Abstract

The Advanced Satellite Workstation (ASW) was proposed and started by the author in 1986 as a low level independent research and development effort. Its goal was to evaluate the utility of expert systems in military satellite testing operations. It quickly became apparent, however, that the rule base was too limited. This project's goal was then modified to capture as much of the factory and flight experience as possible in an electronic, updateable medium. The resulting electronic library would then permit much deeper insight into the satellite's operation and more confidence in understanding and expanding the expert system rule base. The first on-line demonstration was done during June 1990 in one of the Air Force's Mission Control Centers, and evaluations of ASW are currently underway. 19. Physical Fitness--Major Objective?

Abstract

The article discusses sports facilities available in elementary schools in the U.S. A daily 80-minute period in physical education is scheduled for all Dade County elementary school children. This is in addition to any supervised play period. The physical education period in the secondary schools is the same length as any other period of the school day. Boys and girls in grades seven through ten are required to take physical education every day. Senior high schools all have gymnasiums, many of which have adequate gymnastic equipment. In addition, all have athletic fields. The playgrounds of elementary schools and junior high schools are physical education classrooms. A modified gymnastic program in elementary and junior high schools has been made possible through the installation of chinning bars and the use of vaulting boxes, low parallel bars, and balance beams. With these various pieces of equipment available, more pupils can participate in a wider range of individualized activities, either during the pre-class period, or, if prescribed by the instructor, during the period allotted for body conditioning exercises.

23. Sharing Sensor Data with SensorSA and Cascading Sensor Observation Service.

Abstract

The SANY IP consortium (http://www.sany-ip.eu) has recently developed several interesting service prototypes that extend the usability of the Open Geospatial Consortium "Sensor Web Enablement" (OGC SWE) architecture. One such service prototype, developed by the Austrian Research Centers, is the "cascading SOS" (SOS-X). SOS-X is a client to the underlying OGC Sensor Observation service(s) (SOS). It provides alternative access routes to users (or services) interested in accessing data. In addition to a simple cascading, SOS-X can re-format, re-organize, and merge data from several sources into a single SOS offering. Thanks to the built-in "Formula 3" prototype, a kind of time series library, SOS-X will be enabled to derive new data sets on the fly executing arbitrary algebraic operations on one or more data input streams. This article will discuss the SOS-X development status (focusing at end of 2008), further development agenda in year 2009, and possibilities for using the SOS-X outside of the SANY IP.

Abstract

A 13-year-old mixed breed dog was presented with difficulties to urinate, blood in the urine and a nodule at the root of the penis. The penis was completely resected, and an osteosarcoma of the penile bone was diagnosed. Radiographically, there was no evidence to suggest tumours in other bones or distant metastases. The dog was euthanized as a consequence of tumour recurrence after 2 months. This is believed to be the first reported case of a primary osteosarcoma of the penile bone.
