Abstract

Das Kapitel: Geschichte der Bodenphysik und ihre Entwicklung in den verschiedenen Teilbereichen behandelt die Entwicklung in den letzten Jahrzehnten des 20. und im beginnenden 21. Jahrhundert. Zu Beginn werden die Prozesse der Gefügeentwicklung und deren Detektion sowie die damit einhergehenden Modellierungsansätze der Wasserflüsse analysiert, gefolgt von den ausführlichen Beschreibungen der Hydrophobie und der Interaktionen zwischen Bodenphysik und Biologie. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt bilden die Prozesse in Torfböden, bevor in zwei ausführlichen Beiträgen die physikalisch-mechanischen Prozesse von der rheologischen bis zur Mesoskala – Labor- und Freilanduntersuchungen – zum Thema Belastbarkeit und Folgen für ökologische Bodenfunktionen behandelt werden. Den Abschluss bildet ein Beitrag zur Entwicklung der Geostatistik in der bodenphysikalischen Forschung.  The chapter: history of soil physics and its development in the different subfields deals with the development in the last decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. At the beginning, the processes of microstructure development and their detection as well as the associated modeling approaches of water fluxes are analyzed followed by the detailed descriptions of hydrophobicity and the interactions between soil physics and biology. A further focus is on the processes in peat soils before two detailed contributions deal with the physical mechanical processes from the rheological to the mesoscale—laboratory and in situ—investigations of resilience and consequences for ecological soil functions. The paper concludes with a contribution on the development of geostatistics in soil physics research.

Noll (a) Keywords: Power estimation; Embedded processors; Modeling accuracy Abstract: In this contribution the concept of functional- level power analysis (FLPA) for power estimation of programmable processors is extended in order to model embedded as well as heterogeneous processor architectures featuring different embedded processor cores. The basic FLPA approach is based on the separation of the processor architecture into functional blocks like, e.g. processing unit, clock network, internal memory, etc. The power consumption of these blocks is described by parameterized arithmetic models. By application of a parser based automated analysis of assembler codes the input parameters of the arithmetic functions like e.g. the achieved degree of parallelism or the kind and number of memory accesses can be computed. For modeling an embedded general purpose processor (here, an ARM940T) the basic FLPA modeling concept had to be extended to a so-called hybrid functional-level and instruction-level (FLPA/ILPA) model in order to achieve a good modeling accuracy. In order to show the applicability of this approach even a heterogeneous processor architecture (OMAP5912) featuring an ARM926EJ-S core and a C55x DSP core has been modeled using the hybrid FLPA/ILPA technique described before. The approach is exemplarily demonstrated and evaluated applying a variety of basic digital signal processing tasks ranging from basic filters to complete audio decoders or classical benchmark suits. Estimated power figures for the inspected tasks are compared to physically measured values for both inspected processor architectures. A resulting maximum estimation error of 9% for the ARM940T and less than 4% for the OMAP5912 is achieved. One promising alternative to solve these problems are Networks-on-Chip (NoCs). Recently, the application of deterministic and stochastic Petri-Nets (DSPNs) to model on-chip communication has been proven to be an attractive method to evaluate and explore different communication aspects. In this contribution the modeling of basic NoC communication scenarios featuring different processor cores, network topologies and communication schemes is presented. In order to provide a testbed for the verification of modeling results a state-of-the-art FPGA-platform has been utilized. This platform allows to instantiate a soft-core processor network which can be adapted in terms of communication network topologies and communication schemes. It will be shown that DSPN modeling yields good communication performance prediction results at low modeling effort. Different DSPN modeling aspects in terms of accuracy and computational effort are discussed.
