[english] The relevance of general medicine at German universities will increase over the next few years. Consequently, the discussion of teaching content and even more the improvement of the structures within the still small and dependent departments of general medicine are of major importance. The example of our department at LMU Munich shows which challenges for leadership and cooperation result from lack of financial and personnel structure. The project “cooperation culture” that the department has conducted in collaboration with the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management is presented as a means to promote leadership and cooperation. This project can serve as an inspiration for the coordinators of smaller departments of general medicine at other German universities that are also striving to improve their structure and their position within the university.[german] Die Bedeutung der Allgemeinmedizin an deutschen Universitäten wird in den nächsten Jahren weiter zunehmen. Umso wichtiger ist die Auseinandersetzung mit Lehrinhalten, aber auch die Verbesserung der Strukturen an den noch nicht ausgebauten Lehrbereichen für Allgemeinmedizin. Am Beispiel des Lehrbereichs Allgemeinmedizin der LMU München wird aufgezeigt, welche Herausforderungen der Führung und Zusammenarbeit aus Mangel an finanziellen und personellen Strukturen resultieren. Das Projekt „Zusammenarbeitskultur“, das der Lehrbereich in Kooperation mit dem LMU Center for Leadership and People Management durchgeführt hat, wird als Maßnahme zur Förderung von Führung und Zusammenarbeit vorgestellt. Dieses Projekt kann als Anregung für die Lehrkoordinatoren der kleineren Bereiche für Allgemeinmedizin anderer deutscher Universitäten dienen, die ebenfalls bestrebt sind, ihre Struktur sowie die Stellung innerhalb der Universität zu verbessern.

Research suggests that the effects of leader narcissism can be complex and context dependent, causing a lack of clarity about the conditions under which leader narcissism affects follower perceptions. We posit that the organizational climate plays an important moderating role in the relationships between leader narcissism, leader self‐serving behaviour and follower trust. Based on trait activation theory, we argue that organizational‐level cues can spark or smother narcissistic leaders' self‐serving behaviour with downstream consequences for followers' trust. Our focus lies on motivational climates in organizations, encompassing both performance climate and mastery climate, as providers of trait‐relevant cues. A multilevel and multisource survey of 546 leaders and 1718 followers supports the hypothesized relationships. We find a negative effect of leader narcissism on trust in the leader via leader self‐serving behaviour when the performance climate is high (vs. low). We also find a negative effect of leader narcissism on trust in the leader via leader self‐serving behaviour when the mastery climate is low (vs. high). We discuss how leader self‐serving behaviour as a quintessential behavioural expression of leader narcissism is sensitive to specific cues from the organizational context, how motivational climates help to inform the understanding of leader narcissism, and the practical implications. Discrimination of malignant and non-malignant cells of histopathologic specimens is a key step in cancer diagnostics. Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) allows the acquisition of spectra in the visual and near-infrared range (500-1000nm). HSI can support the identification and classification of cancer cells using machine learning algorithms. In this work, we tested four classification methods on histopathological slides of esophageal adenocarcinoma. The best results were achieved with a Multi-Layer Perceptron. Sensitivity and F1-Score values of 90% were obtained.

Microgels have a wide range of applications, from catalysis to biomedical applications such as drug delivery in dispersion, or as surface‐attached materials to improve the biocompatibility of implants or as anti‐fouling coatings. The first aim of this work is to understand the morphology of the supramacromolecular, tannic acid (TA) crosslinked microgels using two‐dimensional 1H NMR spectroscopy, and relaxometry. The second aim is to study the volume phase transition (VPT) of TA‐crosslinked microgels with different crosslinker densities in dispersion using NMR. In this context, 1H high‐resolution NMR spectroscopy is used in combination with the two‐state model and the Boltzmann sigmoidal function to determine thermodynamic quantities of the VPT, such as temperature (Tt), width of transition (ΔTt), and change in entropy (ΔS). Third, surface‐deposited microgels are characterized in terms of their VPT using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM‐D) to study the properties of these microgels for applications where they are used as coatings. Finally, the Tt of microgels supramolecular crosslinked with TA are compared with microgels covalently crosslinked with N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide (BIS) in dispersion, using NMR, and deposited on a surface, using QCM‐D. For this purpose temperature‐responsive poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) microgels crosslinked with the plant‐derived polyphenol TA or BIS are used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of efficient and environmentally friendly plant protection systems is one of the major challenges for a sustainable agriculture of the future. Citrus canker caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (X. citri) affects all cultivated citrus species worldwide and is responsible for enormous economic losses and restrictions in international trade. Currently used commercial copper‐based formulations are the origin of contamination for soil and groundwater, affecting local ecosystems and human health. A copper‐free sustainable microgel‐based plant protection system able to efficiently combat X. citri is developed. Microgels decorated with anchor peptides exhibit strong non‐covalent attachment to the surface of orange leaves and have the ability to release hexyl gallate, which inhibits the growth and spreading of pathogens. The tailored design of the microgel network allows high loadings of hexyl gallate (up to 40 wt.%) and a controlled release of gallates from microgels that provide long‐term protection. The antibacterial activity of the hexyl gallate‐loaded microgels is demonstrated by various in vitro assays as well as on orange plants in greenhouse settings. The experimental results suggest that the developed sustainable microgel‐based plant protection system for citrus trees allows efficient abatement of X. citri and reduces environmental pollution caused by copper formulations. Following calls for research to increase gender equality, we investigated women's intentions to pursue career opportunities, in the form of career development programs. We built on lack of fit and signaling theory to argue that women's but not men's pursuit of career opportunities would be influenced by recruiter gender and gender‐stereotypical wording in recruitment advertisements. We conducted two studies in Germany. In Study 1 (video‐based experiment with 329 university students), we found that when a male recruiter used stereotypically masculine compared to feminine wording, female students anticipated lower belongingness, expected lower success of an application, and indicated lower application intentions for career opportunities. These differences in female students' evaluations disappeared when the recruiter was female. While Study 2 (experimental vignette study with 545 employees) replicates the negative effects of masculine wording for female employees; the buffering effect of female recruiters was only replicated for younger, but not for older female employees. Women's anticipated belongingness mediated the relationship between advertisement wording and application intentions when the recruiter was male. Recruiter gender and wording had no effects on men. Our work contributes to a better understanding of when and why contextual characteristics in the recruitment process influence women's pursuit of career opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
