Results point out that RecA protein has less influence in the DNA repair in Thiobacillus ferrooxidans as revealed by less sensitivity of recA mutants to the DNA-dmaging agents.

2. ThrH, a homoserine kinase isozyme with in vivo phosphoserine phosphatase activity in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract

A novel gene called thrH encodes a protein with an in vivo homoserine-kinase-like activity in Pseudomonas aeruginosa when expressed in Escherichia coli thrB mutant strains. Threonine auxotrophy is observed only in Pseudomonas aeruginosa when both thrB and thrH are simultaneously activated. Overexpression of the new gene also allows complementation of serine auxotrophy of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa serB strains. In addition, sequence homology is observed between thrH and the serB proteins from different organisms.

Abstract

The Thiobacillus ferrooxidans alaS gene was cloned, sequenced and compared to other alanyl-tRNA synthetase genes. Its expression in Escherichia coli and T. ferrooxidans was also analyzed. E. coli and T. ferrooxidans were found having the same genomic organization of recA-recX-alaS. However, it was observed that the recA and alaS genes cannot be transcribed from their own promoters in E.coli.
