Winners in the Sound and Motion category of the first annual computer art and design competition are presented. Brite Voice Systems, Inc (Wichita, KS) has introduced a new voice-mail system which automates the yellow pages. The user calls the Yellow Pages and is led through a series of steps enabling the user to listen to advertisements for services or products. The user enters numbers to place an order, request services, or reach a human operator. The system in Wichita delivers 10,000 advertising messages a day. Other cities using the service include Cincinnati, OH, Seattle, WA, Minneapolis, MN, Austin, TX, Providence, RI, and Cedar Rapids, IA. Some private companies such as Procter and Gamble use the system to disseminate company information.
