3. Bandwidth Enhancement of Slot Antenna Using Fractal Shaped Isosceles for UWB Applications.

Abstract

In this paper, a coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed slot antenna using fractal shaped isosceles trapezoidal corrugations is designed and presented for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed antenna is formed by a regular hexagonal patch fed through a CPW feed line and radiates amidst a notched wide hexagonal slot. The edge of the wide slot is shaped by a fractal structure that is formed by five trapezoidal notches. The antenna is printed on RO4350B substrate having a compact size of 0.305λ0 × 0.313λ0 × 0.012λ0 at 2.35 GHz. Good agreement is registered between the experimental results of the fabricated prototype and the calculated ones. By using an Agilent 8722ES vector network analyzer, the fabricated prototype confirms that the antenna has an excellent matching impedance over the bandwidth 2.35-10.65 GHz (127%) which covers the entire UWB band. Furthermore, good radiation performances are measured in an anechoic chamber. Consistent radiation patterns with a reasonable peak gain are measured over the entire working bandwidth. Abstract

In this paper, a novel rectangular shaped patch antenna is designed for Ultra-Wide Band applications. The studied antenna is compact and has a small size (20 mm x 21.5 mm) with a 50-Ω feed line and a partial ground plane which offer a very simple geometry. The antenna is printed on FR4 material which has a depth of 1.60 mm and a relative permittivity equal to 4.3.The different results are obtained using the CST Microwave Studio software. The antenna operates over a 3.12 GHz to 17.37 GHz range with a return loss less than -10 dB and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2.The reported antenna achieves a maximum gain of 5 dB.

Abstract

This paper refers to the synthesis of unequally spaced printed antenna arrays by using the principle of modeling of the feeding circuits by microstrip lines. The synthesis approach developed for this type of array makes it possible to approach an optimal desired pattern by modifying the sources' spatial distribution and is one in which the excitation by microstrip line of each source of the array is related to its localization. This approach considers the characteristics of the elementary source and its feeder as well as the practical realization constraints through a rigorous modeling of the antenna array and its feeding circuit. A synthesis method for this type of antenna array is developed. The synthesis problem is solved by the use of the nonlinear technique of relaxation optimization with constraints. Various synthesis results corresponding to various configurations of supply (at the end, at the center, in series and in parallel) are then presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
