Background: Endometritis is a prevalent and challenging condition that affects livestock, and its effective treatment is the use of intrauterine antibiotics. Antibiotic use may lead to negative consequences, including residue in tissues and the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic potential of ozonated bidistilled water in the treatment of Escherichia coli‐induced endometritis in rat models, comparing it to conventional antibiotic treatment. Methods: A total of 21 female Wistar Albino rats were used for this study. E. coli from the uterus of cows with endometritis at a concentration of 1.0 × 109 cfu/mL inoculated into rat uteruses. After inoculation, it was confirmed macroscopically that experimental endometritis was induced in all individuals. And, the rats with endometritis were randomly divided into three groups treated with intrauterine bidistilled water enriched with ozone, antibiotics and 0.9% NaCl. The uterine tissues were examined histopathologically. Results: In the semiquantitative analyses, significantly lower histopathological scores were observed for both the bidistilled water enriched with ozone and antibiotic‐treated endometritis groups compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Ozone‐enriched bidistilled water can be used in the treatment of experimentally induced endometritis in rats, and can provide effective microbiological and histopathological improvement. Further studies involving larger populations of different species are needed to determine the medical suitability of this new treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

8. Investigación de la efectividad de varios métodos de tratamiento en cabras con papilomatosis cutánea

Objective. This study investigated the recovery effects of levamisole, Tarantula cubensis extract, and levamisole + T. cubensis extract combination on goats with cutaneous papillomatosis. Materials and Methods. Forty hair goats between 2 and 4 years of age in the lactation period, which were clinically diagnosed as having papillomatosis, were included in the study, and they were divided into four groups randomly, each having ten goats. No application was performed on goats in the control group. Levamisole (5 mg/kg, intramuscularly), T. cubensis extract (4 ml, subcutaneously), and both levamisole (5 mg/kg, intramuscularly) and T. cubensis extract (4 mL, subcutaneously) were administered to the goats in the levamisole group, T. cubensis extract group, and combined group, respectively, two times at weekly intervals. All animals in the groups were monitored at 15-day intervals for three months. Results. While no recovery was observed in the control group, regression was observed in only one animal’s papilloma (10%). The recovery and regression rates were 40% and 40% in the levamisole group, 30% and 40% in the T. cubensis extract group, and 60% and 30% in the combined group, respectively. Conclusions. All three treatments applied in goats for treating cutaneous papillomatosis were found to be effective in different degrees. When compared between treatment groups, levamisole+T. cubensis extract combination was found to be a more effective treatment., Objetivo. Este estudio investigó los efectos de recuperación del levamisol, el extracto de Tarantula cubensis y la combinación de levamisol+extracto de T. cubensis en cabras con papilomatosis cutánea. Materiales y métodos. Se incluyeron en el estudio cuarenta cabras de pelo entre 2 y 4 años de edad en período de lactancia, que fueron diagnosticadas clínicamente de papilomatosis, y se dividieron en cuatro grupos aleatoriamente, cada uno con diez cabras. No se realizó ninguna aplicación en cabras en el grupo de control. Se administraron levamisol (5mg/kg, por vía intramuscular), extracto de T.cubensis (4ml, por vía subcutánea) y levamisol (5mg/kg, por vía intramuscular) y extracto de T.cubensis (4ml, por vía subcutánea) a las cabras en el grupo de levamisol, grupo de extracto de T. cubensis y grupo combinado, respectivamente, dos veces a intervalos semanales. Todos los animales de los grupos se controlaron a intervalos de 15 días durante tres meses. Resultados. Si bien no se observó recuperación en el grupo de control, se observó regresión en solo el papiloma de un animal (10%). Las tasas de recuperación y regresión fueron 40% y 40% en el grupo de levamisol, 30% y 40% en el grupo de extracto de T. cubensis y 60% y 30% en el grupo combinado, respectivamente. Conclusiones. Se encontró que los tres tratamientos aplicados en cabras para tratar la papilomatosis cutánea eran efectivos en diferentes grados. Cuando se comparó entre los grupos de tratamiento, se encontró que la combinación de extracto de levamisol+T. cubensis era un tratamiento más efectivo.

BACKGROUND: Epidural fibrosis is a challenging topic in spinal surgery. This phenomenon constitutes one of the main reasons behind postlaminectomy syndrome or failed back surgery syndrome, which leads to persistent back and leg pain in association with compression and/or stretching the nerve root or the dura. The exact mechanism of action in epidural fibrosis is complex and remains uncertain. Excessive deposition of collagen, fibronectin, and dermatan sulfate, known as the "extracellular matrix," and decrease of tissue cellularity results in epidural fibrosis. The most investigated and important actor in epidural fibrosis as well as in other forms of aberrant wound healing is presumed to be transforming growth factor-1 beta formation. Tamoxifen (TAM), a synthetic nonsteroidal antiestrogen used in breast cancer, is also effective in inhibiting fibroblast proliferation via downregulation of transforming growth factor-1 beta. METHODS: Twenty-four adult male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups. Laminectomy was the sole intervention in the control group. Spongostan was placed in the operation lodge after laminectomy in the second group. In the treatment group, TAM was administrated orally after laminectomy. Epidural fibrosis, dural thickness, inflammatory response, and arachnoidal involvement were evaluated and graded histopathologically. RESULTS: Epidural fibrosis, dural thickness, and inflammatory response in the subjects treated with TAM were significantly less than in the control and Spongostan group and the differences were statistically significant. Although arachnoidal involvement was observed in a subject in the TAM group, the differences between all groups weren't statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Tamoxifen reduced epidural fibrosis, dural thickness, and inflammatory response after laminectomy in rats.

- Abstract
Aim: to examine the implantation of chitosan channels stuffed with mesenchyme-originated stem/progenitor cells (MSPCs) derived from adult rats in a spinal cord transection model. The level of axonal regeneration, the effect of chitosan channels on the survival of MSPCs, and the functional recovery results were also evaluated. Material and methods: chitosan channels stuffed with MSPCs were implanted at the level of T8 in a transected rat spinal cord. MSPCs were harvested from the pelvic bone marrow of adult rats, and the MSPC-chitosan channel group was compared with three control groups. The axonal regeneration capacity, the effect of chitosan channels on the survival of MSPCs, and the functional recovery results were compared among four groups. The survival of MSPCs was evaluated using histopathological techniques and electron microscopy, axonal regeneration/germination was evaluated by confocal microscopy, and locomotor function was assessed for 4 weeks using the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan locomotor score. Results: the MSPC-chitosan channel group exhibited enhanced survival of transplanted MSPCs compared with MSPCs transplanted directly into the lesion cavity, although no significant difference was detected in locomotor function between the treatment and control groups. The MSPC-chitosan channel group demonstrated thicker myelination of axons than the other groups. Conclusion: chitosan channels promoted the survival of transplanted MSPCs and created a tissue bridge after complete spinal cord transection. They also induced axonal regeneration and germination. This study aimed to compare the differences in the metabolic status of grazing ewes with live and stillbirth lambs for which no etiological infectious agent could be isolated. Group 1 (live and stillbirth lambs) and group 2 (live lambs) consisted of 20 multiparous Sakiz ewes. Blood samples were collected two times on the parturition day and the day fifteenth after parturition. In the first sampling time, triglyceride levels of group 2 were determined significantly (p<0.001) higher than group 1. In the second sampling time, levels of magnesium (p<0.05), total protein (p<0.01), cholesterol (p<0.01), and triglyceride (p<0.05) levels were found significantly higher in group 2 than group 1. However, significant decreases were observed in both calcium and triglyceride levels in group 2 between the two sampling times. The beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) (p<0.05) levels were found significantly higher in the second sampling time than in the first sampling time only in group 1. Unlike the BHBA levels, a significant decrease was determined in both cholesterol and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels (p<0.05) in group 1 as the lactation progressed. Finally, we concluded that the metabolic status of group 2 is better than group 1, and it is important to the evaluation and follow-up of the metabolism in ewes with stillbirth without any etiological diagnosis that couldn't be determined. 20. Investigation of the effectiveness of mastitis vaccines in dairy goats

Bu çalışma, mastitislerden korunmak amacıyla kullanılan farklı bakterin aşıların Saanen keçilerinde etkinliklerinin araştırılması amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışma materyali olarak 1-2 yaşlarında, doğumları toplulaştırılmış, 142 dişi Saanen keçisi kullanıldı. Keçilerin seçiminde; daha önce gebelik geçirmemiş olmalarına, geçmişinde herhangi bir nedenle meme enfeksiyonu bulundurmamalarına dikkat edildi.Meme sekresyon örneklerinde etken izole edilmeyen 115 baş keçi rastgele 4 gruba ayrıldı. Bu gruplardan üçü aşı grubu, bir tanesi ise kontrol grubu olarak belirlendi. Aşı gruplarında Startvac® (SV), Lysgin® (LYS), Vimco® (VC) ticari isimli üç farklı aşı kullanıldı. Startvac® ve Lysigin® aşıları için hedef tür inek ve düvelerken, Vimco® aşısı için hedef tür koyun ve keçilerdir. Tüm gruplarda meme sekresyon örnekleri doğum zamanından ortalama 10-30 gün önce; süt örnekleri ise doğum zamanında ve doğumdan sonra 1 aylık periyotlar halinde 5 ay boyunca toplandı. Doğum zamanında alınan süt örneklerinde sadece bakteriyolojik ve mikolojik kültür, diğer tüm aylarda ise bakteriyolojik ve mikolojik kültür yanında somatik hücre sayımı yapıldı. Çalışma sürecinde gruplarda klinik mastitis görülen hasta keçiler kayıt edilerek tedaviye alındı veya vakanın durumuna göre sürüden çıkartıldı. Aylara, mikroorganizmalara ve farklı mastitis parametrelerine göre elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizleri yapıldı. Mastitise yönelik uygulanan farklı bakterin aşıların, subklinik ve klinik mastitis görülme oranlarını, yeni enfeksiyon görülme oranlarını, kronik enfeksiyon görülme oranlarını ve mastitis nedeniyle sürüden çıkarılma oranlarını azaltabileceği, enfeksiyonların şiddetini ve somatik hücre sayısını düşürebileceği ayrıca spontan tedavi oranlarını da arttırabileceği tespit edildi. Çalışma süresince tüm gruplarda en fazla oranda KNS izole edilirken, mastitis görülme oranının ve somatik hücre sayısının kontrol grubuna göre SV ve VC grubunda istatistiksel olarak önemli oranda azaldığı saptandı. Aşıların, KNS ve S. aureus gibi en çok izole edilen spesifik etkenlerin insidensine ve spontan iyileşme oranlarına yönelik etkisi ise yeterli düzeyde bulunamadı.Bu çalışma sonucunda keçilerde mastitislerden korunmak amacıyla yapılan mastitis aşılarının enfeksiyon oranlarını tamamen düşürmediği fakat mastitis kontrol programları ile birlikte uygulanacak olan aşıların mastitis görülme oranlarını sınırlandırabileceği ve süt somatik hücre sayısını etkili şekilde düşürebileceği görülmüştür. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of different bacterial vaccines in Saanen goats used to prevent mastitis. The material of this study consisted of 142 female Saanen goats, 1-2 years old, whose births were aggregated. In the selection of goats; care was taken to ensure that they had not given birth before and had not previously mammary infection for any reason.In mammary secretion without microorganism, 115 goats were divided into four groups randomly. While the three of these groups were determined as a vaccine group and the other one as a control group. Three different commercial vaccines, Startvac® (SV), Lysgin® (LYS) and Vimco® (VC) were used in vaccine groups. While the target species for Startvac® and Lysigin® vaccines are cows and heifers, the target species for Vimco® vaccine are sheep and goats. In all groups, mammary secretion samples were collected on average 10-30 days prior birth, and milk samples were collected at birth time and monthly for 5 month after births. While only bacteriological and mycological cultures were performed in the milk samples taken at birth, bacteriological and mycological cultures and also somatic cell count was performed in the other months. During the study period, the patient goats that had clinical mastitis were registered and treated; or were removed from the herd according to the patient's condition. The data obtained in accordance with months, microorganisms, and different mastitis parameters were analysed statistically. It has been determined that different mastitis vaccines application can reduce the subclinical and clinical mastitis incidence, the new infection rates, the chronic infection rates and the culling rates due to mastitis and decrease the infection severity and the somatic cell count, also increase the spontaneous treatment rates. During the study, while the CNS was detected at the highest rate in all groups, mastitis incidence and somatic cell counts decreased significantly in SV and VC group compared to the control group. The effects of vaccines on the incidence of the most isolated specific microorganisms such as CNS and S. aureus and spontaneous recovery rates were not found to be sufficient.As a result of this study, it has been shown that mastitis vaccines used to prevent mastitis in goats do not completely reduce infection rates, but vaccines that will be applied together with mastitis control programs may limit the mastitis rates and can effectively decrease the somatic cell count. 136

Dünyada iklim değişikliği ve kuraklığın etkisiyle alternatif su kaynaklarına olan talep hızlı bir şekilde artmıştır. Son yıllarda birçok ülke, deniz suyundan tuz giderme yöntemiyle tatlı su elde etmeye başlamıştır. Ters osmoz (RO) sistemi ile deniz suyundan içme suyu elde edilirken diğer yandan % 40-60 oranında RO sisteminin bir çıktısı olarak konsantre tuzlu su akımı oluşmaktadır. Söz konusu konsantre akımın uygun şekilde bertaraf edilmesi önem arz etmektedir.Bu çalışmada, Muğla İli Bodrum İlçesinde deniz suyundan içme ve kullanma suyu üretimi yapan 3 adet RO sistemi incelenerek bu tesislerin konsantre akımlarının deşarj edildiği deniz ortamındaki konsantrasyon dağılımları Amerika Birleşik Devletleri (ABD) Çevre Koruma Ajansı (EPA) tarafından geliştirilen Visual Plumes (VP) paket programı ile modellenmiştir. Bu program ile karışım bölgesi seyrelme karakteristiği ve geometrisi üzerinde durularak deniz ortamına deşarj edilen konsantre akımın deniz suyundaki dağılım davranışı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmalarda deşarj edilen konsantre tuzlu suların Çevre ve Şehircilik Bakanlığı (ÇŞB) tarafından belirlenmiş tuzluluk değeri seyrelme kriterleri olan 50 metre yarıçaplı dairesel alan sınırda seyrelme sağlanarak tuzluluk artışının 2 ppt sınır değerini aşmadığı, ayrıca yakın alan bölgesinde meydana gelen seyrelme ile Akdeniz endemiği olan Posidonia Oceanica (L.) Delile'nin olumsuz etkilendiği 39 psu tuzluluk konsantrasyonu sınır değerinin altında konsantrasyonlara kadar seyreldiği tespit edilmiştir. With the effect of climate change and drought in the world, demand for alternative water resources has increased rapidly. In recent years, many countries have started to obtain fresh water by using desalination technique from seawater. While the reverse osmosis (RO) system obtains drinking water from seawater, on the other hand, concentrated saline flow forms as an output of 40-60 % RO system. It is important that the concentrate is properly disposed of.In this study, 3 RO systems that produce drinking water from marine water in Muğla, Bodrum basin were investigated and concentration distributions in the sea environment where the concentrate currents of these facilities were discharged were measured using the Visual Plumes (VP) package developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program. With this program, the distribution behavior of the concentrated current, which is discharged to the sea environment, has been revealed by focusing on the dilution characterization and geometry of the mixing zone.Concentrated saline wastewater discharged during the studies was diluted in the 50 m radius circular area defined by Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MOEF), and the salinity increase did not exceed the 2 ppt limit value, and the positive ending of the Mediterranean endemic species Posidonia Oceanica (L.) Delile it was found that the 39 psu salinity concentration negatively influenced by concentrations was below the limit value. 115

ÖZETBOZKURT Gökhan, Ceza Muhakemesi Hukukunda İletişimin Denetlenmesi, Yüksek Lisans Tezi, İstanbul, 2010.Teknolojinin hızla gelişmesiyle suçlu ve suçlulukla mücadelede önemli aşamalar kat edilmiş, ancak bu gelişmelere paralel olarak temel hak ve hürriyetlerin korunması hususu da devletlerin gündeminde ilk sıralarda yerini almıştır. Teknolojinin gelişimiyle birlikte suçların aydınlatılmasında başvurulan en önemli araç, iletişimin denetlenmesi olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. İletişim birden fazla kişi tarafından yapılacağından, suçlunun yanında asıl da önemlisi masum kişilerin haberleşme hürriyetleri tehlike altında kalmıştır. Yani suçlunun yanında, suçla hiçbir bağlantısı bulunmayan masum kişilerin de iletişimlerine tedbir uygulanmaktadır.Oysaki maddi gerçeğe ulaşmak için bireysel ve toplumsal değerlere zarar verilmemelidir. Bu durum, kamusal makamların hukuk devleti ilkelerinden taviz vermemeleri ile sağlanabilir. Bunun da yolu kapsamı açıkça belirli, öngörülebilir ve hukuki denetime ayrıntılı yer veren kanuni düzenlemelerden geçmektedir. Türk hukukunda adli amaçlı iletişimin denetlenmesi tedbiri 5271 sayılı Ceza Muhakemesi Kanunu ile önleme amaçlı iletişimin denetlenmesi tedbiri ise 5397 sayılı Kanunla düzenlenmiştir. Söz konusu kanunlar çağdaş hukuk normları ile kıyaslandığında her iki kanunun da önemli eksikliklerinin bulunduğu söylenebilir. Esasen demokratik kurumların korunmasına hasredilen iletişimin denetlenmesi tedbiri, öncelikle suç örgütlerine karşı kullanılmalıdır. Ancak suç örgütü üyelerinin ya telefonu hiç kullanmadığı ya da telefonda kodlu konuştukları göz önünde tutulduğunda, iletişimin denetlenmesi tedbirinin suçlularla mücadelede yeterli etkinliğe sahip olmadığı anlaşılmaktadır. İletişimin denetlenmesi tedbirinin uygulanmasında ısrar edilmesi durumunda, belirtelim ki tedbirler arasında suni farklılıklar yaratıp farklı uygulama koşulları ileri sürülmemelidir. Söz konusu tedbir, ancak katalog suçlarla sınırlı olarak kuvvetli suç şüphesini gerektirecek delillere ulaşıldıktan sonra, başka suretle delil elde edilemeyecekse başvurulabilmelidir. Savunma ve susma hakkının zarar görmemesi için tanıklıktan çekinebilecek kişilerin yanında, daha da önemlisi aralarında müdafilik ilişkisi bulunmasa da kişinin hiçbir avukatla yaptığı iletişim denetlenmemelidir. The development of lighting technology with the crime reference the most important tool of communication has emerged as the inspection. So the offenders as well as accusations of innocent people without any connection to the communication measures are implemented. Whereas for the real financial achieve should not be damaged individual and social values. This law states may be provided by not compromising on principles by public authorities. This is clearly part of the way of specific, predictable and legal control of legislation passed which is detailed in. Turkey in the criminal law measures for controlling communication with the Code of Criminal Procedure No. 5271 for the purpose of preventing the communication of the inspection measures was regulated by the Law No. 5397. Laws in question both compared with contemporary legal norms of the law where it can be said of the major shortcomings. In fact, democratic institutions, protection of the inspection measures longing for the communication, should be used primarily against crime. However, members of criminal organizations or phone, or not used at all considering they are talking on the phone with code, it is understood that the communication with the inspection measures in the fight against the criminals do not have enough activity. Supervising the implementation of communication measures, insisting in the case, let's specify the measures that create differences between the artificial and different application conditions should not be put forward. These measures, but the catalog is limited to crimes that require a strong evidence to suspect a crime has been reached, otherwise the evidence obtained must be admitted. Defense of the right to silence and to avoid damage from the testimony of people who can pull the next, more importantly, not have relationships between the defender of the people that no lawyer should not communicate audit. Erişkin beyin ve omurilikten izole edilen nöral kaynaklı kök hücreler değişik derecelerde aksonal rejenerasyon ve fonksiyonel iyileşme ile sonuçlanan deneysel hayvan modellerinde hasarlı omurilik içerisine transplante edilmiştir. Herşeye rağmen nöral kök hücrelerin transplantasyon sonrası yaşamda kalma özelliklerinin iyi olmaması omurilik yaralanmalarının onarımında hücre tedavilerinin geliştirilmesinde büyük bir sorun olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Hasarlı omurilik içerisinde gelişen kaviteyi yeniden inşa etmek ya da köprülemek, aksonal yeniden gelişimi ve filizlenmeyi sağlamak ve rejenerasyon için uygun koruyucu bir çevre oluşturmak için chitosan tüpler daha önce kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada hasarlı omurilik içerisine intramedüller chitosan tüplerde verilen nöral kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri değerlendirildi. Direk intramedüller enjeksiyon ile verilen nöral kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri ile karşılaştırıldı. Erişkin GFP+ transjenik ratların omuriliğinden elde edilen erişkin nöral kök hücreleri ihtiva eden chitosan tüplerin intramedüller implantasyonu omurilik T8 düzeyinde 35g ekstradural klip kompresyonundan 3 hafta sonra gerçekleştirildi. Bu grupta elde edilen sonuçlar kök hücrelerin direk enjeksiyonunu ve sadece duratominin yapıldığı travma grubunu içeren 2 farklı grupla karşılaştırıldı. Nöral kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri immünhistokimyasal ve histopatolojik incelemelerle değerlendirildi. Fonksiyonel iyileşme travma sonrası 9 haftalık süreçte BBB skorlaması ile tayin edildi. Bu çalışmada kronik omurilik yaralanma modelinde intramedüller chitosan tüplerin nöral kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma yeteneğini artırdığı gösterildi. Ancak her 2 grubun fonksiyonel iyileşmesinde hiçbir düzelme gözlenmedi. Chitosan tüpler kronik olarak hasarlı omurilik içerisinde nöral kök hücreler yaşamda kalma yeteneğini artırmada etkin biyomateryallerdir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Chitosan tüp, erişkin omurilik kaynaklı kök hücreler, intramedüller implantasyon, erişkin kronik omurilik yaralanması, rejenerasyon NSPCs isolated from fetal or adult brain and spinal cord have been transplanted into the injured spinal cord (SC) in experimental animal models resulting in varying degrees of axonal regeneration and functional recovery. However, the poor survival of NSPCs posttransplantation remains a major problem in the development of cell therapies for SCI repair. CCs have been previously used to bridge/reconstruct the cavity created within the damaged SC, to promote axonal regrowth or sprouting, and to provide a protective environment hospitable to regeneration. In this study we evaluated the survival and differentiation of NSPCs delivered in intramedullary CCs into the injured SC and compared it with direct intramedullary injection of NSPCs. Intramedullary implantation of CCs containing adult NSPCs harvested from the SC of adult green fluorescent protein transgenic rats was performed 3 weeks after extradural 35g clip injury at T8. This group was compared to two different groups, including direct intramedullary injection of NSPCs and trauma/durotomy alone. We evaluated the survival and differentiation of NSPCs using immunhistochemical and histopathological techniques. Functional improvement was also assessed for 6 weeks with the BBB score. We found that intramedullary CCs enhance the survival of NSPCs in a chronic model of SCI. However, no significant improvement in functional recovery was observed in the group with CCs containing NSPCs relative to the direct intramedullary injection of NSPCs. The conventional method of peripheral nerve gap treatment is autografting. This method is limited. In this study, an aligned nanofibrous graft was formed using microbial polyester, Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV). The regenerative effect of the graft was compared with that of autograftingin vivo. To determine the regenerative effect, rats were assessed with sciatic nerve functional index, electromyographic evaluation, and histological evaluation. Results found in this study include PHBV grafts stimulated progressive nerve regeneration, although regeneration was not comparable with that of autografting. We conclude that the study results were promising for aligned bacterial polymeric grafts for peripheral nerve regeneration. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The circadian rhythm of stroke and myocardial infarction (MI) may be related to the circadian rhythm of melatonin, and erythrocyte deformability may be the key mechanism in this relationship. Therefore, this study has been performed to determine if there is a relationship between the pineal gland and melatonin and red cell deformability. Twenty‐eight rats underwent pinealectomy, pinealectomy plus melatonin administration (200 mg/kg), or no treatment (n=7 in each group). Erythrocyte deformability was determined using the filtration technique. The results are reported in mean (±SD) seconds: control: 1.45±0.44; pinealectomy (A): 1.55±0.16; pinealectomy (B): 1.34±0.26 and pinealectomy and melatonin: 2.56±0.69. Pinealectomy by itself did not cause any statistically significant change in erythrocyte deformability but the addition of melatonin significantly decreased it. These results suggest a relationship between melatonin and erythrocyte deformability. Further investigations may uncover the causes of the circadian rhythm of stroke and MI, which may help improve chronobiological therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: to examine the implantation of chitosan channels stuffed with mesenchyme-originated stem/progenitor cells (MSPCs) derived from adult rats in a spinal cord transection model. The level of axonal regeneration, the effect of chitosan channels on the survival of MSPCs, and the functional recovery results were also evaluated. Material and methods: chitosan channels stuffed with MSPCs were implanted at the level of T8 in a transected rat spinal cord. MSPCs were harvested from the pelvic bone marrow of adult rats, and the MSPC-chitosan channel group was compared with three control groups. The axonal regeneration capacity, the effect of chitosan channels on the survival of MSPCs, and the functional recovery results were compared among four groups. The survival of MSPCs was evaluated using histopathological techniques and electron microscopy, axonal regeneration/germination was evaluated by confocal microscopy, and locomotor function was assessed for 4 weeks using the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan locomotor score. Results: the MSPC-chitosan channel group exhibited enhanced survival of transplanted MSPCs compared with MSPCs transplanted directly into the lesion cavity, although no significant difference was detected in locomotor function between the treatment and control groups. The MSPC-chitosan channel group demonstrated thicker myelination of axons than the other groups. Conclusion: chitosan channels promoted the survival of transplanted MSPCs and created a tissue bridge after complete spinal cord transection. They also induced axonal regeneration and germination. Periferik sinir yaralanmasında altın standart tedavi hasar gören periferik sinir uçlarının uç-uca onarımı veya hasarlı uçlar arasındaki mesafeyle, gerginliğin fazla olduğu durumlarda sinir grefti ile uçların birleştirilmesidir. Greft ile onarımın dezavantajları, verici alanda motor-duysal kayıp gelişmesi, verici greft miktarının sayı ve çap olarak yetersizliği ve yanlış eşleşmedir. Bu dezavantajların giderilmesi amacı ile son yıllarda entübülasyon stratejileri ve kök hücre uygulamalarından yararlanılmaktadır.Bu çalışmada entübülasyon amaçlı bakteryel polyester ve chitosan kaplı tübüler greft ile birlikte insan kaynaklı mezenşimal kök hücrelerin kullanımının aksonal rejenerasyon üzerine olan etkilerinin araştırılması planlandı. Bakteryel polyesterler ve chitosanın biyouyumlu, biyoçözünür, nontoksik ve kolay şekil verilebilen yapıda olması, biyolojik sistemlerde kullanılabilmelerini sağlamaktadır. Çalışmamızda bakteryel polyester ailesinin bir üyesi olan polihidroksibütirat (PHB) ile tübüler yapının iç yüzeyi, chitosan isimli biyomateryalle bu tübüler yapının dış yüzeyi kaplandı. Chitosan kaplama ile tüpün kollapsının engellenmesi amaçlanırken, polihidroksibütirat (PHB) kaplı iç yüzeyde aksonların rejenerasyonunu kolaylaştırabilmek için nanoteknolojiden faydalanıldı. Bu çalışmada ağırlıkları 225 ile 275 gr. arasında değişen toplam 30 adet erkek Wistar-Hannover albino rat kullanıldı. Denekler otogreft, yapay tübüler greft, yapay tübüler greft-kök hücre grubu olarak üç gruba ayrıldı. Deneklerde 10 mm uzunluğunda defekte neden olan deneysel siyatik sinir hasarı oluşturuldu. Hasar birinci grupta otogreft, ikinci grupta tüp halinde, üç boyutlu yönlendirilmiş nanofiber yüzeyli PHB ve chitosan yapısındaki yapay tübüler greft ile içi boş olarak ve üçüncü grupta PHB ve chitosan yapısındaki yapay tübüler greftin içerisine insan mezenşimal kaynaklı kök hücre konularak onarıldı. Dördüncü ve sekizinci hafta sonunda deneklerdeki fonksiyonel düzelme siyatik sinir fonksiyon indeksi ile değerlendirildi. Bütün gruplarda zaman ilerledikçe istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzelme olduğu saptandı. Sekizinci hafta sonunda yapılan histopatolojik incelemede üç grupta da rejenere olan aksonlar saptandı. Otogreft grubunda diğer iki gruba göre, yapay tübüler greft-kök hücre grubunda ise yapay tübüler greft grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede daha fazla aksonal rejenerasyon olduğu tespit edildi. Deney sonucunda PHB ve chitosan modifikasyonu ile hazırlanan tübüler greftlerin hem kendi başlarına hemde insan mezenşim kaynaklı kök hücre ile birlikte kullanımının sinir rejenerasyona katkı sağladığı gösterildi. PHB ve chitosan yapısındaki tübüler greft ile birlikte mezenşimal kök hücrelerin kullanımının, tek başına kullanımına göre daha iyi aksonal rejenerasyon sağladığı tespit edildi.Anahtar kelimeler: PHB, chitosan, mezenşimal kök hücre, periferik sinir, aksonal rejenerasyon The gold standard in the treatment of peripheral neuronal injury is end to end anastomosis of the nerve endings, but in case of tension or segmental neuronal tissue loss, neuronal garfts must be used. Disadvantages of neuronal grafting are motor or sensory neurological loss in the donor site, insufficient length and diameter of the neuronal graft and aberrant pairing of the nerve fibers. For the reasons mentioned, entubulation strategies and stem cell applications are being developed.In this research, we investigated the effects of tubular grafts covered with bacterial polyesters and chitosan and human mesenchymal stem cells on the axonal regeneration. Biocomformability, bioresorbable, nontoxic and formability characteristics of bacterial polyesters and chitosan makes them suitable for nerve grafting. In this study, the inner surface of the tubular structure is covered with polyhydroxy butyrate (PHB), which is a member of bacterial polyesters, and the outer surface is covered with chitosan. Chitosan cover is used to prevent the collapse of tubular structure and the inner cover PHB used to facilitate the neuronal growth.Thirty Wistar-Hannover albino rats weighting 225-275 gr. were divided into three groups, autorgaft, synthetic tubular graft and synthetic tubular graft plus stem cells. A ten millimeter nerve segment was sectioned out from the sciatic nerves of the rats and autografts form is used in the first group, the gap was grafted by tube shaped three dimensional directed nanofiber surfaced PHB and chitosan formed tubular graft without any content in the second group and tube shaped three dimensional directed nanofiber surfaced PHB and chitosan formed tubular graft with human mesenchymal stem cells in the third group.Functional improvement was assessed by sciatic nerve function index after four and eight weeks. Statistically significant improvements were observed in all groups by the time. Regenerated axons were seen in histopathological evaluation in all groups after eight weeks. There were significant differences in axonal regeneration in auto graft group compared with other two groups and in synthetic tubular graft-stem cell group compared with only synthetic tubular graft group. PHB and chitosan modificated tubular grafts provided neuronal regeneration alone or combined with hMSC. PHB and chitosan grafts with mesenchymal stem cells provided better axonal regeneration than they used alone.Key words: PHB, chitosan, mesenchymal stem cell, peripheral nerve, axonal regeneration 114

Erişkin mezenkimal dokulardan izole edilen mezenşim kaynaklı kök hücreler değişik derecelerde aksonal rejenerasyon ve fonksiyonel iyileşme ile sonuçlanan deneysel hayvan modellerinde hasarlı omuriliğe transplante edilmiştir. Herşeye rağmen mezenşimal kök hücrelerin transplantasyon sonrası yaşamda kalma özelliklerinin iyi olmaması omurilik yaralanmalarının onarımında hücre tedavilerinin geliştirilmesinde büyük bir sorun olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Hasarlı omurilik içerisinde oluşan yaralanma alanını yeniden inşa etmek ya da köprülemek, aksonal yeniden gelişimi ve filizlenmeyi sağlamak ve rejenerasyon için uygun koruyucu bir çevre oluşturmak için chitosan tüpler daha önce kullanılmıştır.Bu çalışmada transeksiyona maruz bırakılan omuriliğe ekstramedüller chitosan tüplerde verilen mezenşimal kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri değerlendirildi. Direk transeksiyona maruz kala alana enjeksiyon ile verilen mezenşimal kaynaklı kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri ile karşılaştırıldı. Erişkin insan mezenkimal dokularından elde edilen mezenşimal kök hücreleri ihtiva eden chitosan tüplerin ekstramedüller implantasyonu omurilik T8 düzeyine yapılan transeksiyondan hemen sonra gerçekleştirildi. Bu grupta elde edilen sonuçlar direk kök hücre enjeksiyonu yapılan, sadece ekstramedüller chitosan tüp yerleştirilen ve sadece transeksiyon yapılan 3 farklı grupla karşılatırıldı. Mezenşimal kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma ve farklılaşma özellikleri immünhistokimyasal ve histopatolojik incelemelerle değerlendirildi. Aksonal filizlenme ve rejenerasyon konfokal mikroskop ile değerlendirildi. Fonksiyonel iyileşme travma sonrası 4 haftalık süreçte BBB skorlaması ile tayin edildi.Bu çalışmada akut omurilik yaralanma modelinde ekstramedüller chitosan tüp içerisinde verilen mezenşimal kök hücrelerin yaşamda kalma yeteneğine sahip olduğu gösterildi. Hacettepe University, Medical School, Neurosurgery specialization thesis, Ankara, 2012.Mesenchyme originated stem cells that are isolated from adult mesenchymal tissues were transplanted to damaged spinal cords in experimental animal models with various levels of axonal regeneration and functional recovery results. The fact that the survival feature of mesenchymal stem cells after transplantation in spite of everything constitutes an important obstacle in the development of cell treatments in the correction of spinal cord injuries. Chitosan tubes have been used to reconstruct or rebridge the injured area in the damaged spinal cord, to support axonal redevelopment and germination and to provide a protective environment for regeneration.This study evaluates properties of survival and differentiation for the mesenchymal stem cells given to the spinal cord that has been subjected to transection inside extramedullary chitosan tubes. This was compared with properties of survival and differentiation for mesenchymal originated stem cells that were injected directly to the area that was subject to transection. The extramedullary implantation of chitosan tubes that contain mesenchymal stem cells, obtained from adult human mesenchymal tissues was done right after the T8 level transection. The results obtain with this group was compared with 3 different groups that had direct stem cell injection, only planted with extramedullary chitosan tube and only had transection. Survival and differentiation properties of mesenchymal stem cells were evaluated using immunehistochemical and histopathological analyses. Axonal germination and regeneration was evaluated using confocal microscope. Functional recovery was determined by BBB scoring within the 4-week period after the trauma.The study showed that the mesenchymal stem cells given inside extramedullary chitosan tube in an acute spinal cord injury could survive. Bakteryel polyesterlerin biyouyumlu ve biyobozunur olmaları, biyolojik sistemlerde kullanımları için son derece uygun bir özelliktir. PHBHHX, bakteryel polyester ailesinin gelişmiş mekanik özelliklere sahip bir üyesidir. Kemik iliği stromal hücreleri ise sinir sistemi hastalıklarında pek çok alanda tedavi amaçlı araştırılmaktadır ve potansiyel faydaları gösterilmektedir. Bu çalışmada PHBHHX ile insan kaynaklı MSC'nin ( hMSC ) periferik sinir hasarında kullanımının, aksonal rejenerasyona etkisi araştırıldı. Üç gruba ayrılan Spraque-Dawley albino ratlarda 10 mm uzunluğunda deneysel siyatik sinir hasarı oluşturuldu. Hasar birinci grupta otogreft ile onarıldı. İkinci grupta tüp halinde üç boyutlu yönlendirilmiş nanofiber yüzeye sahip PHBHHX ile içi boş olarak, ve üçüncü grupta aynı greft ile içerisine hMSC konularak onarım yapıldı. Dört ve sekizinci haftalarda deneklerdeki fonksiyonel düzelme siyatik sinir fonksiyon indeksi ile değerlendirildi. Otogreft ve greft-kök hücre gruplarında zaman ilerledikçe istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzelme saptandı. Yalnız PHBHHX kullanılan grupta zamana göre fonksiyonel düzelme yoktu. Sekiz hafta sonunda elektromiyografi uygulandı ve birleşik kas aksiyon potansiyeli ( CMAP ) kullanılarak yapılan değerlendirmede otogreft ve greft-kök hücre gruplarında yalnız PHBHHX kullanılan gruba göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede daha iyi sonuçlar elde edildi. Her üç grupta da CMAP kaydı yapılabilmesi PHBHHX'in tek başına kullanımının da sinir rejenerasyonu sağladığını göstermektedir. Yapılan histopatolojik değerlendirmelerde üç grupta da rejenere aksonlar saptandı. Otogreft grubunda diğer iki gruba göre, greft-kök hücre grubunda ise yalnız PHBHHX grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede daha fazla aksonal rejenerasyon vardı. The autologous sensorial nerve graft usage in surgical nerve gap repair is still gold standart but it has its own disadvantages leading to extra morbidity in donor site. Bacterial polyesters are very suitable for repairing biological systems because of their biocompatibility and biodegredability. PHBHHX is a member of bacterial polyester family with good mechanical properties. MSCs are being investigated in many neuronal diseases and their potential benefits has been shown in many trials both on human and animal. In this study the effect of PHBHHX and human mesenchymal stem cell ( hMSC ) on axonal regeneration was investigated. An experimental nerve gap was formed with 10 mm long in 225-275 gr weighted Spraque-Dawley albino rats. Three groups were constituted with 9 rats in each and the gap was repaired with autologous nerve graft, PHBHHX nerve graft tube with oriented nanofiber three dimensional surface alone and PHBHHX nerve graft tube with oriented nanofiber three dimensional surface filled with hMSCs inside, respectively. The rats were evaluated for functional recovery at the end of fourth and eighth weeks with sciatic functional index. In functional evaluation autografted group and the PHBHHX group used with hMSC showed functional improvement with time and this reached statistical significance. PHBHHX alone group did not show functional improvement with time. Electromyographic evaluation which performed on eighth week using compound muscle action potantial again showed better results in autograft and PHBHHX with hMSC groups when compared with PHBHHX alone and this also reached statistical significance. It is important to notice that in each group CMAPs could be recorded which clearly shows that PHBHHX grafts, even when used alone permit nerve regeneration. Histopathological examination showed regenerated axons in each group. Autograft group was better than the others and PHBHHX with hMSC group was better than PHBHHX alone group by means of axonal regeneration. This study showed that the nerve grafts prepared from PHBHHX with oriented nanofiber three dimensional surface aided to nerve regeneration either used alone or with mesenchymal stem cells. - Abstract
Background: The orf virus (ORFV) is a viral pathogen that primarily causes contagious ecthyma in humans and different ruminants. The infection, which is common worldwide, causes large-scale economic losses to animal breeders., Objective and Methods: In this study, tissue samples collected from eight randomly selected goats with dermatological lesions on the teats were examined in different goat herds. B2L gene-specific primer pairs (PP1, PP3 and PP4) were used to reveal the presence of ORFV by molecular methods and for phylogenetic analysis., Results: Viral DNA was detected in four of eight tissues using the semi-nested PCR method. In addition, the data obtained by performing sequence analyses of the amplicons with positive results were compared with the information of different ORFV isolates registered in the GenBank database. Based on the sequence analysis of the field isolates obtained in our study, it was found that the nucleotide similarities among these isolates and those from Asian countries were 100%. Furthermore, ORFV isolates collected from different species and produced in Türkiye over various periods exhibited homologous nucleotide sequences with similarities ranging from 98.1% to 98.8%. In the phylogenetic tree drawn based on the B2L genomic region, it was observed that our field isolates were classified in Group I together with other Turkish and Asian strains., Conclusion: As a result, while other pathogenic agents are considered the cause of disease in goats with dermatological lesions on their mammary tissue, the ORFV should also be evaluated, and protection and control programs should be prepared accordingly., (© 2025 The Author(s). - Abstract
Incidence of acute epidural hematoma is estimated as 1.5% of patients treated for head trauma. The condition can be fatal, and urgent surgical evacuation is recommended. Spontaneous resolution may occur in some cases. Herein, rapid spontaneous resolution of an epidural hematoma is reported and possible mechanisms are discussed.

- Abstract
A 67-year-old female presented with isolated unilateral abducens nerve palsy progressing in 10 days. There were no signs of elevated intracranial pressure. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a right parasagittal meningioma. The tumor was grossly totally removed and the patient's nerve palsy gradually improved within 3 weeks. The mechanism of the isolated abducens nerve palsy in this case is attributed to compression of the abducens nerve by entrapment of the cerebrospinal fluid just before entering Dorello's canal under the petrolingual ligament.
