Protective clothing for persons exposed to radiation is especially important in the medical area. Currently used lead aprons are excellent protective devices. However, they do not support any textile comfort. For development of a new type of protective clothing the whole textile chain from fiber production to the clothing realization is now taken into account. It will be presented that composite fibers from cellulose and inorganic x-ray absorbers are used to prepare various clothing samples which contain a reduced x-ray transmission. Areas of application as well as possible methods for improvement are also mentioned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
