. 041stat±0.065syst)×10-3. Combining this result with shape function parameters extracted from BABAR measurements of moments of the inclusive photon spectrum in B→Xsγ decays and moments of the hadron-mass and lepton-energy spectra in B→Xcℓν decays we determine |Vub|=(4.44±0.25exp-0.38SF+0.42±0.22theory)×10-3. Here the first error represents the combined statistical and systematic experimental uncertainties of the partial branching fraction measurement, the second error refers to the uncertainty of the determination of the shape function parameters, and the third error is due to theoretical uncertainties in the QCD calculations. © 2006 The American Physical Society.

In the context of the standard model, these decays are expected to be highly suppressed since they proceed through annihilation of the b and ū quarks in the B- meson. Our results are based on 234×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We find no evidence for these decays, and we set Bayesian 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions B(B-→Ds-)

Abstract: We present a simultaneous measurement of the B̄0 lifetime τB0 and B0B̄0 oscillation frequency Δmd. We use a sample of about 50000 partially reconstructed B̄0→D*+ℓ-ν̄ℓ decays identified with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at SLAC. The flavor of the other B meson in the event is determined from the charge of another high-momentum lepton. The results are τB0=(1.504±0.013(stat)- 0.013+0.018(syst))ps, Δmd=(0.511±0.007(stat)-0.006+0.007(syst))ps- 1. © 2006 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present results of a search for the X(3872) in B0→X(3872)KS0, X(3872)→J/ψπ+π-, improved measurements of B-→X(3872)K-, and a study of the J/ψπ+π- mass region above the X(3872). We measure the branching fractions B(B+ --> K0K+) = (1.5 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.1) x 10(-6)(< 2.4 x 10(-6)) and B(B0 --> K0K0) = [formula: see text], where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also present improved measurements of the charge-averaged branching fraction B(B+ --> K0pi+) = (26.0 +/- 1.3 +/- 1.0) x 10(-6) and CP-violating charge asymmetry A(CP) (K0pi+) = -0.09 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.01), where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract: Data samples corresponding to the isospin-violating decay Ds*+→Ds+π0 and the decays Ds*+→Ds+γ, D*0→D0π0 and D*0→D0γ are reconstructed using 90.4 fb-1 of data recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The following branching ratios are extracted: Γ(Ds*+→Ds+π0)/Γ(Ds*+→Ds+γ)=0. 062±0.005(stat.)±0.006(syst.) and Γ(D*0→D0π0)/ Γ(D*0→D0γ)=1.74±0.02(stat.)±0.13(syst.). Both measurements represent significant improvements over present world averages. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: A search for lepton-flavor and lepton-number violation in the decay of the tau lepton into one charged lepton and two charged hadrons is performed using 221.4 fb(-1) of data collected at an e+e- center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage ring. In all 14 decay modes considered, the observed data are compatible with background expectations, and upper limits are set in the range B(tau-->lhh')

Abstract: Data samples corresponding to the isospin-violating decay Ds*+→Ds+π0 and the decays Ds*+→Ds+γ, D*0→D0π0 and D*0→D0γ are reconstructed using 90.4 fb-1 of data recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The following branching ratios are extracted: Γ(Ds*+→Ds+π0)/Γ(Ds*+→Ds+γ)=0. 062±0.005(stat.)±0.006(syst.) and Γ(D*0→D0π0)/ Γ(D*0→D0γ)=1.74±0.02(stat.)±0.13(syst.). Both measurements represent significant improvements over present world averages. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fractions for the three-body decays B0 --> D(*)-/+K0pi+/- and their resonant submodes B0 --> D(*)-/+K*+/-using a sample of approximately 88 x 10(6) BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric energy storage ring. We measure: B(B0 --> D-/+K0pi+/-) = (4.9 +/- 0.7stat +/- 0.5syst) x 10(-4), B(B0 --> D*-/+K0pi+/-) = (3.0 +/- 0.7stat +/- 0.3syst) x 10(-4), B(B0 --> D-/+K*+/-) = (4.6 +/- 0.6stat +/- 0.5syst) x 10(-4), B(B0 --> D*-/+K*+/-) = (3.2 +/- 0.6stat +/- 0.3syst) x 10(-4). From these measurements we determine the fractions of resonant events to be f(B0 --> D-/+K*+/-) = 0.63 +/- 0.08stat +/- 0.04syst and f(B0 --> D*-/+K*+/-) = 0.72 +/- 0.14stat +/-0.05syst.

Abstract: We present updated measurements of the CP-violating parameters Spipi and Cpipi in B0-->pi+pi- decays. Using a sample of 227x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC, we observe 467+/-33 signal decays and measure Spipi=-0.30+/-0.17(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and Cpipi=-0.09+/-0.15(stat)+/-0.04(syst).

Abstract: We present an updated measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetries and the CP-odd fraction in the decay B0-->D*+D*- using 232x10(6)BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B factory. We determine the CP-odd fraction to be 0.125+/-0.044(stat)+/-0.007(syst). The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters C+ and S+ are determined to be 0.06+/-0.17(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and -0.75+/-0.25(stat)+/-0.03(syst), respectively. The standard model predicts these parameters to be 0 and -sin2beta, respectively, in the absence of penguin amplitude contributions.

Abstract: The branching fraction of the τ-→3h-2h+ντ decay (h=π,K) is measured with the BABAR detector to be (8.56±0.05±0.42) ×10-4, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The observed structure of this decay is significantly different from the phase space prediction, with the ρ resonance playing a strong role. The decay τ-→f1(1285)π-ντ, with the f1(1285) meson decaying to four charged pions, is observed and the branching fraction is measured to be (3.9±0.7±0.5)×10-4. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using a sample of 232×106Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory we study the decay B-→[K+π-]DK*- where the K+π- is either from a Cabibbo-favored D̄0 decay or doubly-suppressed D0 decay. We measure two observables that are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ; the ratio R of the charge-averaged branching fractions for the suppressed and favored decays; and the charge asymmetry A of the suppressed decays: R=0.046±0.031(stat) ±0.008(syst), A=-0.22±0.61(stat)±0.17(syst). © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K±π π±. Using a sample of 226.0±2.5 million BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for both charge-conjugate decays. We present measurements of the corresponding branching fractions and their charge asymmetries that supersede those of previous BABAR analyses. Abstract: Using a sample of 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory in 1999-2004, we study B-→D0K*(892)- decays where K*-→KS0π- and D0→K-π+, K-π+π0, K-π+π+π- (non-CP final states); K+K-, π+π- (CP+ eigenstates); KS0π0, KS0, and KS0ω (CP- eigenstates). We measure four observables that are sensitive to the angle γ of the CKM unitarity triangle; the partial-rate charge asymmetries ACP± and the ratios of the B-decay branching fraction in CP± and non-CP decays RCP±: ACP+=-0.08±0.19(stat)±0.08(syst), ACP-=-0.26±0.40(stat)±0.12(syst), RCP+=1.96±0.40(stat) ±0.11(syst), and RCP-=0.65±0.26(stat)±0.08(syst). © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report the observation of the decay B-→Dπ+π-π0K-, where Dπ+π-π0 indicates a neutral D meson detected in the final state π+π-π0, excluding KS0π0. This doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay chain can be used to measure the CKM phase γ. Using about 229×106 e+e-→BB̄ events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring, we measure the branching fraction B(B-→Dπ+π-π0K-)= (5.5±1.0(stat.)±0.7(syst.))×10-6 and the decay rate asymmetry A(B-→Dπ+π-π0K-)=-0.02±0.16(stat.)±0. 03(syst.) for the full decay chain. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We study initial-state radiation events, e+ e- --> gammaISR pi+ pi- J/psi, with data collected with the BABAR detector. We observe an accumulation of events near 4.26 GeV/c2 in the invariant-mass spectrum of pi+ pi- J/psi. Fits to the mass spectrum indicate that a broad resonance with a mass of about 4.26 GeV/c2 is required to describe the observed structure. The presence of additional narrow resonances cannot be excluded. The fitted width of the broad resonance is 50 to 90 MeV/c2, depending on the fit hypothesis.

Abstract: Using 116.1 fb(-1) of data collected by the BABAR detector, we present an analysis of xi(c)(0) production in B decays and from the cc continuum, with the xi(c)(0) decaying into omega- K+ and xi- pi+ final states. We measure the ratio of branching fractions B(xi(c)(0) --> omega- K+)/B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) spectrum is measured on and 40 MeV below the upsilon(4S) resonance. From these spectra the branching fraction product B(B --> xi(c)(0)X) x B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) is measured to be (2.11 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.25) x 10(-4), and the cross-section product sigma(e+ e- --> xi(c)(0)X) x B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) from the continuum is measured to be (388 +/- 39 +/- 41) fb at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Abstract: We present a first measurement of CP asymmetries in neutral B decays to D+D-, and updated CP asymmetry measurements in decays to D(*+)D- and D(*-)D+. We use fully reconstructed decays collected in a data sample of (232+/-3) x 10(6) gamma(4S)-->BB events in the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We determine the time-dependent asymmetry parameters to be SD(*+)(D-)=-0.54+/-0.35+/-0.07, CD(*+)(D-)=0.09+/-0.25+/-0.06, SD(*-)(D+)=-0.29+/-0.33+/-0.07, CD(*-)(D+)=0.17+/-0.24+/-0.04, SD+(D-)=-0.29+/-0.63+/-0.06, and CD+(D-)=0.11+/-0.35+/-0.06, where in each case the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

Abstract: We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for six B-meson decay modes with an eta or eta(') meson in the final state. The data sample corresponds to 232 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) B Factory at SLAC. We measure the branching fractions (in units of 10(-6)): B(B+ -->eta pi(+))=5.1+/-0.6+/-0.3, B(B+ etaK+)=3.3+/-0.6+/-0.3, B(B0-->etaK0)=1.5+/-0.7+/-0.1 (eta rho(+))=8.4+/-1.9+/-1.1, B(B0-->eta omiga)=1.0+/-0.5+/-0.2 (eta(')pi(+))=4.0+/-0.8+/-0.4, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. For the charged modes we also determine the charge asymmetries, all found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for six B-meson decay modes with an eta or eta(') meson in the final state. The data sample corresponds to 232 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) B Factory at SLAC. We measure the branching fractions (in units of 10(-6)): B(B+ -->eta pi(+))=5.1+/-0.6+/-0.3, B(B+ etaK+)=3.3+/-0.6+/-0.3, B(B0-->etaK0)=1.5+/-0.7+/-0.1 (eta rho(+))=8.4+/-1.9+/-1.1, B(B0-->eta omiga)=1.0+/-0.5+/-0.2 (eta(')pi(+))=4.0+/-0.8+/-0.4, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. For the charged modes we also determine the charge asymmetries, all found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: We present a first measurement of CP asymmetries in neutral B decays to D+D-, and updated CP asymmetry measurements in decays to D(*+)D- and D(*-)D+. We use fully reconstructed decays collected in a data sample of (232+/-3) x 10(6) gamma(4S)-->BB events in the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We determine the time-dependent asymmetry parameters to be SD(*+)(D-)=-0.54+/-0.35+/-0.07, CD(*+)(D-)=0.09+/-0.25+/-0.06, SD(*-)(D+)=-0.29+/-0.33+/-0.07, CD(*-)(D+)=0.17+/-0.24+/-0.04, SD+(D-)=-0.29+/-0.63+/-0.06, and CD+(D-)=0.11+/-0.35+/-0.06, where in each case the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

Abstract: We report on a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase gamma through a Dalitz analysis of neutral D decays to K0(S)pi-pi+ in the processes B+/- -->D*K+/-, D*-->Dpi0, Dgamma. Using a sample of 227 x 10(6) BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure the amplitude ratios r(B)=0.12+/-0.03+/-0.04 and r*(B)=0.17+/-0.10+/-0.03+/-0.03, the relative strong phases delta(B)=(104+/-45(+17+16)(-21-24))degrees and delta*(B)=(-64+/-41(+14)(-12)+/-15) degrees between the amplitudes A(B- -->D*0K-) and A(B- -->D*0)K-), and gamma=(70+/-31(+12+14)(-10-11))degrees. The first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third reflects the Dalitz model uncertainty. The results for the strong and weak phases have a twofold ambiguity.

Abstract: We present a determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vub| based on the analysis of semileptonic B decays from a sample of 88 x 10(6) Gamma(4S) decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- storage ring. Charmless semileptonic B decays are selected using measurements of the electron energy and the invariant mass squared of the electron-neutrino pair. We obtain |Vub| =(3.95 +/- 0.26(+0.58)(-0.42) +/- 0.25) x 10(-3), where the errors represent experimental uncertainties, heavy quark parameter uncertainties, and theoretical uncertainties, respectively.

Abstract: A Dalitz plot analysis of approximately 12500 D0 events reconstructed in the hadronic decay D0→K̄0K+K- is presented. This analysis is based on a data sample of 91.5fb-1 collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage rings at SLAC running at center-of-mass energies on and 40 MeV below the Υ(4S) resonance. The events are selected from e+e-→cc̄ annihilations using the decay D*+→D0π+. The following ratio of branching fractions has been obtained: BR= Γ(D0→K̄0K+K-)Γ(D0→K̄0π+π-)=(15.8±0. 1(stat.)±0.5(syst.))×10-2. Estimates of fractions and phases for resonant and nonresonant contributions to the Dalitz plot are also presented. The a0(980)→K̄K projection has been extracted with little background. A search for CP asymmetries on the Dalitz plot has been performed. © 2005 The American Physical Society.
