The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Bead-pull RF measurements were also performed at PSI to verify, in particular, that the polarization of the dipole fields does not have any rotation along the structure. The high-power test was performed at CERN and now the TDS is at DESY and has been installed in FLASHForward, where the first streaking experience with beam will be accomplished. This paper presents the design of a 476MHz resonant stripline beam position monitor (BPM) for an IR-FEL machine at NSRL. This type of BPM was developed based on stripline BPM by moving the coupling feedthrough closer to the short end downstream. This modification introduces a resonance that gives this BPM a better capability to detect lower beam currents compared to broadband devices like button and stripline BPM. Meanwhile, the change is small enough to use the same type of electronics [1-3]. In the following sections, the basic principle, nonlinear effect, sensitivity, the filtered sum and difference signals, and the mechanical design of this BPM will be mainly discussed., Proceedings of the 10th Int. FERMI is the seeded Free Electron Laser (FEL) user facility at Elettra laboratory in Trieste, operating in the VUV to soft X-rays spectral range. In order to extend the FEL spectral range to shorter wavelengths, a feasibility study for increasing the Linac energy from 1.5 GeV to 1.8 GeV is actually going on. The design of new S-band accelerating structures, intended to replace the present Backward Travelling Wave sections, is presented. Such design is tailored for high gradient operation, low breakdown rates and low wakefield contribution. A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established with the aim of developing and building an advanced X-Band transverse deflector structure (TDS) with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. As this innovative CERN design requires very high manufacturing precision to guarantee highest azimuthal symmetry of the structure to avoid the deterioration of the polarization of the streaking field, the high-precision tuning-free assembly procedures developed at PSI for the SwissFEL C-band accelerating structures will be used for the manufacturing. Such a TDS will be installed downstream of the undulators of the soft X-ray beamline of SwissFEL and thanks to the variable polarization of the TDS, it will be possible to perform a complete characterization of the 6D phase-space. For SwissFEL a novel production process for high-gradient, high-precision C-band accelerating structures had been developed at PSI and was implemented for series production in collaboration with industry. The copper parts of the structures are machined and brazed relying on a ultra-high precision manufacturing process and tight mechanical tolerances; no RF tuning methods are applied during or after production. So far none of the structures of the series production failed during RF power conditioning and operation in the SwissFEL facility. After completing the series production for SwissFEL PSI started collaborations with CERN, ELETTRA and DESY for applying the production process and related know-how to other frequencies, namely S-band (3 GHz) and X-band (12 GHz). The designed TDS has the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting field**. The possibility of changing the orientation of the streaking field of the TDS to an arbitrary azimuthal angle allows for 3D characterization of the phase space using tomographic methods***. Moreover the complete 6D characterization of the beam phase space is possible by combining this technique with quadrupole scans and a dipole spectrometer. As this new cavity design requires very high manufacturing precision to guarantee highest azimuthal symmetry of the structure to avoid the deterioration of the polarization of the streaking field, the high precision tuning-free assembly procedures developed at PSI for the SwissFEL C-band accelerating structures will be used for the manufacturing****. We present the design, construction and high-power test of an X-band radio-frequency accelerating structure, built as a prototype for the CERN LInear Collider (CLIC) study. X-band structures have been attracting increasing attention in recent years with applications foreseen in the domains of compact free electron lasers, medical accelerators and as diagnostics for ultra-short (femtosecond) electron bunches (when used in deflecting mode). To date, the main motivation for developments in this field has been as accelerating structures for linear colliders such as CLIC. In the context of a CERN/PSI collaboration we have built a prototype structure based on an existing CERN design, but with some modification, and following, as closely as possible, the realization and vacuum brazing techniques employed in the production of the C-band structures for the Swiss Free Electron Laser, SwissFEL. We will present the basic design of the structure and describe the fabrication process. The results of high power conditioning of the structure at CERN on an X-box test stand, to assess conditioning times, accelerating field and measure breakdown rates, will also be presented., Proceedings of the 8th Int.
