Abstract The oxide and halide perovskite materials with a ABX3 structure exhibit a number of excellent properties, including a high dielectric constant, electrochemical properties, a wide band gap, and a large absorption coefficient. These properties have led to a range of applications, including renewable energy and optoelectronics, where high-performance catalysts are needed. However, it is difficult for a single structure of perovskite alone to simultaneously fulfill the diverse needs of multiple applications, such as high performance and good stability at the same time. Consequently, perovskite nanocomposites have been developed to address the current limitations and enhance their functionality by combining perovskite with two or more materials to create complementary materials. This review paper categorizes perovskite nanocomposites according to their structural composition and outlines their synthesis methodologies, as well as their applications in various fields. These include fuel cells, electrochemical water splitting, CO2 mitigation, supercapacitors, and optoelectronic devices. Additionally, the review presents a summary of their research status, practical challenges, and future prospects in the fields of renewable energy and electronics. Graphical abstract

Organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites solar cells (PSCs) have been emerging as a counterpart or a supplement of silicon-based solar cells. They have shown various interesting optoelectronic properties and impressive power conversion efficiencies, even outperforming the theoretical limits in tandem configurations. However, challenges such as long-term stability and scalable manufacturing remain significant obstacles to commercialization. Key factors like material composition and crystal quality are essential for the reliability and performance of PSCs. Traditional solution-based processes face challenges in scalability and reproducibility. This has drawn attention to vacuum processes, which have been successfully employed in the commercial mass production of optoelectronic devices like displays. Also, recent innovations in automated deposition systems aided by machine learning offer promising solutions. These technological advancements enable rapid optimization of material combinations and manufacturing processes, facilitating a transition from lab-scale prototypes to industrial applications. This review highlights the converging efforts from multiple disciplines—materials science, process engineering and machine learning—that are essential for the transition from experimental validation to commercial, sustainable energy solutions. In summary, the work sets a path forward, where collective expertize can address lingering challenges, making clean, accessible, and affordable energy an attainable goal.

Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are widely used in numerous artificial intelligence‐based applications. However, the significant amount of data transferred between computing units and storage has limited the widespread deployment of ANN for the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) and power‐constrained device applications. Therefore, among various ANN algorithms, quantized neural networks (QNNs) have garnered considerable attention because they require fewer computational resources with minimal energy consumption. Herein, an oxide‐based ternary charge‐trap transistor (CTT) that provides three discrete states and non‐volatile memory characteristics are introduced, which are desirable for QNN computing. By employing a differential pair of ternary CTTs, an artificial synaptic segregation with multilevel quantized values for QNNs is demostrated. The approach establishes a platform that combines the advantages of multiple states and robustness to noise for in‐memory computing to achieve reliable QNN performance in hardware, thereby facilitating the development of energy‐efficient AIoT.

Mg has received much attention as a next-generation implantable material owing to its biocompatibility, bone-like mechanical properties, and biodegradability in physiological environments. The application of various polymer coatings has been conducted in the past to reduce the rapid formation of hydrogen gas and the local change in pH during the initial phase of the chemical reaction with the body fluids. Here, we propose femtosecond (fs) laser-mediated Mg surface patterning for significant enhancement of the binding strength of the coating material, which eventually reduces the corrosion rate. Analyses of the structural, physical, crystallographic, and chemical properties of the Mg surface have been conducted in order to understand the mechanism by which the surface adhesion increases between Mg and the polymer coating layer. Depending on the fs laser conditions, the surface structure becomes rough owing to the presence of several microscaled pits and grooves of nanoporous MgO, resulting in a tightly bonded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) layer. The corrosion rate of the PLGA-coated, fs laser-treated Mg is considerably slow compared with the non-treated Mg; the treated Mg is also more biocompatible compared with the non-treated Mg. The fs laser-based surface modification technique offers a simple and quick method for introducing a rough coating on Mg; further, it does not require any chemical treatment, thereby overcoming a potential obstacle for its clinical use.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an atypical neurodevelopmental condition with a diagnostic ratio largely differing between male and female participants. Due to the sex imbalance in participants with ASD, we lack an understanding of the differences in connectome organization of the brain between male and female participants with ASD. In this study, we matched the sex ratio using a Gaussian mixture model-based oversampling technique and investigated the differences in functional connectivity between male and female participants with ASD using low-dimensional principal gradients. Between-group comparisons of the gradient values revealed significant interaction effects of sex in the sensorimotor, attention, and default mode networks. The sex-related differences in the gradients were highly associated with higher-order cognitive control processes. Transcriptomic association analysis provided potential biological underpinnings, specifying gene enrichment in the cortex, thalamus, and striatum during development. Finally, the principal gradients were differentially associated with symptom severity of ASD between sexes, highlighting significant effects in female participants with ASD. Our work proposed an oversampling method to mitigate sex imbalance in ASD and observed significant sex-related differences in functional connectome organization. The findings may advance our knowledge about the sex heterogeneity in large-scale brain networks in ASD.

Yeast, particularly Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is widely regarded as a nutritional supplement in the food and feed industries. Notably, Saccharomyces boulardii is promoted as a probiotic strain for its efficacy in gastrointestinal disorders. Despite genetic similarities to S. cerevisiae, S. boulardii is distinguished from S. cerevisiae by unique features like cell wall composition, which is crucial for immune activation. This study evaluated the cell wall polysaccharide contents of S. boulardii and S. cerevisiae and their immunomodulatory activity on Raw 264.7 cell. Results showed an increased secretion of pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-6, and NO) and the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10. Remarkably S. boulardii cell extracts had a more pronounced effect than S. cerevisiae cell extracts. The immunomodulatory activity is linked to the MAPK(ERK)/NF-κB pathway, activated by β-glucan and mannan via Dectin-1 and Dectin-2 receptors. This difference in immune response are attributed to variations in content of mannan and β-glucan in their cell walls.

Objective Our study aimed to investigate the effects of a 2% increase in dietary total digestible nutrients (TDN) value during the growing (7 to 12 mo of age) and fattening (13 to 30 mo of age) period of Hanwoo steers. Methods Two hundred and twenty Hanwoo steers were assigned to one of two treatments: i) a control group (basal TDN, BTDN, n = 111 steers, growing = 70.5%, early fattening = 71.0%, late fattening = 74.0%) or high TDN (HTDN, n = 109 steers, growing = 72.6%, early = 73.1%, late = 76.2%). Growth performance, carcass traits, blood parameters, and gene expression of longissimus dorsi (LD) (7, 18, and 30 mo) were quantified. Results Steers on the BTDN diets had increased (p≤0.02) DMI throughout the feeding trial compared to HTDN, but gain did not differ appreciably. A greater proportion of cattle in HTDN received Korean quality grade 1 (82%) or greater compared to BTDN (77%), while HTDN had a greater yield grade (29%) than BTDN (20%). Redness (a*) of LD muscle was improved (p = 0.021) in steers fed HTDN. Feeding the HTDN diet did not alter blood parameters. Steers fed HTDN diet increased (p = 0.015) the proportion of stearic acid and tended to alter linoleic acid. Overall, saturated, unsaturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids of LD muscle were not impacted by the HTDN treatment. A treatment by age interaction was noted for mRNA expression of myosin heavy chain (MHC) IIA, IIX, and stearoyl CoA desaturase (SCD) (p≤0.026). No treatment effect was detected on gene expression from LD muscle biopsies at 7, 18, and 30 mo of age; however, an age effect was detected for all variables measured (p≤0.001). Conclusion Our results indicated that feeding HTDN diet could improve overall quality grade while minimum effects were noted in gene expression, blood parameters, and growing performance. Cattle performance prediction in the feedlot is a critical decision-making tool for optimal planning of cattle fattening and these data provide both benchmark physiological parameters and growth performance measures for Hanwoo cattle feeding enterprises.

Hemagglutinin (HA) stem-based vaccines have limitations in providing broad and effective protection against cross-group influenza viruses, despite being a promising universal vaccine target. To overcome the limited cross-protection and low efficacy by HA stem vaccination, we genetically engineered a chimeric conjugate of thermostable H1 HA stem and highly conserved M2e repeat (M2e-H1stem), which was expressed at high yields in Escherichia coli. M2e-H1stem protein presented native-like epitopes reactive to antisera of live virus infection. M2e-H1stem protein vaccination of mice induced strong M2e- and HA stem-specific immune responses, conferring broadly effective cross-protection against both antigenically distinct group 1 (H1N1, H5N1, and H9N2 subtypes) and group 2 (H3N2 and H7N9 subtypes) seasonal and pandemic potential influenza viruses. M2e-H1stem vaccination generated CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses and antibody-dependent cytotoxic cellular and humoral immunity, which contributed to enhancing cross-protection. Furthermore, comparable broad cross-group protection was observed in older aged mice after M2e-H1stem vaccination. This study provides evidence warranting further development of chimeric M2e-stem proteins as a promising universal influenza vaccine candidate in adult and aged populations.

Abstract The human auditory cortex around Heschl’s gyrus (HG) exhibits diverging patterns across individuals owing to the heterogeneity of its substructures. In this study, we investigated the subregions of the human auditory cortex using data-driven machine-learning techniques at the individual level and assessed their structural and functional profiles. We studied an openly accessible large dataset of the Human Connectome Project and identified the subregions of the HG in humans using data-driven clustering techniques with individually calculated imaging features of cortical folding and structural connectivity information obtained via diffusion magnetic resonance imaging tractography. We characterized the structural and functional profiles of each HG subregion according to the cortical morphology, microstructure, and functional connectivity at rest. We found three subregions. The first subregion (HG1) occupied the central portion of HG, the second subregion (HG2) occupied the medial-posterior-superior part of HG, and the third subregion (HG3) occupied the lateral-anterior-inferior part of HG. The HG3 exhibited strong structural and functional connectivity to the association and paralimbic areas, and the HG1 exhibited a higher myelin density and larger cortical thickness than other subregions. A functional gradient analysis revealed a gradual axis expanding from the HG2 to the HG3. Our findings clarify the individually varying structural and functional organization of human HG subregions and provide insights into the substructures of the human auditory cortex.

Background: Dental hygienists study dental radiology through the dental hygiene department and curriculum, and most of the radiography work in dental clinics is performed by dental hygienists; however, the legal work regulations for dental hygienists place restrictions on the type of radiography performed. This study aimed to identify the actual conditions of the radiographic work performed by dental hygienists and to determine the difference according to the type of hospital.Methods: This study included 195 dental hygienists working at dental medical institutions in the metropolitan area. A survey was conducted on regarding the radiographic work performed and the clinical career of the main performers. The radiography work was divided into periapical radiography, bite-wing radiography, occlusal radiography, panoramic radiography, computed tomography (CT), and cephalometric radiography.Results: The frequency of performing intraoral radiography was as follows: periapical radiography, 94.9%; bite-wing radiography, 93.8%; and occlusal radiography, 77.9%. The frequency of performing extraoral radiography was 94.4% for panoramic radiography, 89.7% for CT, and 73.3% for cephalometric radiography. The frequency of internal and external radiography performance was higher among hygienists in dental clinics than among those in dental hospitals and university hospitals. The analysis of the dental hygienists’ clinical experience in the areas of intraoral and extraoral radiography showed that those working at university hospitals, dental hospitals, and dental clinics had over 5 years, 2∼4 years, and 1 year of clinical experience, respectively. The hygienists with less than 1 year of clinical experience showed high performance frequency (p＜0.05).Conclusion: For the dental hygienists to perform radiography safely, a discussion regarding the revision of related laws and regulations is warranted.

Multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has accelerated human neuroscience by fostering the analysis of brain microstructure, geometry, function, and connectivity across multiple scales and in living brains. The richness and complexity of multimodal neuroimaging, however, demands processing methods to integrate information across modalities and to consolidate findings across different spatial scales. Here, we present micapipe, an open processing pipeline for multimodal MRI datasets. Based on BIDS-conform input data, micapipe can generate i) structural connectomes derived from diffusion tractography, ii) functional connectomes derived from resting-state signal correlations, iii) geodesic distance matrices that quantify cortico-cortical proximity, and iv) microstructural profile covariance matrices that assess inter-regional similarity in cortical myelin proxies. The above matrices can be automatically generated across established 18 cortical parcellations (100–1000 parcels), in addition to subcortical and cerebellar parcellations, allowing researchers to replicate findings easily across different spatial scales. Results are represented on three different surface spaces (native, conte69, fsaverage5), and outputs are BIDS-conform. Processed outputs can be quality controlled at the individual and group level. micapipe was tested on several datasets and is available at https://github.com/MICA-MNI/micapipe, documented at https://micapipe.readthedocs.io/, and containerized as a BIDS App http://bids-apps.neuroimaging.io/apps/. We hope that micapipe will foster robust and integrative studies of human brain microstructure, morphology, function, cand connectivity.

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended to update the variable hemagglutinin antigens. Here, we first designed a virus-like particle (VLP) displaying consensus multi-neuraminidase (NA) subtypes (cN1, cN2, B cNA) and M2 ectodomain (M2e) tandem repeat (m-cNA-M2e VLP). Vaccination of mice with m-cNA-M2e VLP induced broad NA inhibition (NAI), and M2e antibodies as well as interferon-gamma secreting T cell responses. Mice vaccinated with m-cNA-M2e VLP were protected against influenza A (H1N1, H5N1, H3N2, H9N2, H7N9) and influenza B (Yamagata and Victoria lineage) viruses containing substantial antigenic variations. Protective immune contributors include cellular and humoral immunity as well as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. Furthermore, comparable cross protection by m-cNA-M2e VLP vaccination was induced in aged mice. This study supports a novel strategy of developing a universal vaccine against influenza A and B viruses potentially in both young and aged populations by inducing multi-NA subtype and M2e immunity with a single VLP entity.

Clinical heterogeneity has been one of the main barriers to develop effective biomarkers and therapeutic strategies in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Recognizing this challenge, much effort has been made in recent neuroimaging studies to find biologically more homogeneous subgroups (called ‘neurosubtypes’) in autism. However, most approaches have rarely evaluated how much the employed features in subtyping represent the core anomalies of ASD, obscuring its utility in actual clinical diagnosis. To address this, we combined two data-driven methods, ‘connectome-based gradient’ and ‘functional random forest’, collectively allowing to discover reproducible neurosubtypes based on resting-state functional connectivity profiles that are specific to ASD. Indeed, the former technique provides the features (as input for subtyping) that effectively summarize whole-brain connectome variations in both normal and ASD conditions, while the latter leverages a supervised random forest algorithm to inform diagnostic labels to clustering, which makes neurosubtyping driven by the features of ASD core anomalies. Applying this framework to the open-sharing Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange repository data (discovery, n = 103/108 for ASD/typically developing [TD]; replication, n = 44/42 for ASD/TD), we found three dominant subtypes of functional gradients in ASD and three subtypes in TD. The subtypes in ASD revealed distinct connectome profiles in multiple brain areas, which are associated with different Neurosynth-derived cognitive functions previously implicated in autism studies. Moreover, these subtypes showed different symptom severity, which degree co-varies with the extent of functional gradient changes observed across the groups. The subtypes in the discovery and replication datasets showed similar symptom profiles in social interaction and communication domains, confirming a largely reproducible brain-behavior relationship. Finally, the connectome gradients in ASD subtypes present both common and distinct patterns compared to those in TD, reflecting their potential overlap and divergence in terms of developmental mechanisms involved in the manifestation of large-scale functional networks. Our study demonstrated a potential of the diagnosis-informed subtyping approach in developing a clinically useful brain-based classification system for future ASD research.

Background: High sodium and low potassium consumption are related to hypertension and cardiovascular disease. We aimed to determine the relationship between the frequency of salt addition and potassium consumption with the risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Our study used the UK Biobank cohort, which included over 500,000 individuals enrolled from the United Kingdom between 2006 and 2010. This study involved 416,868 participants who filled out the dietary recall regarding the frequency of salt addition. Results: During follow-up, 19,164 (4.6%) developed AF. The incidence of new-onset AF was increased based on the frequency of salt addition (never/rarely 3.83; always 4.72 per 1000 person-years). Compared with the group that never/rarely added salt, those adding salt always were at significantly higher risk of incident AF after adjusting for multiple variables (hazard ratio (HR) 1.15; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06–1.24), and additional adjustment of dietary and total energy consumption (HR 1.37; 95% CI 1.08–1.73). In the subgroup analysis, the risk of AF incident according to the frequency of salt addition significantly increased in low urine potassium levels compared to high (p for interaction = 0.046). In the subgroup analysis for AF patients, higher salt addition frequency was related to increased all-cause mortality. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that adding salt to foods more frequently increases the risk of incident AF, even after adjusting for dietary and total energy consumption. Brain imaging research enjoys increasing adoption of supervised machine learning for single-participant disease classification. Yet, the success of these algorithms likely depends on population diversity, including demographic differences and other factors that may be outside of primary scientific interest. Here, we capitalize on propensity scores as a composite confound index to quantify diversity due to major sources of population variation. We delineate the impact of population heterogeneity on the predictive accuracy and pattern stability in 2 separate clinical cohorts: the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange (ABIDE, n = 297) and the Healthy Brain Network (HBN, n = 551). Across various analysis scenarios, our results uncover the extent to which cross-validated prediction performances are interlocked with diversity. The instability of extracted brain patterns attributable to diversity is located preferentially in regions part of the default mode network. Collectively, our findings highlight the limitations of prevailing deconfounding practices in mitigating the full consequences of population diversity.

Abstract Background This clinical case presented a novel method of segmental mandible reconstruction using 3D-printed titanium implant with pre-mounted dental implants that was planned to rehabilitate occlusion. Case presentation A 53-year-old male who suffered osteoradionecrosis due to the radiation after squamous cell carcinoma resection. The 3D-printed titanium implant with pre-mounted dental implant fixtures was simulated and fabricated with selective laser melting method. The implant was successfully inserted, and the discontinuous mandible defect was rehabilitated without postoperative infection or foreign body reaction during follow-ups, until a year. Conclusions The 3D-printed titanium implant would be the one of the suitable treatment modalities for mandible reconstruction considering all the aspect of mandibular functions.

Abstract Magnetite (Fe3O4)-gold (Au) core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) have unique magnetic and optical properties. When combined with biological moieties, these NPs can offer new strategies for biomedical applications, such as drug delivery and cancer targeting. Here, we present an effective method for the controllable cellular uptake of magnetic core-shell NP systems combined with biological moieties. Vimentin, which is the structural protein, has been biochemically confirmed to affect phagocytosis potently. In addition, vimentin affects exogenic materials internalization into cells even though under multiple inhibitions of biological moieties. In this study, we demonstrate the cellular internalization performance of Fe3O4-Au core-shell NPs with surface modification using a combination of biological moieties. The photofluorescence of vimentin-tagged NPs remained unaffected under multiple inhibition tests, indicating that the NPs were minimally influenced by nystatin, dynasore, cytochalasin D, and even the Muc1 antibody (Ab). Consequently, this result indicates that the Muc1 Ab can target specific molecules and can control specific endocytosis. Besides, we show the possibility of controlling specific endocytosis in colorectal cancer cells.

Abstract Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects more than 1% of children in the USA. ASD risk is thought to arise from both genetic and environmental factors, with the perinatal period as a critical window. Understanding early transcriptional changes in ASD would assist in clarifying disease pathogenesis and identifying biomarkers. However, little is known about umbilical cord blood gene expression profiles in babies later diagnosed with ASD compared to non-typically developing and non-ASD (Non-TD) or typically developing (TD) children. Methods Genome-wide transcript levels were measured by Affymetrix Human Gene 2.0 array in RNA from cord blood samples from both the Markers of Autism Risk in Babies-Learning Early Signs (MARBLES) and the Early Autism Risk Longitudinal Investigation (EARLI) high-risk pregnancy cohorts that enroll younger siblings of a child previously diagnosed with ASD. Younger siblings were diagnosed based on assessments at 36 months, and 59 ASD, 92 Non-TD, and 120 TD subjects were included. Using both differential expression analysis and weighted gene correlation network analysis, gene expression between ASD and TD, and between Non-TD and TD, was compared within each study and via meta-analysis. ObjectiveThis study investigated the attitude of Korean physicians toward women's access to emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) and the reclassification of ECP to a behind-the-counter (BTC) drug.MethodsThis study involved 946 physicians who had prescribed ECP in South Korea. The written questionnaires were completed by obstetricians and gynecologists, family physicians, internal medicine doctors, and pediatricians.ResultsRegarding the barriers limiting women's access to ECP, 24.8% of physicians responded that women lacked information about ECP and 22.5% felt that women were likely to be emotionally burdened by visits to clinics or hospitals to obtain ECP prescriptions. Ninety-two percent of physicians responded that ECP should remain a prescription drug while 6.1% stated preferences for a switch to a BTC drug. Physicians who opposed the switch were concerned about the potential abuse of ECP. In order to prevent ECP abuse, the most important factor to be considered was education on contraception.ConclusionA majority of Korean physicians opposed the reclassification of ECP to a BTC drug owing to their belief in increasing the role of educational initiatives about contraception and contraceptive practices before improving the access to ECP. This study is also of the opinion that contraceptive education for youth and adults in Korea should be more realistic and active, with an emphasis on regular contraception use before reclassification. Furthermore, we believe that efforts are needed to ensure accuracy of information on contraception to facilitate women's access to ECP.

Abstract Objective To investigate the whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity in patients with chronic migraine (CM) using a data-driven method. Methods We prospectively recruited patients with either episodic migraine (EM) or CM aged 18–60 years who visited the headache clinic of the Samsung Medical Center from July 2016 to December 2017. All patients underwent 3 T MRI using an identical scanner. Patients were considered interictal if they did not have a migraine headache at the day and ± 1 days of functional MRI acquisition. Using the group-independent component analysis (ICA), connectivity analysis with a weighted and undirected network model was performed. The between-group differences in degree centrality (DC) values were assessed using 5000 permutation tests corrected with false discovery rate (FDR). Results A total of 62 patients (44 EM and 18 CM) were enrolled in this study. Among the seven functionally interpretable spatially independent components (ICs) identified, only one IC, interpreted as the pain matrix, showed a significant between-group difference in DC (CM > EM, p = 0.046). This association remained significant after adjustment for age, sex, migraine with aura (MWA), allodynia, depression, and anxiety (p = 0.038). The pain matrix was functionally correlated with the hypothalamus (p = 0.040, EM > CM) and dorsal raphe nucleus (p = 0.039, CM > EM) with different levels of strength in EM and CM. Conclusion CM patients have a stronger connectivity in the pain matrix than do EM patients. Functional alteration of the pain network might play a role in migraine chronification.

The present study aimed to decompose perilla seed meal (PSM) proteins via enzymatic degradation and to evaluate the functional properties of the resulting enzymatic hydrolysate and peptide fractions for utilization of PSM, a by-product in the production of perilla seed oil. PSM protein hydrolysates were fractionated based on molecular weight using an ultrafiltration system, and the physical properties required to utilize the hydrolysate and peptide fractions as functional food components were determined. The enzymatic hydrolysate and peptide fractions showed higher solubility, oil absorption capacity, and emulsifying and foaming properties than protein isolates. In particular, peptide fractions below the 5 kDa showed high solubility, emulsifying activity, and foaming capacity. Therefore, these peptide fractions are ideal as functional raw materials and substitutes that can be used to improve the quality of various processed food products and protein supplements.

Abstract Background The burden of rare diseases on society and patients’ families has increased in Korea. However, because of the infrequency of rare diseases, there is a lack of resources and information to address these cases and inadequate funding for the management of these patients. We investigated the average annual cumulative incidence of rare diseases and the trends in annual cumulative incidence from 2011 to 2015 in Korea by using nationwide administrative data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database for patients registered with the co-payment assistance policy for rare and incurable diseases. Annual cumulative incidence per 10,000,000 was calculated as the total number of newly enrolled patients with the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases (KCD)-7 code in the register, divided by the number of residents with health insurance coverage during each year. We employed simple linear regression analysis to evaluate the trends in annual cumulative incidence/10,000,000 population per year for each rare disease. Results Overall, national support was provided for patients with 415 KCD codes listed among the targeted rare diseases. The total number of newly enrolled patients with rare diseases was 53,831 in 2011, 52,658 in 2012, 52,955 in 2013, 71,530 in 2014, and 70,559 in 2015. The number of rare diseases with an average annual cumulative incidence of 100/10,000,000 and above was 22 (5.30%), while there were 227 (54.70%) and 148 (35.66%) with an average cumulative incidence between 1/10,000,000 and 100/10,000,000 and less than 1/10,000,000, respectively.
