Older adults with inclusion criteria were selected by two-stage cluster sampling. Data were collected by demographic information questionnaire, the healthy lifestyle questionnaire for elderly, the Rosenberg self-esteem scale, and the subjective vitality scale. Objectives During the outbreak of the infectious diseases, the elderly are at a higher risk. The future wheel model can help understand the different dimensions and effects of these diseases. The present study aims to determine the different effects of the emerging infectious disease pandemics on elderly people based on the experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran using the future wheel model. Methods & Materials In this qualitative expert-oriented study conducted in 2022, the second version of the future wheel was used to identify the effects in three steps. First, the effects were extracted by brainstorming method with a panel of experts (the Aging Committee of the Research Institute for Future Studies in Health, Kerman, Iran). Then, the effects were analyzed with the STEEP method and in interaction with other two panel of experts. In the next step, the effects were examined, and after reaching a consensus, the future wheel of the effects and their time horizon was provided. Results In this study, 81 effects of the emerging infectious disease pandemics on the elderly were identified in 6 dimensions of socio-psychological (n=25), technological (n=3), economic (n=7), environmental (n=1), political (n=3), and health (n=38). Of these, 10 opportunities and 9 threats and their time horizons were extracted. Conclusion The outbreak of the emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19 can leave multidimensional effects on the elderly in the world including Iran. We can take advantage of the experiences of facing the COVID-19 pandemic and consider the requirements and solutions for dealing with similar pandemics in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives In addition to physical damage, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause psychological problems in people. The present study aims to assess the prevalence of anxiety and obsession caused by the COVID-19 in the elderly and their relationship with depression and the ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL). Methods & Materials This descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 300 older adults aged ≥60 years in Maneh and Samalghan county who were selected by a simple random sampling method. Data were collected by using a demographic form, the coronavirus anxiety scale (CAS), obsession with COVID-19 scale (OCS), ADL scale, Instrumental ADL scale, and geriatric depression scale (GDS). Data analysis was performed in SPSS v. 18 using Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman's correlation tests. Results Among participants, 214 (71.2%) had age <70 years. The prevalence of OCS and CAS in the elderly was 5.3% and 9%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that the scores of OCD (r=0.220, P<0.001) and CAS (r=0.322, P<0.001) had a significant correlation with depression. The CAS score had a significant nega- tive correlation with ADL (r=-0.114, P<0.05) Conclusion The prevalence of obsession and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 in the elderly is not different from that in other age groups. However, there is significant increase in them during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to their pre-pandemic levels. it seems necessary to pay attention to screening, referral, and more detailed follow-up of mental health services in clinics and health centers for the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Introduction: Medication adherence is regarded as one of the most important factors in caring for hypertension. This study aimed to investigate the effect of intervention based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) on medication adherence and its influencing factors on the elderly with hypertension in a rural area, Kerman province, Iran. Methods: This quasi-experimental study of the pre and post-control type was conducted on 109 elderly patients with hypertension. Data were collected using a multistage random sampling and a valid questionnaire based on the TPB. The intervention was an educational program based on TPB constructs using educational videos, pamphlets and booklets approved by the Ministry of Health. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS 22 using parametric tests (Independent t-test, paired t-test, and regression analysis). Results: The average score of the attitudes, perceived behavioral control, as well as medication adherence behavior constructs increased significantly after the intervention in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Multivariate regression analysis in intervention group after intervention showed that 76% of variations in intention were explained by the model. Attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control were independent predictors of intention. The association between subjective norms and intention was of marginal significance (B = 0.89). Conclusion: The results of this research showed that an educational program based on TPB can affect medication adherence on elderly rural patients suffering from hypertension. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
