Patients were randomized 1:1 to APF530 500 mg subcutaneously (granisetron 10 mg) or ondansetron 0.15 mg/kg intravenously (IV) (≤16 mg); stratification was by planned cisplatin ≥50 mg/m2 (yes/no). Patients were to receive fosaprepitant 150 mg IV and dexamethasone 12 mg IV on day 1, then dexamethasone 8 mg orally once daily on day 2 and twice daily on days 3 and 4. Patients were mostly younger females (APF530 arm, mean age 54.1 years, female, 99.3%; ondansetron arm, 53.8 years, female 98.3%). The primary end point was delayed-phase (>24–120 hours) complete response (CR). Results: APF530 versus ondansetron regimens achieved numerically better CINV control in delayed and overall (0–120 hours) phases for CR, complete control, total response, rescue medication use, and proportion with no nausea. APF530 trends are consistent with the overall population, although not statistically superior given the underpowered AC subgroup analysis. The APF530 regimen in this population was generally well tolerated, with safety comparable to that of the overall population.Conclusion: APF530 plus fosaprepitant and dexamethasone effectively prevented CINV among patients receiving AC-based HEC, a large subgroup in whom CINV control has traditionally been challenging. Physicians must be aware of typical clinical presentations (such as cervicofacial actinomycosis following dental focus of infection, pelvic actinomycosis in women with an intrauterine device, and pulmonary actinomycosis in smokers with poor dental hygiene), but also that actinomycosis may mimic the malignancy process in various anatomical sites. Bacterial cultures and pathology are the cornerstone of diagnosis, but particular conditions are required in order to get the correct diagnosis. Prolonged bacterial cultures in anaerobic conditions are necessary to identify the bacterium and typical microscopic findings include necrosis with yellowish sulfur granules and filamentous Gram-positive fungal-like pathogens. Patients with actinomycosis require prolonged (6- to 12-month) high doses (to facilitate the drug penetration in abscess and in infected tissues) of penicillin G or amoxicillin, but the duration of antimicrobial therapy could probably be shortened to 3 months in patients in whom optimal surgical resection of infected tissues has been performed. Preventive measures, such as reduction of alcohol abuse and improvement of dental hygiene, may limit occurrence of pulmonary, cervicofacial, and central nervous system actinomycosis. Abstract

The present work was inspired by the recent developments in laboratory experiments made on chip, where culturing of multiple cell species was possible. The model is based on coupled reaction-diffusion-transport equations with chemotaxis, and takes into account the interactions among cell populations and the possibility of drug administration for drug testing effects. Our effort was devoted to the development of a simulation tool that is able to reproduce the chemotactic movement and the interactions between different cell species (immune and cancer cells) living in microfluidic chip environment. The main issues faced in this work are the introduction of mass-preserving and positivity-preserving conditions involving the balancing of incoming and outgoing fluxes passing through interfaces between 2D and 1D domains of the chip and the development of mass-preserving and positivity preserving numerical conditions at the external boundaries and at the interfaces between 2D and 1D domains.

6. Combined Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Molecular Dynamics Study of Methane Adsorption in M2(dobdc) Metal-Organic Frameworks

Abstract

We examine the diffusion of methane in the metal-organic frameworks M2(dobdc) (M = Mg, Ni, Zn; dobdc4- = 2,5-dioxido-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) as a function of methane loading through a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance and molecular dynamics simulations. At low gas densities, our results suggest that favorable CH4-CH4 interactions lower the free energy barrier for methane hopping between coordinatively unsaturated metal sites and thus enhance the translational motion of methane down the c-axis. At higher gas densities, CH4-CH4 interactions become more significant, CH4-CH4 collisions become more frequent, and the gas self-diffusion begins to decrease. Finally, we observe that the self-diffusion coefficient of methane is inversely related to the binding energy at the coordinatively unsaturated metal sites, such that diffusion is most rapid in the Zn2(dobdc) framework.

10. Translational and Rotational Motion of C8 Aromatics Adsorbed in Isotropic Porous Media (MOF-5): NMR Studies and MD Simulations

Abstract

We combined nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation to study xylene behavior in MOF-5, probing the effects of adsorbate geometry in a weakly interacting model isotropic metal organic framework (MOF) system. We employed NMR diffusometry and relaxometry techniques at low field (13 MHz) to quantify the self-diffusion coefficients (Ds) and the longitudinal relaxation times (T1) of xylenes in MOF-5 as a function of temperature at the saturated loading for each xylene. These experiments reveal the translational motion activation energies to be 15.3, 19.7, and 21.2 kj mol-1 and the rotational activation energies to be 47.26, 12.88, and 11.55 for the (p-, m-, o-) xylene isomers, respectively. Paraxylene exhibits faster translational motion, yet shows four times the activation energy barrier for rotational motion vis-à-vis the other isomers. MD simulations performed on these model systems corroborate the findings for paraxylene and suggest that paraxylene has the lower free energy barrier for hopping away from its binding sites, yet has the slowest rotational motion in the plane of the xylene molecule.

13. Probing Hamiltonian dynamics by means of the 0-1 test for chaos

Abstract

A recently proposed test for chaos [Gottwald G A and Melbourne I 2004 \textit{Proc. R. Soc. London A} {\bf 460} 603-611] is employed to probe the Hamiltonian dynamics of a one-dimensional anharmonic oscillator lattice. For a homogeneous (uniform mass) lattice in the weakly chaotic regime and for a heavy impurity embedded in the lattice, the results stemming from the time record of the position and momentum of a single oscillator in the former case, and for that same variables corresponding to the impurity in the latter, are inconclusive to determine the dynamical regime of the system. This seemingly odd behavior has its origin in the insufficient time series length employed. Nevertheless, for both cases the necessary time record length needed to obtain the correct result renders the test impractical. In particular, for the second case, specially in the large system size limit (which is the physically relevant one due to its connection with Brownian motion), the estimated length of the position time series required by the test to correctly classify the signal is beyond the reach of present-day computer capability. Abstract

Recent studies on the phase-space dynamics of a one-dimensional Lennard-Jones fluid reveal the existence of regular collective perturbations associated with the smallest positive Lyapunov exponents of the system, called hydrodynamic Lyapunov modes, which previously could only be identified in hard-core fluids. In this work we present a systematic study of the Lyapunov exponents and Lyapunov vectors, i.e. perturbations along each direction of phase space, of a three-dimensional Lennard-Jones fluid. By performing the Fourier transform of the spatial density of the coordinate part of the Lyapunov vector components and then time-averaging this result we find convincing signatures of longitudinal modes, with inconclusive evidence of transverse modes for all studied densities. Furthermore, the longitudinal modes can be more clearly identified for the higher density values. Thus, according to our results, the mixing of modes induced both by the dynamics and the dimensionality induce a hitherto unknown type of order in the tangent space of the model herein studied at high density values., Comment: 28 Pages, 13 b&w Figures

Abstract

The problem of detecting specific features of microscopic dynamics in the macroscopic behavior of a many-degrees-of-freedom system is investigated by analyzing the position and momentum time series of a heavy impurity embedded in a chain of nearest-neighbor anharmonic Fermi-Pasta-Ulam oscillators. Results obtained in a previous work [M. Romero-Bastida, Phys. Rev. E {\bf69}, 056204 (2004)] suggest that the impurity does not contribute significantly to the dynamics of the chain and can be considered as a probe for the dynamics of the system to which the impurity is coupled. The ($r,\tau$) entropy, which measures the amount of information generated by unit time at different scales $\tau$ of time and $r$ of the observable, is numerically computed by methods of nonlinear time-series analysis using the position and momentum signals of the heavy impurity for various values of the energy density $\epsilon$ (energy per degree of freedom) of the system and some values of the impurity mass $M$. 20. Does participation predict support for place brands? An analysis of the relationship between stakeholder involvement and brand citizenship behavior

Abstract

This article studies in how far participation of stakeholders enhances their active support for place brands, conceptualized in this study as Brand Citizenship Behavior (BCB). Combining insights from governance and branding theory this article uses survey data (N = 162) among stakeholders involved in branding processes of two Dutch regions. The analysis shows that more intense participation in the development of the brand is related to more BCB. Beyond participation, perceived value of the brand for stakeholders and degree of place identity (identification with place) also positively relate to brand citizenship behavior. The findings not only confirm the importance of participation in achieving support for public brands, but also provide insight into the role of affective factors (identification) and interest-based factors (value of the brand for the stakeholder) on BCB

Abstract

This article discusses a study that used machine learning to develop a clinical decision support tool for predicting the success of expectant or medical management of miscarriage. The study involved a retrospective analysis of 1075 patients across two hospital early pregnancy units, and 14 clinical variables were collected, including patient demographics, history, and ultrasound features. The study found that the machine learning algorithms performed well in predicting outcomes, with area under the curve (AUC) scores ranging from 0.63 to 0.71. The authors conclude that this method could be used in future clinical trials to provide personalized outcome predictions for patients deciding on their miscarriage management. Abstract

Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 10km. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < -5; meteoroid size ≥∼1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/10km. This value is compatible with previous estimates. Finally, the first meteorite was recovered in Italy (Cavezzo, January 2020) thanks to the PRISMA network, a component of the FRIPON science project., FRIPON was initiated by funding from ANR (grant N.13- BS05-0009-03), carried by the Paris Observatory, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris-Saclay University and Institut Pythéas (LAM-CEREGE).
