OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of a hands-on simulation-based course with emphasis on procedural techniques, clinical reasoning, and communication skills developed to improve junior Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) residents preparedness in managing otolaryngologic emergencies. METHODS: Junior OHNS residents and faculty from residency programs in California, Nevada, and Arizona participated in this workshop in 2020 and 2021. The stations featured airway management techniques, ultrasound-guided needle aspiration, nasoseptal hematoma evacuation, and facial fracture repair using various models and cadavers. Participants completed a pre-workshop survey, post-workshop survey, and 2-month follow-up survey that assessed resident anxiety and confidence in three OHNS emergency situations across knowledge, manual skills, and teamwork using a 5-point Likert scale. RESULTS: Pre-workshop surveys reported the least anxiety and most confidence in teamwork, but the most anxiety and least confidence in technical skills and knowledge related to foreign body retrieval and airway management. Introduction Pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) management presents unique challenges in acute care settings, requiring specialized expertise to manage critically ill children. Medical and surgical fellows often manage these patients, but prior residency training rarely provides sufficient ECMO exposure. We developed and evaluated a multimodal pediatric ECMO boot camp for new fellows. Methods This boot camp was implemented during 5-hour sessions in August 2021, August 2022, and August 2023. The curriculum included a 45-minute introductory didactics session, 30-minute hands-on circuit demonstration, and four 30-minute small-group activity stations. To assess knowledge acquisition, pre- and posttests were administered; participants also completed a post–boot camp survey to evaluate their confidence and provide feedback. Results Forty-nine participants completed the boot camp, including 18 critical care, four cardiology, 11 pediatric surgery, 12 cardiothoracic surgery, and four pediatric emergency medicine fellows. Pre- and posttests demonstrated significant improvement in knowledge of ECMO circuit components and pressures (56% vs. 76%, p < .001). All of our participants agreed or strongly agreed that participating in the boot camp increased their confidence in troubleshooting ECMO emergencies. The inclusion of fellows from various clinical disciplines, offering a rich diversity of perspectives, was particularly valued by participants. Discussion Our results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of establishing a pediatric ECMO boot camp to train new surgical and medical fellows. The curriculum not only improved ECMO knowledge but also boosted learners’ confidence in managing ECMO-related challenges.

IntroductionTo highlight the importance of hands-on experiences and mentorship in shaping the future workforce of specialized medical professionals via a Neurosurgery Training Camp.MethodsResponses of the questionnaire regarding the Neurosurgery Training Camp organized by Bursa Uludag University's Faculty of Medicine and the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy were reviewed retrospectively. A one-day program was organized to introduce neurosurgery to medical students. During the camp, the students participated in interactive presentations delivered by faculty members, had lunch together, became acquainted with neurosurgical tools and technologies, and performed interventions. With pre and postworkshop questionnaire, student's expectations and thoughts about camp was evaluated.ResultsForty-one students from 10 medical schools, spanning every year of study, attended the camp. Approximately 39% of the attendees (n = 16) were women and 61% (n = 25) were men. The post-workshop survey results demonstrated that 73% of the students (n = 30) were inclined to pursue a career in neurosurgery after the camp, 21.9% (n = 9) remained undecided, and 4.8% (n = 2) chose not to pursue neurosurgery. Feedback from the post-workshop questionnaire highlighted that all students perceived the camp as beneficial in providing insights into their future careers and aiding in making a decision regarding their career paths.DiscussionThe neurosurgical training camp effectively inspired and educated medical students about the discipline of neurosurgery. Furthermore, the camp effectively altered the career aspirations and perceptions of neurosurgery among the participating students.

To measure change in radiology knowledge, confidence in radiology skills, and perceptions pertaining to radiology following a one-week boot camp elective for undergraduate medical students. A five-day comprehensive radiology boot camp was developed including sessions on image interpretation, procedural skills, and appropriate image ordering. A multiple-choice quiz was administered before and after the elective, utilizing radiology questions from the validated AMSER STARS database. Additionally, a pre- and post-elective survey was administered assessing radiology career interest, confidence in radiology-based skills, and the potential ability of radiology-based skills to increase confidence in specialties other than radiology. Responses from the assessments were analysed using paired t-tests. 15 students enrolled in the course and 14 completed all assessments. The average score on the quiz increased from 50.1% to 66.0% (p <0.001). On the post-elective survey, the average student confidence score increased by more than one point on a six-point Likert scale in each of radiographic interpretation (p =0.004), ultrasound interpretation (p =0.0002), CT/MRI interpretation (p =0.02), general radiology knowledge including procedural skills (p =0.0001), and appropriate image ordering (p =0.004). Average student satisfaction with the elective was 8.1 out of 10. A one-week radiology boot camp for pre-clerkship medical students improved radiology knowledge and confidence in radiology skills, showing potential for this format to meet the demand for increased radiology content in undergraduate training. Students indicated that confidence in radiology knowledge would increase confidence on non-radiology clerkship rotations, highlighting the importance of how a one-week radiology bootcamp can impact both future radiology and non-radiology clerkship experiences. Purpose of Review: The purpose of this review is to highlight literature regarding resident boot camps published across surgical specialties with a focus on urology. Herein, we discuss different boot camp iterations, their results, and the integration of simulation into their curriculum. We review program elements such as curriculum, course length, and efficacy as well as areas for continued investigation. Recent Findings: The field of urology has grown in both the breadth of knowledge and the complexity of procedures. With urology now being an integrated surgical subspecialty, interns often start on the urology service despite limited experience navigating this unique specialty. The boot camp model is one method by which interns and junior residents participate in consolidated training programs to best prepare them for a patient-facing role and the day-to-day demands of residency. Urology programs, both in the USA and abroad, have begun integrating boot camps into their training programs with positive results. Summary: Urology boot camps can be a valuable part of training programs for interns to quickly establish medical knowledge, skills, and efficiency. Ubuntu is an ancient concept and a way of life among most African cultures. It describes the fundamental principles of living for African communities and is rooted in the values of reciprocal sharing. Ubuntu encompasses the whole community in contrast to the Western ideology of individualism and hence the need to sustain and transmit these values from one generation to the next. The study focused on exploring the experiences of high school learners regarding Ubuntu education and training in South Africa. The study was conducted in two selected high schools in the Greater Giyani Municipality of the Limpopo Province. A qualitative research approach and an exploratory, descriptive design were applied. A purposive sampling method was used to identify 15 learners from the two selected high schools for the Boot Camp. Focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted as a data collection method among the grade 10 and 11 learners. Trustworthiness and ethical consideration were ensured. The findings from the study revealed that learners shared different experiences during the Boot Camp. One of the experiences shared by the learners is the knowledge gained on applying the concept of the theology of the body to Ubuntu values. Internalisation of Ubuntu values forms an essential landmark in the individual’s life, significantly young people growing up within African communities rooted in African culture. Contribution: This study’s findings will help educate young people about Ubuntu’s philosophies and encourage them to disseminate information regarding Ubuntu within their respective schools and communities.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess student perception as well as course outcomes (final written examination grades) when using a pilot condensed format in an undergraduate Fixed Prosthodontics course, which was implemented as a response to the global pandemic of Covid‐19. Materials and Methods: The course was delivered in a condensed format, with a total of 28 direct contact hours in the Simulation Clinic within a 4 day period. Asynchronous remote learning was employed for the didactic portion of the course. Students completed surveys before and after the course, to assess their perception of the condensed format, and written examination grades were compared with previous years' grades. Data were entered in an Excel database (Microsoft Excel 2016) and analysed using a statistical analysis software program (IBM SPSS Statistics, v26; IBM Corp). The level of significance was set to α = 0.05. Results: Overall, student perception of the condensed format was positive. At the beginning of the course, female students had less confidence in their skills compared to male students (p <.05). Written examination grades were significantly lower compared to previous years' grades (p =.04). Conclusion: The use of a condensed format can allow a course to be delivered in smaller student cohorts and provides the ability to reduce the total number of direct contact hours allotted to the course, creating space within the curriculum. Student perception of this format was generally positive. However, written examination scores were negatively impacted, indicating possible knowledge gaps resulting from the condensed course format. The paper reports on academic writers as interdisciplinary agents in the University Access Programme (UAP). Among the many challenges, UAP students experience is academic writing. Due to student assignment performance in the first semester of 2022, the sociology module coordinator identified challenges students experience in sociology, particularly in the first year of study. Identified academic writing challenging matters in this regard refers to paragraph construction, referencing and/or citing, and paraphrasing. The challenges mentioned above seem to be addressed in one developmental module (academic literacy) students undertake. With that in mind, our students seem to treat modules in isolation. The academic literacy module teaches students how to reference, paragraph construction, and paraphrase. However, when students engage with modules like sociology, they seem not to apply what was taught in academic literacy. This paper reports on the important role academic writers play in assisting students in academic writing matters via a boot camp (refresher camp) conducted for students. The boot camp's focus was assisting sociology students with academic writing in preparation for their final assignment. Data were gathered from students via written feedback and evaluation of the boot camp. The results from the university gradebook indicated significant improvement in assignment writing matters; this improvement was also expressed in students’ feedback. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Transitioning from medical student to surgical intern is accompanied by increased responsibility, stress, and clinical burden. This environment lends itself to imposter syndrome (IS), a psychological condition grounded in self-doubt causing fear of being discovered as fraud despite adequate abilities. We hypothesized a 2-week surgical boot camp for fourth year medical students would improve confidence in technical skills/knowledge and IS. Thirty medical students matching into surgical specialties completed the boot-camp in February 2020. Presurveys/postsurveys assessed confidence levels using a 1-5 Likert scale regarding 32 technical skills and knowledge points. The Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale (CIPS) assessed IS, where increasing scores correlate to greater IS. Median (interquartile range [IQR]) subject age was 27 y (26, 28), 20 (66.7%) were male, and 21 (70%) were Caucasian. Of the 30 students, 23 (76.7%) had a break in training with a median [IQR] of 2 [1, 3] y outside of medicine. Confidence scores were significantly improved in all five assessment categories (P < 0.05); however, there was no change in CIPS in median [IQR] presurveys versus postsurveys (65.5 [52, 75] versus 64 [52, 75], P = 0.70). Females had higher mean (standard deviation) pre-CIPS than males (68.4 [15.2] versus 61.6 [14.9], P = 0.02). There was no strong correlation between age and CIPS in the presurvey (Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient [SRCC]: 0.29, P = 0.19) or postsurvey (SRCC: 0.31, P = 0.10). While subjects who worked outside of medicine had a stronger relationship with IS (SRCC: 0.37, P = 0.05), multivariable regression analysis did not reveal any significant differences. We advocate for surgical boot-camp training courses to improve trainee skill and confidence. The Association of American Medical Colleges, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and several other leading organizations have increasingly emphasized the importance of the undergraduate medical education-to-graduate medical education transition in the development of physician trainees. As part of this process, transition to residency (TTR), or "boot camp," courses aim to ensure that graduating fourth-year medical students are prepared for internship; however, the data regarding the efficacy of Internal Medicine TTR courses are limited. This article presents a curricular evaluation of a recently developed Internal Medicine TTR course. Objectives: We sought to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel Internal Medicine (IM) transition to residency (TTR) curriculum. Methods: We performed a paired pre-/postsurvey evaluation of graduating fourth-year medical students' perceived preparedness and medical knowledge after participating in a recently developed IM TTR course. Results: The response rate was 51% (24 of 47). There was a significant improvement in 15 of 17 perceived preparedness items and significant improvement in the medical students' performance on the 8-question medical knowledge test. Conclusions: The IM TTR curriculum improved medical students' medical knowledge and perceived preparedness for internship on a variety of high-yield clinical topics. Abstract Objective Surgical boot camps are becoming increasingly popular in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) residency programs. Despite pioneering virtual reality and simulation-based surgical education, these boot camps have lacked critical appraisal. The objective of this article was to examine the adoption and utility of surgical boot camps in OHNS residency training programs around the world. Data Sources Ovid Medline and PubMed databases were systematically searched in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for scoping reviews. Additionally, a grey literature search was performed. Review Methods Inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed publications and grey literature sources that reported on OHNS boot camps for the novice learner. The search was restricted to human studies published in English. Studies were excluded if they were not examining junior trainees. Results A total of 551 articles were identified. Following removal of duplicates, screening, and full text review, 16 articles were included for analysis. Seven major boot camps were identified across various academic sites in the world. Most boot camps were one-day intensive camps incorporating a mixture of didactic, skill specific, and simulation sessions using an array of task trainers and high-fidelity simulators focusing on OHNS emergencies. Studies measuring trainee outcomes demonstrated improvement in trainee confidence, immediate knowledge, and skill acquisition. Conclusion Surgical boot camps appear to be an effective tool for short term knowledge and skill acquisition. Further studies should examine retention of skill and maintenance of confidence over longer intervals, as little is known about these lasting effects.

Teaching programming in an efficient and effective method has been the most difficult subject in the world of computing for the last couple of decades. Aside from a lack of laboratory equipment, the most prevalent issues are the lengthy time it takes to understand a problem, devising algorithms, writing coding, syntax, and semantic complexity of the programming language. Because of the wide range of students' backgrounds, misconceptions about the course, traditional classroom teaching methodology, and the limited allotted time available to cover the course, it is extremely difficult for a teacher to go beyond the fundamental concepts that impede the development of students' problem-solving abilities. The major goal of this study is to assist students to become better programmers by comprehending code and implementing applications for real-world problems. The study was conducted to uncover specific issues among students who lacked the necessary knowledge and skill sets for computer programming courses for computer science third-year students in the 2022 academic year. A sample of 23 students were chosen using randomized sampling technique for the investigations. Students’primary data were acquired through observation, questionnaires, and readily available data. According to the primary data collected, the researchers discovered that rough teacher-student relationships, disorganized laboratories and a lack of resources, the complicated nature of the course, and a lack of motivation in the teaching-learning process are factors that affect students' performance in understanding and solving real-world problems. The major issues were identified as lack of motivation to learn, persistence, inadequate laboratory facilities, lack of attractive teaching methodology, outdated teaching materials, lack of awareness of the benefit of the course, students' myths about the course difficulty, lack of practical guide materials, lab-assistant level of competence, student bad habit on computer usage, etc. Actions had been taken to solve the aforementioned problems through following well-organized and updated course materials, enabling students to develop a habit of teaching themselves, and establishing well-equipped laboratory facilities for practical demonstrations. The researchers believe that having applied the suggested action will bring a remarkable improvement to the knowledge among students. The researchers proposed different actions to be implementedfor both students and teachers. The recommended action was executed and actively followed up by the researchers. The neurosurgical sub-internship is a crucial step for prospective neurosurgeons. However, the expectations for sub-interns, particularly the technical skills required by residents and attendings, often are unclear. We present survey data on what medical students, residents, and attendings believe are important procedural proficiencies for neurosurgical sub-internships. We incorporated these tasks into a pilot skills-based craniotomy workshop, and here we report on the impact of the session on the neurosurgical training of medical students. A 1-day craniotomy lab using cadaveric cranial specimens was conducted for medical students. Surveys querying important competencies for sub-internships were answered by residents and attendings at affiliated hospitals. Pre- and postlab surveys querying interest in and perceptions of neurosurgery, self-assessment of skills, and important competencies for sub-internship preparation were answered by attendees. Medical students, residents, and attendings agreed that burr-hole placement, bone replating, and galea and skin closure were of high importance for sub-interns. There was significant disagreement on the importance of dural opening and closure, establishing a craniotomy, and neuronavigation. The workshop altered perceptions of neurosurgery, with significant changes in recognizing the value of peer mentorship. Students also expressed increased confidence in technical skills, with significant improvements shown in understanding of neurosurgical high-speed drill use (P < 0.001). Although the expectations for sub-interns may be heterogeneous, there is general agreement that proficiency in the initial and final steps of craniotomies, as well as minor procedures, is recommended. Purpose: We evaluated the impact of a virtual Pediatric Surgery Bootcamp curriculum on resource utilization, learner engagement, knowledge retention, and stakeholder satisfaction. Methods: A virtual curriculum was developed around Pediatric Surgery Milestones. GlobalCastMD delivered pre-recorded and live content over a single 10-h day with a concluding social hour. Metrics of learner engagement, faculty interaction, knowledge retention, and satisfaction were collected and analyzed during and after the course. Results: Of 56 PS residencies, 31 registered (55.4%; 8/8 Canadian and 23/48 US; p = 0.006), including 42 learners overall. The virtual BC budget was $15,500 (USD), 54% of the anticipated in-person course. Pre- and post-tests were administered, revealing significant knowledge improvement (48.6% [286/589] vs 66.9% [89/133] p < 0.0002). Learner surveys (n = 14) suggested the virtual BC facilitated fellowship transition (85%) and strengthened peer-group camaraderie (69%), but in-person events were still favored (77%). Program Directors (PD) were surveyed, and respondents (n = 22) also favored in-person events (61%). PDs not registering their learners (n = 7) perceived insufficient value-added and concern for excessive participants. Conclusions: The virtual bootcamp format reduced overall expenses, interfered less with schedules, achieved more inclusive reach, and facilitated content archiving. Musculoskeletal injuries during the "Initial Training Phase" (ITP) are a major medical problem faced by law enforcement agencies worldwide. Aiming to develop an injury prevention strategy, we examined the incidence, type, associated factors, and severity of injuries and secondarily tracked their evolution over time by batches in a police academy. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using prospectively collected injury data on 979 newly recruited male police cadets enrolled in eight batches between 2015 and 2023. Among the 376 injured participants (age: 18.1 ± 0.3 years, body-mass: 75.8 ± 12.5 kg, body-height: 173.7 ± 4.0 cm, body mass index [BMI]: 25.1 ± 4.1 kg·m -2 , body-fat percentage: 18.1% ± 5.1%), 405 injuries were recorded during the ITP. Musculoskeletal injury data were analyzed according to type, associated-factors, severity, and evolution across batches. Almost half of the recruits (41.4%) sustained at least one musculoskeletal injury. Based on injury frequency (39-69 case) and exposure time (20,944.5-43,006.5 hours per participant) indices, and with an implication of scientific training tips, the long-term follow-up over-batches showed that the injury incidence was decreased 2.5-fold from Batch 1 to Batch 8 ( p  < .0001). Most injuries occurred between Weeks 2 and 5 (80% cumulative). The most common injury type was medial tibial stress syndrome (36.0%), followed by iliotibial band syndrome (12.6%), and ankle sprain (10.4%). This injury profile aligns with previous studies on law enforcement recruits, although comparisons should be made cautiously due to variations in training programs and recruit characteristics between agencies. The most frequently reported perceived potential contributors of injuries were vitamin and mineral deficiencies (20.7%), overweight/obesity (19.1%), and harsh physical activities (13.0%). During ITP, almost half of the recruits sustained at least one musculoskeletal injury, most of them in the fourth week. Some of the major associated factors of injury could be controlled resulting in a potential reduction of the injury incidence by up to 2.5 times. With the development of technology in software design, computer programming is now prevalent in almost every aspect of modern business and daily life. A renewed focus on programming education is attracting workers’ attention and converting skills. In previous research, researchers found difficulties encountered while learning programming languages. In this study, we conduct a case study on Teknokasi startup to develop a curriculum based on customer satisfaction. In this study, data was collected through surveys, which is a qualitative method. The methods used to collect data are interviews and questionnaires. The results of this study indicated three iterations, and further research is required to improve curriculum development. In this iteration, we will use the scrum framework and OBE as a theoretical base. Using input from mentors and students, this study was able to develop the next curriculum and improve programming skills, especially targeted Javascript expertise in a short time frame. Further studies need to be performed to assess this curriculum's effectiveness.

Background: Established simulation-based ‘boot camps’ utilise adult learning theory to engage and teach technical and non-technical skills to medical graduates transitioning into residency or fellowship. However, the transition from trainee to the attending role has not been well studied. The primary aim of this study was to design and execute a simulation-based educational day, exposing senior trainees in paediatric anaesthesia to commonly encountered challenges and teaching critical technical skills relevant to their new role. Secondary aims included assessment of its value and relevance in early years of graduated fellows' new careers as attendings. Methods: An ‘attending boot camp’ day comprised the following: two crisis simulations, an otolaryngologist-taught cadaver cricothyroidotomy laboratory, and a difficult conversations workshop. There was a debriefing after each section. Data were collected using end-of-day and early-career e-mail surveys for five consecutive fellow cohorts from 2016 to 2020. Results: Forty fellows participated; overall feedback was positive. The end-of-day surveys revealed planned changes in practice for 89% (25/28) of fellows, and 54% (15/28) highlighted communication skills as ‘most beneficial’. Early-career follow-up surveys found 96% (23/24) identified increased confidence in skill acquisition because of the day; 79% (19/24) experienced scenarios in real life similar to those simulated. The qualitative analysis revealed four high-value themes: delegation, leadership, clinical skills, and difficult communication. Conclusions: The transition from senior trainee to attending physician remains under-researched. A tailored simulation-based ‘attending boot camp’ was feasible and valued and may be useful in bridging this transition. Participants identified leadership practice, life-saving technical skills, and difficult communication practice as valuable and relevant in their early careers.

Background: The concept of “see one, do one, teach one” raises concerns regarding patient safety in the intensive care unit (ICU) and highlights the need for prior preparation of residents/fellows for ICU rotation. This study assessed the need for an adult pre-ICU “boot camp” training course. Methods: An online questionnaire regarding the current ICU training and desirable course framework was distributed via e-mail to the ICU directors of 269 educational centers certified by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine. Results: The response rate was 39% (106/269). The number of residents/fellows undergoing ICU rotation was 5.5 (IQR 2-12)/ICU/year, and the majority (63%) were second to fourth year post-graduate residents and fellows. ICU directors opined that of the fundamental critical care skills, residents/fellows performed well or very well in only seven out of 29 skills (24%). Only 18% of the ICU directors had an established ICU training curriculum. Overall, 72% of the directors were interested in the boot camp. The desirable course framework was 3-5 hours per day with simulations and lectures. The core skills that directors considered as important to acquire during ICU rotation were central venous catheter insertion, tracheal intubation, defibrillation, initiation of mechanical ventilation, physical examination of critically ill patients, and shock assessment. Conclusions: Residents/fellows began ICU rotations with suboptimal skills as reported by ICU direc-tors. In addition, most of the ICUs had not established a training curriculum. Introduction: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an autonomous oncology boot camp on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) student knowledge. Secondary objectives included assessing student perception of the virtual learning experience and overall comfort level with the material. Methods: APPE students rotating through our institution between November 2019 and March 2020 were voluntarily enrolled in a 4-hour oncology-focused boot camp, which included five PlayPosit (Denver, CO, USA) interactive video lectures embedded with case-based application questions followed by one comprehensive web-based Quandary (Victoria, BC, Canada) action-maze case. Student learning was measured by a pre- and post-intervention exam. A web survey tool (Qualtrics, Provo, UT, USA) collected student perceptions evaluating their comfort with oncology-specific drug knowledge and APPE rotations tasks. Results: Fifty students enrolled in the oncology boot camp, with 100% completing the pre- and post-intervention assessments. Overall, pre-intervention exam scores (mean: 55.4%, SD: 21.8%) improved by 23.2% following the boot camp (mean: 78.6%, SD: 19.2%; p < 0.001). Students performed better on all 10 exam questions, with 6 questions showing a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.05). Forty-five students (90%) completed the perception surveys. Of those, 93% agreed that it effectively reinforced important oncology knowledge, 91% supported the autonomous design, and 82% would recommend the oncology boot camp for future students. Conclusion: The boot camp proved to be a beneficial educational tool that enhanced student knowledge and confidence in navigating common oncology concepts. Abstract Background The final months of the fourth-year of medical school are variable in educational and clinical experience, and the effect on clinical knowledge and preparedness for residency is unclear. Specialty-specific “bootcamps” are a growing trend in medical education aimed at increasing clinical knowledge, procedural skills, and confidence prior to the start of residency. Methods We developed a 4-week Emergency Medicine (EM) bootcamp offered during the final month of medical school. At the conclusion of the course, participants evaluated its impact. EM residency-matched participants and non-participants were asked to self-evaluate their clinical knowledge, procedural skills and confidence 1 month into the start of residency. Program directors were surveyed to assess participants and non-participants across the same domains. A Fisher’s exact test was performed to test whether responses between participants and non-participants were statistically different. Results From 2015 to 2018, 22 students participated in the bootcamp. The majority reported improved confidence, competence, and procedural skills upon completion of the course. Self-assessed confidence was significantly higher in EM-matched participants 1 month into residency compared to EM-matched non-participants (p = 0.009). Self-assessed clinical knowledge and procedural skill competency was higher in participants than non-participants but did not reach statistical significance. Program directors rated EM-matched participants higher in all domains but this difference was also not statistically significant. Conclusions Participation in an EM bootcamp increases self-confidence at the start of residency among EM-matched residents. EM bootcamps and other specialty-specific courses at the end of medical school may ease the transition from student to clinician and may improve clinical knowledge and procedural skills.

Wilderness medicine (WM) education is desired in Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship training. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, a virtual wilderness medicine boot camp was created to share a WM experience with learners across the United States. A previously led in-person WM boot camp was converted to lecture format and delivered through video conference. This covered information relevant to WM and the sports medicine certification exam. A post intervention survey was completed by 79.5% of participants (128/161). Participants rated the virtual experience positively. Objective: Surgical boot camps are becoming increasingly popular in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) residency programs. Despite pioneering virtual reality and simulation-based surgical education, these boot camps have lacked critical appraisal. The objective of this article was to examine the adoption and utility of surgical boot camps in OHNS residency training programs around the world. Data Sources: Ovid Medline and PubMed databases were systematically searched in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for scoping reviews. Additionally, a grey literature search was performed. Review Methods: Inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed publications and grey literature sources that reported on OHNS boot camps for the novice learner. The search was restricted to human studies published in English. Studies were excluded if they were not examining junior trainees. Results: A total of 551 articles were identified. Following removal of duplicates, screening, and full text review, 16 articles were included for analysis. Seven major boot camps were identified across various academic sites in the world. Most boot camps were one-day intensive camps incorporating a mixture of didactic, skill specific, and simulation sessions using an array of task trainers and high-fidelity simulators focusing on OHNS emergencies. Studies measuring trainee outcomes demonstrated improvement in trainee confidence, immediate knowledge, and skill acquisition. Conclusion: Surgical boot camps appear to be an effective tool for short term knowledge and skill acquisition. Further studies should examine retention of skill and maintenance of confidence over longer intervals, as little is known about these lasting effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Undergraduate exposure to urology is limited and junior doctors often feel underprepared for managing urological problems. We therefore established a one-day urology teaching course which covered the entire British Association of Urological Surgeons curriculum. Methods: Graduates of a teaching hospital undertook a survey regarding their practical skills and knowledge in urology (n =20), with responses compared to a sample of students who attended the boot camp (n =24). Results: Forty per cent of graduates thought they knew most of the curriculum and 0% knew the entire curriculum, increasing to 79.4% and 8.3%, respectively, in the post-boot camp cohort. Forty per cent felt 'mostly prepared' for final examinations, increasing to 70.8%; 35% rated their knowledge as 'good', increasing to 50%, with a further 12.5% feeling it was 'excellent'; 0% were 'very confident' in examination skills, increasing to 20.8%. One hundred per cent of students thought the boot camp helped in preparation for medical finals, 70.8% felt it better prepared them for foundation training. All course candidates thought the course increased their knowledge and skills in urology. Conclusion: This urology boot camp improves medical students' skills and knowledge. This course would benefit medical students nationally, providing comprehensive, standardised training in urology and preparing students for final examinations and foundation years. Introduction A new UK medical postgraduate curriculum prompted the creation of a novel national medical postgraduate 'boot camp'. An enhanced simulation-based mastery learning (SBML) methodology was created to deliver procedural skills teaching within this national boot camp. This study aimed to explore the impact of SBML in a UK medical boot camp. Methods One-hundred and two Scottish medical trainees attended a 3-day boot camp starting in August 2019. The novel enhanced SBML pathway entailed online pre-learning resources, deliberate practice, and simulation assessment and feedback. Data were gathered via pre- and post-boot camp questionnaires and assessment checklists. Results The vast majority of learners achieved the required standard of performance. Learners reported increased skill confidence levels, including skills not performed at the boot camp. Conclusion An enhanced SBML methodology in a boot camp model enabled streamlined, standardised procedural skill teaching to a national cohort of junior doctors. Boot camps in medical education have emerged as effective tools for addressing knowledge gaps and facilitating the integration of incoming residents into clinical training. We developed a pathology boot camp designed on a needs assessment survey, the graduated release of responsibility model, and active involvement of senior residents as educators. A comprehensive survey was administered to current first-year residents to assess educational needs to identify significant knowledge gaps and difficult areas. Based on these findings, a four-week, three-phase curriculum was developed, comprising introductory didactics, hands-on training, and mentorship under senior residents. Pre- and post-tests, as well as resident surveys, were used to evaluate the efficacy of the boot camp curriculum. Senior residents unanimously expressed the need for a boot camp, expressing challenges in histology, workflow, autopsy, and laboratory operations. Pre- and post-boot camp assessment tests showed a 15% knowledge improvement. Most pathology programs across the country have implemented structured pathology boot camps. The strengths of our boot camp included the emphasis on the previous year's residents' feedback, and the challenges that they encountered, serving as a comparison group; a graduated release of responsibility model; and the involvement of senior residents as designated mentors for the duration of the boot camp. The pathology boot camp presented here serves as a promising model for addressing foundational knowledge deficits among incoming residents. Introduction: To highlight the importance of hands-on experiences and mentorship in shaping the future workforce of specialized medical professionals via a Neurosurgery Training Camp., Methods: Responses of the questionnaire regarding the Neurosurgery Training Camp organized by Bursa Uludag University's Faculty of Medicine and the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy were reviewed retrospectively. A one-day program was organized to introduce neurosurgery to medical students. During the camp, the students participated in interactive presentations delivered by faculty members, had lunch together, became acquainted with neurosurgical tools and technologies, and performed interventions. With pre and postworkshop questionnaire, student's expectations and thoughts about camp was evaluated., Results: Forty-one students from 10 medical schools, spanning every year of study, attended the camp. Approximately 39% of the attendees ( n  = 16) were women and 61% ( n  = 25) were men. The post-workshop survey results demonstrated that 73% of the students ( n  = 30) were inclined to pursue a career in neurosurgery after the camp, 21.9% ( n  = 9) remained undecided, and 4.8% ( n  = 2) chose not to pursue neurosurgery. Feedback from the post-workshop questionnaire highlighted that all students perceived the camp as beneficial in providing insights into their future careers and aiding in making a decision regarding their career paths., Discussion: The neurosurgical training camp effectively inspired and educated medical students about the discipline of neurosurgery. For 10 years, the annual Houston Methodist Cardiovascular Fellows' Boot Camp hosted hundreds of cardiovascular trainees in Houston for a concise yet comprehensive 3-day training program for new fellows. The cornerstone of the program was the hands-on Skills Academy, which included a variety of timed learning stations that taught surgical techniques, dissection skills, and suturing techniques as well as echocardiography and cardiac catheterization using simulators. This was followed by 2 days of didactics covering essential topics in each specialty. However, that model was upended in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic forced the digitization of medical education and posed significant challenges as we transitioned Boot Camp to a virtual format. In this editorial, we review our experience designing and implementing a virtual cardiology track of the Houston Methodist Cardiovascular Fellows' Boot Camp and highlight challenges and proposed solutions in the era of virtual education. Introduction: Establishing a boot camp curriculum is pertinent for emergency medicine (EM) residents in order to develop proficiency in a large scope of procedures and leadership skills.  In this article, we describe our program’s EM boot camp curriculum as well as measure the confidence levels of resident physicians through a pre- and post-boot camp survey. Methods: We designed a one-month boot camp curriculum with the intention of improving the confidence, procedural performance, leadership, communication and resource management of EM interns. Our curriculum consisted of 12 hours of initial training and culminated in a two-day boot camp. The initial day consisted of clinical skill training and the second day included code drill scenarios followed by interprofessional debriefing.   Results: Twelve EM interns entered residency with an overall confidence score of 3.2 (1-5 scale) across all surveyed skills. Interns reported the highest pre-survey confidence scores in suturing (4.3) and genitourinary exams (3.9). The lowest pre-survey confidence score was in thoracostomy (2.4). Following the capstone experience, overall confidence scores increased to 4.0. Confidence increased the most in defibrillation and thoracostomy. Additionally, all interns reported post-survey confidence scores of at least 3.0 in all skills, representing an internal anchor of “moderately confident/need guidance at times to perform procedure.” Conclusion: At the completion of the boot camp curriculum, EM interns had improvement in self-reported confidence across all surveyed skills and procedures. The English Express and boot camp model aims to highlight misunderstood concepts of language learning, but the content of the English language is not the focus. Ekalavya model of language learning is adopted in the present study to remove the anxiety of learners. The focus of Ekalavya Boot Camp is to challenge the participants in a manner such that the impetus for rising to a higher level of English language proficiency emanates from them: the effort to improve is purely of their own volition. Three boot camps were organised at a gap of two months to monitor the cycle of learning, and enable the students to speak freely and fluently in familiar and unfamiliar situations. A total of hundred fifty engineering students from a multi-sector state private University in Odisha participated in the boot camp. The purposes of this research were to investigate the policing the best management practice in motorcycle youth gang in Thailand. This research was used mixed-method research. Quantitative sample groups included 400 police officers implementing preventive and subjugation measures to solve motorcycle gang problem in Bangkok, and qualitative include 25 administrators supervising in the same project including motorcycle youth gangs. A set up of questionnaires, in-deep interview and focus group were used. Findings showed that the overall average and leadership were high, pursued by teamwork, performance and restoration. The Royal Thai Police had been using prevention, extended investigation and suppression measures as guideline for Data analysis of illegal street race complaint cases, Arresting of page administrators and supporters, Investigating muffler shops selling non-certified TIS standard and extended to manufactory, Setting up check points to calibrate muffler noise, Controlling and seizure of unlawful motorcycles and arrest illegal riders, and having offensive riders to join boot-camp program so as to modify their behavior and attitude. This research conducted that they had been using integrated strategy with the integration by the government, private and public sectors, along with law enforcement and restoration. The suggestions were to apply law enforcement with parents, guardian or care provider of motorcycle gang members seriously, take legal action against manufacturer, possessor and distributor, assembler, and modifier of non-certified TIS standard motorcycle parts and accessories, along with illegal street race supporter. Besides, all sectors in the society needed to cooperate in strengthening the family institution. The policy suggestions were divided into 3 phases including; initial phase (monitoring and suppressing), middle phase (post-Arresting), increase training course time for children under 18 years old. For drug addicts, the police should provide drug addiction treatment at a military camp, and long-term phase, educational institutions should nurture proper attitude, value and belief to children and youth since childhood. A survey about orientations, boot camps, and pre-matriculation programs in schools/colleges of pharmacy was approved by the South College Institutional Review Board (IRB). The survey was sent electronically to Assistant/Associate Deans of Academic Affairs or administrators in similar positions at schools/colleges of pharmacy in October 2016. The survey was closed two months later, in December, with 50 responses. The data that was collected from the survey included characteristics and components of orientations, boot camps, and pre-matriculation programs, such as session content and the frequency sessions appeared. The survey also collected descriptive information from respondents regarding certain demographics related to their schools/colleges of pharmacy (e.g., public or private institutions, a 4-year program or a 3-year program). The data can be used by schools/colleges of pharmacy and other healthcare professions that wish to revise or establish orientations, boot camps, and pre-matriculation programs.
