© 2019 Elsevier Ltd Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, DCPD (CaHPO4·2H2O), brushite, is an important calcium phosphate compound encountered in mineralized tissues and used in medicine, especially in bone cement formulations. However, the use of DCPD as direct implantable biomaterial has not received dedicated attention. In addition, the possibility to dope DCPD with biologically active ions to modulate its performances was not systematically explored. We have investigated in depth the doping of DCPD with Mg2+, Sr2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, and Ag+ ions. Clear modifications in terms of chemical composition, particle size, pore distribution, crystal morphology, and affinity for water were pointed out. Then, the samples were cultured with human adipose-derived stem cells to explore cytotoxicity and proliferation. Various behaviors were noticed dependent on the incorporated metal ions. Such DCPD compounds associated with bioactive metal ions, and particularly Ag+ and Zn2+, appear promising as a new family of reactive materials for use, as such or in combination, in bone-related applications.

Anatase-based photoactive thin layers and membranes with an ordered mesoporosity resulting from mesophase templating were synthesized for coupling membrane separation and photocatalyzed reaction. A sol-gel method was developed to prepare a nanocrystalline anatase hydrosol at low temperature. Mesostructured thin layers and membranes were produced using this hydrosol and triblock copolymers (poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)- poly(ethylene oxide)). These amphiphilic molecules give rise to templating mesophases by self-assembly process. Two different mesostructures were obtained: an initially 2D hexagonal structure (crystallographic type p6mm) corresponding to a close-packed arrangement of cylindrical micelles and then of cylindrical pores; a cubic mesostructure (crystallographic type Fm3m) with spherical pores resulting from a micellar cubic mesophase. The removal of the templating mesophases at low temperature (150°C) is possible using the photocatalytic properties of the anatase layers. Thus, such layers could be deposited on low thermal stability substrates. Mixed oxide (TiO2/SiO2) and doped mesostructured films were also prepared. Doping would be an opportunity to shift the photoactivity in the visible light range. The photocatalytic activity of the various thin layers and membranes was investigated. These experiments showed a high photocatalytic efficiency. Preliminary experiments of coupling separation/degradation were performed with an aqueous solution of organic dye (methylen blue). The membranes were also characterized with liquid and gas permeation measurements.; Des couches minces et des membranes photoactives à base d'anatase nanocristalline et à mésoporosité ordonnée, obtenues par effet d'empreinte de mésophases structurantes, ont été réalisées en vue du couplage direct séparation membranaire et réaction photocatalysée. Une méthode de synthèse par voie sol-gel de sol d'anatase nanocristalline à basse température a été mise au point. Des couches minces et des membranes mésostructurées ont été préparées à partir de ce sol en utilisant des copolymères triblocs de type poly (oxy éthylène)- bloc – poly (oxy propylène)- bloc – poly (oxy éthylène). Ces molécules amphiphiles forment par auto-assemblage des mésophases structurantes. Deux mésostructures différentes ont été obtenues : une mésostructure initialement hexagonale 2D de type cristallographique p6mm, correspondant à un arrangement compact de micelles cylindriques puis de pores cylindriques, et une mésostructure cubique de type cristallographique Fm3m, présentant des pores sphériques, issue d'une mésophase micellaire cubique. Nous avons montré qu'il est possible de détruire la mésophase structurante à basse température (150°C), en utilisant les propriétés photocatalytiques de l'anatase. Ceci permet d'envisager le dépôt de ces couches minces sur des supports thermosensibles. Nous avons aussi exploré la possibilité de réaliser des couches mixtes ordonnées TiO2/SiO2 et des films dopés pour étendre le domaine de la photoactivité du matériau vers la lumière visible. Ces couches minces et ces membranes ont été testées en photocatalyse. Elles ont montré leur efficacité élevée. Des tests préliminaires de couplage direct séparation/photodégradation ont été réalisés sur une solution aqueuse de bleu de méthylène. Les membranes ont été également caractérisées en perméation des liquides et des gaz.
