Abstract

The magnetic investigations as a function of temperature and magnetic field for the rubidium neodymium double tungstate RbNd(WO4)2 single crystal have been performed. The magnetization was measured in the temperature range from 4.2 to 100 K and for the magnetic field up to 1.5 T. The crystal field and exchange parameters were found.

Abstract

Results of spectroscopic investigations of crystalline potassium-erbium double tungstate KEr(WO4)2 are reported. The single crystals of KEr(WO4)2 were grown by Top Seeded Solution Growth (TSSG) technique. They belong to the chain layered group of materials crystallizing in monoclinic syngony (space group C(sup 6 sub 2h-C2/c). The investigations were carried out in the broad spectral and temperature range (temperature range from 1.1K up to room temperature and the spectral range from 6000/cm to 25000/cm). It was found that the potassium erbium double tungstate belong to the class of the diaxial crystals and it is a pleochroic. Abstract

Magnetic ordering of Dy(3+) ion in low-dimensional magnet CsDy(WO4)2, (CsDyW) has been first studied by means of measurements of the low temperature specific heat over a temperature range of 0.5-23 K. The ordering temperature (T(sub N)) of the Dy(3+) sublattice was established to be 1.34 K. The experimental data indicate on the antiferromagnetic (AFM) character of Dy(3+) ions interactions. Abstract

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Yb3+ ions in a KY(WO4)2 single crystal was investigated at T=4.2 K and fixed frequency of 9.38 GHz. The resonance absorption observed on the lowest Kramers doublet represents the complex superposition of three spectra, corresponding to the ytterbium isotopes with different nuclear moments. The EPR spectrum is characterized by a strong anisotropy of the g-factors. The temperature dependence of the g-factors is shown to be caused by the strong spin-orbital and orbital-lattice coupling. The resonance lines broaden with increasing temperature due to the short spin-lattice relaxation times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. FTIR absorption study of hydroxyl ions in KHo(WO4)2 single crystals

Abstract

The presence of hydroxyl ions has been detected in as-grown KHo(WO4)2 double tungstate single crystals by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The absorption bands of the stretching vibration of OH– ions have been observed between 8–300 K in the 3450–3650 cm–1 wave number range. The temperature and polarization dependences of several intense narrow absorption lines corresponding to hydroxyl ions in different environments have been studied in detail. All lines were shifted, broadened and their intensity was decreased by increasing temperature due to phonon coupling. The band intensities strongly depended on the light propagation and polarization directions, allowing the determination of the orientation of OH– dipoles with respect to the crystallographic axes. The isotopic replicas of several OH– bands have been detected between 2550–2650 cm–1 in crystals treated in D2O water vapour at 873 K. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Abstract

The potassium holmium double tungstate was prepared by using top seeded solution growth technique. Structural investigations have been performed at room temperature. The KHo(WO4)2 single crystal belongs to the monoclinic space group C2=c with the unit-cell parameters: a = 10:624(2) Å, b = 10:352(2) Å, c = 7:5434(15) Å, β = 130:78(3)°, and Z = 4.
