Clinical studies have shown that individuals with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) exhibit alterations in self-related processing but these studies have focused primarily on memory. Few studies in PTSD and SAD have examined self-related processing for the present and future, and no studies have directly compared these processes across these two disorders. Individuals diagnosed with PTSD (n = 21), SAD (n = 21), and healthy controls (n = 21) completed cognitive tasks related to the past, present, and future. Disorder congruent temporal alterations were found across both disorders. Further, regression analyses revealed that trauma-related memories were significantly predicted by future goals related to the trauma, whereas social anxiety-related recall was predicted by current socially anxious self-views. Thus, although self-related processing may be common in PTSD and SAD, those aspects of the self most strongly associated with disorder-congruent recall differ by disorder. Self-alterations may be modifiable and developing a better understanding of past, present, and future self-processing might aid in the development of interventions that target these process.

Contains fulltext : 90755.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access), In this article we explore the links between return migration, belonging and transnationalism among migrants who returned from the Netherlands to northeast Morocco. While transnationalism is commonly discussed from the perspective of a receiving country, this study shows that transnationalism also plays a vital role in reconstructing post-return belonging. Return migration is not simply a matter of ‘going home’, as feelings of belonging need to be renegotiated upon return. While returnees generally feel a strong need to maintain various transnational practices, the meanings they attach to these practices depend on motivations for return, gender and age. For former (male) labour migrants, transnational practices are essential for establishing post-return belonging, whereas such practices are less important for their spouses. Those who returned as children generally feel uprooted, notwithstanding the transnational practices they maintain. The amount of agency migrants are able to exert in the return decision-making process is a key factor in determining the extent to which returnees can create a post-return transnational sense of home.

De resultaten van dit onderzoek geven een indicatie van mogelijke oorzaken van een te hoog dioxinegehalte in biologische eieren. Aanleiding voor dit onderzoek is het voornemen tot het intrekken van de ontheffing voor biologische eieren van de EU-norm voor dioxines in eieren van maximaal 3 pg TEQ/gram eivet. De biologische en scharrelbedrijven hadden tot 10 januari 2004 de tijd gekregen om aan deze norm te voldoen. In het voorjaar van 2004 is de ingangsdatum van deze nieuwe wettelijke norm verschoven naar 1 januari 2005. Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat de meeste, met name grotere bedrijven kunnen voldoen aan de norm. Er lijkt samenhang tussen de positieve status van een bedrijf en de volgende bedrijfsfactoren: de bedrijfsgrootte (het betreft veelal kleine(re) bedrijven), het niet verstrekken van vitamine- en/of andere gezondheidsbevorderende preparaten, het wel verstrekken van groenvoer, en een flinke brand in de omgeving in de afgelopen 10 jaar.

Item does not contain fulltext, BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In interstitial hyperthermia, temperature measurements are mainly performed inside heating applicators, and therefore, give the maximum temperatures of a rather heterogeneous temperature distribution. The problem of how to estimate lesion temperatures using the multi-electrode current-source interstitial hyperthermia (MECS-IHT) system in the brain was studied. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Temperatures were measured within the electrodes and in an extra catheter at the edge of a 4 x 4 x 4.5 cm(3) glioblastoma multiforme resection cavity. From the temperature decays during a power-off period, information was obtained about local maximum and minimum tissue temperatures. The significance of these data was examined through model calculations. RESULTS: Maximum tissue temperatures could be estimated roughly by switching off all electrodes for about 5 s. Model calculations showed that the minimum tissue temperatures near a certain afterloading catheter correspond well with the temperature of the applicator inside, about 1 min after this applicator was switched off. CONCLUSIONS: Although the electrode temperatures read during heating are not suitable to assess the temperature distribution, it is feasible to heat the brain adequately using the MECS-IHT system with extra sensors outside the electrodes and/or application of decay methods.
