Female breast cancer patients face multiple challenges, which include but not limited to: stigmatization, financial drain and emotional turmoil. In the midst of all these challenges, it is unclear the coping strategies the female patients adopt to ease their predicament. It is against this background that this study explored some coping strategies adopted by the patients at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in Ghana. One on one in-depth interviews were conducted to elicit information from twenty female breast cancer patients and five clinicians. Observation was also adopted to validate/supplement the data received. ABC-X model informed the study. It was discovered that patients adopted in-group support as a means of coping with the illness. Religion was very instrumental in the coping mechanisms adopted by the women. It served as a safe haven for them. It is recommended, among other things, that hospitals should spearhead the formation of informal breast cancer advisory groups to help educate and support patients.Keywords: Breast Cancer, Patients, Coping Strategies, illness, diagnosis, Support Systems

The university system and students’ lifeworld are the most important precursors for overall quality university education. University lecturers are expected to guide students in varied ways through the university system by offering them academic and career counselling, as well as moral support in order to help them develop the critical mind needed for contemporary world of work and citizenship. One way of ensuring quality university education is to thoroughly understand scientifically the relationship between the university systems in Ghana and students’ lifeworld. This paper, therefore, aims to understand the relationship between university systems and students’ lifeworld in Ghana as a conduit in ensuring quality university education. Habermas’ theory of communicative action and Michel Foucault's discourse analysis provide the theoretical orientation for the study. The qualitative research design was adopted for the study. Twenty lecturers and thirty Ghanaian university graduates from public universities in Ghana participated in the study. These participants conveniently volunteered to participate in the study via the internet and were later interviewed on telephone. The study showed that students’ lifeworld is colonized by the universities’ systems. It is therefore recommended among others that students be proactively involved in university systems operations as an important stakeholder in ensuring a functional university system. Further student-lecturer engagement has to be improved upon by urgently addressing the decreasing number of lecturers in relation to increasing number of students in public universities in Ghana.Keywords: University system, University education, Quality university education, Students’ lifeworld, and Student-lecturer engagement

Ghana's status as one of the African Lions is linked to the country's remarkable growth performance, which culminated in the attainment of lower middle-income status. However, employment response to growth has been weak. Additionally, growth has been accompanied by substantial reduction in poverty, albeit increasing inequality. This development is explained by a slower growth in high labour absorption sectors of agriculture and manufacturing as against high growth in low employment generating sectors of mining and oil extraction. Fixing the problem of the missing middle of dwindling manufacturing and raising productivity in agriculture are recommended for the promotion of growth inclusiveness.
