Philippine DepEd Order (DO) #35, s. 2016, institutionalized the Learning Action Cell (LAC) in public schools. The policy’s key objective is to improve teachers’ teaching competence. Conversely, there needs to be more literature, specifically in the Davao City public schools, to account for its implementation since its inception. Thus, this study. The study aimed to propose a LAC implementation model for the Davao City public school’s division. It made use of qualitative, descriptive phenomenological research design. Ten (10) participants were involved, and they participated in the focus group discussion and key informant interviews. The proposed LAC implementation model focused on the students’ learning as its definitive goal. It can be realized if the teachers’ teaching skills are enhanced, and the LAC implementation is well implemented. Correspondingly, the proposed model emphasizes supportive leadership, teachers’ positive attitudes, well-defined roles and responsibilities, sufficient resources, systematic procedures, and well-disseminated policy. One of the study’s recommendations is for future researchers to study the impact of the continuous improvement model adopted in the implementation of LAC in the DepEd schools on the learning quality of the students and the school improvement. The objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of cash management practices of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Mandaluyong City. The research was conducted to identify if there is a significant difference in the assessment of cash management practices in MSEs groups. The MSEs were grouped according to years in operation, the number of employees, type of industry, capitalization, and the number of training sessions that employees can access. The study was conducted through descriptive research method using the prepared questionnaires. The researcher tabulated the result to generate statistical figures to test the hypothesis. The statement of the problem created by the researcher was answered by testing the hypothesis with the assumed level of significance of 0.05. The results of this study, the conclusion and recommendations are made based on the statistical tools used by the researcher. These are frequency distribution, percentage distribution, ranking, weighted mean, and analysis of variance. In conclusion, the majority of the respondents are operating for three or fewer years, has three or fewer employees, and are engaged in trading. They usually have a capitalization of ₱3,000,000 and below and provide their employees with 3 and fewer training sessions. Additionally, the assessments of the respondents on the effectiveness of cash management practices, in the aspects of Cash Planning, Cash Budgeting, Cash Collection, and Cash Disbursement was "Effective." Third, there was no significant difference in each group's assessment of Cash Planning, Cash Budgeting, Cash Collection, and Cash Disbursement. However, there was a significant difference in assessments among MSEs grouped according to the number of training sessions that their employees can access.

This book aims to discuss some aspects of the relationship between social change, religion and women’s lives and self-definition in the contemporary world. Using international and interdisciplinary perspectives reflective of different religious traditions, this collection pays attention to the specific experiences and positions of women, or particular groups of women, to understand current patterns of religiosity and religious change. This book aims to fill existing gaps by adding new knowledge to the existing body of literature on academic research on the dynamic relationship between women and religion, and on the contemporary and future challenges posed by women’s changes to religion – in different parts of the world and among different religious traditions and practices.

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss women’s contribution to interfaith dialogue in the Mediterranean area. The Mediterranean region – usually depicted as both a uniform region and a highly problematic area, where conflicts and migration flows pose considerable risks to the security of the entire region – is a challenge to policy makers and institutions. This edited collection provides interdisciplinary, global, and multi-religious perspectives on the relationship between women’s identities, religion, and social change in the contemporary world. The book discusses the experiences and positions of women, and particular groups of women, to understand patterns of religiosity and religious change. It also addresses the current and future challenges posed by women’s changes to religion in different parts of the world and among different religious traditions and practices. The contributors address a diverse range of themes and issues including the attitudes of different religions to gender equality; how women construct their identity through religious activity; whether women have opportunity to influence religious doctrine; and the impact of migration on the religious lives of both women and men. The 12 chapters included in this book – written by senior and junior leading scholars from different continents – Asia, North and South America, and Europe – present unique studies to explore tensions and opportunities in the intersection of the different concepts: gender, gender equality, religion, activism, feminism and social change. By using a variety of ‘qualitative’ and ‘quantitative’ methods, the authors address a number of questions: What are the present attitudes of different religions to gender equality? How do women construct their identity through religious activity? Is there a way to reconcile faith and feminism? Do these processes change within different religious traditions? How are contemporary processes of change affecting religious identities and practices for women and men in different contexts?

Reliable quantification of white matter hyperintensities of presumed vascular origin (WMHs) is increasingly needed, given the presence of these MRI findings in patients with several neurological and vascular disorders, as well as in elderly healthy subjects. We present BIANCA (Brain Intensity AbNormality Classification Algorithm), a fully automated, supervised method for WMH detection, based on the k-nearest neighbour (k-NN) algorithm. Relative to previous k-NN based segmentation methods, BIANCA offers different options for weighting the spatial information, local spatial intensity averaging, and different options for the choice of the number and location of the training points. BIANCA is multimodal and highly flexible so that the user can adapt the tool to their protocol and specific needs. We optimised and validated BIANCA on two datasets with different MRI protocols and patient populations (a "predominantly neurodegenerative" and a "predominantly vascular" cohort). BIANCA was first optimised on a subset of images for each dataset in terms of overlap and volumetric agreement with a manually segmented WMH mask. The correlation between the volumes extracted with BIANCA (using the optimised set of options), the volumes extracted from the manual masks and visual ratings showed that BIANCA is a valid alternative to manual segmentation. The optimised set of options was then applied to the whole cohorts and the resulting WMH volume estimates showed good correlations with visual ratings and with age. Finally, we performed a reproducibility test, to evaluate the robustness of BIANCA, and compared BIANCA performance against existing methods. Our findings suggest that BIANCA, which will be freely available as part of the FSL package, is a reliable method for automated WMH segmentation in large cross-sectional cohort studies.

BACKGROUND: We have previously shown that increased resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)-based functional connectivity (FC) within the frontal resting-state networks in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients reflects residual, possibly compensatory, function. This suggests that symptomatic treatments should aim to enhance FC specifically in these networks. METHODS: 18 patients with probable AD underwent brain MRI and neuropsychological assessment at baseline and after 12 weeks of treatment with donepezil. We tested if changes in cognitive performance after treatment correlated with changes in FC in resting-state networks known to be altered in AD. RESULTS: We found increases in FC in the orbitofrontal network that correlated with cognitive improvement after treatment. The increased FC was greatest in patients who responded most to treatment. CONCLUSION: This 'proof of concept' study suggests that changes in network-specific FC might be a biomarker of pharmacological intervention efficacy in AD.

The present investigation, the first in the field, was aimed at analyzing differentially, on individual samples, the effects of 55 days of horizontal bed rest, a model for microgravity, on myosin heavy and myosin light chain isoforms distribution (by SDS) and on the proteome (by 2-D DIGE and MS) in the vastus lateralis (VL), a mixed type II/I (∼50:50%) head of the quadriceps and in the calf soleus (SOL), a predominantly slow (∼35:65%) twitch muscle. Two separate studies were performed on six subjects without (BR) and six with resistive vibration exercise (RVE) countermeasures, respectively. Both VL and SOL underwent in BR decrements of ∼15% in cross-sectional area and of ∼22% in maximal torque that were prevented by RVE. Myosin heavy chain distribution showed increased type I and decreased type IIA in BR both in VL and in SOL, the opposite with RVE. A substantial downregulation of proteins involved in aerobic metabolism characterized both in SOL and VL in BR. RVE reversed the pattern more in VL than in SOL, whereas proteins involved in anaerobic glycolysis were upregulated. A variety of experimental tests were made with a Gewa-T finned surface in Freon-113 to assist in understanding the physical mechanisms which occur during nucleate pool boiling from this type of surface. The influence of the channels between neighboring T-shaped fins was examined with the use of four aluminum shrouds which had top and bottom windows of various apertures, and which were fitted tightly over the Gewa-T surface. The influence of the fins was examined by progressively machining away the fin height to arrive at a smooth cylindrical surface.

A variety of experimental tests were made with a Gewa-T finned surface in Freon-113 to assist in understanding the physical mechanisms which occur during nucleate pool boiling from this type of surface. The influence of the channels between neighboring T-shaped fins was examined with the use of four aluminum shrouds which had top and bottom windows of various apertures, and which were fitted tightly over the Gewa-T surface. The influence of the fins was examined by progressively machining away the fin height to arrive at a smooth cylindrical surface. The application of the shrouds increased the heat transfer coefficient at low heat fluxes by as much as 153 percent, but decreased the heat transfer coefficient at high heat fluxes when compared to the unshrouded surface. The addition of the "T-caps" to straight fins produced the most significant improvement in heat transfer performance when compared to a smooth tube. Based upon these results, it appears that the heat transfer performance of the Gewa-T surface is mainly influenced by the effect of the channels created by neighboring T-shaped fins.
