Abstract

In the case of copper and its alloys, Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) 3D printing technology is mainly used to produce elements for the maritime industry and research has focused on the use of Cu-Al alloys. There is little information devoted to the use of Cu-Ni alloys in this technology, which are also widely used in the maritime industry. In this work, tests were carried out on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion properties in a 1M NaCl solution of Cu-Ni 90/10 alloy 3D walls printed using the WAAM method. The obtained objects are characterized by a microstructure with elongated column grains and particles of the Ni-Ti phase, hardness in the range of 138–160 HV10, ultimate tensile strength of 495–520 MPa, yield strength of 342–358 MPa, elongation of 16.6–17.9%, and a low average corrosion rate of 7.4 × 10−5 mm/year. The work shows that it is possible to obtain higher mechanical properties of Cu-Ni 90/10 alloy 3D objects produced using the WAAM method compared to cast materials, which opens up the possibility of using this alloy to produce objects with more complex shapes and for use in corrosive working conditions. Abstract

The present research work shows that secondary aluminium alloys, properly sorted and prepared for the casting process, can provide almost 100% of the input for the casting process of 6xxx alloys billets. The 6063 and 6082 alloys were prepared in three variants of chemical composition. Liquid metal analysis showed low levels of impurities in most of the alloys studied. In the hot-top cast billets, differences were observed in the phase fraction and average grain size between the edge and centre of the billet, which was related to a slight increase in the content of elements such as Fe and Mn. 46. Influence of the Organic Additions on Structure, Corrosion Resistance and Tribological Properties of Ni/Al2O3 Composite Coatings

Abstract

Composite Ni/Al2O3 coatings were electrochemically deposited from a Watts bath modified with the organic additions of dioctyl sulphosuccinate sodium salt C20H37NaO7S–(DSS) and 2,3-dihydroxy-1,2 benzisothiazol-3-one 1,1-dioxide C7H5NO3–(LSA). The effect of different amount (50 and 100 g/l) of Al2O3 powder and organic additions on microstructure, microhardness, corrosion resistance and tribological properties was investigated. The coatings were examined by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The electrochemical behaviour of the coatings in corrosive solutions (1 M NaCl and 1 M Na2SO4) was investigated by potentiodynamic polarisation. The tribological properties were investigated by the Taber abrasive wear test, a standard test often applied in industrial practice. The results show that Al2O3 particles are uniformly distributed in the composite coatings compared with coatings without organic additions. The addition of organic compounds also reduced the size of the forming nickel crystallites and improved the tribological and corrosion properties of coatings containing the dispersed hard particles of Al2O3 added in an amount of 50 g/l and the addition of organic LSA and DSS compounds.

47. Warm deformation behaviour of UFG CP-Titanium produced by I-ECAP

Abstract

The objective of the present study is to investigate the deformation behaviour of Ultrafine-grain (UFG) commercial purity Titanium (CP-Ti) at warm temperatures. Firstly, CP-Ti billets were processed through six passes of incremental equal channel angular pressing (I-ECAP) at 300deg C using a die channel angle (Ph) of 120deg. Uniaxial compression tests were then performed under isothermal conditions on cylindrical samples obtained from the UFG CP-Ti billets. A series of these tests were conducted at different temperatures of 400, 500 and 600 degC and at varying strain rates of 0.01, 0.1 and 1.0 s[?]1. In each test, the original height of the sample was deformed by ~50% of its original value. The true stress-strain curves obtained, revealed that the flow stress was sensitive to both temperature and strain rate. In general, the flow stress was higher for lower temperatures and higher strain rates. For tests conducted at 400 and 500 degC, the flow stress quickly reaches a peak value, beyond which it exhibits a steady state response where there is no appreciable change in flow stress with increasing strain. The 600 degC tests however shows a strain hardening behaviour. Microstructure of the sample deformed at 600 degC and 0.01 s[?]1, exhibited significant grain growth.
