Purpose: This study was done to explore recognition of accreditation for nursing education, job satisfaction and intention to change teaching area for faculty in Fundamentals of Nursing. Methods: Participants were 104 faculty members teaching Fundamentals of Nursing. Each participant responded to a questionnaire. Data were collected from June 25 to October 25, 2016, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0 for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The participants’ recognition of accreditation in nursing education was 3.45±0.81 out of 5 and in the sub-items, the score for quality improvement in professors in Fundamentals of Nursing was lowest at 3.21±1.03. Job satisfaction was 3.30±5.30, and intention to change teaching area was 2.62±1.00. Attributes related to practice appear to be major reasons why participants intended to change their teaching area and scores for intention to change teaching area were medium or higher. Conclusion: Results indicate that it is necessary to develop strategies to improve job satisfaction and reduce intention to change teaching area for faculty with less experience in Fundamentals of Nursing education. Development of strategies, management and support are needed to improve young professors" job satisfaction and reduce intention to change teaching area.

The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of exercise adherence when exercise motivation was empowered. It was planned as a pretest-posttest nonequivalent quasi-experimental design. The study subjects were female college students who wanted exercise and agreed to participate in the Jane Fonda Workout Program (1982) for a period of six months. The subject sample was divided into an experimental group and a control group by college department to prevent contamination of the intervention, which promotes long-term exercise-program adherence through the EMPOWER Step Program. All subjects' body composition and physical fitness were measured using the Inbody (520) Body Composition Analyzer and Helmas (Korea) measuring equipment. Cronbach's α, t-test, odds ratio and analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program. According to the results the experimental group showed a 66.66% exercise adherence success rate and the control group showed only a 26.31% success rate (OR= 5.60, P= 0.01; t= 2.932, P= 0.006). Skeletal muscle mass was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (F= 8.45, P= 0.006). Body fat mass decreased significantly more in the experimental group than in the control group (F= 6.08 P= 0.01). Empowered motivation has positive effects on adherence to exercise regimes and physical fitness in female college students. Therefore it is suggested to actively utilize the EMPOWER Step Program to foster long-term exercise.

This study was conducted in order to develop an aptitude test for child care teachers (ATCCT) and to analyze it in terms of both validity and reliability. The main participants in this study consisted of 710 pre-service child care teachers. The results of factor analysis identified 7 factors and 56 items which were selected from 121 items in the original scale. The seven factors were as follows; interpersonal relationship management abilities, receptiveness and responsiveness to children, creativity and personal development, the ability to form close relationships with children, the ability to supervise child safety, the sense of duty, and positive emotions. The four factors were related to social relationship. Criterion-related validity was established by using correlations between the ATCCT and the TSES (Teacher Self-efficacy Scale). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among professional self-concept, critical thinking disposition and clinical competence in nursing students. Method: The participants in the study were 505 nursing students, 262 associate degree nursing students and 243 baccalaureate nursing students, all in schools in Gwangju or South Jeonla Province. A questionnaire survey was conducted from April 25 to May 27, 2011. Statistical processing was performed with SPSS 18.0 Version and the data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheff test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple stepwise regression. Results: There was a positive correlation among clinical competence and professional self-concept, critical thinking disposition. The most effective factor for clinical competence was professional practice in professional self-concept, followed by prudence and objectivity in critical thinking disposition. The total explanation of clinical competence was 46.2%. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate confirm that professional self-concept and critical thinking disposition have an effect on clinical competence in nursing students. Accordingly in order to improve clinical competence, it is necessary to provide practice environment and educational curriculum that enhance the professional self-concept and critical thinking disposition of nursing students.

The purpose of this study is on the effect of the Baduk play activity upon a child's intelligence, problem solving and delay of gratification. 68 participants (36 from the test group and 32 from the regulation group) were selected from 5 year old children who attend two elementary school annexed kindergartens for a pre-test and post-test in order to verify the effect of the Baduk play activity. The Baduk play activity was applied to the test group 3 times a week from the 3rd week of March, 2008 until the 3rd week of October, 2008. In this study, K-WPPSI, CPS and delay of gratification test were used to measure the effect of the activity. As a result, it can be construed that the Baduk play activity gives children a more positive influence upon their activity and overall IQ, ability of problem- solving and delay of gratification.

The purpose of this study is to examine the infant-teacher interaction and its possible effects. The subjects of this study were 24 child-care teachers from Jungup City, Korea. Among them, 12 teachers participated m the program as an experimental group. The program processed 8 sessions in total, a session a week and 90 minutes for each session. The data was collected by questionnaires of infant-teacher interactions and videotapes of their linguistic and behavioral interactions between infants and teachers. The collected data was analyzed by t-tests, wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and video content analysis. As a result, the teachers in the experimental group showed more significant enhancement than teachers in the comparison group in relation to the post-test of positive linguistic interactions between infant and teacher and teacher' positive reaction.

Background: Asthma is a major health problem worldwide, and the morbidity and mortality caused by asthma are on the rise. Corticosteroid therapies for asthma treatment frequently induce many side effects. Therefore, the development of new medicines that have both high efficacy and fewer side effects has been a scientific challenge. Here we tested the effect of ginsan, a polysaccharide derived from Panax ginseng, against allergic reaction in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced murine asthmatic model in comparison with dexamethasone, and investigated its underlying mechanism. Methods: To induce murine asthma, mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA. Ginsan or dexamethasone was administered by injection 3 times a week. Airway hyperresponsiveness, airway inflammation and lung pathology were assessed in order to evaluate the effect of ginsan against asthma. Results: Ginsan treatment reduced airway hyperresponsiveness, remodeling and eosinophilia. These effects of ginsan were equivalent to those of dexamethasone. Ginsan treatment decreased the IL-5 level in the supernatant of cultured splenocytes, while IFN-γ and serum IgE were not altered. To elucidate the mechanism of ginsan, expression of inflammation-related genes were screened. Interestingly, ginsan treatment upregulated cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 mRNA, and expression of their proteins in the lung were also increased. PGE2 in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was also increased by the ginsan treatment. Lastly, ginsan inhibited the allergic reaction aggravated by COX inhibitor (indomethacin). Conclusion: Ginsan has anti-asthmatic effects, which seem to be partially mediated by enhancing the synthesis of COX gene products.
