10. Isolation and characterization of lactose and non-lactose fermenting bacteria from tertiary care hospital and their antimicrobial susceptibility test

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to identify the fermenting and non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria from the tertiary care hospital. Methods: The conventional method of identification by biochemical analysis and antibiotic susceptibility test was performed by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Furthermore, analysis of microbes was done by Vitek-2. Results: 424 strains of lactose fermenting Gram-negative bacilli (LFGNB) and non-LFGNB (NLFGNB) were isolated from 3097 clinical samples. From the total LF bacteria, Escherichia coli was the predominant isolate accounting for 50.94% specimens, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae 27.59% and Enterobacter 0.47%. From the total NLFGNB, Acinetobacter baumannii was the predominant isolate accounting for 12.73% specimens followed by Pseudomonas aeroginosa 6.13%, other isolates were Stenotrophomonas maltophilia 1.17%, Burkholderia cepacia 0.94%. In the present study, male were more infected than female. The study also showed that LF bacteria were more infectious than non LF bacteria and isolates were from urine samples. Conclusion: Both NLFGNB and LFGNB Gram-negative bacilli were found to be major contaminants, and are important pathogenic bacteria causing a wide range of infections in the tertiary care hospital.

Abstract

31st European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 2588-2591, Soiling loss adversely impacts the performance of solar PV systems. Several studies have researched the role of tilt angle, composition of dust particles etc. in an effort to understand soiling losses better. However, most studies have focused on one technology at a time and little is known about how different PV technologies perform under the same dust conditions in rooftop installations in urban area. This study conducted over a period of one month compares soiling losses in four solar PV technologies - Poly-crystalline, Mono-crystalline, Hetro junction Intrinsic thin film (HIT) and Cd-Te thin film - placed on a rooftop in Bangalore, India, and concluded that which one is most suitable for similar urban environments full of air pollutants in India. The results show that Cd-Te Technology has the highest soiling losses of about 10.88% at the end of first week while poly silicon has the lowest soiling loss 4.21%. Abstract

Zr(OPri)(4)center dot(PrOH)-O-i] reacts with [HOSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)] in anhydrous benzene in 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 molar ratios to afford alkoxy zirconosiloxane precursors of the types [Zr(OPri)(3){OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}] (A) and [Zr(OPri)(2){OSi-((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}(2)] (B), respectively. Further reactions of A or B with glycols in 1 : 1 molar ratio afforded six chemically modified precursors of the types [Zr(OPri)(OGO){OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}] (1A-3A) and [Zr(OGO)-{OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}(2)] (1B-3B), respectively [where G = (-CH2-)(2) (1A, 1B); (-CH2-)(3) (2A, 2B) and (-CH2CH2CH(CH3-)} (3A, 3B)]. The precursors A and B are viscous liquids, which solidify on ageing whereas the other products are all solids, soluble in common organic solvents. These were characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight measurements, FAB mass, FTIR, H-1, C-13 and Si-29-NMR studies. Cryoscopic molecular weight measurements of all the products, as well as the FAB mass studies of 3A and 3B, indicate their monomeric nature. However, FAB mass spectrum of the solidified B suggests that it exists in dimeric form. Single crystal structure analysis of [Zr{OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}(4)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2H(2)O (3b) (R-fac = 11.9%) as well as that of corresponding better quality crystals of [Ti((OBu)-Bu-t){OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3)}(3)] (4) (R-fac = 5.97%) indicate the presence of a M-O-Si bond. TG analyses of 3A, B, and 3B indicate the formation of zirconia-silica materials of the type ZrO2 center dot SiO2 from 3A and ZrO2 center dot 2SiO(2) from B or 3B at low decomposition temperatures (

Abstract

In order to assess palatability, digestibility and health performance, feeding trials of Prosopis juliflora pods powder containing concentrate mixture were conducted on lactating Tharparkar cattle over the year. Eight lactating cows were divided into control (CG) and treatment (TG) groups. CG cows were fed traditional concentrate mixture in their diet, however, TG cows were fed concentrate mixture prepared utilizing Prosopis juliflora pods powder mixed with other locally available feed resources of arid region. The DMI/100 kg b. wt. was 2.85 and 3.0 kg for CG and TG groups, respectively. The digestibility coefficient of ration was comparable between the groups and the DM digestibility coefficient was 62.23 and 63.07 % for CG and TG groups, respectively. The water intake/animal/day was 45.0 ± 0.38 and 44.0 ± 0.77 litres for CG and TG groups, respectively. Haemato-biochemical parameters remained unaffected. The results revealed comparable palatability and digestibility of Prosopis juliflora included diet with fairly good nutritive value. The inclusion of Prosopis juliflora pods in concentrate mixture had no adverse effect on the health of lactating Tharparkar cattle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The available models and experimental results used in the description of magnetic order phenomena have been recently summarized in several papers. Among the materials showing low-dimensional magnetism, fluorides are of great interest as they provide examples for most of the different theoretical models. This article emphasizes the relationships between crystallographic features and dimensionality of the magnetic interactions in fluorides. The involved compounds are characterized by rings, chains, layers and three-dimensional arrangements of fluorinated MF6 octahedra. Abstract

The spectral and magnetic properties of simple high spin cobalt(II) complexes are reviewed with the aim of showing how it is possible to relate the experimental data to the electronic structure and the coordination geometry of the complexes. It is hoped that this may be of help to all researchers who need to characterize cobalt(II) complexes or use cobalt(II) as a spectroscopic probe. The data relative to electronic, EPR, MCD, NMR spectra as well as to magnetic susceptibility measurements are interpreted within an Angular Overlap approach. Energy level diagrams are employed to calculate the electronic spectra and then, applying the relevant perturbation μ, g, A values are calculated for different chromophores in different coordination environments. The underlying theory is sketched paying in every case much attention to show the possibility of calculating the electronic properties in low symmetry environments. Abstract

An account of the quantum theory of the molecular hypothesis for chemical substances is presented, and is used as a basis for a critical discussion of the theory of natural optical activity. Atoms and molecules are characterized as composite elementary excitations (or quasi-particles) of the macroscopic quantum-mechanical system we call matter, and the spontaneously broken space inversion symmetry revealed by the existence of optical isomerism is studied in this context. Special attention is paid to the representation of the space-inversion operator {ie1-1}. Finally a variety of microscopic quantum theories of natural optical activity are critically reviewed.
