Search

In the recent years, there has been a rush towards highly autonomous systems operating in public environments, such as automated driving of road vehicles, passenger shuttle systems and mobile robots. These systems, operating in unstructured, public real-world environments (the operational design domain can be characterized as open context) per se bear a serious safety risk. The serious safety risk, the complexity of the necessary technical systems, the openness of the operational design domain and the regulatory situation pose a fundamental challenge to the automotive industry. Many different approaches to the validation of autonomous driving functions have been proposed over the course of the last years. However, although partly announced as the solution to the validation challenge, many of the praised approaches leave open crucial parts. To illustrate the contributions as well as the limitations of the individual approaches and providing strategies for 'viable' validation and approval of such systems, the first part of the paper gives an analysis of the fundamental challenges related to the valid design and operation of complex autonomous systems operating in open contexts. In the second part, we formalize the problem statement and provide algorithms for an iterative development and validation. In the last part we give a high level overview of a practical, holistic development process which we refer to as systematic, system view based approach to validation (in short sys2val) and comment on the contributions from ISO26262 and current state of ISO/PAS 21448 (SOTIF).

We report on some ideas concerning the nature of the X(3872) resonance and the need for approximately equal charged and neutral components of $D \bar{D}^* +cc$. Then we discuss how some hidden charm states are obtained from the interaction between vector mesons with charm and can be associated to some of the charmonium-like X,Y,Z states. We report on some recent developments in understanding the nature of the low-lying mesonic resonances $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$, and $K_2^*(1430)$. In particular we show that these five resonances can be dynamically generated from vector meson--vector meson interaction in a coupled-channel unitary approach, which utilizes the phenomenologically very successful hidden-gauge Lagrangians to produce the interaction kernel between two vector mesons, which is then unitarized by the Bethe-Salpeter-equation method. The data on the strong decay branching ratios, total decay widths, and radiative decay widths of these five states, and on related $J/\psi$ decay processes can all be well described by such an approach. We study the radiative decay properties of the charmonium-like X, Y and Z mesons generated dynamically from vector meson-vector meson interaction in the framework of a unitarized hidden-gauge formalism. In the present work we calculate the one- and two-photon decay widths of the hidden-charm Y(3940), Z(3930) (or X(3915)) and X(4160) mesons in the framework of the vector meson dominance formalism. We obtain good agreement with experiment in case of the two photon width of the X(3915) which we associate with the $2^+$ resonance that we find at 3922 MeV., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures

We study the mass spectrum and decay constants of light and heavy mesons in a soft-wall holographic approach, using the correspondence of string theory in Anti-de Sitter space and conformal field theory in physical space-time., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures

We discuss the two-photon decay width of heavy hadron molecules and study the dependence on the constituent meson masses and on the binding energy. In addition finite size effects due to the extended structure of the bound state are shown to have a strong influence on the predictions for this decay width., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We study the $Z^\pm(4430)$ meson within a heavy hadron molecule interpretation where the $Z$ is considered as a bound state of a vector $D^\ast(2010)$ and an axial-vector $D_1(2420)$. We give predictions for the strong hidden-charm $Z^\pm(4430) \to \pi^\pm \psi$ and $\pi^\pm\psi^\prime$ decay widths and also study the radiative $Z^\pm\;(J^P=1^-) \to \pi^\pm\gamma$ decay properties in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. Our findings are qualitatively in line with the experimental observation that the $\pi^\pm\psi^\prime$ transition dominates over the $\pi^\pm\psi$ decay mode despite a smaller phase space. The width for the radiative mode $\pi^\pm\gamma$ is sizable, allowing possible detection in future experiments., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, matches published version

We study flavor-conserving radiative decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit. In this manuscript we study the vector - vector interaction within the hidden gauge formalism in a coupled channel unitary approach. In the sector $C=1,S=1,J=2$ we get a pole in the T-matrix around $2572$ MeV that we identify with the $D^*_{s2}(2573)$, coupling strongly to the $D^*K^*$($D^*_s\phi$($\omega$)) channels. In addition we obtain resonances in other exotic sectors which have not been studied before such as $C=1,S=-1$, $C=2,S=0$ and $C=2,S=1$. This 'flavor-exotic' states are interpreted as $D^*\bar{K^*}$, $D^*D^*$ and $D^*_sD^*$ molecular states but have not been observed yet. In total we obtain nine states with different spin, isospin, charm and strangeness of non $C=0,S=0$ and $C=1,S=0$ character, which have been reported before.

We discuss the light-front wave function for the valence quark state of mesons using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In the present article we report on evidence for hadronic molecule structures in the charmonium sector. In particular we discuss the Y(3940) and the recently observed Y(4140) as heavy hadron molecule states with quantum numbers $J^{PC} = 0^{++}$ or $2^{++}$. The Y(3940) state is considered to be a superposition of $D^{\ast +}D^{\ast -}$ and $D^{\ast 0} \overline{D^{\ast 0}}$, while the Y(4140) is a bound state of $D_s^{\ast +}$ and $D_s^{\ast -}$ mesons. We give predictions for both the strong Y(3940) to J/psi omega, Y(4140) to J/psi phi and radiative Y(3940)/Y(4140) to gamma gamma decay widths in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. The results for the strong hidden charm decay modes clearly support the molecular interpretation of the Y(3940) and Y(4140), while our estimates for the radiative decays provide a sensitive test for the underlying meson structure of the two Y mesons discussed here. The alternative assignment of $J^{PC} = 2^{++}$ is also tested, giving similar results for the strong decay widths., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. We discuss a possible interpretation of the open charm mesons $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D_{s1}(2460)$ and the hidden charm mesons X(3872), Y(3940) and Y(4140) as hadron molecules. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we review the strong and radiative decays of the $D_{s0}^* (2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ states. The X(3872) is assumed to consist dominantly of molecular hadronic components with an additional small admixture of a charmonium configuration. Determing the radiative ($\gamma J/\psi$ and $\gamma \psi(2s)$) and strong ($J/\psi 2\pi $ and $ J/\psi 3\pi$) decay modes we show that present experimental observation is consistent with the molecular structure assumption of the X(3872). Finally we give evidence for molecular interpretations of the Y(3940) and Y(4140) related to the observed strong decay modes $J/\psi + \omega$ or $J/\psi + \phi$, respectively., Comment: 6 pages, Plenary talk given at the 5-th Int. We refine the relativistic constituent quark model developed in our previous papers to include the confinement of quarks. It is done, first, by introducing the scale integration in the space of alpha-parameters, and, second, by cutting this scale integration on the upper limit which corresponds to an infrared cutoff. In this manner one removes all possible thresholds presented in the initial quark diagram. The cutoff parameter is taken to be the same for all physical processes. We adjust other model parameters by fitting the calculated quantities of the basic physical processes to available experimental data. As an application, we calculate the electromagnetic form factors of the pion and the transition form factors of the omega and eta Dalitz decays., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. We calculate the radiative decay widths, two-photon ($\gamma\gamma$) and one photon-one vector meson ($V\gamma$), of the dynamically generated resonances from vector meson-vector meson interaction in a unitary approach based on the hidden-gauge Lagrangians. In the present paper we consider the following dynamically generated resonances: $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$, $K^*_2(1430)$, two strangeness=0 and isospin=1 states, and two strangeness=1 and isospin=1/2 states. For the $f_0(1370)$ and $f_2(1270)$ we reproduce the previous results for the two-photon decay widths and further calculate their one photon-one vector decay widths. For the $f_0(1710)$ and $f_2'(1525)$ the calculated two-photon decay widths are found to be consistent with data. The $\rho^0\gamma$, $\omega\gamma$ and $\phi\gamma$ decay widths of the $f_0(1370)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f'_2(1525)$ are compared with the results predicted by other approaches. The $K^{*+}\gamma$ and $K^{*0}\gamma$ decay rates of the $K^*_2(1430)$ are also calculated and compared with the results obtained in the framework of the covariant oscillator quark model. The results for the two states with strangeness=0, isospin=1 and two states with strangeness=1, isospin=1/2 are predictions that need to be tested by future experiments., Comment: More discussions about the relation between qqbar states and dynamically generated states; version published in PRD.

The atomic and electronic structures of the (001)-Si/(001)-gamma-Al2O3 heterointerface are investigated by first principles total energy calculations combined with a newly developed "modified basin-hopping" method. It is found that all interface Si atoms are fourfold coordinated due to the formation of Si-O and unexpected covalent Si-Al bonds in the new abrupt interface model. And the interface has perfect electronic properties in that the unpassivated interface has a large LDA band gap and no gap levels. These results show that it is possible to have clean semiconductor-oxide interfaces.

We discuss the hadronic molecule issue in the light and heavy meson sector. Thereby we use the radiative decays of the scalars f0(980) and a0(980) to study its possible molecular K barK structure. We report on further evidence that the Y(3940) and the recently observed Y(4140) are heavy hadron molecule states with quantum numbers J(PC) = 0(++). The Y(3940) state is considered to be a superposition of D*(+)D*(-) and D*(0) barD*(0), while the Y(4140) is a bound state of Ds*(+) and Ds*(-) mesons. For the first time we give predictions for the strong Y(3940) to Jpsi omega, Y(4140) to Jpsi phi and radiative Y(3940)/Y(4140) to gamma gamma decay widths in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. Results for the strong Jpsi V (V = omega, phi) decays clearly support the molecular interpretation of the Y(3940) and Y(4140)., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures

We study weak decays of the charm- and bottom-strange mesons Ds0*(2317), Ds1(2460), Bs0*(5725) and Bs1(5778) with f0(980) in the final state by assuming a hadronic molecule interpretation for their structures. Since in the proposed framework the initial and final states are occupied by hadronic molecules, the predictions for observables can provide a sensitive tool to further test the hadronic molecule structure in future experiments., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. We analyze the electromagnetic and strong decay properties of the light scalars a0(980) and f0(980) within a hadronic molecule interpretation. Both scalars are discussed within a covariant and gauge invariant model which also allows for finite size effects due to their spatially extended structure in the K Kbar-bound state picture. Allowing for f0-a0 mixing we also study its influence on the radiative decays f0/a0 to gamma gamma, f0/a0 to gamma omega, and f0/a0 to gamma rho as well as the phi production of the f0 and a0. We discuss a possible interpretation of the f0(980) meson as a hadronic molecule - a bound state of K and bar K mesons. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we calculate the strong f0(980) to pi pi and electromagnetic f0(980) to gamma gamma decays. The compositeness condition provides a self-consistent method to determine the coupling constant between f0 and its constituents, K and bar K. Form factors governing the decays of the f0(980) are calculated by evaluating the kaon loop integrals. The predicted f0(980) to pi pi and f0(980) to gamma gamma decay widths are in good agreement with available data and results of other theoretical approaches., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, revised version accepted for publication in Eur. We locate putative global minima for (C_60)_N clusters modelled by the potential of Pacheco and Prates-Ramalho up to N=105. These minima are based on icosahedral packing up to N=15, but above this size the lowest-energy structures are decahedral or close-packed. Although structures based on the 98-molecule Leary tetrahedron, which have been inferred from experiment, are not lowest in energy for this potential, an examination of the energetics of a growth sequence leading to the Leary tetrahedron lends further support to the experimental assignments. An analysis of the potential energy surface topography and the thermodynamics of two example clusters indicates that the multiple-funnel topography is likely to have a strong influence on the dynamics of structure formation and that solid-solid transitions driven by differences in vibrational entropy are likely to be common., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures
