Aim Methods Results Conclusions One‐third of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) do not achieve full remission and have high relapse rates even after treatment, leading to increased medical costs and reduced quality of life and health status. The possible specificity of treatment‐resistant depression (TRD) neurobiology is still under investigation, with risk factors such as higher inflammatory markers being identified. Given recent findings on the role of choroid plexus (ChP) in neuroinflammation and hippocampus in treatment response, the aim of the present study was to evaluate inflammatory‐ and trophic‐related differences in these regions along with ventricular volumes among patients with treatment‐sensitive depression (TSD), TRD, and healthy controls (HCs).ChP, hippocampal, and ventricular volumes were assessed in 197 patients with MDD and 58 age‐ and sex‐matched HCs. Volumes were estimated using FreeSurfer 7.2. Treatment resistance status was defined as failure to respond to at least two separate antidepressant treatments. Region of interest volumes were then compared among groups.We found higher ChP volumes in patients with TRD compared with patients with TSD and HCs. Our results also showed lower hippocampal volumes and higher lateral ventricular volumes in TRD compared with both patients without TRD and HCs.These findings corroborate the link between TRD and neuroinflammation, as ChP volume could be considered a putative marker of central immune activity. The lack of significant differences in all of the region of interest volumes between patients with TSD and HCs may highlight the specificity of these features to TRD, possibly providing new insights into the specific neurobiological underpinnings of this condition. Cognitive impairments figure prominently in COVID-19 survivors. Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) improves functional outcomes reducing long-term cognitive deficits in several neurological and psychiatric conditions. Our case-control study investigates the efficacy of a CRT programme administered to COVID-19 survivors in the post-acute phase of the illness. Seventy-three COVID-19 survivors presenting cognitive impairments at one-month follow-up were enrolled. Among them, 15 patients were treated with a two-month CRT programme, and 30 non-treated patients were matched conditional to their baseline cognitive functioning. Cognitive functions were assessed before and after treatment. Depression and quality of life were also evaluated. Mixed model ANOVA revealed a significant effect over time of the CRT programme on global cognitive functioning (F = 4.56, p = 0.039), while no significant effect was observed in the untreated group. We observed a significant effect of the improvement in verbal fluency (χ2 = 7.20, p = 0.007) and executive functions (χ2 = 13.63, p < 0.001) on quality of life. A positive significant correlation was found between depressive symptomatology and verbal fluency (r = −0.35), working memory (r = −0.44), psychomotor coordination (r = −0.42), and executive functions (r = −0.33). Our results could pave the way to a plausible innovative treatment targeting cognitive impairments and ameliorating the quality of life of COVID-19 survivors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bleeding of the branches of a subclavian artery can be a life-threatening condition. Subclavian artery bleeding can lead to tracheal obstruction, hemothorax, respiratory failure, hemorrhagic shock, and death if not diagnosed early and treated promptly. Injury to the subclavian artery occurs in multiple different manners including blunt, penetrating, or iatrogenic trauma. Here we reported two cases of injury of the branches of the right subclavian artery (RSA); one following a central venous catheterization and the other following a thoracic drainage tube placement. Herein we describe two endovascular treatment options used in the management of rupture of a subclavian artery. The proximal tract of the subclavian artery and its main branches is also considered a 'border territory' between interventional vascular radiology and interventional neuroradiology because it gives rise to branches both cervical and to the upper limbs. COVID-19 survivors are at increased risk of persistent psychopathology after the infection. Despite long-term sequelae are an increasing concern, long-term neuropsychiatric consequences remain largely unclear. This cohort study aimed at investigating the psychopathological impact of COVID-19 in Italy one year after infection, outlining the trajectory of symptomatology at one, six-, and twelve-months follow-up. We evaluated 402, 216, and 192 COVID-19 survivors respectively at one, six, and 12 months. A subgroup of 95 patients was evaluated longitudinally both at one, six, and 12 months. Validated self-report questionnaires were administered to assess depression, fatigue, anxiety, and post-traumatic distress. Socio-demographics and setting of care information were gathered for each participant. At six and twelve months, respectively 94 (44%) and 86 (45%) patients self-rated in the clinical range in at least one psychopathological dimension. Pathological fatigue at twelve months was detected in 63 patients (33%). Considering the longitudinal cohort an interaction effect of sex and time was observed for depression (F = 8.63, p < 0.001) and anxiety (F = 5.42, p = 0.005) with males showing a significant increasing trend of symptoms, whereas an opposite course was observed in females. High prevalence of psychiatric sequelae six and 12 months after COVID-19 was reported for the first time. These findings confirm the need to provide integrated multidisciplinary services to properly address long-lasting mental health sequelae of COVID-19 and to treat them with the aim of reducing the disease burden and related years of life lived with disability., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
