The Tharsis Region has been an interest of study for many years due to its large impact on the long wavelength gravity field and topography of Mars. The leading theory on the origin of the volcanic region is a combination of both isostatic flexure of a thickened crust and a small contribution due to a (possible) large superplume residing in the upper mantle. The isostatic balance, on which previous studies have relied, does not adequately explain the long-wavelength gravity field spectra. These long-wavelength signals contribute to large scale features in the mantle. We consider the presence of a dynamic mass anomaly below the Tharsis Region. This could help explain the geological surveys of the relative young lava flows. By looking at mantle dynamic models we can explore the effect of a superplume that is actively rising in the mantle and changing the geoid over time. We ran a series of instantaneous axisymmetric finite element models of Mars with varying plume and subsurface structural variables constrained by InSight. We run the model for 50 years, thereby accounting for the total duration of satellite data acquisition. The deformation in the model allows us to calculate the change in dynamic topography and gravity anomaly.Our preliminary results show dynamic topography rates of a few centimetres per year and gravity rates in the order of 0.1 μGal per year. These gravity rates should fall within the precision of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter gravity field estimates, but are masked by other geological surface mass changes. Our results show that with longer and dedicated gravity observations, we should be able to observe the large scale mantle dynamics of Mars.

In Beiträgen zum Neuen Kommunalen Finanzmanagement (NKF) wird regelmäßig undifferenziert auf „die Kommunen“ Bezug genommen, ohne bei den lokalen Akteuren zwischen Verwaltung und politischer Vertretung zu unterscheiden. Im Folgenden soll ausgehend von Anliegen, die politische Vertreterinnen und Vertreter in NKF-Seminaren geäußert haben, untersucht werden, inwieweit die im NKF angelegten Anforderungen an die politischen Vertreterinnen und Vertreter erfüllt werden können. In einem essayistischen Ansatz werden auch Überlegungen angeregt, wie das NKF-Reformprojekt neuen Schwung gewinnen könnte.

This research gives answer to the research question How to incorporate the Agile methodology into Data Science projects to gain flexibility? To get this answer a theoretical framework is built based on known Data Science development processes and Agile methods. The aim of the framework is to research which development process and Agile methods best fit together. This is a combination of CRISP-DM as the development process, KANBAN and SCRUM. The latter two are Agile methods.From this a SCRUMBAN model was created. This model was reviewed by consultants through a demonstration and interview. The results were then sorted and evaluated on four criteria: feasibility, completeness, usability and effectiveness. It was concluded that the model met all four criteria although effectiveness is only a perceived effectiveness. With little changes to the model, it is ready to use in practice to test if the model is effective.

In ‘hard’ numerate subjects of electrical/electronic engineering, student motivation is a difficult problem. Students must feel engaged and purposeful. The authors have worked closely together as a pan-European group to design a module that engages students via interesting practical work, integrating a number of subjects together, and achieving enhanced motivation.

Es war die Aufgabe gestellt, die Kinematik des Taumelscheibentriebs fur ein doppelt wirkendes, gegenlaufiges, Zweitakt-Hochleistungs-Dieseltriebwerk mit achsparallelen Zylindern und vorgegebenen Konstruktionsabmessungen (Hub 160 mm, Hochst-Drehzahl 3000/min, Schragstellwinkel der Taumelscheibe 15°, Zylinderbohrung 140 mmo) zu untersuchen, und insbesondere die Geschwindigkeitsverhaltnisse des Taumelscheiben-Ubertragungstriebs an den kritischen Punkten zu ermitteln.

Paper Abstract: An historically unprecedented seismic moment was released by crustal events of the 2019-2020 earthquake sequence near southwest Puerto Rico. The sequence involved at least two, and per-haps three interacting fault systems. The largest Mw 6.4 event was likely triggered by left lateral strike-slip events along the eastern extension of the North Boquerón Bay-Punta Montalva fault zone. The mainshock occurred in a normal fault zone that extends into a region where previous studies documented extensional deformation, beyond the Ponce fault and the Bajo Tasmanian fault. Coulomb stress changes by the mainshock may have triggered further normal faulting af-tershocks, left lateral strike-slip events in the region where these two fault zones interacted, and possibly right lateral strike-slip aftershocks along a third structure extending southward, the Guayanilla fault zone. Extension directions of the seismic sequence are consistently NNW-SSE oriented, in agreement with the GNSS-inferred motion direction of eastern Hispaniola relative to western Puerto Rico, and with crustal stress estimates for the overriding plate boundary zone. Data in this repository was used for the figures and as input data for Coulomb stress modeling. The software for making the figures was Generic Mapping Tools (Wessel et al., 2019).
