Domestication of horses fundamentally transformed long-range mobility and warfare1. However, modern domesticated breeds do not descend from the earliest domestic horse lineage associated with archaeological evidence of bridling, milking and corralling2-4 at Botai, Central Asia around 3500 BC3. Other longstanding candidate regions for horse domestication, such as Iberia5 and Anatolia6, have also recently been challenged. Thus, the genetic, geographic and temporal origins of modern domestic horses have remained unknown. Here we pinpoint the Western Eurasian steppes, especially the lower Volga-Don region, as the homeland of modern domestic horses. Furthermore, we map the population changes accompanying domestication from 273 ancient horse genomes. This reveals that modern domestic horses ultimately replaced almost all other local populations as they expanded rapidly across Eurasia from about 2000 BC, synchronously with equestrian material culture, including Sintashta spoke-wheeled chariots. We find that equestrianism involved strong selection for critical locomotor and behavioural adaptations at the GSDMC and ZFPM1 genes. Our results reject the commonly held association7 between horseback riding and the massive expansion of Yamnaya steppe pastoralists into Europe around 3000 BC8,9 driving the spread of Indo-European languages10. This contrasts with the scenario in Asia where Indo-Iranian languages, chariots and horses spread together, following the early second millennium BC Sintashta culture11,12.

7. Toughness Characteristics of Microfiber-Based Geopolymer Concrete Voided Slabs under Soft Impact.

- Abstract
The present study aimed to experimentally and numerically analyze voided geopolymer concrete slabs applied with soft impact through a drop-hammer impact setup. Six slabs (600 mm ×600 mm × 115 mm) were cast using geopolymer concrete. Two were cast as solid slabs and the remaining four slabs were cast as voided slabs by placing a 70 mm diameter spherical void formers in two different patterns. Two patterns of void formers are followed as 70 mm void former at 240 mm spacing and 70 mm void former at 120 mm spacing. Micro steel fiber at a dosage of 1 % by volume fraction was added in companion specimens in each case. The placing of void former reduced the self-weight of the slabs by 6 % and 12.6 %, respectively, compared to solid slabs. The soft impact was achieved by releasing a 4.5 kg steel ball from a fall height of 0.457 m in a fabricated soft impact test frame. A similar soft impact test was accomplished numerically using the analysis system (ANSYS) workbench. Parametric analysis shows that when compared to fiber-reinforced solid slabs, the impact resistance of fiber-reinforced voided slabs with 70 mm void former at 240 mm was enhanced. The enhancement percentage for energy absorption, ductility index, and ultimate crack resistance were 34.05 %, 55.26 %, and 9.68 %, respectively. - Abstract
Modern humans have populated Europe for more than 45,000 years1,2. Our knowledge of the genetic relatedness and structure of ancient hunter-gatherers is however limited, owing to the scarceness and poor molecular preservation of human remains from that period3. Here we analyse 356 ancient hunter-gatherer genomes, including new genomic data for 116 individuals from 14 countries in western and central Eurasia, spanning between 35,000 and 5,000 years ago. We identify a genetic ancestry profile in individuals associated with Upper Palaeolithic Gravettian assemblages from western Europe that is distinct from contemporaneous groups related to this archaeological culture in central and southern Europe4, but resembles that of preceding individuals associated with the Aurignacian culture. This ancestry profile survived during the Last Glacial Maximum (25,000 to 19,000 years ago) in human populations from southwestern Europe associated with the Solutrean culture, and with the following Magdalenian culture that re-expanded northeastward after the Last Glacial Maximum. Conversely, we reveal a genetic turnover in southern Europe suggesting a local replacement of human groups around the time of the Last Glacial Maximum, accompanied by a north-to-south dispersal of populations associated with the Epigravettian culture. From at least 14,000 years ago, an ancestry related to this culture spread from the south across the rest of Europe, largely replacing the Magdalenian-associated gene pool. After a period of limited admixture that spanned the beginning of the Mesolithic, we find genetic interactions between western and eastern European hunter-gatherers, who were also characterized by marked differences in phenotypically relevant variants. 11. Hierarchical configuration design of PAN/Gr@MWCNTs composite film with superior electromagnetic shielding and excellent joule heating via in-situ sedimentation strategy

With the rapid development of 5G communication technology, the surge in the number of antenna modules for intelligent terminal equipment has led to the intensification of electromagnetic radiation and interference problems, posing a major threat to electronic equipment safety, information systems stability, and human health. Traditional electromagnetic shielding materials have made it difficult to meet the demand for intelligent, integrated electronics. In this study, we proposed an in-situ sedimentation strategy to fabricate flexible polyacrylonitrile/graphene@multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PAN/Gr@MWCNTs) composite film with hierarchical double-layered structures, thus realizing ultra-thin, highly conductive, and excellent electromagnetic shielding and Joule heating properties. Particularly, the as-formed hierarchical film possessed an ultra-thin thickness of 0.158 mm and a high conductivity of 1660.26 S/m, simultaneously accompanied by an electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) of 42.82 dB and a specific shielding efficiency (SSE) of 271.01 dB/mm. In addition, the film exhibited excellent Joule heating capability in the voltage range of 1.50–2.25 V. This study provides innovative ideas for developing flexible electromagnetic shielding films, which are of great scientific significance and potential application in electromagnetic radiation protection.

12. Early dissociation of polyethylene liner and catastrophic implant failure in primary total hip arthroplasty

- Abstract
Metallosis is an uncommon but relevant phenomenon in total hip arthroplasty involving trunnionosis of the contact surfaces. It is understood as the release and deposition of metallic particles (chromium, cobalt and tungsten alloys) in the adjacent tissue, causing inflammation, chronic pain, osteolysis and even implant failure. This reaction brings about new arthroplasty revision surgeries that often present a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon and an increase in morbimortality. In this report, we present the case of a 61-year-old female patient with a left sub-capital hip fracture who underwent total hip arthroplasty with continued post-operative pain and dysfunction. A revision arthroplasty was performed 16 months later showing abundant metallosis of the surrounding tissues in addition to dissociation of the polyethylene liner with no apparent cup damage, for which head and liner exchange was performed. Due to failure of symptom improvement, a new revision arthroplasty was performed 6 months later consisting of a dual mobility cup replacement and a ceramic-on-ceramic bearing couple. Although this complication rarely affects metal-on-polyethylene contact surfaces, it has been consistently demonstrated that it is not exclusive to metal-on-metal contact surfaces, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach between surgeons and implant registries to guide operative treatment as well as understanding component design.

- Abstract
Domestication of horses fundamentally transformed long-range mobility and warfare1. However, modern domesticated breeds do not descend from the earliest domestic horse lineage associated with archaeological evidence of bridling, milking and corralling2–4 at Botai, Central Asia around 3500 bc3. Other longstanding candidate regions for horse domestication, such as Iberia5 and Anatolia6, have also recently been challenged. Thus, the genetic, geographic and temporal origins of modern domestic horses have remained unknown. Here we pinpoint the Western Eurasian steppes, especially the lower Volga-Don region, as the homeland of modern domestic horses. Furthermore, we map the population changes accompanying domestication from 273 ancient horse genomes. This reveals that modern domestic horses ultimately replaced almost all other local populations as they expanded rapidly across Eurasia from about 2000 bc, synchronously with equestrian material culture, including Sintashta spoke-wheeled chariots. We find that equestrianism involved strong selection for critical locomotor and behavioural adaptations at the GSDMC and ZFPM1 genes. Our results reject the commonly held association7 between horseback riding and the massive expansion of Yamnaya steppe pastoralists into Europe around 3000 bc8,9 driving the spread of Indo-European languages10. This contrasts with the scenario in Asia where Indo-Iranian languages, chariots and horses spread together, following the early second millennium bc Sintashta culture11,12. © 2021, The Author(s).

15. Limb salvage versus amputation: Experience of a young patient at a university hospital

- Abstract
Decision-making regarding limb amputation represents a significant clinical challenge, especially when the initial evaluation does not coincide with the criteria established in scales used worldwide, as is the case of the MESS scale. This article presents the case of a 24-year-old female patient who was transferred to a university hospital after a road traffic accident with severe and large lesions in the left lower limb. Despite a poor initial prognosis and in-hospital complications, including multiple surgical procedures and foot drop, a favorable recovery was achieved with complete anatomical salvage of the limb at risk. The multidisciplinary approach and intensive rehabilitation were instrumental in achieving a satisfactory functional recovery. This case highlights the importance of considering factors beyond amputation scale scores, as well as the need for comprehensive care to improve outcomes in patients with complex extremity injuries.

International audience; In the Paris Basin, open-air Palaeolithic sites generally belong to the finalMagdalenian with examples such as Pincevent, Etiolles and Verberie. It is onthese sites that the palethnographic approach of A. Leroi-Gourhan and hisdisciples was elaborated. However, for a long time, periods prior to the end ofthe Upper Palaeolithic did not focus a lot of attention, certainly because of theabsence of well-preserved sites, but also because of a relative lack of intereston behalf of researchers who were working on this vast area. Thanks to a collectiveresearch project developed in the early 2000’s at the French NationalCenter for Scientific research (CNRS), entitled “The Early Upper Palaeolithic ofthe centre and the south of the Paris Basin”, new data were collected leading tothe development of an excavation program on the site of Ormesson (Seine-et-Marne) that began in 2009. After seven years of functioning, this program,initially focused on a Gravettian occupation dated 26500 uncal. BP and linkedto bison hunting, has permitted the identification of four others occupationsranging from the end of the Middle Palaeolithic to the Badegoulian, and alsoincluding the Châtelperronian and the Middle Solutrean periods. The excellentstate of preservation of these occupations leads us, besides the study of theenvironmental context (topography, plant environment, fauna, availability ofraw materials, etc.), to a better understanding of subsistence economies andsettlements functioning developed during 30000 years of human presence atthis site.

This paper introduces the aims and scope of the RESET project (. RESponse of humans to abrupt Environmental Transitions), a programme of research funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (UK) between 2008 and 2013; it also provides the context and rationale for papers included in a special volume of Quaternary Science Reviews that report some of the project's findings. RESET examined the chronological and correlation methods employed to establish causal links between the timing of abrupt environmental transitions (AETs) on the one hand, and of human dispersal and development on the other, with a focus on the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic periods. The period of interest is the Last Glacial cycle and the early Holocene (c. 100-8 ka), during which time a number of pronounced AETs occurred. A long-running topic of debate is the degree to which human history in Europe and the Mediterranean region during the Palaeolithic was shaped by these AETs, but this has proved difficult to assess because of poor dating control. In an attempt to move the science forward, RESET examined the potential that tephra isochrons, and in particular non-visible ash layers (cryptotephras), might offer for synchronising palaeo-records with a greater degree of finesse. New tephrostratigraphical data generated by the project augment previously-established tephra frameworks for the region, and underpin a more evolved tephra 'lattice' that links palaeo-records between Greenland, the European mainland, sub-marine sequences in the Mediterranean and North Africa. - Abstract
The offences regulated by Law no 31/1990 regarding companies is a field which is relatively less explored by criminal law experts and quasi unexplored by civil law experts. This article addresses the offences grouped under Article 275 of previously mentioned law. These offences have several specific elements. Firstly, the active subject of the regulation can only be a person who holds a certain position in the company. Secondly, in the case of some of the offences, the premise of the criminal law regulation is another, corporate law, regulation, which the prior refers to. Because of this situation and because the premises of the other offences regulated by Article 275 are corporate law regulations, it is mainly the duty of the civil law expert to decipher its meaning, as a rigid application of a purely criminal vision in a field of private law can lead to erroneous conclusions, with serious consequences against the subjects of the offence. However, in order to cover all aspects of the interpretation, the criminal aspects have to be addressed with the same care – this is where the role of the criminal law expert unfolds, for the reader – be it a criminal or a civil law professional – to be able to construct a correct idea about a field which is, as previously mentioned, too little explored. 25. Femoral alloprosthesis in bone defect of 30 cm as extremity salvage

- Abstract
Defects in femoral bone segments represent a reconstructive challenge; they are caused secondary to multiple and extensive debridement in cases of patients with infections, tumors or high-energy trauma. Different treatments have been proposed to address this problem, however, these are limited when it comes to large defects that generate instability of the implants in the native bone as well as loss of functionality and length of the extremities. In the proximal femur, allograft prosthesis composites have been described in the management of extensive tumor resections, but they are not yet widely used in the management of bone defects due to osteomyelitis. The case of a 51-year-old male patient with post-traumatic pan-osteomyelitis of the femur Cierny-Mader IV with a 30-centimeter defect in whom limb salvage was achieved through the application of a femoral alloprosthesis is presented, exhibiting this surgical technique as an alternative in ample resections secondary to infectious processes in young patients, furthermore, offering a solution to the shortage of some prosthetic components in our surrounding.

26. Chemotherapy-Induced Long Non-coding RNA 1 Promotes Metastasis and Chemo-Resistance of TSCC via the Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling Pathway

- Abstract
Increasing evidence has shown that chemo-resistance is related to the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and increased invasiveness by tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) cells. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play pivotal roles in tumor metastasis and progression. However, the roles and mechanisms of lncRNAs in cisplatin-resistance-induced EMT and metastasis are not well understood. In this study, a chemotherapy-induced lncRNA 1 (CILA1) was discovered by using microarrays and was functionally identified as a regulator of chemo-sensitivity in TSCC cells. Upregulation of CILA1 promotes EMT, invasiveness, and chemo-resistance in TSCC cells, whereas the inhibition of CILA1 expression induces mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) and chemo-sensitivity, and inhibits the invasiveness of cisplatin-resistant cells both in vitroand in vivo. We also found that CILA1 exerts its functions via the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. High CILA1 expression levels and low levels of phosphorylated β-catenin were closely associated with cisplatin resistance and advanced disease stage, and were predictors of poor prognosis in TSCC patients. These findings provided a new biomarker for the chemo-sensitivity of TSCC tumors and a therapeutic target for TSCC treatment.

- Abstract
This article generally and succinctly analyses the main themes of the corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. In the first part, after a review of a company's bodies and an explanation of the role of each of them, we define corporate governance, as an assembly of the relationships between the bodies of a company. Enforcement of the corporate governance rules can be made through hard law or by soft law ("comply-or-explain" principle), the last being preferred. In the second part we explain the term of corporate social responsibility, that is need for economic development of the company together with the improvement of the life quality of the employees, their family, as well the local community and the society, as a whole. This article is about the three elements on the merits of a company's Articles of Association: the existance of an independent organization, an assemble of assets and debts and an individual purpose, as well as about the effects of the legal personality, apart of the members' one. Comparative law rounds up the details of the presentation. By registering and obtaining the status of legal person, a company acquires a corporate name, a legal seat, ownership of property, as well as the capacity of subject of law. In this capacity, the company has (corporate) rights and obligations and may be subject to liabilities, may conclude legal acts through its representatives, and may also participate as a party in civil or criminal trials. The transition from the Middle Paleolithic (MP) to Upper Paleolithic (UP) is marked by the replacement of late Neandertals by modern humans in Europe between 50,000 and 40,000 y ago. Châtelperronian (CP) artifact assemblages found in central France and northern Spain date to this time period. So far, it is the only such assemblage type that has yielded Neandertal remains directly associated with UP style artifacts. CP assemblages also include body ornaments, otherwise virtually unknown in the Neandertal world. However, it has been argued that instead of the CP being manufactured by Neandertals, site formation processes and layer admixture resulted in the chance association of Neanderthal remains, CP assemblages, and body ornaments. Here, we report a series of accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon dates on ultrafiltered bone collagen extracted from 40 well-preserved bone fragments from the late Mousterian, CP, and Protoaurignacian layers at the Grotte du Renne site (at Arcy-sur-Cure, France). Our radiocarbon results are inconsistent with the admixture hypothesis. Further, we report a direct date on the Neandertal CP skeleton from Saint-Césaire (France). This date corroborates the assignment of CP assemblages to the latest Neandertals of western Europe. Importantly, our results establish that the production of body ornaments in the CP postdates the arrival of modern humans in neighboring regions of Europe. This new behavior could therefore have been the result of cultural diffusion from modern to Neandertal groups.

International audience; Analysis of both environemental and cultural data during the Early and Middle Neolithic in the area of the Seine and its tributaries. Various parameters are taken into account : site location, animal and plant exploitation, lithic and bone artifacts. A marked break is detextable between Early and Middle Neolithic in the domains of territory and ressource management as schown by a wider control of the landscape and a diversification of economical options according to cultural groups and regions.; Analyse croisée des données relatives à l'environnement et à la culture matérielle qui permet d'aborder l'évolution de l'exploitation des milieux naturels au cours du Néolithique ancien et moyen dans le bassin hydrographique de la Seine. paramètres pris en compte : implantation des sites, exploitation de la faune et du milieu végétal, industries lithique et osseuse. Une rupture manifeste dans l'exploitation des ressources entre le Néolithique ancien et le Néolithique moyen est observée avec un investissement plus large du territoire et une diversification des orientations écvonomiques en fonction des groupes culturels et des régions.
