Abstract

Exotic-deformation effects in 46Ti nucleus were investigated by analysing the high-energy gamma-ray and the alpha-particle energy spectra. One of the experiments was performed using the charged-particle multi-detector array ICARE together with a large volume (4"x4") BGO detector. The study focused on simultaneous measurement of light charged particles and gamma-rays in coincidence with the evaporation residues. The experimental data show a signature of very large deformations of the compound nucleus in the Jacobi transition region at the highest spins. These results are compared to data from previous experiments performed with the HECTOR array coupled to the EUROBALL array, where it was found that the GDR strength function is highly fragmented, strongly indicating a presence of nuclei with very large deformation., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, Proceedings of the Zakopane Conference on Nuclear Physics, to be published in Acta Phys. Abstract

The 46Ti* compound nucleus, as populated by the fusion-evaporation reaction 27Al+19F at the bombarding energy of E_lab=144 MeV, has been investigated by charged particle spectroscopy using the multidetector array ICARE at the VIVITRON tandem facility of the IReS (Strasbourg). The light charged particles and high-energy gamma-rays from the GDR decay have been measured in coincidence with selected evaporation residues. The CACARIZO code, a Monte Carlo implementation of the statistical-model code CASCADE, has been used to calculate the spectral shapes of evaporated alpha-particles which are compared with the experimental coincident spectra. This comparison indicates the signature of large deformations (possibly superdeformed and hyperdeformed shapes) present in the compound nucleus decay. Abstract

The gamma-ray spectra from the decay of the GDR in the compound nucleus reaction 18O+28Si at bombarding energy of 105 MeV have been measured in an experiment using the EUROBALL IV and HECTOR arrays. The obtained experimental GDR strength function is highly fragmented, with a low energy (10 MeV) component, indicating a presence of a large deformation and Coriolis effects. Abstract

The gamma-rays from the decay of the GDR in 46Ti compound nucleus formed in the 18O+28Si reaction at bombarding energy 105 MeV have been measured in an experiment using a setup consisting of the combined EUROBALL IV, HECTOR and EUCLIDES arrays. A comparison of the extracted GDR lineshape data with the predictions of the thermal shape fluctuation model shows evidence for the Jacobi shape transition in hot 46Ti. Abstract

The gamma-rays following the reaction 105 MeV 18O + 28Si have been measured using the EUROBALL IV, HECTOR and EUCLIDES arrays in order to investigate the predicted Jacobi shape transition. Abstract

The Euroball-IV γ-detector array, equipped with the ancillary charged particle detector array DIAMANT was used to study the residues of the fusion reaction 64Ni ⇒ 128Ba at Ebeam = 255 and 261 MeV, in an attempt to reach the highest anguar momentum and verify the existence of predicted hyperdeformed rotational bands. No discrete hyperdeformed bands were identified, but nevertheless a breakthrough was obtained a systematic search for rotational ridge structure with very large moments of inertia J (2) ≥ 100 ℏ2 MeV(-1), in agreement with theoretical predictions for hyperdeformed shapes. Evidence for hyperdeformiation was obtained by charged particle + γ-ray gating, selectiong triple correlated ridge structures in the continuum of each of the nuclei, 118Te, 124Xe and 124,125Cs. In 7 additional nuclei, rotational ridges were also identified with J(2) = 71-77ℏ2Mev(-1), which most probably correspond to surperdeformed shape. The angular distributions of the emitted charged particles show an excess in forward direction over expectations from pure compound evaporation, which may indicate that in-complete fusion plays an important role in the population of very elongated shapes.

Abstract

In recent attempts to search for exotic shapes, hyperdeformation (HD), and Jacobi transitions in Hf, Ba, Xe, Sn and Nd nuclei, ridge structures presumably originating from nuclei of very elongated shapes have been observed in 126Ba, with Gammasphere (GS) and in 126Xe, with Euroball-IV (EB-IV). After the promising results from GS, a second experiment in 126Ba followed at EB-IV, taking advantage of the use of the BGO Inner Ball (IB) for selecting the highest spins. The decay of the Giant Dipole Resonances (GDR) is also studied, and the analysis in progress. The Quasi-continuum transitions in the Jacobi region, show a significant decrease in energy for both 126Ba and 126Xe, compared to the Thomas-Fermi- and the LSD model predictions. Similar effects were recently found for other nuclei by Ward et al.

Abstract

Recent measurements have been performed at the National Laboratoty of Legnaro using mass-symmetric (400, 500 MeV 64Ni + 68Zn) and mass-asymmetric (250 MeV 16O + 116Sn) entrance channel reactions to form 132Ce compound nucleus at different excitation energies (E*=150, 200 and 200 MeV, respectively). The decay of the composite system has been followed studying the γ-rays and Light Charged Particles (LCP) spectra emitted in coincidence with the Evaporation Residues (ER). In this way the emission mechanism of the LCP, depending on the mass-asymmetry at the entrance channel and on the projectile energy, and the results of the Full Width Half-Maximum (FWHM) of the Giant Dipole Resonance as a function of the nuclear temperature have been studied. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The high-energy and discrete γ-ray spectra, as well as the charged particle angular distribution have been measured in the reaction 105 MeV 18O+28Si using the EUROBALL IV, HECTOR and EUCLIDES arrays in order to investigate the predicted Jacobi shape transition in light nuclei. A comparison of the GDR line shape data with the predictions of the thermal shape fluctuation model, based on the most recent rotating liquid drop LSD calculations, shows evidence for such Jacobi shape transition in hot, rapidly rotating 46Ti. The found narrow low-energy component in the GDR line shape is interpreted as the consequence both of the elongated shape and of the Coriolis effect. © 2004 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The γ-ray emission due to dynamical dipole oscillations during fusion process was measured for the N/Z asymmetric reaction 16O + 116Sn at 8.1 and 15.6 MeV/u. High-energy γ-rays and light charged particles were measured in coincidence with the recoiling residual nuclei. The measured yield of the high-energy γ-rays exceeds that of the thermalized compound nucleus and this extra-yield increases with beam energy. Data are compared with theoretical predictions of a dynamical calculation based on Boltzmann-Nordheim-Vlasov (BNV) model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The 46Ti * compound nucleus, as populated by the fusion-evaporation reaction 27Al + 19F at the bombarding energy of E lab = 144 MeV, has been investigated by charged particle spectroscopy using the multidetector array ICARE at the VIVITRON tandem facility of the IReS (Strasbourg). The light charged particles and high-energy γ-rays from the GDR decay have been measured in coincidence with selected evaporation residues. The CACARIZO code, a Monte Carlo implementation of the statistical-model code CASCADE, has been used to calculate the spectral shapes of evaporated α-particles which are compared with the experimental coincident spectra. This comparison indicates the signature of large deformations (possibly superdeformed and hyperdeformed shapes) present in the compound nucleus decay. The occurrence of the Jacobi shape transition is also discussed in the framework of a newly developed rotating liquid drop model. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Exotic-deformation effects in 46Ti nucleus were investigated by analysing the high-energy γ-ray and the α-particle energy spectra. One of the experiments was performed using the charged-particle multi-detector array ICARE together with a large volume (4 inx4 in) BGO detector. The study focused on simultaneous measurement of light charged particles and γ-rays in coincidence with the evaporation residues. The experimental data show a signature of very large deformations of the compound nucleus in the Jacobi transition region at the highest spins. These results are compared to data from previous experiments performed with the HECTOR array coupled to the EUROBALL array, where it was found that the GDR strength function is highly fragmented, strongly indicating a presence of nuclei with very large deformation. Abstract

International audience; The Euroball-IV \gamma -detector array, equipped with the ancillary charged particle detector array DIAMANT was used to study the residues of the fusion reaction $^{64}$Ni + $^{64}$Ni \Rightarrow $^{128}$Ba at E_{beam} = 255 and 261 MeV, in an attempt to reach the highest angular momentum and verify the existence of predicted hyperdeformed rotational bands. No discrete hyperdeformed bands were identified, but nevertheless a breakthrough was obtained through a systematic search for rotational ridge structures with very large moments of inertia J(2) \ge 100 {\mathchar h}^2 MeV^(-1), in agreement with theoretical predictions for hyperdeformed shapes. Evidence for hyperdeformation was obtained by charged particle + \gamma -ray gating, selecting triple correlated ridge structures in the continuum of each of the nuclei, $^ {118}$Te, $^{124}$Xe and $^{124,125}$Cs. In 7 additional nuclei, rotational ridges were also identified with J(2) = 71--77 {\mathchar h}^2 MeV^(-1), which most probably correspond to superdeformed shape. The angular distributions of the emitted charged particles show an excess in forward direction over expectations from pure compound evaporation, which may indicate that in-complete fusion plays an important role in the population of very elongated shapes.

Abstract

In recent attempts to search for exotic shapes, hyperdeformation (HD), and Jacobi transitions in Hf, Ba, Xe, Sn and Nd nuclei, ridge structures presumably originating from nuclei of very elongated shapes have been observed in 126Ba, with Gammasphere (GS) and in 126Xe, with Euroball-IV (EB-IV). After the promising results from GS, a second experiment in 126Ba followed at EB-IV, taking advantage of the use of the BGO Inner Ball (IB) for selecting the highest spins. The decay of the Giant Dipole Resonances (GDR) is also studied, and the analysis in progress. The Quasi-continuum transitions in the Jacobi region, show a significant decrease in energy for both 126Ba and 126Xe, compared to the Thomas-Fermi- and the LSD model predictions. Similar effects were recently found for other nuclei by Ward et al.

Abstract

The \gamma -ray emission due to dynamical dipole oscillations during fusion process was measured for the N/Z asymmetric reaction 16O + 116Sn at 8.1 and 15.6 MeV/u. High-energy \gamma -rays and light charged particles were measured in coincidence with the recoiling residual nuclei. The measured yield of the high-energy \gamma -rays exceeds that of the thermalized compound nucleus and this extra-yield increases with beam energy. Data are compared with theoretical predictions of a dynamical calculation based on Boltzmann–Nordheim–Vlasov (BNV) model.

Abstract

The measured properties of the Giant Dipole Resonance in hot rotating nuclei are successfully described with the model of thermal fluctuations, even though there are still some open problems especially at very low (T < 1.2MeV), very high (T > 2.5MeV) temperatures and missing data in some mass regions. Recent experimental works have addressed more specific problems regarding the nuclear shape and its behaviour in very particular and delimited phase space regions. In this paper will be discussed new exclusive measurements of the GDR decay in heavy 216Rn nuclei (where the shape of nuclei surviving fission have been probed) and some preliminary data on the 132Ce nuclei at very high excitation energy.

Abstract

The 132Ce compound nucleus was formed in fusion reactions 64Ni + 68Zn and 16O + 116Sn at different excitation energies. High energy gamma-rays have been measured in coincidence with Evaporation Residues (ER) in these reactions. At the same time Light Charged Particles (LCP) were measured with the same gate on ER for all the reactions in order to verify and compare the amount of pre-equilibrium emission using mass-symmetric and mass-asymmetric entrance channels. Results on alpha-particle spectra will be presented together with a moving source fit analysis.

Abstract

The γ-rays following the reaction 105 McV 18O &verbar; 28Si have been measured using the EUROBALL IV, HECTOR and EUCLIDES arrays in order to investigate the predicted Jacobi shape transition. The high-energy &gama;-ray spectrum from the GDR decay indicates the presence of large deformations in the hot 46Ti nucleus, in agreement with new theoretical calculations based on the rotating liquid-drop model. Abstract: The γ-ray emission from the dynamical dipole formed in heavy-ion collisions during the process leading to fusion was measured for the N/Z asymmetric reaction 16O+ 116Sn at beam energies of 8.1 and 15.6 MeV/nucleon. High-energy γ-rays and charged particles were measured in coincidence with the heavy recoiling residual nuclei. The data are compared with those from the N/Z symmetric reaction 64Ni+ 68Zn at bombarding energies of 4.7 and 7.8 MeV/nucleon, leading to the same CN with the same excitation energies as calculated from kinematics. The measured yield of the high-energy γ-rays from the 16O-induced reaction is found to exceed that of the thermalized CN and the excess yield increases with bombarding energy. The data are in rather good agreement with the predictions for the dynamical dipole emission based on the Boltzmann–Nordheim–Vlasov model. In addition, a comparison with existing data in the same mass region is performed to extract information on the dipole moment dependence. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

The γ-ras from the decay of the GDR in the compound nucleus reaction 18O+28Si at bombarding enery of 105 MeV have been measured in an experiment using a setup consisting of the combined EUROBALL IV, HECTOR and EUCLIDES arrays. The shape of the rotating compound nucleus, 46Ti, is expected to undergo the Jacobi transition around spin 28 h̵. A comparison of the GDR lineshape data with the predictions of the thermal shape fluctuation model, based on the most recent rotating liquid drop LSD calculations, shows evidence for such Jacobi shape transition. In addition to the previously found broad structure in the GDR lineshape region at 18–25 MeV caused by large deformations, the presence of a low energy component (around 10 MeV), due to the Coriolis splitting in prolate, well deformed shape has been identified for the first time. Abstract

The gamma decay of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) in the 132Ce compound nucleus with temperature up to approximately 4 MeV has been measured, using the reaction 64Ni + 68Zn at E(beam) = 300, 400, and 500 MeV. The gamma and charged particles measured in coincidence with recoils are consistent with a fully equilibrated compound nucleus emission. The GDR width, obtained with the statistical model analysis, is found to increase almost linearly with temperature. This increase is rather well reproduced within a model including thermal shape fluctuations and the lifetime of the compound nucleus.
