Abstract

One of the most active areas of research in semi-supervised learning has been to study methods for constructing good ensembles of classifiers. Ensemble systems are techniques that create multiple models and then combine them to produce improved results. These systems usually produce more accurate solutions than a single model would. Specially, multi-view ensemble systems improve the accuracy of text classification because they optimize the functions to exploit different views of the same input data. However, despite being more promising than the single-view approaches, document datasets often have no natural multiple views available. This study proposes an algorithm to generate a synthetic view from a standard text dataset. The model generates a new view from the standard bag-of-words approach using an algorithm based on hidden Markov models (HMMs). To show the effectiveness of the proposed HMM-based synthetic view generation method, it has been integrated in a co-training ensemble system and tested with four text corpora: Reuters, 20 Newsgroup, TREC Genomics and OHSUMED. The results obtained are promising, showing a significant increase in the efficiency of the ensemble system compared to a single-view approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

El proyecto IPHealth tiene como principal objetivo diseñar e implementar una plataforma con servicios que permitan un acceso integrado e inteligente a la información relacionada en el entorno biomédico. Se proponen tres escenarios de uso: (i) la asistencia a los profesionales sanitarios durante el proceso de toma de decisiones en el ámbito clínico, (ii) el acceso a información relevante sobre su estado de salud a pacientes crónicos y dependientes y (iii) el soporte a la formación basada en la evidencia de los nuevos estudiantes de medicina. Se propondrán técnicas más efectivas para diversas técnicas de PLN y extracción de información de grandes conjuntos de datos tanto provenientes de sensores como utilizando conjuntos de datos y texto de libre acceso. Se diseñará una arquitectura y un framework de aplicaciones Web que permita la integración de procesos y técnicas de minería de texto y datos e integración de información de una forma rápida, uniforme y reutilizable (mediante plugins)., The IPHealth project's main objective is to design and implement a platform with services that enable an integrated and intelligent access to related in the biomedical domain. We propose three usage scenarios: (i) assistance to healthcare professionals during the decision making process at clinical settings, (ii) access to relevant information about their health status and dependent chronic patients and (iii) to support evidence-based training of new medical students. Most effective techniques are proposed for reveral NLP tecniques and extraction of information from large data sets from sets of sensors and using open data. A Web application framework and an architecture that would enable integration of processes and techniques of text and data mining will be designed. Also, this architecture have to allow an integration of information in a fast, consistent and reusable (via plugins) way.

Abstract

Recently, there has been significant interest in applying artificial intelligence techniques to intrusion detection problem. To find the solution to the difficulties in acquiring and representing existing knowledge in almost systems, we proposed a novel instance-based intrusion detection system called httpHunting. It will provide a framework to intrusion detection problem, incorporating several artificial intelligence techniques that help to overcome some of those limitations. httpHunting is able to classify in real time, traffic data arriving at the network interface of the host that is protecting, detecting anomalous traffic patterns. Abstract

Bilateral lung transplantation is the treatment of end-stage lung diseases. However, sometimes a single lung transplant is performed. The technique is not exempt from complications such as acute hyperinflation of the native lung and changes in the diaphragm, predisposing to atelectasis and respiratory failure that can lead to negative results. Therefore, spontaneous breathing trials may fail and delay the weaning process. The combination of advanced monitoring tools, such as electrical impedance tomography and ultrasonography, to diagnose the cause of this failure, recognizing and quantifying the distribution of lung volume and its dynamic behavior could be crucial to improve outcomes. We present the case of a patient with a one-lung transplant and prolonged mechanical ventilation who, after presenting successive failures in the weaning process, underwent advanced monitoring in order to find the causes of the failure.

Abstract

Information Retrieval focuses on finding documents whose content matches with a user query from a large document collection. As formulating well-designed queries is difficult for most users, it is necessary to use query expansion to retrieve relevant information. Query expansion techniques are widely applied for improving the efficiency of the textual information retrieval systems. These techniques help to overcome vocabulary mismatch issues by expanding the original query with additional relevant terms and reweighting the terms in the expanded query. In this paper, different text preprocessing and query expansion approaches are combined to improve the documents initially retrieved by a query in a scientific documental database. A corpus belonging to MEDLINE, called Cystic Fibrosis, is used as a knowledge source. Experimental results show that the proposed combinations of techniques greatly enhance the efficiency obtained by traditional queries.
