Abstract

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are becoming more dependent on mission success than ever. Due to their increase in demand, addressing security vulnerabilities to both UAVs and the Flying Ad-hoc Networks (FANET) they form is more important than ever. As the network traffic is communicated through open airwaves, this network of UAVs relies on monitoring applications known as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to detect and mitigate attacks. This paper will survey current IDS systems that include machine learning techniques when combating various vulnerabilities and attacks from bad actors. Abstract

Summary: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attained a great attraction of researchers in the recent years. In these networks, many structures are considered that have different properties. This article offers a unique approach, the inter‐core based reconnection strategy (ICRS), which is intended to improve the robustness of Scale‐Free Networks (SFNs) in the setting of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), with a special emphasis on the Internet of Health Things (IoHT) network. SFNs' vulnerabilities to malicious assaults while remaining resilient to random attacks. The proposed ICRS overcomes this issue by offering a novel reconnection approach that employs separate edges between network centers. Destructive assaults that have a significant impact on network connectivity, emphasizing the importance of a robust network that can resist a variety of attacks. ICRS is positioned as a solution that optimizes the network via reconnection techniques, changing it into an onion‐like structure with increased robustness. The simulation results depict that ICRS outperforms the existing algorithms in terms of robustness enhancement. The results show that ICRS performs 48%, 29%, 22%, and 16% better than Barabasi Albert (BA), Hill Climbing (HC), Simulated Annealing (SA), Random Edge Swap Mechanism (RESM), and Robustness Strategy (ROSE), respectively. 6. Proactive Content Retrieval Based on Value of Popularity in Content-Centric Internet of Vehicles

Abstract

Content retrieval in content-centric vehicular networks faces challenges that include high latency, especially when content is stored far from the requesting vehicle. On-path caching feature in the conventional vehicular named data Networks (VNDN) enables content storage that can reduce latency. However, due to the constantly changing dynamic ad hoc nature of the vehicular network, the availability of stored content for the requester vehicle cannot be guaranteed. In addition, without knowing which content will be requested, where it will be requested and when it will be requested, the content caching functionality of VNDN is underutilized. To address this issue, this manuscript proposes a content prefetching scheme for the Content-centric Internet of Vehicles (CIoV) by introducing the content Value of Popularity ( $VoP$ ) matrix. Considering vehicles requesting content of similar interests, we evaluate $VoP$ through three value update functions that follow the power law of the time elapsed since the last content requested. By multiple parameters of consumer vehicle similarity, an on-road proactive content retriever vehicle is selected. The simulation results showed that the proposed proactive on-path content prefetching mechanism significantly reduces the content delivery delay while increasing the success delivery ratio by 48% and extends the spread of content within the network by 53%.

17. An efficient edge swap mechanism for enhancement of robustness in scale-free networks in healthcare systems

Abstract

This paper presents a sequential edge swap (SQES) mechanism to design a robust network for a healthcare system utilising energy and communication range of nodes. Two operations: sequential degree difference operation (SQDDO) and sequential angle sum operation (SQASO) are performed to enhance the robustness of network. With equivalent degrees of nodes from the network's centre to its periphery, these operations build a robust network structure. Disaster attacks that have a substantial impact on the network are carried out using the network information. To identify a link between the malicious and disaster attacks, the Pearson coefficient is employed. SQES creates a robust network structure as a single objective optimisation solution by changing the connections of nodes based on the positive correlation of these attacks. SQES beats the current methods, according to simulation results. When compared to hill-climbing algorithm, simulated annealing, and ROSE, respectively, the robustness of SQES is improved by roughly 26%, 19% and 12%.

Abstract

Similar to terrestrial networks, underwater wireless networks (UWNs) also aid several critical tasks including coastal surveillance, underwater pollution detection, and other maritime applications. Currently, once underwater sensor nodes are deployed at different levels of the sea, it is nearly impossible or very expensive to reconfigure the hardware, for example, battery. Taking this issue into account, considerable amount of research has been carried out to ensure minimum energy costs and reliable communication between underwater nodes and base stations. As a result, several different network protocols were proposed for UWN, including MAC, PHY, transport, and routing. Recently, a new paradigm was introduced claiming that the intermittent nature of acoustic channel and signal resulted in designing delay tolerant routing schemes for the UWN, known as an underwater delay tolerant network. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey of underwater routing protocols with emphasis on the limitations, challenges, and future open issues in the context of delay tolerant network routing.

Abstract

Beacon or safety messages are broadcasted in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) to disseminate network state or emergency incident information to other vehicles in the network. The freshness of information depends upon the frequent transmission of beacons. Similarly, to increase the awareness area or communicating with the distant nodes, beacons are disseminated with a high transmission power. However, increasing the beacon transmission power or rate has a negative effect on information communication efficiency because of the finite bandwidth of the wireless link. Therefore, different schemes have been proposed to individually control beacon’s transmission power, transmission rate, or contention window at the MAC layer, or any combination of those, to achieve quality beacon communication in VANETs. The latter case is called hybrid adaptive beaconing schemes. In literature, there are many hybrid adaptive beaconing schemes that control multiple communication parameters to efficiently broadcast beacon messages in VANETs. In this paper, we explicitly survey and summarized various aspects of those schemes. The open and challenging issues are also highlighted in this paper.
