Při návrhu a optimalizaci systémů informačních a komunikačních technologií (ICT) je jedním z kroků testování systémů při extrémní zátěži, jedná se o tzv. útoky cílené na odepření služeb, tedy Denial of Service (DoS), nebo Distributed DoS (DDoS). Testování probíhá buď pomocí specializovaných hardwarových (HW) zařízení, nebo vytvářením zátěže pomocí softwarových (SW) distribuovaných systémů. Vedle uvedených testů je také často nutné ověřit chování přenosové infrastruktury ICT za předem definovaných přenosových podmínek. K tomuto účelu opět slouží specializované HW a SW síťové emulátory, které umožňují definovat charakter přenosové sítě. V článku je popsán inovativní systém, založený na otevřených technologiích, který představuje alternativu k uzavřeným komerčním řešením, kombinuje obě funkce, tj. zátěžový tester a síťový emulátor v jednom zařízení a jsou ukázány výhody takovéhoto systému., As part of the design and optimization of information and communication technology (ICT) systems, one of the steps is to test systems under extreme load using so-called Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed DoS (DDoS) attacks. Tests are done either using specialized hardware (HW) devices or by creating workloads using software (SW) distributed systems. In addition to the above tests, it is also often necessary to verify the behavior of the ICT infrastructure under predefined transmission conditions. Specialized HW and SW network emulators are used for this purpose, which allow defining the properties of the transmission network. The paper describes an innovative system, based on open-source technologies, which represents an alternative to closed-source commercial solutions, combines both functions, i.e. a load tester and a network emulator in one device, and the advantages of such a system are shown.

Functional and phylogenetic diversity (FD and PD respectively) of the resident community are expected to exert a key role in community resistance to colonization by surrounding species, and their establishment success. However, few studies have explored this topic experimentally or evaluated the interactive effects of these diversity measures. We implemented a diversity experiment to disentangle the role of FD and PD by sowing mixtures of 6 species, drawn from a pool of 19 species naturally coexisting in central European mesic meadows. The mixtures were designed to cover four independent combinations of high and low FD and PD. Species covers were estimated in spring and late summer over two growing seasons. We then assessed the establishment success of colonizers as a function of their mean traits and phylogenetic distance to the resident (i.e. sown) communities, as well as the resistance of the resident communities to natural colonizers as a function of their functional and phylogenetic structure. Results generally indicated a temporal shift regarding which trait values made a colonizer successful, from an acquisitive strategy in early stages to a more conservative trait syndrome in later stages. FD decreased community resistance to natural colonization. However, PD tempered this effect: with high PD, FD was not significant, suggesting complementary information between these two components of biodiversity. On average, colonizing species were more functionally distant from the resident species in sown communities with high functional diversity, i.e. those that were more colonized. Synthesis. Our results confirm an interplay between FD and PD during community assembly processes, namely resistance to colonizers, suggesting that these two descriptors of biodiversity only partially overlap in their contribution to the overall ecological structure of a community. The low-power wide-area (LPWA) technologies, which enable cost and energy-efficient wireless connectivity for massive deployments of autonomous machines, have enabled and boosted the development of many new Internet of things (IoT) applications; however, the security of LPWA technologies in general, and specifically those operating in the license-free frequency bands, have received somewhat limited attention so far. This paper focuses specifically on the security and privacy aspects of one of the most popular license-free-band LPWA technologies, which is named LoRaWAN. The paper’s key contributions are the details of the design and experimental validation of a security-focused testbed, based on the combination of software-defined radio (SDR) and GNU Radio software with a standalone LoRaWAN transceiver. By implementing the two practical man-in-the-middle attacks (i.e., the replay and bit-flipping attacks through intercepting the over-the-air activation procedure by an external to the network attacker device), we demonstrate that the developed testbed enables practical experiments for on-air security in real-life conditions. This makes the designed testbed perspective for validating the novel security solutions and approaches and draws attention to some of the relevant security challenges extant in LoRaWAN.

Článek je zaměřen na problematiku pomalých útoků Denial of Service (DoS) a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), jenž způsobují odepření služby legitimním uživatelům. Čtenář je uveden do základních principů útoků a problematiky jejich detekce. Konkrétně jsou zde probírány útoky Slowloris, Slow POST a Slow Read. V článku je dále uveden vlastní návrh pokročilého generátoru těchto útoků, který umožňuje podrobnější nastavení parametrů útoku a tím vhodnější optimalizaci pro konkrétní případ použití. Vytvořený generátor je následně otestován v laboratorní síti. Testovací scénáře simulují reálné případy útoků včetně distribuovaných útoků. Výsledky testování prokazují účinnost těchto útoků na konkrétních webových serverech. Vytvořený generátor je možné využít pro budoucí vývoj zabezpečení webových serverů a systémů pro detekci útoků., This article focuses on the slow Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and slow Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The reader is introduced to the basic principles and detection methods of the Slowloris, Slow POST, and Slow Read attacks. The article also presents proposed attack generator design, which allows advanced settings of attack parameters and thus more optimization for a specific use case. The created generator is then tested in the laboratory network. Test scenarios simulate real-world attacks, including distributed attacks. Test results demonstrate the effectiveness of these attacks on specific Web sites. The created generator can be used for future security development of web servers and attack detection systems.

In this paper the authors present a multifunctional reconfigurable fractional-order filter performing a low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band-reject transfer function. The filter is based on two types of active elements, OTA (Operational Transconductance Amplifier) and ACA (Adjustable Current Amplifier). It provides pole frequency control, depending on the values of the transconductance of the OTA elements. The quality factor is also electronically controlled, depending on the amplification of the ACA element. The order of the filter can be changed by switching the fractional-order capacitor having various values of the order. The circuit was implemented as a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and measured in laboratory conditions. Measurement results are compared with the simulation results. The behavioural models were used for the purpose of the simulation.

The past years brought many changes, which accelerated the development of different communication approaches and technologies. Nowadays, wireless technologies become the accelerators for a wide range of new applications. This paper focuses on the latest evolution of the promising wireless communication technology IQRF (Intelligent Radio Frequency). Focusing on this goal, an in-depth analysis along with experimental measurements and simulations is provided. We provide original results from selected indoor and outdoor scenarios, in which important communication parameters and technological limitations are highlighted. Additionally, the application field of IQRF is established along with a comparison with other relevant technologies.

The paper focuses on security in industrial control systems. Numerous protocols and their incompatibility are undermining the security design. Also, the IEC 61850 standard focuses on these issues; in detail, it deals with the compatibility between protocols and, partly security. In the context of this work, a testbed together with traffic generator was designed for IEC 61850 standard and its three main parts – MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification), GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Events) and Sampled Values. Additionally, the used generator was compared with an example of an RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) unit used in standard ICS (Industrial control systems) networks. The last part of this work consisted of performance testing of the implemented protocols (MMS, GOOSE, Sampled Values).

This article focuses on the detection and protection against Slow DoS and DDoS attacks using analyzing traffic in computer networks. The reader is introduced to the basic problems of these attacks and principle of attacks Slow GET, Slow Post, Slow Read the Apache Range Header. The article also proposes a set of methods for detecting and protecting against these attacks. The proposed methods are used for implementing a proprietary Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that is deployed on a filter server to protect web servers against internet attacks. The created system is then tested in the network laboratory. Presented results of the testing demonstrate that the created system is able to detect above-mentioned DoS attacks and then protect web servers from affecting provided services., Tento článek je zaměřen na problematiku detekce a ochrany před útoky typu Slow DoS a DDoS pomocí analýzy provozu v počítačových sítích. Čtenář je uveden do základní problematiky těchto útoků a je mu objasněn princip útoků Slow GET, Slow POST, Slow Read a Apache Range Header. V článku je dále navrhnuta sada metod pro detekci a ochranu před těmito útoky. Navržené metody jsou použity pro implementaci vlastního systému prevence průniku (z angl. Intrusion Prevention Systems, zkráceně IPS), který je nasazen na hraniční filtrační server počítačové sítě za účelem ochrany webových serverů před útoky z internetu. Vytvořený systém je následně testován v laboratorní síti. Prezentované výsledky testování prokazují, že vytvořený systém je schopen detekovat výše zmíněné DoS útoky a následně ochránit webové servery před ovlivněním poskytovaných služeb.

This article focuses on comparing the detection capabilities of open-source IDS/IPS (Intrustion Detection Prevention System) Snort and Suricata against DoS (Denial of Service) attacks for legitimate users. The article describes an experimental infrastructure, where testing and detailed settings of individual DoS attacks were performed. Attacks were based on up-to-date statistics that monitor the attacks used at-this-time. Readers are acquainted with how each system behaves in the various types of cyber-attacks that will cause most of the service crash, the capabilities of their detection in the default settings, and eventual change in detection properties after editing., Tento článek je zaměřen na porovnání detekčních schopností volně dostupných systémů pro detekci a prevenci průniků (IDS/IPS Intrustion Detection Prevention System) Snort a Suricata, proti útokům cílených na odepření služby (DoS Denial of Service) pro legitimní uživatele. V článku je popsáno experimentální pracoviště, na kterém bylo realizováno testování a podrobné nastavení jednotlivých DoS útoků. Použité útoky vycházely z aktuálních statistik, které monitorují dnes používané útoky. Čtenář se dozví, jak se chovaly jednotlivé systémy při různých typech útoků, které zapříčiní ve většině případů pád služby, schopnostech jejich detekce při výchozím nastavení a případná změna detekčních vlastností při následných úpravách.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) cyber-attack is one of the most devastating attacks on the Internet, an attack that overloads a server or line, thus denying user services. More than two dozen devices are involved in the attack to improve attack efficiency. The popularity of DDoS has risen in recent years. Attacks intensify and combine various techniques to circumvent the protections against these attacks. Therefore, the main objective of our research is to propose a solution that can increase the filtering capacity linearly when attacking DDoS. The aim is to create a defense system as a portable software image that can be installed on a common hardware device. During the DDoS attack, these servers will be used as filters for this attack. This solution should be applied in data centers to eliminate the disadvantages of a commercial solution., Kybernetický útok DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) patří mezi nejničivější útoky na internetu. Jedná se o útok, při kterém dochází k přetížení daného serveru nebo linky a tím pádem dojde k odepření služeb pro uživatele. Do útoku je zapojeno až sta tisíce zařízení pro lepší efektivitu útoku. Popularita DDoS v posledních letech stoupá. Útoky se zesilují a kombinují různé techniky pro obcházení ochran proti těmto útokům. Proto je hlavním tématem článku navrhnout řešení, u kterého je možné, při útoku DDoS, navyšovat filtrační kapacitu lineárně. Cílem je vytvořit obranný systém ve formě přenosného softwarového obrazu, který může být nainstalován na běžné hardwarové zařízení. Během útoku DDoS budou tyto servery použity jako filtry tohoto útoku. Toto řešení je vhodné aplikovat v datových centrech pro eliminaci nevýhod komerčního řešení.

The present paper deals with the development of a progressive rubber-suspension system as light weight construction substituting a combination of a steel spring and rubber bushing system for sports equipment application. The new developed rubber suspension element uses the V-element geometry with respect to well-known non-linear mechanical behaviour of rubber and the expected non-linear relationship between required forces and the deformation of the suspension system. As example for application a mountain board in kiting sports was selected. The approach is based on the correlation between the kinematics of the athlete and the viscoelastic behaviour of rubber-suspension elements.

This article discusses the use of entropy for identifying anomalies in data communication. At testing the attention is focused on the comparison of three types of entropy (Shannon entropy, Rényi entropy, Tsallis entropy) and select the most appropriate one for identification  of anomalous traffic. In the article the reader will find a classification of normal data traffic from recorded network traffic, using the above-mentioned entropies and determination of the suitable adjustable parameter for Rényi entropy and Tsallis entropy. Next in this article are the entropies used for the identification of anomalous traffic caused by the DoS attack., Tento článek pojednává o využití entropie pro identifikaci anomálií v datové komunikaci. Pozornost při testování je zaměřena na porovnání tří typů entropií (Shannonova entropie, Rényiho entropie, Tsallisova entropie) a výběr nejvhodnější pro identifikaci anomálního provozu. Čtenář v článku nalezne klasifikaci běžného datového provozu ze zaznamenané síťové komunikace pomocí výše uvedených entropií a stanovení vhodného nastavitelného parametru u Rényiho a Tsallisovy entropie. Dále jsou v tomto článku entropie použity pro identifikaci anomálního provozu způsobeného DoS útokem.
