Nowadays, the gold standard for the diagnosis of liver disease is histological examination. However, due to the dangers and complications of liver biopsy, there is a worldwide demand for the development of non-invasive procedures that can accurately determine the degree of hepatic steatosis, furthermore is cost-effective, user-friendly, and provides repeatable measurement. Based on the metrological experience of our research team, we started developing an electrical impedance-based diagnostic method a few years ago that meets these requirements and is suitable for early detection of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with the help of a worldnew measurement and data collection solution. In addition to the preliminar results of the long-term clinical validation of the diagnostic method developed to detect NAFLD, the authors present early partial results. Even with the small amount of data, very impressive results have been obtained.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide, it is the primary cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality. The prevalence of the disease is estimated as high as 25% of the general population up to 90% of obese and diabetic patients. Most patients are asymptomatic or does not experience specific complaints making them difficult to diagnose and treat. However, due to the limitations of available diagnostic procedures and the current gold standard for diagnosis, the liver biopsy, there is a worldwide demand to develop a non-invasive diagnostic tool and procedure that can detect the disease with high accuracy at an early reversible stage, furthermore is cost-effective, user-friendly, and provides repeatable measurement. Based on the metrological experience of our research team, we started developing an electrical impedance-based diagnostic procedure a few years ago that meets these requirements and is suitable for early detection of NAFLD with the help of a world-new measurement and data collection solution. In this article, we present the most important milestones in the development of instruments related to research.

A central goal of systems neuroscience is to simultaneously measure the activities of all achievable neurons in the brain at millisecond resolution in freely moving animals. This paper describes a protocol converter which is part of a measurement acquisition system for multichannel real time recording of brain signals. In practice, in such techniques, a primary consideration of reliability leads to great necessity towards increasing the sampling rate of these signals while simultaneously increasing the resolution of A/D conversion to 24 bits or even to the unprecedented 32 bits per sample. In fact, this was the guiding principle for our team in the present study. The publication presents a three wheeled robot that has been designed to map rooms, halls and other indoor areas. The device uses an ultrasonic sensor for measuring distance, which is later used for both navigation and obstacle detection. Data were used later to compose a matrix – the schematic map of the room. This map could be uploaded to the cloud for later use by other 3rd party devices so they do not have to redo the mapping process again.

Intelligent systems often show incompatibility between healthcare levels. The work of medical professionals on each stage is often individual; multilevel interdisciplinary consultations, consilia, diagnostic and a coordinated approach is limited by existing differences. The aim of this work is to point out potential benefits of integrating healthcare levels on the basis of intelligent systems.

In education today distance education students can easily integrate into almost all types of classes except when it comes to laboratory measurements. The laboratory measurements require physical presence of the student in the laboratory. When physical presence of the students is not possible the only way to perform the measurements is to alter the exercises to compensate for deficiency in equipment for remote access which results in separate exercises for distance education students. The purpose of this research was to find ways to integrate the distance education students into the laboratory for mechatronical measurements, without the physical presence or altering the laboratory exercise so regular and distance education students can attend to the same classes. The equipment is comprised of web cameras, National Instruments hardware and graphical user interface for remote access.

This paper deals with the failures of successful interaction between medical hardware, software and personnel which ultimately leads to medical errors; their correlation to medical legal consequences, costs, usability and safety discussing possible amendments. The present work besides presenting a multilevel and interdisciplinary theoretical and practical approach, researched practical cases having direct influence on morbidity and mortality.

Medical informatics finds wide use on all the levels of healthcare. Intelligent medical systems are successfully applied at all 5 degrees of preserving health: the promotion of health, specific medical prevention, early diagnosis and therapy, sequel prevention and rehabilitation. In conditions of intensive changes and development, when the Serbian healthcare system is in the process of radical reorganization, especially in the present year of 2012, new challenges and needs are created for the implementation of newer, more modern intelligent systems on all the levels of health care. The present work is dealing with the analysis of benefits and challenges which are the result of applied and planned information systems in our country.

Additional adjustment to this hardware, primarily dictated by the software, led to the possibility of improving the methods and the speed in which the students absorb the new knowledge. Currently there are no standardized solutions in the education that regulates use of the electronic devices as aid in the classes. The proposed system incorporates not only custom-designed devices for the education but also allows the integration with available technical solutions.

Neuro-fuzzy systems are widely used in both applied and experimental medicine and are one of the most modern subjects of today's Medical Informatics. Despite the initial refuse of their use due to informatical, economical, educational and other reasons, these systems are widely accepted in medical institutions operating in all levels of healthcare. The accuracy of some up-to-date neuro-fuzzy systems today matches or even surpasses the diagnostic abilities of physicians, thus holding an important role in risk-assessment and diagnostics in medicine. This work deals with newer applications of these systems in medicine along with the possibility of their implementation in the region of Central Europe.

This paper presents a practical solution for monitoring students in education. This was achieved by the utilization of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The RFID system was integrated with the server database through Ethernet network. The database was developed in such a manner that it allows the examination of students activities in order to improve the quality of classes. Using the system described in this article will make it considerably easier to achieve a better insight into students activities which will ultimately led to better understanding of their needs.

In computer networks data flows can often reach transfer rates of several Gigabits per second. On the other hand most embedded systems have additional criteria — power consumption, size, low cost, generated heat — which usually means that even a flow rate of several Megabits per second is difficult to reach. This paper reports on the development of an automated embedded system for data transfers of up to 47Mib/s using two customized embedded 68k/Coldfire RISC microprocessors.

In modern robotics path finding is usually done by storing 3D models of objects into robots memory so the robot can compare the object in front of the camera with the model in its memory while it is trying to navigate between obstacles. With this approach we need 3D model of every object the robot may come into contact with, which is possible only if we confine the robot to a known environment. This paper proposes that path finding for mobile robots be based on 3D extraction of a 2D image edge detection and infrared (IR) distance measuring sensor.

All of the state-of-the-art systems are statistical data-driven systems that rely on training to model our ignorance about speech which result in enormous memory and processor consumption. Those solutions can not be easily integrated in embedded systems like e.g. as interface for human-robotic interaction. In this paper, an isolated word recognition system has been developed for communication with mobile robot. Presented algorithm is based on phoneme recognition by identifying characteristics of each phoneme which means that it's not based on statistical ASR (not based on HMM-hidden Markov model or ANN-artificial neural network). Final goal of this project is developing a speaker and language independent phoneme recognition platform for use in embedded systems with low power and memory consumption.
